When the dentist allowed her to help put a cap on my uncovered tooth that had been just received a root canal, she already knew WITHOUT the cap the tooth was very sensitive to pain because the dentist already tested it after I came to the appointment just to see the sensitivity. When She proceeded to go into my mouth I'm wondering what she doing (he already tested it, and she knows it's painful . So, (without the cap to put on my tooth) she used the drill and said "I want you to see something " she took the drill and hit my naked tooth with that instrument the dentist did and then said "(you can get somebody else if you want)." She hit that uncovered tooth with the drill so fast I almost jumped out the seat it hurt so bad. I read in these reviews where the Doctor or hygienist used anesthetic on someone's gums while scaling back their teeth? I was not ever offered pain relief for scaling. I was told "all the patients took the pressure and pain!". They tried to do my scaling by digging with a sharp instrument in my gums until I screamed in pain. The hygienist thought it was a joke because I was so upset . They did not numb me nor warn me about the pain of having to go into my gums with a sharp instrument. I believe I was assaulted with dental instruments and then made a joke of . I am afraid to go back there after those experiences to tell them my dentures (they made) hurt so bad and look so bad I can't wear them almost not at all. Food gets stuck in the tooth that had the root canal because it's indented and not smooth. They kept trying to get $100.00 out of me at this dentist office. Kept saying you owe us $100.00 but never told me why. I never understood anyway because My dental care was totally insured . So, they finally backed off asking me. But, I believe I was being billed for something I didn't get. When they figured they couldn't just take my money without explanations they just said forget about it. When has a business ever said forget about $100.00?

That is until I found Dr. Monsman and his staff. They never made me feel bad about my anxiety, they have always been very patient and understanding. They explain to me what is going to happen before they do it. Which helps tremendously with my anxiety. Dr. Monsman is an amazing dentist. I am extremely upset with the front office staff at River Run Dental at Colonial Heights. They are…read morerude, and lack accountability and responsibility. On multiple occasions they have incorrectly submitted claims to my insurance company causing the insurance company to not pay. Sometimes submitting my procedure to an old outdated insurance, sometimes submitting my claim attached to a doctor that is not covered in my network. (a doctor that I didn't even see) Each time the front office has been rude and dismissive, gaslighting me too feel as though I made a mistake and am late on payments. After I have spent my own free time to follow up on why the insurance did not cover the procedure, it has always been because the dental office has been careless while submitting the claim. When I call back to the dental office with this new information all I get is more attitude and told they will look into it and will call me back, but they never actually do either. The dental hygienist, and dentists have all been pleasant and professional, but unfortunately the front office is a mess. Because you can not separate one from the other, I highly suggest going elsewhere.

I'm so tired of this place literally playing in my face. Reception is always nice and professional…read morebut the dental assistants need more training. It feels like it's their first day everytime. One particular visit the water attachment wasn't working properly so she used the dental tools from my try to fix it because they couldn't find pliers. She then attempted to use them on me but I quickly stopped her and reminded her what she just used them for! Dr. Varkey has become rough and rude if you question him at all. His work has actually worsened the condition of my teeth and mental health. At one visit he was resting his body weight on my face, I stayed quiet but eventually started to tear up. He become super frustrated saying " you're always here and when you come you're a problem! " The tears really began to flow as he partially finished the work. I'm so thankful to the lead assistant for hugging me up and trying to make it better. Unfortunately I still have to see him again to finish up work (uncapped tooth left open for 3 months) and hopefully not leave out with ANOTHER ROOT CANAL. Those are given out more than the toys in the treasure box. I'm down to 19 teeth since United Smiles and requested dental partials now that I can't chew many solid foods. That was a year and a half ago and the response everytime is I'll look into it. Wish me luck on the upcoming appointment, hopefully they'll be playing Brain Adams and not that "Mexican Music" to uplift his spirits. HIS WORDS NOT MINE.

I already had a serious setback to my relocation efforts before the tooth broke. So while stopped in VA I found Colonial Heights and they had a early morning availability to "glue" my tooth & "fix" it. After paying $400 for the visit, x-rays, & extra supplies to attached the facia...the tooth then broke again within 36 hrs. UGH. So I scheduled my appointment for April 18, 2019 @ 2 pm. The day of the appointment, I showed up 15 mins. early, only to see a sign on the door, saying they were at lunch from 1-2 pm. After giving my name, I was told my appointment had been cancelled due to the one hygienist that they had, not being able to come in. I then asked why I was not contacted, and Amanda responded that "They" reached out to me first thing that morning. After asking the number of the office, I showed her I did not have any missed calls, voice mails or texts from that number. Crickets!!! At this point, clearly Amanda was telling a lie, and tried to shift the blame back to me. I stated that I had waited almost 4 months for this appointment, and I also had to miss time from work. I am told that Dana could be reached at the Hopewell location, After several failed attempts at reaching Dana, even after leaving my name and number, I knew this business was not only shady, but the employees had no integrity at all, or concern for their patients!!! Most times it was hard to get her to even go back to the dentist because she just didn't want to be in that pain. She understood there would be some pain but not to the extent she was in. She would say I think they drilled or did something too hard. The pieces of the braces often fell off in her mouth. She was careful about what she ate like gum, candy and other foods that could damage the braces but these things still occured. My older child had gotten braces from a place in Lynchburg, VA and never had any of the problems with their braces that my other child ended up having. It's up to you where you go but just do your research and make sure this is the right place for you because even with good customer service we sometimes overlook the real service we should be getting.
