A nice salon and I got a great haircut. Liked that I was able to get a consultation from a color consultant before going in. I selected the color, but it came out too dark. Came back two days later and showed a picture of what I wanted. Stylist indicated that I could achieve that look with highlights. The photo I showed had warm brown hairlights. After applying the highlights and rinsing out my hair, my hair now had yellow streaks instead of the color I wanted. Told the stylist I didn't like it and again showed her the picture. She put a bronzing toner on it (which contained some brown and dark red). Then I finally got what I wanted. I would go back to this salon for hair care. But I would probably pick another person next time to do color -- someone who knows how to mix the dyes correctly to achieve the look I want. read more

This was my first visit and I made an appointment for highlights. They hooked me up with Meredyth and she was wonderful. She took her time to find out exactly what I wanted and she delivered. I have been to Thomas Scott 3 times now and each time has been mediocre. The first, I went for a facial. I cannot remember who did it but she was very friendly and I felt I got a good facial and she recommended great products. But, there was nothing that set this service apart from a facial anywhere else. The second time, I got my roots touched up(I am a regular client of the Paul Mitchell school and their books were full) and was not too impressed. I wanted to keep up with my bright, bold almost white blonde and my roots came out very mousey and my hair appeared darker. Again, the person conducting the service was very friendly. Lastly, because I had a coupon - I went for a pedicure. The pedicure(the one I got at least) is originally $43 with my coupon it was $39. I was NOT impressed with what they consider a spa/or sport pedicure. I didn't even have my toenails cleaned out or a small hangnail clipped out. I'm not very picky when it comes to pedicures, I like a good massage and a good clean nail after. 2 days later and my hangnail is worse, and the polish is chipping. I gave 3 stars because I have always been treated in a courteous and friendly manner, I just think the prices are a bit high for the skill set they offer. I will keep going to the PM School and other salons around Frederick for my services. read more

I was there yesterday - the appointment was for 11:00 and I was told to wait - I waited for 15 minutes and I had to be asked to be helped, like no one saw me sitting there. While I was waiting I saw a roach just ambling around in the middle of the front lobby - I had to ask someone to take it away - not before I took some pictures though. The facial therapist and the massage therapist are outstanding but the spa itself is over priced with hygiene issues and the front lobby staff are impolite rude, condescending and extremely not customer service oriented. Go to Massage Envy - better process and better service. read more

It's nice to see everyone else experience was better than mine. As a gift I got my hair and nails done. Did my nails first, beautiful....now comes time to put on my smock. Couldn't do that before nails?? Now you want me to be careful, well we weren't, nails were messed up , no refund, no fix. That was the best part....now the hair. I asked for a modern, layered , sassy cut. With blonde or brown streaks, my hair is dirty blonde. Nope....not getting that. I got a one dimension, old.lady Bob, it was awful, no color, no layers, no style. And if every customer isn't important, don't book us to take our $224.00. I got my colouring solution on, for a supposed 25 minutes, i apparently didn't hear the hour in front of the 25 minutes. You decided to take my hair stylist, who clearly wasn't focused in me, to give her to one of your "good" client-side as I was told. So she hope in my chair, phone, two screaming kids and all. Well 45 minutes later, head burning, a rash down my neck, ,my daughter and I rinsed it. Now, you wanna fit the screaming brats in, so I basically I paid $224.00, for messed up nails, green hair, with my grandmother's style, and 3 hours of being made to feel, I wasn't worth your full effort, and it showed. So again, I kindly ask you remove from your mail list. This is not a return customer. read more

