Our experience with Thomas Edison Electric was disappointing- payment was requested prior to the team finishing the job, communication was a daily challenge. They over promised on outcome and timeline and underdelivered on both- the work took an extra week with extra damage to our floors, and initially left wires very sloppy in the basement (they did fix things upon multiple requests). We had to insist on having a final walk through and communication about the inspection- I expected better transparency and communication from a professional company. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I called about getting a quote for an electrical panel replacement and they said there would be a $50 fee just for someone to give an estimate (a tactic they use to rope you into using them). I complained about this and they waived the fee. When Michael showed up to my house to look at our panel, he kept dodging questions about quotes and was asking me what other people were quoting before giving me a number once I mentioned that I did not want the service done that day and was shopping around. He ended up quoting me over $13K for a panel replacement (not even an upgrade- $15K for upgrade)!!! Insane. Then he was being extremely pushy and pressuring me that my issue was urgent and I needed to decide that day or my house would burn down (spoiler alert- it didn't). I had 3 other electricians quote for the same work in the $4-6K range which included the panel upgrade so we ended up getting it done by someone else for less than 1/3 of their quoted price. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could! Mike came to our house to fix what should have been a minor thing. When we were changing a lightbulb in our overhead light, a portion of the lightbulb got stuck in place and we couldn't get it out. We have a regular electrician that we use, but since this was such a minor thing, we decided to call someone who was a bit closer. Biggest mistake ever. Mike came in with the goal of upselling. He charged us $395 for a "diagnostic" of our existing electric panel and outlets, hence determining that they needed to be replaced. The work we called him for took under 1 minute to complete. We thought this would be a quick job and my husband, Mark, initially started the interaction with him. When, after more than an hour, he was still there, Mark asked me to come downstairs so he could begin his work shift (we both work from home). I had been upstairs with our 2 dogs, attempting to keep them from barking at Mike, jumping up, etc. When I came downstairs, Mike was outside in his truck working up the quote for our electric system and sockets. This took him ... so long to complete. Meanwhile, my house was left in shambles. He propped himself up on a shelf that we had hanging on our wall, knocking it over. That was still on the floor, along with the knick knacks that had been on top of it. In telling us our fire protection was insufficient, he removed a smoke detector from our upstairs ceiling and didn't put it back. We had inquired about a socket that had only one working outlet and asked for a price to replace it. When I came downstairs, the socket cover was off and an instrument of some kind was protruding out of it. When he finally came back in our house, I was annoyed by the state he had left everything in. I felt as if he did a shoddy job on what we actually called him for in hopes that he'd snag more work from us. Mind you, he took payment before going outside to write us a quote for the electrical upgrades, but again, didn't replace the items he moved. Mike made a big deal about the socket, telling my husband he'd replace it for "free." It's not free when we were charged $395! BUT, if the cost wasn't enough, the socket STILL DOES NOT WORK. We still can only plug one thing in. For whatever reason the lamp we have sitting next to our couch will not fit into the outlet. Mark called and asked about it and Mike told him that it's tight initially. We have both tried several times to plug it into that outlet with no luck. It works in every other outlet except that one. To add insult to injury, when Mike finally came back in our house after writing a ridiculous quote for thousands of dollars he calls out "Mark." I said that Mark was upstairs. "Is he available," he asks me. I tell him Mark is working and that I'm his wife. "Is Mark available," he says. I'm annoyed at this point and say "it's weird that you didn't finish work that we paid you for before going to write another quote." He seems confused. I go and get Mark and he goes over the quote with Mark, but won't look at me, or hold the quote close enough that I can even see it. This was totally disrespectful. We make decisions together and ignoring me was completely unacceptable. We will never again use Thomas Edison Electric Inc. again and do not recommend them. read more

This business uses slimy sales tactics. I wanted two outlets put in my attic. The tech said since the attic was already remodeled, it would be "hard" for him to do from the inside. he wanted instead to make it into a bigger project with external wiring through tubes outside the house for $6,500. he also suggested other "more urgent" upgrades unrelated to my request which would also have cost $6,500. I paid the inspection fee and declined the offers. I then was contacted several timea after the fact by the business trying to negotiate the price and offer me "season coupons." i will instead contact a smaller business who will actually be willing to do the work I request and not try and loop me into a bunch of unnecessary work and expense. read more

Their most recent price came in at double or triple their competitors. Worse, the estimate, I subsequently learned, would not have even passed inspection! Their estimator failed to check even basic facts. This came about after we learned that the work they did two years previously was done poorly: specifically they replaced 1 of 3 40-year-old fuse boxes. To do so, they had to drill and run a wire through five floors of cement, but they did not even suggest that while they were there, and considering the age of the other boxes, it would practical to run (neutral - not live!) wires for the other boxes so that when the time came for those boxes to be replaced, we would not have to drill again at a cost of $10k-$20k. **Edited After writing my initial review, the company reached out to me and made things right. I appreciate their good customer service and would consider using them again. We called TE Co, because we smelled a burning odor and they sent someone out after asking if we would pay the $95 fee to come. We agreed and an electrician came out as promised that morning. He did not smell anything, but suggested a Major troubleshooting fee for about $1000. We said they was to high, he then suggested a minor troubleshooting for $350. He spent about 30 minutes at our house, told us he fixed an outlet, which didn't work a day later: He also said we needed major improvements to our house quoting a price of $over 7,000. When we called about the outlet not working, the company said they would. One out for $250 to fix it. read more

