Hey folks Red Alert on Coastal Farms and ranch especially the Oregon City Clackamas one . I went into exchange a pair of pants just to get a different size and I was told I had to pay more money because when I purchase them they were on sale . I could understand if I was trying to get a refund but I was just trying to get my right size . People in line and back of me couldn't believe it either and in fact they lost the sale I insisted to take my money back and I had another pair of pants that I was going to purchase this is probably the worst business decision I've ever seen. This is a GREAT store, truly one of the elite stores of its kind that I have found/shopped at in the region. The inventory is of a wide variety and also of high quality. The staff working here seem to really enjoy where they work and take pride in the job they do as you can tell by how clean and shoppable the store is. Great store for all of your rural living needs. On the other hand they sell firearms and that process ended in frustration. To begin, I chose a firearm and the salesman began my background check and the associated paperwork for the sale. My background check was going to take a while so I left the store to run other errands. I returned several hours later and an associate behind the counter was checking inventory. I asked him to help me finish my firearm transaction knowing my background check was approved. He stated he was not yet qualified to process my transaction and had to call over someone else. He radioed someone and I expected the associate would show up a minute later. That became several minutes later. I asked if someone was coming and he stated she was helping another customer at the safes. Several minutes later someone showed up and she began checking the computer and asked for my name. I gave it then she began checking the computer some more. I told her that the morning associate told me I was good on my background check so all was left to do was pay for the firearm. That began the annoying wait once more. Now I had to wait on the store manager to finalize the sale. Ten minutes later the manager arrived and looked at the paperwork doing another check on what two other people already did. Minutes later the manager scanned the transaction into the register and asked if I needed anything else. I said no thanks and paid for the transaction. Finally, I felt relieved this time consuming process was coming to a close. I was escorted to the door with my firearm and on my way. Looking back on the process was I wrong to feel impatient? Or is there a reasonable expectation this firearm process could have been quicker? I recommend going to a dedicated firearm store where an easier and quicker process could be achieved. A store that will have more than two employees qualified to finalize your firearm experience. By the way, like Bi-Mart they have implemented hand gun trigger locks to further enhance their overall expectation of safety. That will cost you some time as they look for the associate with the key to unlock the attached trigger lock. What a day! read more

It is like you combined the boot Barn, Ace Hardware and tractor supply all into one place, and then threw in a big 5 for good measure. This place is massive and has everything. This last week we all suffered through wide spread power outages from our recent ice, freezing rain, & snow storm. This store was also without power BUT remained open to help as many people as possible. With limited staff they had customers form a line outside the store and had someone checking in with each customer to inform them if they had what they were looking for in stock. They manually opened the doors to let 1-2 people in at a time to be escorted through the store with battery powered lanterns! How awesome, and dedicated to service, is that?! Once customers collected what they needed they were taken to a register where their information was taken to be able to process their payments once power was restored to the store. 48 hours into our power outage we were lucky enough to purchase an entire pallet of cut firewood for ourselves, and my Mom, to heat our homes. We also found pressed fire logs there so we stocked up on a cart full of those as well. Now 4 days later, 6 days total, we all have our power back on. That pallet of wood saved us all from having to find somewhere else to stay since we had run out of firewood at both homes and our houses were in the low 40s. Two because they have a lot of stuff if you need it and Wilco is closed? This place is the worst. It's like a bad country music version of Home Depot. You know that feeling when you need something and drive to the Depot only to have them impatiently ask questions, tell you all the wrong places to look in the store, and then end up not having the thing you needed, even though their web site said they had them in stock? And you leave empty-handed feeling depressed and a little violated? We'll, it's exactly that, but it's about farm stuff and they're wearing bedazzled jeans. Also, it's farther away. So more driving to have your dreams crushed. read more

