My fiancé and I booked an appointment somewhat last minute while we were in town. When we used the online system, we could not get a booking together and were thoroughly surprised when we got a phone call the day of our appointment, by the staff, who were able to fit us both in at the same time. When we got there, we agreed immediately and were taken care of fabulously by the staff. I also got an additional treatment where I got my eyebrows waxed, and my waxer was incredibly professional and very sweet. We had a wonderful conversation. The overall studio is exceptionally, relaxing and comfortable. The techs (waxers, stylists, nail techs) are excellent but after years and years of coming here I just can't get past the awful customer service at the front desk. Absolutely atrocious if we are being fully transparent. It started with having to check in on a screen. You walk in and immediately they throw an iPad in your face. Sorry, this isn't a sports stadium, you don't have tons of people coming in all at once- it's unnecessary and removes any of the cozy and swanky personalized spa vibes you'd hope for. It feels like I'm ordering at Sheetz. But- when you do get the "opportunity" to talk to the front desk staff, you'll wish you didn't. They are always on their phone- and not just passively scrolling, but having full blown conversations. I don't need to know the person at the front desk's personal drama. Not only that, but when you dare to interrupt to ask a question, they act like you've done something wrong. This isn't just a one time thing- it's EVERY time. I'll be sad to leave the services here (had one of the best haircuts of my life here recently!) but I've let this relationship go on too long. Last time I came in with a friend who had never been and she wasn't impressed and said she wouldn't come back- I don't blame her. My nail tech was great (Trinity). But oof at the front desk vibes. I walked in and saw three people behind the front desk, and let them know my name and appt time, and was brusquely directed to the tablet to check in, and told I could wait "over there" for my tech. Then one of them proceeded to open a bag of chips and munch away. The nail desk was adjacent to the receptionist desk and I could hear them whispering between phone calls. Not the peaceful experience I was hoping for. I will find somewhere else that at least attempts to be welcoming, and keeps the chips and gossip to a break room. read more

It was an okay experience here. I came in for a couples massage which was nice aside from the employees outside the doors laughing/talking loudly so you couldn't hear the music of the supposedly zen/tranquil massage room. Also, my bicep felt weird towards the end of the massage but I brushed it off. There was a welt like bruise that hurts so deep, it's hard for me to lift my arm up/carry things with this arm. It was supposed to be a relaxing massage, especially taking into consideration the price, but it left me in more pain than I was in before the session. My friends and I had a lovely experience at Verbena Salon & Spa! We all opted for facials and/or massages. Firstly, I had a hard time booking online for some reason but was able to call in and easily book with the helpful receptionist. We had five people in our party and she was so great at keeping our booking organized. The waiting area was very relaxing and allowed our party to all hang out together while we waiting for our respective time slots -- it made time fly by much faster. I had Tamera for my Elemental Facial and it was by far my favorite facial experience thus far! She was lovely and so accommodating to my skincare concerns. I called ahead of time to make sure there was an esthetician who knew how to do a pregnancy safe facial -- and Tamera was my gal! It was my first prenatal facial, so I was quite nervous but she broke the ice as soon as we started our facial and I felt completely comfortable. The best spa the county! Very clean, they take sanitation seriously. Each employee is welcoming, I love it here. Though the Brazilian wax may be more on the pricer side, it is 100% worth it, I guarantee you! I personally prefer Mariam, I've been with her for months now and she is the best! I have gotten out of the house without my young children *maybe* four whole times in the past year. So getting a pedicure first thing this morning, as soon as Verbena opened, was magnificent. I didn't have to wait long, and there was no one else in the pedicure room. I didn't get the technician's name - we barely spoke. But that was what I needed, to be immersed in my thoughts while my gnarly toes got polished. While I have enjoyed services at Verbena, about a month ago I had a facial that includes a vitamin c mask. This mask caused a rash that I'm am still trying to get rid of a month later. I do t know what was in the mask but my skin, which is normally smooth, erupted into a horrible rash over my face, neck and upper chest. This facial was almost $200 and when I asked about how to address the problem, I was told to use a moisturizer, and I have used several. Although my skin seems to be slowly healing, this experience has discouraged from getting services at Verbena again. read more

