I was referred to Dr Hirai for gallstones. Turned out to be a very complicated and rare condition and required not only a complex surgery but several hospitalizations and multiple follow-up endoscopies. Dr Hirai was incredibly attentive and responsive to my needs, checked on me sometimes twice a day throughout my two hospital stays, coordinated my care with two GI specialists, hospitalists and all team members, called me at home to respond to concerns I had. I can't overstate how wonderful he is, both as a surgeon and as a caring, kind and careful human being. I feel so lucky and blessed to have had him taking care of me and I can't recommend him highly enough! I will say, for those who had frustrations with the office(as I did initially), he is in hospital most of the time and has limited office hours. Front office ladies do scheduling for a number of different docs who work out of that office. Sometimes hard to get through, best to deal directly with his assistant Tania if possible. read more

This review is for the main office & billing office and not Dr. Hirai. Based on my experience, I would never come back. Like other negative reviews, I was here 3 times and each time I had to wait at least 1 hour to see him for 10 mins. One time I almost missed my daughter's school pickup. They have no respect for the patient's time. Secondly, I told them my Out of pocket already reached maximum, they still demanded $10 copay, saying I could call their billing office to get a refund. I called them ~20 times in the span of 4 months, each time they admitted I have a credit of $10 and they would contact the main office to get it back. But until now, I still haven't gotten the refund. And this is only $10. Imagine if it's $1k or $2k. It's totally a fraud! read more

The experience with this office and this doctor only created stress at a time when I needed to feel like I was in competent hands. While it seems the people are well meaning, the extreme disorganization, lack of responsiveness even right before surgery and very little thoughtful interaction with patients, has me writing my first bad review of a medical team. I was referred to this doctor by my primary care physician and I updated them not to refer here any more. My surgery was avoidable and the extreme stress of mislabeled procedures at the hospital, not returning a couple week's worth of messages and no privacy or tact in a follow up appointment that was essentially to let me know all was ok - all of it is shameful and I hope others can avoid. read more

This review is regarding the MD and his office. They have no value for the patient and their families time. My parents appointment was scheduled for 1000 but wasn't seen till 90 minutes later. To only have a 15 minute consultation for his surgical recommendations. He was so far behind that his waiting room had patients standing because no chairs were available. Others waiting to be seen were in the hall using the bench seats. Overall, MD seems knowledgeable but has a poor handle of prioritizing or time management because this was a ridiculous experience. read more

The rating is for the front staff not the doctor. I came in as a new patient and had already provided my insurance details. They waited till I landed in office and had filled new patient forms to inform me that although they are in network still the insurance company denies their billing. Absolutely vague. Either you are in network or not,how can you be in network and still be denied payments. I thought that since I have already taken time off from work let me have someone from insurance iron the issues out. I called them and the lady at front office spoke for a good 40 min and said the exact same thing she said before the call. I myself spoke to the insurance lady who made complete sense but somehow the message couldnt sink in the head of front staff. If they have any doubts with the insurance company why dont they get off the in-network list and save prospective patients time and hassle. Also the appointment was booked 2-3 weeks in advance and they didnt find time to express their concerns the entire duration. there was another angry patient complaining he had to drive 45 min post surgery to drop some documents which could have been easily collected by the doctors office. Dr. Hirai is an amazing doctor. He cares about me. I have seen many doctors throughout my life and often times I feel like they are trying to push a surgery or treatment on me so they can benefit financially. In contrast, Dr. Hirai has taken a very holistic and mindful approach with my care. He performed my bariatric surgery four years ago, and I have had no complications. This is the 2nd time I went through a Lumpectomy with Dr. Hirai. 5 years ago and this year. I hate to have a surgery but if I have to have one I will always come back to Dr. Hirai. He is not just a great doctor but such a nice person. He is a very caring doctor who takes time to listen ti ne and answer all my questions and concerns. I got a small cut in my lower leg last month and I asked Karina if Dr Hirai can stitch it up for me. Karina was very accomodating and kind to get me in. Both of them made me feel comfortable during the visit. I don't work for Dr. Hirai but he is a very cheeful and very friendly doctor. It always amazes me whenever I hear him talk in spanish with his spanish speaking patients. Karina is always sweet and polite with the patients. She's flexible, multitasker and dedicated to her job. I am now 2 and a 1/2 yeas out and am doing great. In the last year I have gained 16 lbs but it is in muscle weight. I am glad I made the decision to have wight loss surgery. My son went to the ER for severe abdominal pain last week. After a CT was done, he was diagnosed with appendicitis. Dr Hirai removed his appendix that next morning. He was nice enough to go over everything with me before and after the surgery. Thankfully everything went smoothly and my son is doing great now. I've been calling the office alllllllllll weeekk, every hour to schedule a follow up and NONE OF THOSE DUMBASS staffs can assist you! Nobody got the right to handle the follow up appointments? THEN FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN!!been a fukn week and Same answer , "I'm not allowed to handle the follow-up appointments" oorrrr nobody answers!! How the fuck do you expect people to schedule a follow up when the number given isn't helping or the staff??? Excuse my lingo. I wish I was able to have more experiences with Dr Hirai, however his medical assistants are unpleasant and act like road blocks. Frankly, I question the stuffs ethics and conpassion for his patients. One told me to find a new surgeon instead of answering my questions and having the doctor call me back.