This is usually not the place I go for farm stuff. However was I super surprised when I found out they had all kinds of other country living stuff!! They have parts for my fireplace, plumbing, weed eater and a lot of rugged clothes. I am impressed with this place that's in the city! In combination with Fisherman's Marine, just a few doors down in the Oregon City Shopping Center, pretty much all of your outdoor needs are covered. I was expecting more overlap, but they seem to each have their own niche. Coastal Farm has a nice selection of Western wear, including a wall of jeans and work pants from Carhartt, Wrangler and Levi. And the ladies aren't left out. Everything from boots to clothes are surprisingly well balanced between men and women. So you can get your camo with a touch of pink. Didn't notice any fishing or hunting supplies, aside from warm weather gear and rain slickers, so you would go to Fisherman's for that. At least half of the store is dedicated to furnishing your homestead. A nice selection of stoves (pellet, wood, gas) and safes (of the 5' tall variety). If you go to the lower level, you'll find fencing materials, including outdoor kennels. It really feels a bit like a blue collar version of the much missed Joe's, although they don't stock a lot of sporting goods. The products stocked here are for folks that DO something, not for the indoor treadmill set. Employees are very friendly and helpful. They have a large pet section, from dogs and cats to horse feed and supplies. They are gearing up for a pet costume contest around Halloween. My boys even went toy shopping in the kids' section. This store is nicely laid out and for a second made me want to live on property. Just for a second, though. That isn't my personal version of living the Oregon dream. read more

While it is great to have a farm & feed store close, I have had difficulties with this location on nearly every trip in. The main issues I have encountered are 1) a lack of cashiers and poorly trained ones that are here, leading to long slow lines a staff that lacks knowledge of products and enthusiasm for their jobs; 2) limited product lines, with a lack of common items to the area; and 3) frequent outages of what is supposed to be stocked. I am writing this while in line at the store, where there are no less than 18 people in line. It is my second time through, as I didn't have the tag for an item, and was told to go get that, and get back in line. Very poor customer service. read more

I was in to buy a wheelbarrow and clothing. There was a very nice gentleman to help me with a wheelbarrow. There was no one to help me with clothing or shoes. I'm giving the store a one star because of the amount of purchase and time I was at the store and how he was treated by the check out Clerk. I purchased $300 worth of items. At the checkout counter cashier asked me to come up to the counter (as she was talking to her friend on the phone). She continued ignoring me and checked me out as she was talking about her social plans "with her friend on the phone." I need to make a contactless delivery. When I went to pay, it seems the rule either is or was interpreted as there had to be a physical address attached to the card as company policy. Anyways, we live in a rural spot with our PO box in another zip code on our card. it wouldn't run through to make the sale. Kathy at the Oregon City Store was helping me. She was in a very uncomfortable position. She took a risk and solved my problem by coming out to get my card and run it. If you ever find yourself simultaneously in need of a sturdy pair of work jeans, some wood pellets for the smoker, dog food (not related to the smoker), some perimeter fencing, and a quart or two of motor oil, you won't do as much running around as you might think. No. In fact, you can get all of these things (and more!) at the Coastal Farm and Ranch. The CFR is actually a fun place to browse. As I am writing this review I am mentally plotting when I can get away from Portland and spend a couple of hours finding things I did not know I needed at the CFR. It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day "city slicker" lifestyle that is Portland, OR. No. Really. It is nice to shake it up every now and again by visiting the CFR. Oh...and you can pick up a rain slicker while you are at it. Your city friends will oooh and aaaaah at your retro rainwear that has been keeping people dry since before anyone ever dreamed of putting the words "technical clothing" together in one sentence. Like Walmart for the countrified folks with a little bit of property, and/or livestock.... This is so much BETTER than Walmart, of course, b/c you don't see the crowds, the horrible parking, the outlandish customers and characters and so forth. Your vehicle is far less likely to be vandalized or nicked in Coastal's parking lot, and you're much more likely to get a spot next to the front or loading bay doors. Try as you might (and I have, far and wide) you won't find better values on much of what they have to offer, from equine/bovine chips and grain and saddle and tack, to farming, gardening and ranching supplies. They are also one of the very few dealers to offer the large/over-sized rubber-maid carts. This may seem like a whimsical example, until you're confronted w/the workloads specific to a ranch and quickly realize such tools are indispensable.... I did not realize Coastal was a chain store, and was delighted to recently learn that they have locations scattered throughout Oregon..... my only complaint, and the difference between 4 and 5 stars, is location. Why, oh WHY do they have to be situated so far away from 95% of the rest of the metro area? there's ranching lands in every direction from Portland, and only a few short miles in every direction. There are stores in Gresham, Woodburn, and the O.C...... what, no love for west or north side? That represents a PAINFUL commute for the rest of us, to any of these fine locations. Tell you what, put a store in the semi-moribund Hayden Meadows, to readily service Northern Oregon and SW Washington-- and you many just be Yelp's very first Million star recipient... read more