GET YOUR HAIR CUT AND COLORED HERE I called to make an appointment and explained that my hair has been badly over processed and damaged and I was terrified to cut length off but I needed to - badly. They were so sweet and told me they could fit me in within the next two days and would make me an appointment with Rachael S. This woman is amazing. She is so incredibly sweet and took the time to really talk to me before and understand what I wanted. She then explained what she was going to do (cut it and dry it, if I wanted more off she would be happy to do another cut!). She took the time to explain all of the products she used on my hair and why they were important. Midway through I was talking to her about color and how I felt like I needed fresh highlights even though it had only been a month and I really did not want to damage my hair more. Instead of agreeing with me and making an appointment for pricey highlights she offered me a quick root treatment that was only twenty dollars. I asked when she could do it and she fit me in right then! So accommodating. She asked other stylists to help her out and had me taken care of even though she had another client. I really felt like a priority and my hair looks and feels absolutely beautiful. I've never had a better salon experience. Great prices, great service, great result. Could not be happier! read more

I go see Ashley every 6-8 weeks and I am never disappointed. She does a great job and I always walk away with my hair exactly how I want it. Color, cut and style. Ashley also recommended a great shampoo and conditioner that has brought life back to my hair (that I have put through red, purple, blond and black)! I know she gets bonus points for selling product, but she's never pushy about getting me to buy something. Thomas Scott is the place I go to get my hair done and I have recommended several others to who have become regulars now too! read more

THIS is an excellent salon. Nice location/decorated nicely. Prices could be considered "pricey" by some, but they are insanely reasonable for the excellent work done here (and way more reasonable than the other salon I went to in Frederick and had a craptacular experience with). I had a body polish treatment, an eyebrow wax, and an express facial with Jessica and had a great experience. Everything began with a fancy ginger ale and mango drink accompanied by a warm rose water foot soak while Jessica consulted with me about my skin. I am getting married soon so she was great about making sure we didnt do any extractions or that I was allergic to anything. The treatments were so relaxing and Jessica was professional/not too pushy with the products which I appreciated. I'll definitely be back for post-wedding relaxation! read more

No ethics/horrible experience. I applied for an Esthetician position here immediately after esthetics school. I got the job! Following that, during my training, I was checking my blood sugar regularly because I'm a DIABETIC. I went on a break, to eat lunch & upon my return both the manager & owner of the salon ~cornered~ me in a room and questioned (felt like an interrogation) about my diabetes. They asked "how many times do you have to check your sugar" "are you able to work on clients if you're checking your sugar?" "How often do you eat", etc. They called me the next day and said "This isn't going to work out.." I was too naive and young to know this is literally against the law... it was over a year before I realized that this was unjust, wrong and illegal. I would have taken legal action had I known. But now, I'll just leave it as a bad review on this salon and their management. Bad word of mouth is never good.. which is what this salon deserves. So sorry for this really negative post- but I was burned really bad & I think people should be aware of their ethics and integrity- which is STRONGLY LACKING. read more

For a "high-end" salon reputation, i found the decor to be cheesy craft/country. The color was no better than the hair school i frequent. The spa was dark and maximized on space. Relaxation room was literally size of a small closet. Manager/ Desk staff stood around and did not make guests feel welcome. Overpriced and Overrated!! read more

I've always been greeted at the door with a friendly smile. Even the girls that wash your hair are always making sure you are comfortable. I've never had my nails done so I can't comment on that but I have had numerous waxes here before also and always had professional service. My husband got me a gift card to Thomas Scott Salon because I had always wanted curly hair and my hair has always been jet straight. I went to get a perm and a girl named Meg Bell (Belle?) gave me a perm and told me not to wash my hair for 3 days. 3 days later, all of my hair fell out. I was not informed that this was a possible outcome and when I spoke to the salon manager, she said that it was too bad my hair fell out but they would not give me a refund or reload my gift card and they'd love to see me back. I told them it would be a long time before I came back because I HAD NO HAIR!! I sold the gift card on craigslist because there was a remaining balance and I never want to go back there again, not even for a manicure! read more

