We stopped by for a quick bite to eat at about 5 p.m. tonight, not realizing that their regular menu was not available. It was a UConn game tonight and they only served a limited menu, so we just had their $10 smash burgers which were satisfying if not hot off the grill (I think they were fresh enough just not made to order). The staff also seemed distracted probably getting ready for the big influx of people which sure enough arrived at about 5:30 and suddenly there were no more free seats. It was too loud to enjoy our conversation anyway so we vacated to make room for the newcomers. If it were a regular night I think I would've appreciated the multistory layout and a more relaxed meal but that's ok. It was a last minute decision to go there when our restaurant of choice was booked for the evening (not usually a place that requires reservations but again affected by the local sports event). read more

Cam provided wonderful service at the bar! Their fall cocktail was delicious and their beers, fantastic! I had the Oktoberfest and took a 4 pack of the mixed berry sour to-go. Urban Lodge Brewing has two locations, this one is in Hartford, CT. The Manchester location opened in 2019. My family and I were in the area and decided to stop in for lunch. This place was pretty big and with a second floor. When you first walk in, there is a sign stating to seat yourself and order via a QR code; each table had one and it can be scanned with a smartphone. The place was pretty busy and I asked an employee if they had an elevator or ramp, since we had a baby carriage, they said they didn't know since they're new. Luckily we snagged an open table on the first floor but it was dirty, we had to clean it ourselves. Their menu was not too vast but it had some good options. We ordered onion rings and the cheeseburger smash burgers. The food was delivered to our tables and it was actually pretty good! My husband got up to the bar to order some drinks for us. I love sours so I tried out their Husky Berry Buzz, which is a fruited sour with hints of cranberries and wildflower honey; I thought it was okay, a little too sour for my liking and I love sours lol. Then I had one of their holiday specials, a green Grinch drink with glitter and red sugar rim, that was a pretty drink and tasty. We visited for a quick pre-theater dinner on a weeknight. We really enjoyed the ambiance of the fireplace and the casual atmosphere. I had the pink guava sour beer and the Buffalo chicken empanadas. I was pleased with both. My companion had the salad that comes with a cheeseburger under it and a mixed drink. We ordered our drinks at the bar and our meals via QR code from our table. Hm. This spot is great for a drink, but I'm not sure I'd be back to dine in. Me and a friend decided to check them out for food on a Saturday which might've been the root of the problem, honestly. We sat upstairs which is beautiful, but I think the way they run service is a bit strange. We almost ordered at our table but realized you have to order drinks at the bar since they're not available on the QR code menu. Going downstairs to the bar for your drink was confirmed by the equally annoyed tables next to us. I'm not sure if there's a sign somewhere but we definitely missed it. Paul is an amazing bartender. I asked him to surprise me and he made me a blood orange cosmo with a little extra sweetness, it was fantastic. Once we were back upstairs, we placed our order for food and got to chatting. Both my appetizer and main dish came out at the same time but we noticed a delay in my friends food. Since part of her order included a takeout order, we assumed maybe they packed the whole thing up and put it at the bar. She went downstairs and asked the bartender, but the bartender told her the kitchen was backed up and her food should be coming out soon. Since their ordering system sends a text when your food is on the way to your table, we were going off that. We ended up waiting almost 40 minutes and found out that her food was at the bar the entire time. Thankfully she was refunded but considering we only get to meet once a month, this was a big let down for both of us. I think the service could just be way more attentive. I got the turkey burger with fries, and the bacon, spinach, artichoke dip. Both were good and large portions for the price. The dip was easily favorite of the two. I liked the amount of cheese but the bacon was a bit much, which isn't something I'd ever thought I'd say! I've briefly visited Urban Lodge in Manchester, just to pick up some beers to give as a gift. This was my first visit to their location (great location, btw) on Pratt Street in Hartford. First thoughts, nice space! There's three levels-the entrance level with a couple of tables and an auxiliary bar (not being used around noon on a Saturday), the second level with the big