I know, I probably shouldve left as soon as I noticed the stuffy room may affect my asthma, and my husband wants the money back. But because it was pre paid and I would prefer to leave a detailed review. I stayed and waited to find out what we paid for. Perhaps my experience was not at the fault of the techs but possibly management. Because the obnoxious nail tech only spoke to her coworker to complain about the 15 minutes she had for a break and the 5 minutes she had to eat. Towards the end I was pretty much listening to them talk amongst themselves and the other clients, and I heard that Verbena will be moving at the end of the month to another establishment in downtown. I also noticed that the 3 customers that I saw come by are all regulars. They were all getting a polish change on their toes, and were not shocked by anything. So obviously it's not a real full service nail spa, and instead of trying to please me by offering me the services I was looking for, (price is not an issue) by just rescheduling me with a pro, or admitting what they lack, I got what I got and igtfo. Sandy left Verbena months ago :(. I went back there once for a Brazilian with Junia, the owner. She was alright but wasn't nearly as through as Sandy so I never tried waxing there again. I did go back for spa services. Boon did a great pedicure with paraffin treatment and I very much enjoyed it. I also had a facial with Makiko that was also quite pleasant. I have no idea how she was able to see what she was doing because the room was really dark. Good for the client but seems like that would be tough on the esthetician! Overall, the staff is excellent and good at what they do. A lot of salons and spas have snotty front desk staff but here the ladies are always welcoming and helpful. read more

Update: I went back for a facial today and it was amazing enough that I wanted to change my review from 3 stars to 5 stars! Makiko worked magic on my worn out pregnancy skin and I feel amazing! An awesome experience!! I highly recommend! I am giving them 3 stars for being very kind and knowledgeable but unfortunately, my pedi is just not to the standard that I'm used to. The ends of my toe nails were left jagged after they used clippers and didn't file w. Also, polish was left on my skin. I had to go home and clean up the excess polish and file my nails down so there weren't any sharp edges. Additionally, the location where you get your nails done isn't what I would expect - just a small room with two chairs. Maybe this is temporary? Anyways, I plan to return for a massage to use up a gift card. Otherwise, I will stick with my normal nail salon. Simply not worth the pricey costs. read more

I've been going to Verbena for a couple of years now. I really like their new space and location. It is nice and relaxing and they've added a spa area where you can wait between appointments. Makiko is excellent for face and brow waxing. I am trying a facial with her next week, my assumption is it will be good. She is very meticulous. I also had my hair cut by Kimberly a couple of weeks ago and she listened to what I wanted and did a great job. I usually drive from Frederick to Richmond (my home town) to get my hair cut and colored because I don't trust anyone with my thin, damaged hair but I am thinking of trying Kimberly for color as well. read more

Miriam is the best esthetician I've ever worked with. Her extractions are what keep me going to her exclusively for the past 10 years or so. I now drive 30 minutes out to get the deep clean I need that she can only provide. Verbena is lovely and so lucky to have her! read more

I just had two treatments at Verbena Spa last week and was so pleasantly surprised at the level of service. The massage with Tina and the facial with Miriam far exceeded expectations. Both ladies were professional and very skilled at what they did. My only disappointment was that I've waiting so long to discover this spa. I've definitely found a home (already booked my second treatments) and look forward to returning knowing I'll get the best treatments around. I have seen Miriam for years at another salon for my brows. When she moved, I followed her to Verbena. In my opinion she does the best brows in Maryland. Very natural approach and painless. My brows always look great afterwards. In addition, I recently saw her for a collagen facial when my other esthetician moved to another state. My skin was glowing, smooth and hydrated! I have very sensitive, fair skin and I experienced no adverse reactions or redness following the facial. I will definitely be back to see her soon! read more

The facilities are clean and tidy with posted safety protocols that ensure everyone's comfort and security. I loved Addie, my esthetician who for an hour and 20 minutes made my face glow with her quiet, skilled application of facial goodies and light massage. I was so relaxed and will def be booking with her again soon! What I also appreciated was her build-in of suggested products that I lacked at home. I would like to say that my wife and I had a wonderful couple's massage at Verbena but due to the cancellation of our appointment one week ahead of time by Verbena I cannot. According to Alexis, the spa manager, this was due to a family emergency for one of their massueses. Highly unusual to hear about a family emergency one week ahead of time, but with that kind of notice I would assume that Verbena would have another employee available as backup. My wife and I made our evening plans over a month ago and they included a hotel stay in Frederick (only now partially refundable), a babysitter for the night (who I will still pay) and a dinner reservation. Alexis offered to reschedule our appointment but that doesn't help with any of our other plans that were made. If Verbena is unable to fufill their appointments due to lack of staff then perhaps they need to decrease their availibility. It will go a long way in securing/retaining clients. They are still great, but in my most recent visit, I got a spa pedicure that lasted for 75 minutes. I got a massage, shaping, scrubbing, moisturizing and information on how to maintain my pedicure and a truly relaxing experience. For all of that I paid.... wait for it.... wait for it.... $40! Are you kidding me? I will not go anywhere else for a pedicure.. Especially when I can get that kind of service. For a Brazilian bikini wax and a pedicure my grand total was $100. Not bad, Verbena! Not bad at all! It is good to see that while business is picking up, the quality of service hasn't gone down. What a rarity! Verbena which is owned by Junia is a warm and inviting Day Spa with what I consider excellent service. As soon I walked in I was greeted with a smile from Claudia, front desk girl and immediately I felt more relaxed. My appointment was for a 90 minute facial and I have had many in the past, but this was what I would call an ultimate facial. After filling out the questionaire Junia took me into a small room dimly lit, with one of those spa type beds that was just heated enough should I feel any slight chill. It was wonderful. What impressed me was that Junia asked me if I had any problems with my skin. She did a complete skin profile indicating where I needed more attention. She was thorough in that she explained how different climates and times of the year can effect my skin and its needs. We talked about pigmentation and which products would be best for my skin and skin type to correct this problem. Now another important point I must make was that Junia worked on my face, neck, upper back, decolletage and also massaged hands, arms, legs and feet. I highly recommend Junia for facials and especially the 90 minute one. You will get total pampering for the full time. read more

