After talking to THISTLE's kind customer service we conceived a plan of action, which includes a lockbox and a code specifically for them. I am so happy to say, every delivery has made it through the gauntlet so far without a hitch. This service has changed my world. The menu is diverse and hearty. I have an auto immune disease that requires organic and plant based foods only. This service has taken on all the heavy lifting for me!!! Problems with delivery. Problems with app changing my order without my consent. Meals are bland and get to be repetitive and boring - it's always a bowl or a salad. PLUS, the kicker for me to cancel was pieces of plastic in my food. They use a lot of plastic in the packaging, and it's a nightmare to deal with that much recycling, but when you find plastic in your food, like actually pull it out of your mouth because you were chew on it? Thistle is a bit pricey, but generally pretty good and healthy and convenient. But their meals start to taste pretty similar after a while and they are very quinoa heavy. They also have very limited allergy options and you have to change your orders really far in advance to avoid them. I've had to contact customer service several times. You can only leave a message, which is annoying! If you are able to speak with someone, they tend to be be helpful. But their email responses leave a lot to desired. So, five stars for convenience, 4 stars for the food, 3 stars for the price and the long lead time to cancel or make changes to your order 2 stars for their limited allergy options. read more

Thistle has been an absolute game-changer for both me and my wife. Prior to Thistle, I would find myself struck with the sudden realization at noon every day that I needed to figure out what I was doing for lunch, and either leave work for an hour to get lunch, or pay delivery fees on top of the cost of lunch to have it brought to me. Because I was making this decision while hungry, I was even more prone to eating unhealthy foods and/or over-eating and would therefore feel sluggish throughout the afternoon. Additionally, because I was going through this process every lunchtime, I would be distracted, deciding what I'm going to eat based on what "sounds good", then tracking the delivery, and finally hunting down the delivery person in our office complex. On top of everything, I was paying more for my lunch + delivery fees than I do now. With Thistle, my healthy, well-portioned lunch is ready when I am. When we're super busy, I can eat at my desk while continuing to get things done. When we're not so busy, I can go for a walk at my leisure, or go out for a coffee in the afternoon. For dinner, the challenge is similar but different. My wife and I are extremely busy, both in the entertainment industry. Figuring out and preparing dinner was always an act of service performed by the first person to get home. But when that person was often getting home after 7:30P, it meant very little quality time to unwind from a stressful workday. So often, any cooking would be replaced by "picking up something on the way home" or again, delivery. Additionally, every Sunday had to include a trip to the grocer, and there was an embarrassing amount of food waste. The total costs associated with the process rivaled or even exceeded the cost of having 2 Thistle dinners waiting at home - and again, the healthy nature of the meals and the portion control offered by Thistle help us be healthier overall. Our family has been incredibly impressed by Thistle thus far, offering us healthy, tasty vegan meals without the hassle that it previously involved. And compared to our old habits, we're saving money overall. I wish there were a way to effectively reuse the food containers, as the plastic waste is the only drawback of the entire process - but even still, it's less plastic waste than we were using when getting food delivered, and far less food waste as well. Great food but delivery is a MESS. I have been a thistle customer on and off (mostly on) since 2017. I have ordered 6 lunches and 6 dinners per week the entire time I've used their services (and sometimes snacks, but they're pricey). The food is great and helps me get my nutritional needs met, which is super important for me as I have some chronic health issues - cooking often becomes painful for me, and I have high nutrtional needs to keep my health issues in check. It's super fresh, has enough variety to keep me satisfied, and has a high amount of fiber and protein (both plant and, if you add meat, sustainable animal protein). The delivery, however, is another story entirely. TLDR - if you live anywhere where you need to leave even the slightest/shortest of instructions for them, don't bother with this service. From 2017- 2022, even though all they needed was a building code to get into my building, they still left the food outside half the time because... they couldn't be bothered to read instructions? I truly don't know. I moved several months ago, and needed to leave more detailed instructions. The first set of instructions asked them to call me if the gate was closed and to not just leave the food on the street... once again, mostly couldn't be bothered. The second set added some detail, but the food was still mostly being left on the street or was MIA. This third set, per thistle's request, includes maybe 10 pictures of the path they need to take (just in case, because cleaaaarly