bar, lots of bar tables, and I did not visit floor 3. I liked that there were some tv screens in the main area. One was playing The Office (would've loved the captions to have been on), one was playing a crystal clear view of the guys in their brewery canning up beers, another was playing a sports-ball-game-match. I was sort of surprised that it's the kind of place where you order your food at the bar (or by using your phone). Not a big deal. I already knew I would be ordering the Paddy Melt (not my spelling, theirs) long before I arrived. I'm always smitten when a burger has 1,000 island dressing and swiss on sourdough (and the crispy onions just made it even better). Excellent burger!! My only complaint is it came uncut. My wife also had the same burger and loved it. We ordered a pretzel with beer cheese and mustard to start but unfortunately, everything hit the table at once. I liked the pretzel and the dipping sauces though I felt the beer cheese could've been a little punchier in terms of beer flavor. Then again, I'm a punchy beer drinker and love an IPA that is quite bitter. I had a pint of the Double Black Diamond (really delicious) and my wife had a pint of the Open Trail. I chose a 4-flight, and selected a Mixed Berry sour, Open Trail NE pale ale, Maui, and Fireside stout. All were tasty, with the Open Trail being my favorite. Loud, happening brewery in downtown Hartford. Came late afternoon Saturday during March Madness and it was packed. Seating is first come, first served. Luckily a couple was leaving the bar area and we got to sit there. Beers were too bad and food was tasty. We enjoyed onion rings and fries, Philly steak sandwich, Buffalo chicken empanadas and a special sandwich on the menu. Beer and food is paid separately unless you're at the bar. First time at Urban Lodge before attending a show at The Bushnell. It was a rainy evening but it didn't stop us from grabbing a bite and checking the place out. Ugh.... when will the QR code ordering end?! TBH, if we knew that's how this place took care of the customers, we wouldn't have stopped here for dinner. Kirstin, Joe, hubs and I had dinner here before a Wolfpack game and the place was pretty busy when we got there. We were able to get a table downstairs but quickly noticed that no one acknowledges you until bringing your order. There is serve yourself water that hubby found while heading to the bathroom. They were out of brisket but that was unclear in the online ordering system and we had to go to the bar to get the answer (again, no waitstaff). So after finding that out, we ordered nachos to start-- very large portion but was not a fan of the flavor of their chili. We also had the special KC Chiefs burger and the Marcus Camby-- this was the fave, triple patty and very filling. The burgers do not come with a side so you'll have to order fries and onion rings separately, which we did. The price on the sides seems like a bit much so maybe not worth it When you place your order via QR code, it asks for a tip. As we try to give cash, we held off but once we saw how little service you actually get, it was even more off-putting. Hartford has too many other great places, so we won't be returning. read more

So happy to have an Urban Lodge location closer to home! Pratt Street is really coming up and we couldn't be more excited! And the executive chef is Corey Wry of Corey's Catsup and Mustard!? One of our old Manchester staples! This spot is HUGE with multiple levels and tons of tables and space. We came with a large party of 10+ and were able to snag a back room with a few tables upstairs. They have multiple bars with their brews and a full cocktail menu. We of course had to try a burger and it didn't disappoint! New brewery with food downtown. It's nice to see more and more places on Pratt st. downtown. The space itself is gorgeous. Warm environment that's really well decorated with a slightly industrial feel. If you've been to their other location, it's a similar vibe. They have two levels with a bar on both, however they have a more limited selection of drinks on the second floor. I got the raspberry sour which I enjoyed. Not too sweet or too sour. Very refreshing. They have mostly IPAs but they also have ciders, cocktails and wine. You can get drinks in 9oz. Or 16 oz. You can only order beer at the bars. They don't have waiters that come around. What's odd is that you can only order food off the QR code. So you will always have to order separately for drinks and food which is kind of weird. I got the blackened chicken sandwich ($13) and fries ($6.5). You have to order fries separately. Prices are a little higher than normal, especially since the size and quality was just ok. The chicken ate very dry and it says it comes with avocado but I didn't taste any. read more

