It's also a 10-minute walk to the Victoria & Albert Museum and about a 15 minute walk to Kensington Gardens (a lovely public park). Lots of pluses. 1. First, it's a historic, elegant Victorian hotel built in the 1870s and restored in the 1990s. The nicest part of the hotel is the grand interior staircase. One plus is that an elevator (lift) is available if you're staying on the upper floors. 2. The rooms are clean and tastefully decorated with a small desk. However, the classic double room is quite small. I stayed in Room 137 (overlooking the tube station) and it felt like a studio apartment in New York City). If you don't mind cozy spaces, this is a good option for a short stay. 3. You have a simple temperature control gauge in your room next to the front door. If it's a hot summer day, be sure to turn up the A/C. In London, I noticed folks tend not to use A/C as much as in the United States. There were a few minuses as well. Given the small-sized interior rooms and bathroom (well-designed but tiny), I don't think it's great for families (with kids) or large groups. Also, at check-in, the hotel staff could be clear about the 50 pound deposit for incidentals, and explain that you need to put your key in the slot near your hotel room door to activate all the lights.

The lobby is beautiful. It's elegant and had gorgeous fresh flowers, elegant furnishings and decor. There are several bars and restaurants. We ate at The Soak twice and the food was delicious and the service very good. You can either walk the beautiful staircases to take you to your room or take the lift. The lobby has a gorgeous chandelier. There is an upper lobby to sit in as well. Our room was nicely decorated and clean. It has an espresso machine and tea kettle with treats inside the cabinet. The drawbacks were the bathroom is quite small and if you have any mobility issues you would have difficulty getting in and out of the shower. That being said the shower has both a rain shower and handheld spray nozzle. Very nice features. Although the bedding was first class, the mattress was soft and somewhat mushy. We were disappointed in that. Overall it's a great location and we really enjoyed our stay.

The reason I booked this hotel is because you exit out the back and you're in Victoria Station. You'd think it would be a noisy location, but we slept on the top floor with the window open and didn't have a problem at all. There is a fridge with bottled water, a Nespresso machine, coffee cups and saucers. It's always nice to drink coffee and tea that isn't in a paper cup, isn't it? They have USB ports, but you will need a converter if you want to use U.S. electronics. If you like a Full English Breakfast, you'll be in heaven with their buffet. My hubby went for seconds. :) We loved The Soak. The food was yummy and the staff were all so friendly.

It's a little on the pricey side as you are paying for convenience and a moderate to higher end hotel. the location is located within the outskirts of terminal 5, by the car port/bus station. There's a connected walkway and takes about 10 min (walking at a leisurely pace and waiting for the elevator) to get from hotel to the trains. The hotel is quiet large. The room is nice, spacious (especially for London) and serves it's purpose. The front desk was non stop busy with tourists, families, solo travelers and business people coming or going throughout the day. If you need a nice, safe, clean, convenient place while in London for a short stay and are flying out of LHR, this is a solid place. It's in terminal 5 so departures are right there. If you are flying out of another terminal (2, 3 or 4) it's a quick free train ride.

Get rid of the frills and just get a bed and internet connection. Unfortunately, all I got was a bed. Being a solo traveler in a booked hotel meant that I was given the smallest room available. It was the size of my walk-in closet back home. The bathroom was this modular design that was placed in the room and the bed was a double. There was absolutely no space to stand up or put luggage anywhere. The bathroom was tiny and reminded me of those toilet/shower combos you see in trains or on ships. Also, I paid for wifi but the wifi signal was barely strong enough to get into my room. Also my particular room was on the 2nd floor and below me was a coffee shop. Apparently the coffee shop had it's stereo speakers built into its ceiling and I could hear music through my floor. Not pleasant at all. Only good thing is that the hotel is right next to the Tube so it's fast to travel anywhere in London. It's walking distance to the Parliament as well. In the future, I'd just pay extra for a better hotel or stay in a hostel and be annoyed by young travelers.

We stayed in room 114 and we had a very busy junction outside our window and a bright flashing billboard. So throughout the night the light from the billboard was coming through the crack of the side of the curtains so even though the curtains were blackout ones it did not totally prevent light from beaming in. Also the bed was very hard. However saying this the small room was adequate for a nights stay and was very clean and the staff at this hotel was very welcoming and pleasant.

The hotel itself and the rooms were all very comfortable and clean. They were quiet and the busy city didn't come into the rooms at all. We slept like babies that night. I would return to this hotel without a doubt. The staff for the hotel were very accommodating and made sure that we were welcome. We even left an item behind and asked if we could come back and get it a couple days later and they held it for us.

Some upsides: walking distance to Big Ben & Westminster Abbey, firm bed & the toilet is in a separate room from the shower, but inefficient service & location make this an unacceptable hotel for me.

Each morning there was a small set up with fruit, tea and coffee, and we enjoyed having access to sparkling water daily. They also sent us such a sweet gift of sparkling non alcoholic wine for our anniversary and my birthday. You really can't beat the facade of this place either. It's also a great location right by the Russel Square tube and my favorite bakery, Fortitude! It was easily walkable from SoHo, Covent Garden, and multiple great coffee shops as well.
