Very poor experience, and honestly, an embarrassing showing by people who should be experts in what I hired them for. First thing, they use an AI assistant during off hours. I was under the assumption my appointment was at 11am on Monday. Ended up not being until 3pm. Okay, fine, as long as they fix the issue, who cares. Well they didn't fix the issue and offered a laughable/no solution. The tech they sent didn't seem to be knowledgeable on either of my issues. I had two separate heating issues in two units of a building. One involved a gas boiler and the other involved electric baseboard heaters. For the gas boiler, the tech didn't seem to do adequate troubleshooting and simply told me the entire thing needed to be replaced, which would have been a +$10,000 job for them. These boilers can last 40 years, we're around year 20. When I pushed back, he then offered a smaller solution to replace the pilot light assembly to see if that works. As noted later, neither of these solutions are the actual needed fix. For the second issue with the baseboards, there was a completely disconnected boiler that was originally used but is no longer. While talking on the phone and through text, we confirmed that the baseboards were electric and not using the disconnected boiler. Prior to this revelation, he had also recommended that this boiler be completely replaced, another +$10,000 job for something that isn't even in use in the building. After we confirmed the electric baseboards, the tech did no type of troubleshooting to see why the baseboards weren't working. The tech ignored my last text to him, asking if he did any troubleshooting for the baseboards. Felt like the tech just wanted to clock out, not fix my problem. I ended up hiring a different company who came out and solved both problems easily. For the boiler, the wall controller in-unit needed to be replaced and it started working just fine. For the baseboards, the breaker it was on was loose and just needed replaced. Neither of these were mentioned or checked to my knowledge by the tech from GEN3. Seeing how poor the service was, it makes sense that they ask for their initial fee upfront instead of after the problem is solved. $79 wasted. I can only imagine how many unknowing people they overcharge when a simple fix is the actual solution. Shameful behavior. read more

I had Gen3 come to my home to relocate existing light and center it on the ceiling. They charged $317.50. When I asked if he could put up a different fixture instead of the one that he took down and now had to put back, while he had it down, he said it would be additional $156.77 for the exact same work that was included in the first charge. Needless to say that I did not pay. I would rather pay someone else to replace the fixture than Gen 3. And they sent inexperienced kid who wasted 2 hours before he started work to give me an estimate about other items that I didn't ask for. I was reminded again why I didn't use them when I had electrical issues. read more

The price of parts for "the wire" is less than a hundred dollars Gen three's price. $4100.00 is 8x what others are charging. Moreover, just to get an estimate it required at least 10 useless communications by phone, email, and text. After all of that they didn't bother to send me the estimate. I had to call back. They didn't send an electrician, they sent a salesman???? These people are preying on your fear of electricity. Don't call them...don't go near them. Just had routine servicing done on my well-functioning HVAC system for the first time with the company. I'm no expert, but the total came out to $978 which seemed excessive. I asked ChatGPT 4o if I got taken for a sucker and the answer is..... definitely. Their verdict was I was overcharged by $300-$500. Here's the breakdown of my charges, and what I learned: -Capacitor Replacement = $396. Typical 5 mfd run capacitor costs around $10-$50. Even with labor, this shouldn't exceed $150 in most cases. -Flame Sensor Cleaning = $234. Cleaning a flame sensor is usually a 5- to 10-minute job. Many HVAC companies include this as part of routine maintenance or charge at most $50-$100. -Blower Cabinet Cleaning = $150. This price is high unless it was an extensive deep cleaning, which it doesn't sound like given it was performed 2 years ago (with different company). They also tried to upsell me with $1,800 in upgrades to my system, which GPT says are "not outright unnecessary" but again the quote for parts and labor overcharge by $450-$850 vs local industry standard. Adding 1 star since they showed up the same week I contacted them for servicing. read more