The absolute worst! We eat out 2-3 times per week. Been doing this for 20+ years. We had a 6:00 reservation at Urban. We waited for over 15 minutes at the hostess stand until someone asked to help us. There was a long line out the door for people to check in. Once seated, we ordered food (just appetizers) and drinks. Waited forever for drinks. After about waiting 45 minute for our apps, I finally asked when they'd be out. I was told they were both coming out (one of the apps was nachos). Another 20 minutes passes and I ask again and the waitress disappears into the kitchen and returns 10 minutes later only to say that she can only get us the nachos and it would be another 15 minutes. There was food coming out of the kitchen non-stop so maybe our order was never submitted. We canceled the food order and left. I know they were short staffed but witnessed several people sit at tables for over 15 minutes and get up and leave because no one had even stopped by to take their order. I don't know what the owner is supposed to do if they can't handle the amount of people coming in (maybe close a section of the restaurant and cancel reservations)??? Busy night, we barely found 2 seats at the small bar on the first floor (that it was closed)but those were the only seats available. You have to order the food by scanning the QR code. Different levels with different seating options but not that much availability so arrive early especially during the weekend if you want a comfortable spot. Drinks: You do have to go at the bar and order the drinks.My husband had 2 beers which he enjoyed very much and I wanted to try a cocktail. I didn't like my drink and I went to politely ask for something different which they did but didn't garnish according to the menu so I can't recommend it to you. All I can tell you is that it was an espresso martini but I wished they told me the name. Food: Burger for the hubby. Didn't came with the fries and I thought that was a little bit odd. My fish and chips were okay. Plenty of fries on mine so I didn't mind sharing. The paper underneath the food got soggy right away as soon as I squeezed the lemon so maybe they could use a different kind going forward. Definitely extra points for the water station, just wished the location was different not next to the bathroom. Bathrooms were nice and clean, always appreciated when they have the extra hook on the door for your purse and a flat surface for your phone. I would like to start out saying that my 1 star rating is too much. I really can't comment on the food as we had no service which resulted in no food or drink. I made a reservation a week ago at the recommendation of a friend for for my anniversary. Unfortunately, this was a mistake. Upon arrival we were seated by the hostess in the bar at a small two top table even though we had a reservation. We sat at the table and patiently waited for 20 minutes before we saw any service staff. The hostess preceeded to walk another couple over to the four top table right next to us. Five minutes after the couple that just sat we see a waitress heading our way, however, instead of taking our drink order she proceeds to take the order of the couple that just sat down. We explain to the waitress that we had been waiting. She said oh. We then proceeded to get up an walk out. We stop to notify the hostess that we are leaving. She does not ask why, is there a problem, what happen, etc. She had no reaction. We then call the manager to explain the situation. We explained we were on our anniversary and we had driven from Massachusetts to try this restuarant for the first time. He says well we had to move people from the outside, inside due to rain. We say what does this have to do with us and getting service at our table. He says well I hope you give us another chance. I am in the food service business. This service was very unprofessional which is why we tried to do them a favor to improve and correct the situation. Instead the manager did nothing. They ruined this special occassion. Needless to say this place has lost a customer for life. read more

A welcome addition to downtown Hartford, Urban Lodge brewing is the newest in a line of breweries that have been springing up in CT over the past 5 years. The difference with this one is the size and the vibe, and it seems that they have gotten it right. Urban lodge originated in Manchester, CT and has been a hit not only among the locals, but with out of towners as well. It's no wonder why the brewery would feel the need to expand. The spot has an open window (which allows you to order drinks from the street), 3 floors, beautifully detailed rooms, and 3 bars including a full cocktail bar upstairs. The food at first glance has the regular bar food flare with hartford centric names (is the hellion burger a reference to the hartford hell cats team of the 90s?, also the Marcus camby burger was ), but when I started