I had a FedEx truck pull the power lines from my house, and was told by Peco i needed my house looked at by an electrician before doing the final connection to the house. In my panic i called this company, i originally thought they were great, on-time and professional they gave me a quote for $8k to repair my electric. I almost bought it hook line and sinker until i had time to clear my head and call a couple more electricians and have them look at it. And they came in almost $6k less. I am furious that they would try and take advantage over someone like that and sell me stuff i did not need. And they were the only ones that even charged me $200 to look at it. I would stay far away from this company unless you want a whole new electrical system to replace a light switch. Worst part is how they went about it makes it seem like this is their standard practice. And i almost bought it. read more

Zero stars should be a choice. This experience was the most disgusting interaction with a business that I have ever had. They requested that I authorize a nearly $700 charge "to evaluate the problem" (no repair, labor, or parts included.) And, this was in addition to nearly $300 just to to show up. When I balked and suggested that they evaluate for the most simple, obvious solution first, and then only go deeper if proven necessary, suddenly the evaluation charge dropped to less than $200. Interestingly, the $200 evaluation revealed the problem in full. This exact same story repeated itself when it came to the repair recommendation. I called out their unethical and dishonest practices twice, but only because I had real-time advice from another electrician during these exchanges. They attempted to take advantage of me and profoundly overcharge me. To be clear, they attempted to charge me nearly $2000 for a $50 breaker replacement. Beware. read more

Please do yourself a favor and call a small/family run electrical company and stay away from "corporate". This company overcharges you for basic needs and preys on desperate people who can't say no. There's a reason this company is corporate, they only care about making more money. The job may be done correctly, but you're paying way extra for it. I hired them to do an emergency service call for an outlet that was repeatedly tripping. After reading their poor reviews online, I decided to cancel the service visit. Unfortunately (and perhaps suspiciously) they still showed up, so I decided to hire them. They charged $225 for the service call which included no work (one worker came). They then convinced me to pay them $675 to do about 45 minutes of testing. They did not identify the problem. In retrospect, they vastly over charged me. I only agreed to it under pressure as I was concerned about potential fire risk. They could have easily alleviated this risk by telling me that the outlet was GFCI, but chose not to provide any advice in favor of promoting their overpaid service. While their overcharging was legal, I would recommend never hiring them. read more

Really fast response time. I called to make an appointment and someone was sent the same day. The only thing is that it costs $95 just to come look at the work to be done and if you're not satisfied with the quote you lose that money. It is a pretty big risk but we were in a bind so we had to trust we were given a fair price. Work done was great so we were satisfied. Good customer service. Very friendly. read more

I think the best part about my limited experience with this company was the lady who set up the service call, as I guess who was from their answering service. She was extremely friendly, polite, and professional. However, I did find it strange that she could not provide me with the cost of the service call, and said a technician would have to call me with that information. Several minutes later, I receive a call from a restricted number, and it was the tech, or some other guy with a god complex. He explained what the cost was, and then threw in that I would have to pay for this over the phone before the service call. Since when the hell does anyone do that? Yeah, let me hand you money when you call from a restricted number and sound like an asshole. I say I'm not comfortable with paying for this over the phone before the tech comes out, and he very arrogantly tells me okay no problem, he'll consider my service call cancelled. read more

I contacted Thomas Edison Electric on a Saturday afternoon after seeing smoke coming from the electrical panel in my home. I was concerned for the safety of my babies and home and contacted the company because they provided service on weekends an evenings. An electrician arrived after 5:00 p.m., examined the panel, said that it was the "worst water damage to an electrical panel" he had ever seen, and asked if I wanted the "good news" (he could fix it) or the "bad news" (it would cost $9200 and take 5-6 hours). Fearing an electrical fire in my home and feeling stuck with needing a repair done as darkness approached, I authorized the repair. Now that I knew what the problem was and what was needed (replacing a 200-amp electrical panel), and having a sinking feeling that $9200 was probably very overpriced, even for a Saturday night, I started to look online for estimates of what that repair should cost, and I saw several estimates that confirmed that we were grossly over-charged, and it should cost a couple of thousand dollars, max. I asked the electrician and his "friend," a non-Edison employee who came after the fact to help him, to stop work. I asked to speak to the supervisor. The electrician put me in touch with the owner, who immediately became defensive. I explained that I feared for the safety of my family and home with a potential electrical fire, panicked, authorized the repair, but after seeing what exactly the problem was, I found that $9200 was an outrageous amount for a job that other providers online estimated should be $2000-3000. The owner continued with his defensive, rude backtalk. I told him that I could not allow being charged $9200 for this job. He finally agreed to charge us $6500, and refunded the difference to my credit card - they charged my card for $9200 before they even started work. The owner told me that I could submit a claim to my homeowners insurance company to be reimbursed. The electrician and his "friend" completed the job by 9:00. It took them 3 hours, not the 5-6 hours quoted when I was given the estimate. My homeowners insurance company estimated that replacing a 200-amp electrical panel should cost $2786. An electrician who has worked in other homes in my neighborhood told me that he would charge $1500 to replace the panel, plus $300 for working on a weekend. After receiving this information, I called the owner and expressed my displeasure at being taken advantage of, and that I believed that they took advantage of a family who feared for their safety on a weekend when they wouldn't have an opportunity to get other estimates or find other service providers. I was met with more rude and unprofessional backtalk from the owner. This is an unethical company that takes advantage of homeowners in difficult situations. read more