Great service on a request to get an extra outlet designated to its own breaker so as not to have a winter heater/electric fireplace trip the breaker box, and Drew had to hunt around behind the walls for a junction box. So complex jobs are no issue at all for old houses where the wiring was put in piecemeal over time. I feel good knowing the outlet is safe and reliable now. What should have been a simple fix turned into my wall being ruined and a month since I asked for a resolution. They said they fixed the AC and I may not be happy with it "aesthetically." This is a joke. 2020- leaking AC. Fixed by blowing air through. Good job. 2022- Visit 1 leaked again. Under warranty. Came out and vacuumed the pipe (said was easier) and still leaked and somehow sold me an extra $100 to just vaccuum another tube and still leaked. Visit 2 blew air out finally but couldn't get the unit back on and slammed it back in. Started leaking after he left due to tube kinking. Marks and handprints where. Visit 3. Manager came and was great. Fixed issue temporarily during heatwave but was an inch gap. Said they'd send a team to take unit off and reinstall after cutting back some tubes. Visit 4- Guy from visit 2 came back. Instead of cutting tubes back, he raise the unit and left a huge hole and the wall was ruined and hardwood below got ruined from all the water leaking. Spackled it and it looked awful and said to let his manager know as they were in a rush for another job. Emails and calls later, they said they'd send someone to fix/ paint the wall. It's been over 35 days and no resolution. I waited long enough. read more

I love the fact Gen 3 emails and calls to confirm the appointment and arrival. We hired Gen3 to install a ceiling fan and replace a tamper resistant GFCI outlet and cover plate in my kitchen. Nel, the technician, discovered a slight knocking sound coming from the new ceiling fan he had just installed. Nel took apart the fan several times because he said he does not like to leave a client with a problem. Lo and behold, it was a label attached to a wire making the noise when the fan was turned on. I contacted GEN3 for a heat pump issue. My pump was not hearing or cooling. Also asked for a seasonal maintenance. Came out and diagnosed a dead fan motor. The $129 service call is not applied to the repair if they have to come back, which they did. I really want to know what kind of appliances and mechanicals you should buy to ensure you can get your parts from the "fully stocked truck" that they use. So a return visit the next day was required, which resulted in new charges of about $1100. I wouldn't have been upset if they had applied the original service call to the cost, but they kind of nickel and dimed me on that. The second thing I asked for was a seasonal service. This is something that I've seen all HVAC contractors offer. Basically, it's a filter change, and diagnostic of the roof unit and the blower, lubrication, along with a general cleaning of coils and other parts that need to be kept dust, free, as well as clearing of the condensate line from the air handler. All very standard stuff I've had done for the past 17 years a couple of times each year. Instead of just providing the service, they do a cursory visual inspection, and then recommend additional services. This included disassembly of the blower motor for a very thorough cleaning, which was about $900, and cleaning of the evaporator coils which was about $600. I was very surprised, as these seemed grossly overpriced. They seem to make the seasonal service, much more complicated than it needs to be, and appeared to nickel and dime you for everything. Well, their service response time was very good, and the repair seems to have been completed successfully, I would be very hesitant to call them for anything else because the big company pricing structure isn't great. -J read more

