Hooker has been a Connecticut beer staple for over 10 years and was one of the first breweries in the area in Bloomfield. Just after Christmas, we went to their new Hartford location, at the Colt building, that just opened this summer. It's a perfect spot downtown that still has plenty of parking. As for beers, I was most excited to try the Chocolate Truffle Stout. It's made with Munson's Chocolate (YUM!), and it absolutely lived up to expectation - definitely the best chocolate beer I've ever had. We liked the #nofilter IPA so much so that some came home with us, too! read more

I have been frequenting breweries all over Connecticut. I would have to say this is by far the best one if you are looking for a traditional brew pub. They are one of the many breweries that do not rely on food trucks for their fare. They have a full kitchen. The pretzel bites are by far the best thing on the menu. The brewery itself is in the old colt building in Hartford. Right off the highway in the building with the big blue ball on top. It's large enough and often busy so get there early so you can get a seat and get a nice game or something to play. I would say this is more of an adult only brewery as there isn't much other to do than drink. The seats are packed in and all around the outside. We went in the winter so I'm not sure about the patio situation. If you are into old factory architecture this is the place to be. I've always wanted a place with exposed brick so I often get jealous when I see ale factory style housing, but I digress. Go here, drink beer and have fun. Have an Ode to Blumpy... When you have had one or two here, head down the road to Hanging Hills. Make sure you have a driver. read more

One word: incredible. This is a must stop in Connecticut. Along with the delicious beer, I had their Cuban sliders which were a little pricey ($12) for two small sliders but that can often be expected at small craft breweries. The flavor was amazing! Really nice open and modern space, market lights strewn across the patio, and gorgeous views of the city. Ever since Hooker put out #NoFilter, they've reestablished themselves as one of the top breweries in New England with some really incredible beers. Their new location is really impressive. Offering not only their own great beers but a full bar of wine and liquor, a food menu, and attractive events such as craft beer comedy night. We attended the first comedy night last night and were thoroughly impressed. The comics were hilarious, the beer was amazing and affordable and the night was just awesome! read more

We came here on a Monday afternoon, which is a strange time to go to a brewery but hey, it was vacation! They said on the website that there were board games, cocktails, wine, etc so it sounded like an upgrade from the standard brewery! Unfortunately, it didn't really deliver. The bartender seemed annoyed that we were there, and we discovered that there were only a handful of games. (We still played operation, even though it was missing half the pieces.) We did a flight of four beers but we didn't really enjoy any of them so we decided not to stay for a drink. On the bright side, they have a lot of outdoor seating! I'm guessing we just caught the bartender on an off day, but it was kind of a bummer. read more

Great venue! Attended for a business hosted event. The back room is set up for conferences with tables, a projector, a screen and speakers. The food provided was good (not sure if that was catered or provided by the brewery). The beer is great! After tasting a few I settled on a Watermelon Ale and my husband was drinking the Unfiltered. They have a nice sitting area and the main bar area has nice table, chairs, and large open windows. We'll be back as it's pretty close to where I work. read more

I was never a huge Hooker Craft Beer fan until they came out w the no filter and double no filter IPA. Then they did it again w the Od De Blumpy. AMAZING. ITS ONE OF MY TOP 5 favorite beers. Stopped here on a Saturday afternoon doing a mini brewery hop. Bar was packed with people yet the service was amazing. The bar staff is great at seeing a empty glass and ensuring you are helped. Food- there was a selection of options that looked great but I didn't have anything so I cannot provide feedback taste or quality. Beer- there is something for everyone here. If you cannot find a beer that suits your tastes I'd be shocked. read more

Fantastic new taproom in downtown Hartford at the historic Colt complex serving Hooker's excellent variety of craft beers. Highly recommend the #NoFilter IPA. This place is amazing. It has quickly become my favorite place to come to in Hartford. The beer is great and offers a wide variety of tastes that you're guaranteed to find something you'll like. And as good as the beer is, the food is even better. Definitely try the grilled cheese flight - which I've included a picture of. And as an added bonus - there's a nice outdoor patio and it's dog friendly! I also hear that they will soon be doing tailgate block parties for the Athletic soon once the stadium is ready. Totally different vibe than the Bloomfield Hooker Brewery, but still a nice place to have a beer and spend the afternoon. We came here once in the warmer months, and enjoyed being able to sit outside and take in the view of the Colt Building (my favorite building in Hartford) and bits of downtown. Great outdoor seating options and easy parking in the lot. The offering of food is a nice addition as well and as others noted, it's nice to get a flight or pint and enjoy time with friends. read more

