I had admittedly neglected my oral health for over a decade when I chose this practice to get me back on track. It was an unfortunate decision. The first hygienist made several disparaging remarks about my teeth while she was cleaning them, as did the second hygienist a few months later, "tsk-tsking" as she went about her work. When I told the dentist that I would like to get my old amalgram fillings removed she became hostile and talked to me like I was an idiot, declaring that there was "no science" saying that it is unhealthy to have mercury in your mouth! I had to have a crown and the dentist and her assistant talked about me while she was grinding down the cracked tooth as if I wasn't in the room. The dentist then left it to the tech to fit the temporary one. She was so inexperienced and sloppy that I had to rinse off before I left the office and found dental glue in my hair when I got home! At that appointment I was prescribed an antibiotic, and she chose Cipro. That class of antibiotics causes all kinds of side effects so I called back and asked her to call in a different one. The dentist refused and told me to go to my doctor if I wanted something different, which I did. I had avoided dental work because of my intense fear of it and my experience here made it far, far worse. I'd go so far as to say that they traumatized me further. When I changed dentists I got compassionate care without all the ineptitude. That's been several years ago but I still get a shiver down my spine when I drive past this office.

Then the hygienist hurt my daughter's gums so badly she had bruises the day after, and the dentist blamed my daughter for being anxious and in pain, saying she wouldn't treat her anymore. She also said she had many cavities, but when I asked her to be more specific, she hesitated to show them to me on the x-rays; then she began circling spots here and there, saying that they were caused by drinking soda, which my daughter doesn't drink. Seriously, you're supposed to be the expert? This is a shameful practice claiming to be 'gentle' but really just mediocre, insensitive and disorganized to say the least, not to mention somewhat dishonest as well.

I didn't have a dentist in Asheville yet, so I searched around for one with good reviews. I was able to get an appointment very quickly, and Dr. Peterson did a great job with the filling. I ended up making a new patient appointment after that, and my teeth were cleaned, X-rayed and photographed at angles I never knew existed. They don't cut corners here! I've since had some 10-year-old fillings replaced by Dr. Peterson, as well as new composites on my two front teeth where the old ones had chipped. The composite repair took several tries because of difficulties matching my tooth color, but they made it right with no extra charges. I have been blown away by the amazing customer service at this practice, and the overall kindness and awesomeness from everyone I've interacted with here. Price wise- well, I didn't comparison shop, but I'm thinking the prices here are about average for a high quality dentist. You get what you pay for. This place is worth it!

Three months before my first appointment I asked them to check my insurance coverage because it's out of state. They refused and said that they would do that a month before the appointment ... if I reminded them. I did remind them at the one-month mark, and they could not navigate my insurance company's authorization process. My previous dentist had been doing it fine for four years so it's squarely a problem at Embark Dental. Three days before the appointment they asked me to send pictures of my insurance card, which I did. But it wasn't until the morning of the appointment that they texted me to say that they (mistakenly) thought my insurance only covered medical. That's an odd assumption considering that my insurance company had been paying my dental bills for the previous four years. When I arrived at their office, they still had not managed the simple navigation of a Blue Shield insurance agency. They wanted me to give them a credit card. They were basically saying that since they were so incompetent that they could not determine that I was actually covered for dental, they wanted to be able to tag my credit card to cover their inabilities. Then they wanted to digitize my driver's license. I am a former designated security officer for the Air Force, I have spent my whole life in high tech, and I know that digitized IDs are the new form of ID theft. When I declined to let them digitize my driver's license, they said that would be a requirement. I left. Save yourself the problem of leaving their office by not going there to begin with. You'll also save yourself a ton of unnecessary aggravation.

Things have changed in eleven years! Got extractions and upper denture here 11years ago and they…read morehave been great. Went back to get lower dentures 1/19/23 which first required 11 extractions. I should have known I was in trouble when dentist broke the needle while sewing gums together! He blamed it on the quality of the needles since dentist said he had also broken one the previous day. Two charges on bill was $285 each for alveoloplasty which is smoothing the areas teeth were removed from so when stitched together there are no sharp edges under the gum line and creates a seat for new dentures. I was awake for the entire procedure and there were no procedure performed to smooth anything. That's one reason 10 days later I'm having excruciating pain whenever I insert lower dentures. Instructions informs patient to call office if pain and bleeding persist. I called office on day 5 due to stiches coming loose and bleeding. Receptionist said it would be 5 days before I could be seen. 2/10/23 went back to office on day 10 due to pain and stiches had come loose and out. Technician went ahead and took all stiches out. I asked had stiches been in long enough in which she replied yes. Now at home where stiches were, the two flaps of skin is pulling apart with bleeding! Then the new temporary dentures received had sharp edges which had cut inside of my mouth, bottom and top dentures were hitting upper and bottom parts of my mouth, but for new dentures, I guess adjustments are always needed. But when dentures are first inserted, sharp edges and excessive size should be caught then. Just hoping no infection set up because so far my mouth feels as if someone had hit me in the face with a baseball bat. I will have to call office again Monday morning, hopefully I can be followed up by a dentist. 2/15/23 Went back to Asheville Affordable Dentures for follow up due to pain, at first technician started adjusting dentures because both were way too long hitting top and bottom of my mouth. I insisted on seeing the dentist Dr Noble, after checking me, he told me I just needed to tolerate denture's for period of 4 to 5 months then I would love them. As he examined my mouth I felt a foreign object protruding out of one of the extraction sockets and when touched it hit a nerve. When I questioned him, he said we could just leave it and then maybe it would work its way out, or he could numb my mouth and extract the object, I insisted that he did, It took him about 90 seconds for the whole process. 2/22/23 Mouth still extremely sore, I eat ibuprofen every 3 hrs just to endure having lower denture in. Mouth still bleeding in places and I seem to have another foreign object under the skin that moves around some, when denture inserted its right on top of object pressing it into bone. Guess I'm calling AAD again tomorrow. I knew when Dr Noble performed all the extractions, there were no suction of blood to see if there were any residual fragments of bone to clean or extract! 2/24/23 Pain and bleeding persisted, kept feeling another obect protruding through gums on left side of mouth with my tongue. Although it was bleeding, I took set of tweezers and pulled what appeared to be piece of bone out. No wonder had so much pain in this area when lower denture inserted.