If you want to pay the highest price possible and get ripped off, go with Gen3. I was quoted a min of $10k (highest was around $20k!!) of electrical work to be done by one of their male reps. I then got two other inspection-certified electricians to also take a look and guess what? ALMOST EVERYTHING that NEEDED work, I was told absolutely did not need to be touched. Two completely separate, private and reputable electricians. The quotes I received from them you ask? $3-5k. My house is 720sq ft I was also not given a detailed and clear explanation of why I needed such an expensive "upgrade". Just that this and that was needed and they would provide a first patch to the walls. I hired Gen3 to install a new heating system last Oct. It completely stopped working last Friday (Thanks Giving) on a 32 degree night. I called them: No reply. I left messages and emails and texts. No reply. No heat until late Sunday night, off and on. When I called on Monday morning I was told that no one could come out until Wed ot Thurs. TLDR: overpriced and dishonest $3,700 quote for a job that ended up to be a free fix from PECO. False claims of "corrosion" and quoted for fixes that were entirely unnecessary. Had them come out to find out why the voltage going to my meter was imbalanced. The man was very nice and respectful, however there were many things that were off about the visit. First, he immediately said that I have a 60 amp service after looking at the breaker panel, even though it clearly had a 200 amp breaker on it and has 4/0 aluminum wire. Then he said that the meter socket needed to be replaced because of "corrosion" and all the wires going to the meter needed to be replaced as well. There was very mild corrosion on the outside of the socket but the wires were certainly not corroded. He quoted the entire job to fix my voltage imbalance at almost $3,700, which was over $1600 to replace the socket and almost $1800 to replace the ~20ft of wire at the service entrance. This seemed overpriced, but they will say it's because they are "professionals". I denied the quote and had a different electrician come by who told me it was actually just a loose neutral connection at the weather head and that that none of the wiring or meter socket needed to be replaced (it was completely replaced a little over 6 years ago), and that the problem was actually PECO's responsibility. I contacted PECO and they fixed it completely free of charge and I no longer have any issue with my electricity. Just having a second opinion saved me thousands of dollars being paid to this dishonest company. These people will try to get as much money from you as possible. I believe they are technically capable of performing jobs at high quality, but they will lie and upsell along the way. I strongly recommend getting a second opinion on any job this company quotes. read more

I called Gen 3 to install some dimmer switches in my house. They required a $39.00 visit fee at the time of booking, which would be deducted from the cost of whatever work you have done later. They did not tell me the cost for dimmer installation when I made the appointment on the phone. Osirus came about a week after I called, was very pleasant and did a great job at installing my dimmers. He wore a mask the whole time and put bootie covers over his shoes before entering. He also sent a photo of himself via text message to me before arriving, which I guess is part of their protocol - but I really liked it. My one and only complaint is that the prices here are higher than you'd be charged if you went with a smaller, family company. For example, it cost $80.00 for each dimmer to be installed and it would have cost me over $300.00 to have my Nest thermostat installed (I did it 100% on my own at my last house). Overall, though, I'm satisfied with the work that was done and the professionalism of their representative. read more

Charged $900 for a diagnostic test! Do not get ripped off like I did! I would not recommend due to high, unreasonable cost. I smelled gas in and around my house. I was flagged for a gas leak by PGW (Philadelphia Gas Works) who told me to call a contractor and turn off my heat. The PGW person gave me a HAZARDOUS CONDITION FLAG with an explanation as to the issue. The document was to be given to the contractor. A GEN3 Electric & HVAC technician advised that he "had no idea what the document meant" and had "no idea what the PGW guy was talking about". He ran a diagnostic and charged me $900! He turned my heat back on and left. Not only did I have to fork over $900 for a diagnostic test, I was given no explanation as what could have caused the leak, whether there was anything wrong, or what the discrepancy may have been. I expressed my concerns and issues with a company representative who advised that a supervisor would contact me yesterday, however no contact was ever made. After doing additional research and obtaining quotes from other companies (which I should have done beforehand), I realized that $900 for a diagnostic run is robbery. read more

It has been a PLEASURE to work with Gen3! I hired them for two different electrical jobs: First to upgrade my panel to 200 amp, and then afterwards a large re-wiring job throughout my house. All workers were very professional and friendly. Gen3 is a little more expensive than other electricians, but the fact that they pull permits for all their work speaks to their higher standard and quality. I could have saved money going with a different company, but then I probably would have down the road had to redo their work to get it properly up to code. To me, it is well worth the extra money - ESPECIALLY with electrical work! - to go the extra mile for safety (not to mention insurance protection). One additional aspect to mention is that, during the first job I hired them for, there was some accidental damage to my property. I called them and let them know right away, and they covered all expenses and worked with me all the way to make things right. I figure, things go wrong all the time with anyone you hire. So, to work with a company that is honorable and dedicated to customer service and who resolved the issue to everyone's satisfaction - without arguing with me - is the best one can hope for! New air and furnace installed 8/2020, COVID protocols followed, all the techs were very friendly and professional. However since the work was completed we have called Gen3 at least 5-6 times with issues. First the heater stopped working, then we woke to find water coming from the bottom, next it was a issue using central air. Each time, we called receptionists/office managers were very pleasant, made appointments. Techs arrived, explained what they thought the problem was, "fixed" it and left. But as of last week, once again we were dealing with water at the base of the furnace. Made another call and got another appointment this time, two weeks out. This is not what we expected from a brand new installation. We rated Gen3 4/5 stars months ago, but with each issue our confidence in this company and our aggravation grows. read more