there are issues). I received deliveries as requested for maybe 2 weeks, and now they are MIA again. Look thistle, I know you probably have a lot of customers and whatnot, but you are a food delivery service! The food is on point but you need to do better with the delivery part. Especially now that you are charging us for every single delivery! You need to keep in mind that there are several reasons you may not be aware of that inform why your customers leave instructions - disability, age, mobility issues, etc. If you are going to offer delivery to a place of our choice, then deliver it to that place. At this point, less than 5 months at my new address, these deliveries have become a source of stress for me. So if the next delivery is also MIA, I'm canceling my subscription for good. This is I think our fifth week on Thistle, and I felt compelled to come leave a review since I did one for the other meal services we tried. There are a number of them available in this area, but compared to something like Sakkara for example, we found Thistle to just be all around better. The portions are bigger and have more substance to them (which my husband is grateful for since he's a tall dude), there is nutritional/calorie info on each meal, and often they're just plain tastier too. If you have never tried a meal delivery service, I think Thistle's the way to go. Beautiful, healthy, tasty food magically shows up on your doorstep three times a week. What's better than that? We feel good, we've each lost quite a bit of weight in the last few weeks, and eating dinner together is totally painless. Nobody has to cook or do the ordering, it's just ready to heat and eat. My one con on Thistle is that the couriers don't seem to have a key to our apartment complex for some reason even though most other courier services do, so I need to manually buzz them into the building with my phone when they call in at like 6:01 AM in the morning. It's a slight annoyance, but worth losing 30 seconds of sleep over. Regardless, if you do not live in a home or condo with its own doorstep, be aware that this might be a problem for you too. read more

I've waited about six months to write this review because I wanted to get the initial kinks worked out before giving a rating, but I can honestly say that Thistle has been life-changing. I'll be a subscriber for as long as I can. I hate cooking of any variety and was always strongly convenience-driven when it came to my diet. I would eat whatever was in front of me, for better or for worse. I never planned ahead for my meals, and as a result I was stuck in a vicious food cycle: fail to plan -- get hungry -- look at the same 2 or 3 unhealthy options in walking distance of my work and decide not to eat them cause I'm sick of them -- go back to the office -- become starving -- eat at the same 2 or 3 places again anyway. I *knew* I should be eating better and I was desperate for variety, but there was no way I was going to cook it for myself. Praise the Lord I found Thistle. I don't live in an apartment, so I've had no problems with missing deliveries like other reviews I'd read. My food shows up at my doorstep 3 days a week. I put absolutely zero thought into it. Seriously, this is *the best* thing I pay for all week. I wasn't thrilled with every meal right at first, and initially I thought the portion sizes were on the small size. It took me a few weeks to adjust to the new flavors and figure out what sort of dishes I liked, but since then I've really enjoyed almost everything I've gotten and each dish fills me up. I really appreciate all the exotic fruits and vegetables I have in my diet now, which I would never have discovered on my own. I usually get breakfasts and dinners but sometimes will swap out for lunch -- Thistle's salads are *amazing*. I used to hate salads, but Thistle has converted me. The lunch flavors tend to be lighter than the dinner flavors, which are more potent and sometimes earthy. If you are new to eating super-veg, I would say start with the salads and work your way up to some of the more experimental dinners as the flavors grow on you (they will). I get 10 meals a week and am happy to pay the $12 price point for the convenience and investment in my health. I'd definitely encourage anyone who needs a little help eating well to try out Thistle! Their delivery driver mistakenly delivered my neighbor's (three doors down) to my home. Okay, that happens. But then to compound matters, he took my bags of food (from a different delivery company) apparently thinking they were bag returns. The bags from my company are a completely different shape and color. Plus THEY HAD FOOD IN THEM. Tried to call Thistle to report the problem but could not get a live person. I'm 4 weeks in and really enjoy the food and the variety. I get lunch and dinner for 3 days a week. Every week has a different menu. In general I find the food fresh and delicious. I don't expect it to be "amazing", but for a meal delivery service the food is quite decent. And I appreciate that calorie and protein counts are listed on the package. I so badly wish I could have kept on with Thistle. Their menu variety is above average in comparison to their Los Angeles-area counterparts. Their customer service is also exceptional! If they could figure out how to keep their meals fresh, they would absolutely dominate. Unfortunately, their thinly-insulated delivery bags matched with