Based on yelp reviews, I asked for a gc/massage appointment at Verbena for my birthday present. so glad I listened to my fellow Yelpers....my massage with Judi was AM-AZ-ING! Verbena is tucked away on Patrick St next to the Sandy Springs bank, I actually drove past it first, before I realized where it was. The waiting room is bright and the staff is wonderfully attentive. Judi was excellent and her technique was on point. I'd had a stressful couple months and a 60 minute session with Judi left me completely relaxed and refreshed. They have other specialized facials and massage services listed that I am definitely interested in checking out. Although a little pricier than other spas in the area, I truly felt like i got my money's worth here. trust me... I'll be requesting more massage appointments at Verbena for my birthday, valentine's day and just because :) read more

First, I have to say that I would give this spa 5 stars for its service and kindness. Everyone who works here is great, but the services themselves are OK, which is sad given the price tag. However, I have to say again because the service is SO great (we came here for a bridal party and they were so so accommodating), I wouldn't have a problem coming back, but I probably would get a cheaper service. I got the deep tissue massage, which I have gotten several times at other places. The masseuse said that she had a "firm" hand, which I thought was great! But then during the actual massage, I didn't feel that much pressure at all, and didn't get the great deep kneading that is characteristic of the deep tissue massage. But she was SO kind and snuck in a quick hot stone massage, so again, I really enjoyed it even though it was more of a Swedish massage than deep tissue. Other girls got the reflexology, which they said they loved, and said that their masseuse was super knowledgeable. The bride got the warm shea butter wrap and she said she loved it. The biggest disappointment were the mani/pedis. I was really looking forward to these since all the other Yelp reviews were raving about it, but they were a disappointment. Three girls got pedis (including me) and two of us got gel manis, and another got a polish change. We all left with ragged edges and one of the girls had polish missing on half her toe nails. Watching the technician work on my toes was painful, she globbed on the polish and didn't bother to smooth out the edges. Usually when my nails grow out, they look OK because the lines on my cuticles are smooth and rounded out. This time though, they look like I painted my nails with my eyes closed. When I left the salon, I had a ton of polish on my skin still. It's been about a week and a half, and four of the gel nails have fallen off. I'm definitely going to have to go back to my regular salon to get it fixed. They usually last me three weeks. Again, wonderful customer service and all of the technicians who work there are really nice. I just wish I had left with better results! read more

Had a fantastic experience here today! I called last minute to get an appointment for a waxing and they fit me in within the hour. The salon is kept very nice and the staff is extremely pleasant. I even got lost trying to find it, and the staff politely talked me through on how to find their location over the phone. My experience with the waxing was wonderful too! I unfortunately cannot recall the lady's name who did it, but Rose, was on the door... So maybe that's her?! But she was great! I highly recommend this place!! read more

I have been to both their old and new locations and I am thrilled they have moved to the new space. Its easy to get to, ample parking and the interior is decorated beautifully with ample space to relax. I came on a Sunday for a massage. Came right in, was greeted at the front desk, filled out my paperwork and was taken back to the Zen relaxation room where I waited for my massage therapist. Sophie was my therapist for the day and she was amazing. She asked me what areas to work on and pressure before we started and put me in such a state of relaxation. I am someone who likes regular facials as a little luxury. I have been having a hard time trying to find a great experience until today. Makiko was incredible. I haven't felt so pampered or relaxed in awhile. I seriously did not want it to end. She goes above and beyond with the massage while your mask works, and is extremely knowledgeable.