I work nearby and this is a fantastic after-work spot to grab a drink with coworkers! A nice sized patio and decently sized seating area inside, I've never had trouble finding a spot. Beer selection is pretty good, they even have wine and some spirits. They offer a small menu with atypical dishes (I recommend the grilled cheese flight!), I do wish there was a more basic option like nachos for an easy sharable with friends. The bartenders are by far the best I've ever come to know at any brewery. When I can talk to one bartender about sports, her crazy hair color choices, Harry Potter and tattoos all in one sitting, I found a good spot! read more

I've heard wonderful things about this location and finally got the chance to experience it myself! I came here at about 9:00 on a Tuesday night, and while it closes at 10:00 p.m., we were served all the way up until 10:00, and there were actually a bunch of people that stayed until about 10:30 p.m., It was actually quite busy when we arrived with many people playing board games, and some like my friend and I - watching the Olympics on the two televisions that are above the bar. There are a bunch of taps lined up (as well as an impressive collection of whiskeys and bourbons I might add). We came to fill a growler, but also each had a couple pints of Ode to Blumpy - I really hope this changes from being a limited release to a permanent beer, because it is absolutely fantastic! I would love to come back and spend some more time here, as well as try some of the small bites that they offer - they sounded delicious! All in all - this seemed like an awesome spot to hang out and have a few beers! read more

Wonderful concept!! It is an experimental taste testing brewery that have growlers to go and are very open to taste testing before committing! Beautiful finishing on the interior and amazing patio for summer and fall. Chris has been our bartender of choice, extremely knowledgeable and most friendly. Live music adds to the atmosphere. I wasn't sure what I 'd think of the new space, but it was lovely. We all enjoyed flights and all of the beers were good, especially the chocolate truffle stout. Service wasn't exactly friendly, but not bad. We would have stayed longer, but there was a lack of a vegan option on the munchie menu, and we were getting hungry! Horrible. The beer is good but that is literally all that is good there. I never give a bad review unless I have had several bad experiences in a row at a place. Hooker takes the cake on horrible service and worse food. I have been a regular there for years with no complaints but my last 3 visits have been inexcusable. First, my burger was actually a hockey puck, but served in a reasonable amount of time. 2nd time, wings burnt so badly they were nothing but bone. Today I waited 50 minutes for a burger. There were a total of 12 people in the place And most already had their food. After telling the bartender I could not wait any longer, he said that they were boxing it up. Then he told me that they made the wrong thing, a cheeseburger. I am allergic to cheese. Bartender was great but shouldn't have to apologize for incompetence that he had nothing to do with. After many years as a loyal customer, I am done with Hooker. Back East from now on. read more

Went in Saturday night, 9/14/19, before Hartford Athletics game and was very disappointed in staffing levels and service. Beer was tasty and small offering of food was good but there were not enough people working to handle the size of the crowd. There was only one food runner that we saw for the whole patio and inside tables. We had to ask her (she did) to put our food order in because line to bar was so long. Bartenders were overwhelmed and not the fastest movers for what should have been prime time. The owners/management can and should do better. A lot of money lost because limited staff could not serve the volume of people fast enough. Most patrons probably would have consumed (spent $$) more but no service and long lines. read more

Went yesterday with a group of friends for my birthday. Not knowing we couldn't bring outside food (honest mistake) I was approached and told we had to put it away, which we did. Afterwards the bartenders were extremely rude and ignored myself & my friends. He went to other people before serving us, and laughed to himself numerous times while we were trying to get drinks. I've never experienced being treated that way in a brewery before. Never will I or my friends ever go back to this place, which is a shame because I had been numerous times before this. read more

I had an event there this past weekend in the private room. I cannot say enough about having an event there, it surpassed all my expectations. My guests were blown away by the entire event, from the beautiful presentation of the room and the food, to the professionalism of the staff. It was perfect. My guests couldn't stop raving about the food: the hot pretzel knots with dips, the charcuterie boards with their great selection of cheeses, the mac and cheese and pulled pork were all made fresh by Josh, a wonderful chef. His menu is Not bar food, but fresh and well prepared food. Traci, the event coordinator, was instrumental in orchestrating my event. She did an amazing job, and was very patient with all my questions. I would also like to complement Linda our room attendant who was pleasant and in perpetual motion. And finally I would like to thank the bartenders who kept things running smoothly. All in all I wouldn't hesitate to have another event here or just go for a beer and a bite to eat. read more

Reading all the reviews, I had high hopes for this brewery. Unfortunately my experience was not as pleasant. For one, their brew list is somewhat limited, and to make the matters worse, if your not a fan of IPAs, then your pretty much out of luck. The beer was really good, enjoyed the blonde, and the service was good too! Our waitress was really knowledgeable about the beers and was patient and kind explaining what all that beer speak meant to some one who had no idea. The food though... we were at a larger gathering and ate buffet style of pulled pork, sausage, and Mac and cheese. Didn't taste right to me and I didn't have much; unfortunately hubby finished his plate. He had to find a bathroom quick on the way home. Just go for drinks or avoid the cheese!