half-melted ice packs cannot keep greens fresh. At first, I thought the spoilt spinach and arugula were due in part to my inability to bring the food inside until an hour or so after delivery...but even after changing my schedule to be able to collect the food immediately when it was delivered, I still found the greens to be slimy and inedible by the time they made it to my front door. I became known at my office as the girl with the garbage-smelling salads that would stink up the entire space the moment I opened them. I had thistle in 2021. Problems with delivery and all they would do is credit your account and not give you back your money. Stupidly, I thought I would try them again in 2023 and see if there were improvements being that I have no time to cook. Once again, 2 of my last 6 orders are wrong. One is for someone else in the next city over (so guess what, they got the wrong order too) and then one of my orders never arrived at all! What good is a credit to your account when you can't even depend on food arriving at all. I mean, Doordash doesn't have this problem. It's insane. Food: if I could give it 6 stars I would. The food is phenomenal. The flavors are excellent! I've never had restaurant quality organic and healthy meals like the ones from Thistle. Really fresh and delicious. Also the dinner and lunch portions are generous and they're very diverse. What I love most is how each meal contains a variety of different colored veggies. You know you're getting a nutritional powerhouse each time. It's also nice that they include nutrition labels with each meal so you can see exactly how much you're getting of what. Every meal is chock full of vitamins and plant protein. Love it! The cons: delivery is only available on Fridays. And my meals seem to arrive at 8 pm or later. It's annoying but oh well. I was really looking forward to using this service, but Thistle doesn't have its delivery/shipping details worked out as a service yet. I live in a building that requires key access for security - extremely common for the apartments in my area. Most meal delivery services get around this issue by delivering directly to the management office during the day - since Thistle delivers overnight, this isn't an option. We also have on-site delivery lockers at my complex (just like Amazon lockers) but Thistle won't deliver there either. Thistle's website says it also ships to any location in California - but if you live within a delivery area, they will not ship to you. This is disappointing - they can't complete a delivery at my address, yet they also refuse to ship to me... thus I'm out of options as a customer. Bummer. read more

I'm really grateful to have found this service, this is truly responsible eating, but it tastes delicious. I actually do notice that I feel better and have more energy a few weeks into eating their food for about 75% of my diet. They have a knack for sauces that is really the thing that makes this food stand out. It's really healthful, stays fresh in the packaging, it's nutrient-dense but has great flavor. I've had no delivery issues at all, thus far. I do wish they would address some sustainability issues in their packaging, but the food is amazing and makes you feel better overall. Doesn't matter how delicious the food is if the deliveries go awry then just don't happen altogether. The first delivery was good, no issues, at the doorstep as promised. Placed bag outside as instructed by food service, but the delivery person did not take the bag, and left food on other side of gate (dropped over gate). Contacted, representative through their "chat" option, which was less than stellar, and finally got the matter resolved through email. Nope. Thistle's resolution: no meals and I am stuck with shipping materials they promise are picked up with new delivery. UPDATE: after promising last friday (2/09/2018) in writing that they cancelled the subscription and that I'd see a refund for the full amount already charged* plus a refund for the undelivered meals, I have received another order. *The company's representative lied about charging in advance for the next weeks'(now this week's) meals. This is the best food delivery service I have tried. I tried the send-you-all-the-ingredients,you-cook kind (just too lazy), and the fully prepped (too salty and overcooked). This feels fresh, easy and the food is really good. Sometimes one meal feeds both my husband and I and sometimes I add an extra vegetable to get it there. I really like that they cook the stuff that needs an extra bit (like broccoli) but leaves the greens and more delicate vegetables for when you toss it in the skillet. Most of the food tastes fine. But the knife skills would not pass muster in most professional kitchens. I have food allergies, and while they say they will not send food with your allergen, I have repeatedly received food I cannot eat, even though I had substituted it out. They have also sent unlabeled food and food has been missing altogether. On top of that, the delivery rarely makes it to my door, even when I have the bag to be picked up waiting there. I am fortunate enough to live in LA, with many healthy food options. For a mom of 2 kids under 4, that works full time, wants to eat healthy and has no time to prepare work lunches - Thistle has been great! The salads leave me feeling satiated and nourished. Fresh salads with protein come to my door and I put them in my