We've had positive experiences working with GEN3 twice. Corey did a great job installing a new panel last year. When we were ready to have the knob and tube replaced, we called GEN3 again but also brought in a couple of other companies in order to be able to compare estimates. We were a little hesitant to pay the required fee for GEN3's knob and tube assessment, especially since we had already done a substantial job with them, but the fee was reasonable when we saw Mike's attention to detail in conducting the assessment (and in the end it was credited). Mike clearly communicated exactly what the job would involve and what the code requirements were, and carefully considered our wish list for new outlets and fixtures, etc. Given the estimates from three companies, we decided to put our confidence in GEN3 again. They had sent three different options, which gave us an opportunity to clarify our priorities with regard to our budget, and Mike was helpful and patient through a series of back and forths in this process. Aaron and his team, Dan, Andy and Dan, arrived to complete the job, which was estimated to last two weeks. They were consistently professional, polite and friendly, and we appreciated their being mindful of our pets, who were a little stressed about the goings on. Working from one end of the house to the other, each day they ran new wires, patched over each hole, installed new fixtures as needed, and left everything neat and tidy. Ultimately they finished a couple of days ahead of schedule. Jess and other folks in the office were great to work with as well, regarding scheduling and payment. When the inspector came to the house a few days later he said, "Oh, GEN3-they do great work, they make my job easy." We agree. read more

Today I called due to my A/C went out in my home. Luckily I called Gen 3 to service my unit and Matt came out and he did a great job. We had a hick-up with scheduling but I called and spoked told dispatch and Adrianna assisted me and Matt was here in 2 hours. I regret selecting this company when I needed heating services. Everyone is very polite and nice. This made me feel as if they could be trusted to provide good service. That was not my experience. My gas furnace broke and needed to be replaced. They provided an estimate that I agreed to. I also agreed to join a membership club they offered that promised a 5 year guarantee on their work, a small discount, a free electricity inspection and a free once a year heating check-up. The work was done within 3 days. So far, everything is fine. However, upon moving back into my home, it was still very cold. The home wasn't heated and the downstairs in particular was very cold. I had never had this problem before. My prior system was very warm. I asked them to come back a few different times to see if something was wrong. Each time, they said it was installed correctly and suggested that perhaps I needed new windows, insulation or additional radiator. My windows were newly installed in 2019. This also didn't make sense because I had never had this problem with my earlier system. Finally, someone mentioned that I had gone down in size for my furnace compared to the one I had previously installed. He said I hadn't needed such a big furnace as the one I had before. Well clearly I did because my house had never been chilly before! I trusted them to know the correct system for my home. That was a costly mistake. I decided to take advantage of my complimentary electric assessment as part of my membership access. I scheduled this visit and made sure to mention that I had knob & tube wiring. An appointment was made. The day of the visit, someone from the office called because the person originally meant to come out was unavailable. Someone else was sent instead. This person spent well over an hour in my home only to announce that because I had knob & tube wiring, he was unable to provide a quote and I would need another electrician to come out. I called the office to schedule that visit and was told this one would cost money. I said it wasn't supposed to because of my membership but apparently, I had exhausted that visit. At this point, I said I wanted to cancel my membership. Having 5 years of warranty isn't a useful benefit when the only suggestions are that it must be something else causing a problem. I thought this would be the end of it but continued to receive membership charges. I blocked their ability to charge my card. They continued to charge these fees. I've explained what happened multiple times. Everyone I have spoken with or met has been incredibly polite. But I really regret using this company. I'm not sure if it's poor internal organization or just people not taking the time to listen but I'm paying for several mistakes on the part of 3Gen. If you're in the market, I'd keep looking for a more reliable service provider! read more