to chow down I was in heaven. Every bite better than the last and made me want to order everything on the menu. Until I got to the tacos. I admittedly wasn't a fan, but also it was the first weekend so I will go back and try them again to see if they can change my mind. The beer itself is nothing different that I had noticed from the Manchester spot but I could be wrong (please correct me if im wrong!) This brewery expands the palate by including a full bar, and canned cocktails. The beer is great and while the bar on the bottom floor closest to the door has a limited selection, if you take 6 steps to the right you will be at the main beer bar that has a full draft selection. Not a huge deal to me All staff were very attentive and knowledgeable regarding beer recommendations and in particular I would like to point out Paul, Laura, and general manager Kelsi, who might have been the friendliest people I've ever met in the brewery setting. Opening weekend!!! I came here on day 2 of opening and was pretty impressed. Although to be expected, few minor hiccups which I'm sure will be smoothed out as time goes but let's talk about positives. Food options were great! Everything I ordered was delicious. I got the chicken and elote dip (amazing!), and the Lola dog which had carmelized onions, saukraut and a Dijon mustard... now I'm not huge on hot dogs but this was it! Beer was great as well. Place has a nice ambiance, probably good vibes for the crowd it's trying to attract. Contemporary. We had two beers, an Irish Red Ale which had a nice balance of malt but a little sweet for me, and the second was New England IPA with citra hops. Not overly hopped but the citra certainly gave it a bright upfront flavor. Most of the other beers by their description might be overly hopped for me. I don't want a beer smashing me over the head with hops . We ordered food which is what knocked it down to 3 stars. The beer was very good and served in appropriate glassware. You order food off a QR code and the restaurant uses Four Square to do the ordering. I have many issues with this. One it creates an impersonal remote atmosphere . While the menu was easy to navigate (mostly because of the limited menu) it had issues . For orders like a quesadilla (tacos etc) it asks you for a choice of protein (one of which is vegetarian) and easy opt out selection for the other ingredients. I wanted a quesadilla with no meat (I like mine like the original Mexican style with cheese and chilis thank you ). But there was no way to order the item with making a protein selection. I wasn't looking to save money I just didn't want meat today. Also no servers or wait staff to ask. Bartenders are separate from the food operation and cannot assist. So I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich . My wife had a beef short rib taco. The taco was quite good . The chicken sandwich was dry from overcooked chicken breast and perhaps not enough of whatever the sauce was. A sub par sandwich. My three stars comes from the inane food ordering system. Online ordering systems have a place in takeout and perhaps fast food restaurants (in that case if you modify the standard item, it has a half way chance of getting done correctly ) but in a more upscale establishment it sends me a bad vibe and in my case I could not order what I wanted. Food prices were reasonable. The beer was very good. But the food was not good enough to keep me coming back and I can get excellent beers at multiple brew pubs some with better food or food trucks . If I was still working I would hang here with buddies after work for a couple of beers. Perhaps the younger set might be so used to online ordering they won't have issues with the dumb food ordering system. I wish them success and am always rooting for downtown establishments. read more

A group of friends and I went on a Thursday after work and had an amazing time! The place itself was spacious, clean, and well organized. We stayed on the first floor and all ordered delicious beers and ciders. I had their mixed berry sour and it was so good! Ordering was easy. We scanned the QR code and our food was quickly brought out to us! It definitely gets busy, but worth trying out if you can. No, I don't mean they actually do anything I'm particular to cater to families or children, but there will be lots of kids there, so if you're looking to enjoy a beer with friends after a stressful day be prepared to also have your food coughed on by the two year old next to you or to have a rouge 6 year old run up to your table and interrupt your dinner (both of these things have happened in the two times I've been to this place), but that's not why I'm giving it two stars, I'm giving it two stars for the service, the quality of the food, the aggressive tablet tipping, and the watered down drinks in the upstairs bar. read more
