I had been researching for a while now for vegan food delivery that was not something I had to coo, but also not pre-made dishes that would be all re-heat carb based dishes (vs. salads and fresh raw ingredients). Thistle checks every box for me! What makes it even better, you can go in and customize your weeks (I don't like mushrooms so if a dish has mushrooms, I sub it out with a different one.) We are a professional vegan couple, short on time all the time to prepare healthy dinner, and Thisle has been a life saver for the last 3 months. We have twice a week delivery for 5 days of plant-based food, lunch salads and dinners (heat to serve). The price is based on how many you order per week, but our meals have been about $13 per meal, which is cheaper than most take out these days after tax and tip. We had a few incidents with late deliveries, but their customer service is quick to reply and remedy the situation. All in all, I recommend this food delivery service to anyone short on time. My husband and I started using Thistle four months ago. We absolutely love it!! Thistle has very balanced macros. We are plant-based. The ingredients are amazing. Using this service is cost effective both in our wallet and time. Sunday through Thursday we don't cook anymore that way my husband and I can spend more quality time together not cooking or cleaning. I would never be able to have as much variety in my diet if we were not using Thistle. Cooking for two people in a well balanced plant-based diet can be challenging if you want variety and limited waste. We have had a couple delivery issues. I emailed customer service and they responded right away a fixed the problem. The customer service team at Thistle is very helpful. The food is very delicious too. I'm so happy I found Thistle after trying so many other food delivery services. It was so hard to find any fresh food out there - everything was always frozen and nuked. Now I have delicious salads every day that I actually like - they're always tasty and they vary every day. Dinners are always fresh and interesting - no more endless chicken/broccoli.I even switched to vegan 6 days/week, even though I'm not vegan because I just don't miss the meat sources. I've been having weekday lunch and dinner delivered from Thistle for the past 6 months. Absolutely love it! We had blue aprons before but honestly, can't really be bother to cook even though the ingredients were right there. Thistle is perfect for our schedule. I have been a Thistle customer for about 3 months now and I love this service! Although I aspire to buy fresh ingredients and cook for myself, since I'm only cooking for one, I find that I tend to order out more than I would like, and usually is not very healthy. Thistle to the rescue! I don't have to worry about going to the grocery store with a long list and buying all of the ingredients; I don't need to worry that I am wasting fresh vegetables if I can't eat them all in time; I don't have to worry that I don't have the time to put together a nutritious and healthy meal - 3 lunches and 3 dinners per week arrive without fail on my doorstep and most importantly I don't have to worry about the food choices that I make. I've ordered Thistle twice, both times for a period of a few weeks. This time it has been during the pandemic when I found myself dealing with what I call the Covid-15 -- kind of like the Freshman-15 where you gain 15 unwanted pounds your first year in college but without all the fun, late night pizza and beer drinking. I figured healthy, vegan meals would help me combat the weight gain and fatigue from eating too much rice, pasta and other nonsense. It's good food -- some of it is GREAT. I would give it 5 stars but I did find that the choices get a bit monotonous after a few weeks of deliveries. Felt like same ol' / same ol and my palette got a bit bored AND it is a bit pricey. That said, the food is fresh and some of it is very inventive and having fresh juices delivered is a real perk. I will definitely use Thistle again. One of my favorite things about the food is that many of the choices can be eaten cold OR hot - just lightly sautéed on the stove for a few minutes. It gives me another choice depending on how I'm feeling. The food is delivered quietly early in the morning and it's in a great bag with an ice pack so even if it's delivered at 5am and I don't grab it until 8am or whenever, it's still fresh and cool. It's very convenient to have the pre-made meals. I recommend Thistle for sure, but for me it works best for a period of a few weeks to get back on track - just too costly to have delivered all the time and I did get a little tired of some of the selections. But for short bursts of great, healthy food, you will be happy so I would suggest giving it a try. P.S. I also lost a pound a week eating it and definitely felt like I had more energy and was less bloated and irritable! :) read more

I tried Thistle one week before discontinuing. I will give them props for the abundant fresh vegetables. Some people complain about the lack of protein in meal delivery services, but I personally value fresh vegetables, and they definitely give you a lot in their salads. I also didn't have any issues with the delivery. I deducted stars for a couple reasons. The first is that I got horribly nauseous after eating one of their salads. Like 24-hour-can-barely-walk nausea and dizziness. I don't want to accuse them of giving me rotten food, because at the time I had also been starting a medication, and it's possible it was a side effect. Really, my rating deduction comes down to this: The food, while expensive and organic, just isn't... good. I live in Los Angeles; I know "healthy food" can taste good. This didn't. The seasoning they used on their chickpeas was terrible (even before I got nauseous), and they put chickpeas in everything! Their smoothies, while not bad, were not good enough to warrant their breakfast price. I make my own smoothies regularly, and the result is better and cheaper. I respect their commitment to the quality of their ingredients, but they need to focus now on the quality and variety of their recipes. read more