work bag each morning before I jet out to work for school drop-offs. It ensures I eat light and healthy and don't skip lunches because I spend 40 minutes trying to figure out what to order at 4 pm and decide to just wait until dinner. I found the dinners to be hit and miss and would have preferred some of the hot dishes to be a bit simpler. Thistle is by far the best service in its category. And I should know: I've tried them all. I'm not one of those "grilled chicken over salad," "food is energy" guys. I'm a foodie: I like truffles on pasta and In-N-Out Burger. Lately, though, too much gluten and dairy is a ticket to a two-hour toilet show. To top it off, I'm an executive, and at the end of the day I barely have enough energy to throw stuff at a pan. I was desperate for a service that would deliver healthy AND delicious meals to my door, but thought I was chasing a unicorn. Everything I tried was either healthy and awful, unhealthy and just OK, or somehow unhealthy AND awful. (I'm looking at you, chimichangas.) Then, Thistle walks in like a lifeguard hunk in an 80s movie, ready to save the day in the style. Nevermind the healthy; this service is the best based on taste alone. And it's not just meals: it's juices, coffee, soups, and even baby avocados if you want 'em. Forget the lifeguard metaphor; Thistle is a hippy mom giving you stomach acupuncture while Joni Mitchell plays on Pandora. I thought I'd give Thistle a try because, for a short time it was going to only be me and I wasn't in the mood to cook for one. The photos of the food looked appealing and their descriptions innovative. I decided to go for the vegan option, even though I'm not vegan. I figured I could always add a boiled egg or some leftover chicken if necessary. I was pretty excited to receive my first delivery. I live in a regular house on a street. No gates, no gang mailboxes, nothing confusing. I got up on a Monday morning, expecting to see it there right outside my front door. Nope. So I put on shoes and changed out of my bathrobe, and wandered past the cars in my driveway. Finally I spotted it down by my mailbox just off the curb. I had left delivery instructions to leave it at my door by a pillar right there. I wondered, do they think a mailbox is a pillar? I was annoyed because not much was cold anymore from sitting in the sun, and the bottom of the cooler was soaked. The food was on top of the ice pack. I should think a meal delivery service would know to put the pack on top. Remember your basic science? Heat rises, cool sinks. Putting food on top of the pack just meant the bottom of the first layer of was a little cool. I brought the thing in and quickly put the contents in the refrigerator to try to revive it. Luckily it wasn't too far gone. I received an email, asking how my first delivery was. I mentioned that it needed to come to the door, not be left at the street. The response was that they'd update my delivery instructions. Really? It was already in my delivery instructions, so I fail to see how that would help. Part of the reason I signed up with Thistle was that they did their own deliveries, assuring that everything would be handled with care. I was so disappointed that they couldn't manage to walk up a short driveway to put food I paid serious coin for, where it was supposed to be. I envisioned the delivery like the newspapers: drive by and toss it somewhere near the driveway without even stopping. Ok delivery rant over. I thought the food was actually pretty good. The sauces and dressings were very well executed. But here is the problem I had with it: chewing. Mind you, I have all my teeth and don't mind chewing. But, omg, everything has to be chewed up really well before swallowing. With much of the food either raw or par-cooked... chew-chew-crunch-crunch. My jaw actually started to ache a little and I got tired. So, based on the lazy delivery, the thoughtless response from customer service, and the fact that I had to expend more calories than the food had, to masticate it, I decided to cancel after the first week. I think I can probably go to Whole Foods a couple times a week, to purchase the same nutritional value from their prepared food section. As a new Thistle subscriber, I didn't pause a delivery in time for a last minute work trip. After a quick email, a customer service Rep - Dani - sorted it all out for me. Dani even remembered a previous question I'd sent in! They have a way to rate meals in case there are dishes you didn't love as much, it's easy to swap out selections, and the portion sizes are much more satisfying than most pre-made meals. I definitely consider the cost of the meal subscription an investment, but with the way my body feels, I so appreciate Thistle. read more

I also hate cooking and I'm really slow in the kitchen. I've been getting Thistle three times a week for about three months, and it gives me back about three hours of cooking time every week - which is huge. Not to mention the reduction in stress levels! I'm not vegan, but I'm gluten and lactose intolerant and have a lot of digestive problems, and my stomach LOVE Thistle meals. Then I have to scramble and figure out how to feed my family for the following few days. It's very stressful. The customer service is completely lacking as well. When notified about a missed delivery, they simply say that they will refund your money (and act like they are doing you a big favor for doing so).