Coastal has some of the best retail staff! For some reason Yelp insisted on checking into the Oregon City location despite the gps clearly showing we were at the Gresham location- no matter We've been to both and have never had less than a good experience. The folks are always helpful. We get our chicken feed, kitten vaccinations, cedar and other poultry supplies here. We go here for those things, and Burns feed for our hay and puppy vaccination needles (yes, shopping around for these things really does save a lot of money). read more

I recently bought jeans for my mother. I was not sure what size she would be and asked if after I purchased them, I could return them. The clerk said yes, so I purchased them. I went back not even 30 minutes later and the checker refused to refund my money. She said I have a dog when I don't even own a dog! The hairs that she claimed were there were on it when I bought it! I have been a customer at coastal for over 6 years (at other locations), but this is by far the WORST experience I've ever had :( read more

Had a problem with my new smoker. Took it down to Coastal per manufacturers advice. Met up with Chris, a manager, and although it was a busy Saturday, he took the time to fix it. Very good service! I love Costal, we get all of our supplies, boots, clothing, feed, just about everything here. Although, the cashiers are absolutely horrible. The customer service is the worst inside. It's mostly the younger employees that are the worst. ALTHOUGH, the young men working the in the warehouse where you pick up feed and etc, they're the BEST! They're so nice, they load up everything for us, and they always have great welcoming conversations. I wish everyone inside was like them. I also wish I could give them an even bigger shout out. Our family came to coastal on 4-21-18 and were pretty unaware of what to get as we welcome two new cows to our farm next week! Chris, a store manager, asked us if we needed help and we didn't even know what to ask for! We explained our predicament and I can't say enough now much of a blessing it was for his guidance. We will continue to be faithful customers to Coastal because of the expertise and customer service we have received in our experience with Chris! We ended up getting everything he suggested and feel very equip. We never felt he was anything but truthful and was genuine and transparent on what we needed and what we didn't. When I had horses, I loved this store. It has a good selection of horse tack, supplements, meds and grain. This was always my go-to store for the horses. The workers are always friendly and prices are comparable to other feed/farm stores. Now we go to Coastal for pet beds, dog toys and the large selection of Carhart clothes for my husband and son. This location is convenient for our family, I go next door to Michaels and my husband goes into Coastal. read more

Been in there many times. The Millennial staff are typical. Most just ignore you when you arrive. They have no clue what anything is or where an item is. Obviously no one trains them, which means the management is sub-par. Checkout and about half don't say anything and act as though they wanted to be somewhere else. I was there today and purchased over $100.00 of merchandise on seniors day. I shop at coastal a lot, and the staff are usually very friendly and helpful, but not today. A girl and young man were in near the clothes and playing around with some balloons. The girl finally asked me if I needed help reluctantly, I might add. Like I was bothering her. I finally found some shirts that I wanted without her help. The girl at the cash register was not too friendly either. I asked her for help with some horse feed and the young man who was playing with the balloons carried the horse feed out to my car and never offered to help me with my other heavier items I had purchased. I have dealt with the boys in the loading area, and they are more than helpful and very friendly.