Thistle was the 6th meal delivery service that I have tried during covid. It is head and shoulders above the rest. The taste, the freshness, the creativity ... we have not had a bad meal. I am allergic to soy and all of their soy replacements (chick peas, black beans, etc) have been delicious. We now have it delivered twice a week. And we have canceled (almost) every other meal delivery service. We kept Daily Harvest because everyone in my family loves their mint cacao smoothies. All of our delivered meals are now Thistle. Horrible. Not tasty. They change $13.50 per meal and use cheapest ingredients. For example my Asian salad today was horrible, just lettuce, cabbage, carrots, some old tofu (why to bake it? why not put fresh tofu???), and few more things. Never arugula. I used to make my own salad with arugula almost every day. Their dressings full of vinegar and salt, I can not use dressing with vinegar. The portions are huge-500g, I asked them to serve in smaller portions 200-250g, they refused I asked if I can please come and take a look at the facility where they are making my food to make sure it is made according all sanitary norms, and they just ignored my questions Their delivery time is in a huge time frame from 5-8am and there is no notifications at least an hour ahead, only 2 min ahead. So you can't really relax in the morning, you are nervous all morning expecting that call (that's how they get inside my building) And the feeling from food as is if someone just threw it for you without attention and without love and food is energy so think about what energy you consume every day with such food made with negative attitude And where they are buying food? Is it organic? How do I know? Their website is very misleading. I live in the valley and although the website states that they hand-deliver to the "greater Los Angeles area", apparently my area of the valley is only eligible for overnight shipping. Additionally, if you are not in the hand-delivery area, you are NOT able to customize food items despite this quote which was taken directly from their website: "Can I pick which meals I receive? Yes. You are able to choose your meals with our substitution feature. Once you have selected the base plan (for example: lunch, 3 days per week), you are able to swap those lunches for dinners, breakfasts, juices, etc." I ended up cancelling just a few hours after I signed up for the service since I couldn't customize the food included in each shipment. And since I didn't get a chance to try the food, I can't comment on taste or quality, but I think it shows a distinct lack of integrity for the company to post statements on their website that are untrue. Had they prefaced with "For our hand-delivery customers, ..." I would never have wasted my time signing up in the first place. read more

I haven't even received my first meal yet and already canceled my subscription based on lack of costumer service. There's no one to talk to, and is solely based on email chains. I placed my initial order Jan 15 and still haven't been able to login and see my account details and change any settings. Was told the issue would be escalated to IT and it never was. I got two separate emails saying they had switched my delivery date based on customer feedback - then received a second saying I had 3 days to choose from. Poor communication all around. I'm sure this service works for some people, but I'm very very unhappy with the quality of the food and the exorbitant price, so I won't be continuing to order from them. For example, the item I chose that was supposed to be a "pesto" dish, only had two of the ingredients that make something pesto: basil and salt. Even without including cheese, it's just misleading to call something pesto if you're not going to put any nuts or olive oil in it. It's just pureed basil. Also the "spring veggies" were a giant pile of mushrooms which, one, isn't a vegetable, and two, is not what comes to mind when one thinks of spring vegetables (do crimini mushrooms even grow in the spring?? I'm fairly sure they are one of the more commonly indoor-farmed mushrooms and are found wild in the fall. Splitting hairs, but come on: spring veggies?) Beyond it not being the item Thistle claimed it was, it was just completely flavorless. The entire dish. Actually both of the dishes so far were. Really it's like paying $16 for one of those salads you could get at Whole Foods or wherever... except those actually taste like something. Maybe this service would make sense for someone living in a really rural place where there are no vegan or gluten free food options? But in LA it's waaay below the quality of food you can get at any of 100 vegan/gluten free restaurants and several dollars more expensive. I'll also add: don't believe them that this is for vegans and meat eaters. We paid more for the meat option and it's like 4 little hunks of basic chicken on top of a vegan salad. Overall, if it was just a difference in taste, I might not bother reviewing. I've officially been subscribed to Thistle for 15 weeks and can say that I still look forward to my meals! With all the variety in the menu, it has yet to get boring (as I've experienced with other services). Both my boyfriend and I have lost a few pounds, which is also nice. I'm currently getting 5 vegan dinners a week and my boyfriend is getting 5 protein dinners a week. I was previously getting the lunches (salads) and eating them for dinner, but now that the weather's a bit cooler, I switched to the dinners. There's also an option to subscribe to breakfast, lunch, snacks or if that's too much of a commitment, you can add items to specific deliveries. They will also try to accommodate your allergies if you have any. Cost has proven to be slightly higher than I was spending on groceries each week, but it takes the guesswork out of planning and cooking balanced, nutritious meals after a long day at work; I'm also noticing a lot less food waste in my household, and I don't eat out as much either. Delivery can be a little tricky if you're in an apartment complex and the drivers don't follow the delivery instructions (have had meals stolen before) but Thistle customer service is fantastic and will resolve any issues. So far, I've had a really positive experience and plan on sticking with Thistle for a long time! read more