If you don't care what color your hair is, ask for Alex. He will do whatever he wants even if you tell him very specifically what you want/need. Then when you are unhappy with his idea of pretty, he will say you are crazy, simply for not liking his creation, and totally dismissing the fact that he disregards what his customers request. I usually get messages' at Thomas Scott and decided to try them for my hair. I had scheduled a haircut after one of my messages at 1:30 the next day and I had entered the time and day in my calendar while I was at the desk. I arrived at 1:35 and they said my appointment was at 1:15 and said the hair stylist would be out. I sat and waited for 20 minutes and left. They must have put someone in front of me. I'm all right with the mix up of the time of the appointment but not to make me aware that there was someone taking my spot or that I was going have to wait a while is just rude. read more

I was visiting our daughter, and needed a color fix, terrible experience, told the stylist I did NOT want any yellow in my hair and just to tone the color down with low lights, ended up with orange strands and yellow hair at a cost of $227.00. I had been going to Thomas Scott Salon for years and was always relatively happy with my experience. Cost isn't great but still reasonable and the location is terrible in a run down strip mall off the golden mile but still not a big deal. After having to go to a new hairdresser at least once a year due to turnover I finally had a deal breaker experience. Came in wanting to cut a large portion of my hair off to remove damage and requested a subtle balayage. Ended up with the most embarrassing and horribly executed "ombre". There was a straight line (honestly the line wasn't even straight it was far worse) of yellow fried hair on the bottom. Underneath was white with the top yellow (AFTER using toner). I as a grown woman literally cried in the chair. I was charged $200+ dollars and told I could come the following Monday to have it fixed. Left a message with the manager who offered no apologies and acted as though she didn't understand why I felt the need to inform management if I had already complained to the hairdresser!! Ended up having my hair dyed back to my natural dark color which faded after 2 weeks. I essentially paid well over $200 dollars to waste an entire saturday, severely and permanently damage hair and now have to find another salon to fix this mess. It's one thing to have a bad experience but to not get anything close to what was requested, receive incredibly poorly executed services, and deal with rude staff AND MANAGEMENT is just too much. There are too many other options in Frederick to have to put up with this. How they continue to win "best of frederick" is beyond me I'm sure there is some sort of loop hole with voting they have figured out because they are far from the best. read more

I am a 54 year-old male. My 88 year-old mother and I have been going to Thomas Scott for years. But as of late I've noticed a decline of quality in their performance. I had been using a stylist for about two years and each style cut got progressively worse, and it wasn't cheap ($36). Frederick is not New York. Then out of the blue he quit to open a shop of his own. I never got any advance notice that he was leaving. I then tried another stylist who was even more expensive ($37). She was very unfriendly and uncommunicative. My hair didn't look bad until the next day when I washed it. It was a terrible cut. I now look like one of the original Beatles; my hair just hangs there with no style or layering. Meanwhile my mother was complaining of worsening quality from her stylist, who canceled every couple of appointments because of various health problems. My birthday is next week and we had appointments for this Thursday so I would look good for the occasion. This morning we received our usual phone call reminding us of our Thursday appointment. Then this afternoon we received a call stating that my mom's stylist had hurt her hand and would be out for awhile. She never even apologized for the inconvenience this caused us. I was so frustrated that I canceled my appointment for Thursday and made an appointment with another salon. Their attitude of late has been that they can treat the customer any way they like and have a very haughty attitude. The only reason I am not giving them one star is because they used to be good. Not anymore. Their attitude sucks. Also note that you cannot put a tip on a credit/debit card. read more

Their customer service is not focused on solving the problem only defensive comments. If you go in for blond coloring and come out with brown their response is you look great! When you contact the general manager the next day after reflecting on not getting the color you had asked for there response is defensive. They do not explain how they will take care of the situation. They respond with "we did the best we could" and "I don't understand you seemed ok with it the night before". When you request that they fix it they make it clear they think you are complaining only to get something for free. There is no the-customer-is-always-right attitude or appearance of doing whatever they can to make the customer happy. When you ask to escalate to the owner you are informed that the general manager has 20+ years of experience working with the owner and she will be sure to pass it on. Bottom-line: For being a little pricier than most the customer service is worse than the Hair Cuttery! read more