I have tried many food delivery services in LA, both before and after I went vegan and gluten free. Thistle has the BEST quality and best tasting meals by far. I've been with Thistle for over 3 months for many reasons. For one, they are the only meal delivery service that is organic and also has a vegan option that is also gluten free. Similar companies only offer a vegan OR gluten free option, but not both in the same plan. But the biggest reason I've remained a customer for so long is that their food is to die for. When I signed up I felt I was in need of more salads so I opted for the lunch and dinner plan 4 days a week and started subbing out any pasta or heavier dishes with salads. I figured I'd get sick of salads after a while and modify my plan but man was I wrong. Thistle provides so much variety in their meals and such varied ingredients in their gourmet salads with delicious dressings that instead of getting bored with salad I crave more and more every day. And that's saying something as I've always been big on variety and the type to spend a ton on eating out or on groceries because I hate leftovers and absolutely hate eating the same thing twice in a row. I also love the bowls! Last week I got a poke bowl that was made with beets and man it was amazing. I don't know what kind of magic Thistle does in their kitchen but somehow they managed to make beets the flavor and consistency of high grade poke and it was a dream, especially since I had been craving poke lately but disregarded it as I'm vegan. I actually spend less on this meal delivery service then I use to spend on groceries weekly for the above reason. Delivery has been on point. Just be sure to bring your meals inside and put in fridge as soon as you can. These are fresh veggies after all so don't leave them on your front door step for half a day. They try to give veriaty, so it doesn't get boring. The customer service is great and very responsive. The app makes everything convenient and quick. It's hard for me to see some of these reviews because Thistle has honestly changed me and my husband's life. We both look forward to coming home every day to warm up our Thistle and eat together! We are signed up for dinner delivery only (vegetarian option), Monday - Thursday, and have been subscribed now for about four months. Every dinner is delicious, diverse, and healthy and has been delivered on time, neat and tidy. Both my husband and I have lost some weight (without trying) and feel just naturally more energized by eating better. We didn't eat that bad before, but I do think Thistle has diversified our diet and added more fiber and nutrients. I also should note, we aren't vegetarians, but subscribed to the vegetarian option because we wanted to try to eat meat only once/twice weekly. As "meat eaters", we have not found the vegetarian options to be lacking in the least! On top of this, we have actually SAVED money with the subscription because too often we would do a big haul at the grocery store and end up having some waste or rotting vegetables in the fridge because we didn't get to them on time. I hated that and I think that's what I love most about Thistle - the fact you just drop all contents in a sauce pan, heat, and done. No waste, no wasted dollars. Not worth it in my opinion... For the cost, the salads have such a tiny amount of animal protein and I've been consistently hungry. I've even added the baby avocado to every lunch.. still not enough. In this city organic salads are plentiful for $12, and they include enough grains and meat to fill you up. Breakfasts are small and rarely include yogurt/probiotics. We are truly impressed with Thistle. The food is delicious but almost more importantly for my husband it's reliably gluten free. He is a severely sensitive celiac and can't eat out anywhere without a bad reaction which for him are MS like symptoms. We have favorites of course but we never request special meals because we look forward to the variety of choices each week. I've only ever ordered their dinner options as I see no point in spending $13 to have granola bowls or salad delivered. The dinner meals are tasty enough, fresh & the portion sizes are on point. I do not enjoy cooking (or driving around trafficy LA), so meal delivery is the perfect option. I did get a duplicate meal in one of my deliveries once, but customer service credited my account right away. I have been ordering through Thistle for 4 months - just the lunch option. I love how creative the salads are each week and they leave me feeling full! The price point is reasonable for my area in downtown Santa Monica. I haven't had any issues delivering to my building which requires a code to get into it. I've also been able to easily pause deliveries when I'm traveling through the app. Customer service is also very responsive. The only con I see is that the meat option is a little chicken heavy. Maybe once a week I get something other than chicken (usually pork, never beef). When I've been away and traveling, I look forward to coming home to my Thistle lunches.
