What Thompson and Sons in FL fails to tell you is that they DBA as just Thompson Moving in NJ (which has a few "not terrible" reviews).. had i know this and seen these reviews, BBB rating of an F, etc, ahead of time, I clearly would not have booked this company. That said, here is my "thought out" and "objective" review of "Two Morons and a Rent-a- Truck"... I mean "Thompson and Sons" Moving and Storage. I give them two stars, because, luckily (unlike all of the others) I was not Swindled out of more money (not that they didn't try). I was given a time of 9-10am. Of course, it happens to be the first snowy/slushy day of the year, thus I expected a delay. THAT SAID, to receive a call at 9:30 telling me that "due to the weather" they were still an hour and a half away, I was a bit shocked; but i made like Elsa, and "Let it Go" When the BUDGET RENT-A-TRUCK finally arrived (AT 12:30PM), after countless calls, the main guy informed me that he came from his home in Brooklyn (Brooklyn is a little over an hour away, so reading between the lines, what he basically told me was that he left at the time that he needed to be there... and then hit traffic... 2+2= DUH) first mistake. Next, he tried to go over the contract with me, BUT FORGOT A PEN (being that the apartment was packed away, he sent the other guy on a 4 minute long excursion around the building to find a pen). When guy 2 finally came back, they asked if the furniture (all of 2 pieces) needed to be disassembled; I said "yes" and informed him that this was part of the agreement (as well as stated on the contract that everything will be broken down and put back together). That's when they asked if i had a screwdriver, because apparently they forgot one of those too... THEY FORGOT A SCREWDRIVER. Another 7 minute excursion around the building (yes, I'm timing them now, because in the 3+ hour wait I got to read all of the lovely reviews and pretty much guessed that I would be charged for additional time at the end of the move). Long story short, after asking me if I'd like my mattress shrink wrapped for an additional cost (then telling me that its usually mandatory), a stop back at the apartment (Because they forgot something in the room), an argument over cash (when I was told and confirmed that I could pay by credit... apparently not the case) and them trying to get another hours pay out of me (I told them not to reassemble my furniture... and thus just leave), my stuff got to where it needed to go, and its not dented or scratched. Could have been worse, but to say I will never use these guys again, is an understatement. DO YOUR HOMEWORK..... you've been warned! read more

This experience is a nightmare. The only thing that went right was the moving of the furniture. But the customer service is absolutely mismanaged, the call center is a disaster, and the explanation of services and fees is non existant. They overcharged me over 100 dollars, the company I dealt with wasn't even the same name but they operate under Thompson and Sons. At the end of my move I was honestly shaken down and intimidated for extra money. I've attempted to contact an office or boss to remedy the issue but I clearly see that there will be no resolving it. Not only did they screw up the dates and deliver my stuff before my lease even started, but they tried to scam me by saying my items needed to be transferred to a shuttle. They transferred my items to a shuttle without my knowledge or consent and then tried to charge me additional money for this. There were also several other hidden fees that they do not tell you about in your initial estimate. For me costs ended up being close to DOUBLE what was on the original estimate. Worst moving company ever! They called me non stop after I requested a quote because they wanted my business. They sold me on the fact they had insurance if anything happened to my furniture. I had a brand new bed with leather headboard, which the scuffed and ruined completely. Not only did they ignored all my requests to place a claim for a year and a half, but the moves took almost 12 hours to move a one bedroom apartment an hour away. Ridiculous and irresponsible. I asked the movers why they were not using blankets or quilts to protect my furniture as offered in your quote for white glove service, they replied they were not given any blankets or quilts with the truck and had no tools with them...... Due to their late arrival I helped them which was painful as I am a senior citizen but they finished loading the truck at 9pm and couldn't make it on time to unload it at my new location (cut off time 5pm). I received a call from the company to let me know that my furniture will be delivered the next day at 9am and when I asked how am I going to sleep if my bed was in the truck, I was suggested to buy an air mattress for the night and send the receipt to the company!!! The next day a different crew arrived to unload the truck, which had a mechanical problem and couldn't park in front of my building. The rain started and they dragged all my furniture on the floor damaging several pieces for which I have filled a claim, which has not be resolved as of today. The supervisor asked me to pay for the balance in cash for an amount of $375 plus $60 in tips and when I asked for the receipt he said the company only uses electronic receipts and I should receive it very shortly, I never received it. The next day my bank alerted me that 2 charges of $170 and $236.19 had been applied to my account on top of the $50 deposit and the cash payment. During my call to the company Saturday July 2nd to complain about this issue, I was told they will investigate the situation with the supervisor and these charges would be reversed to my account, as of today no credit has been applied to my account and damages to my furniture not compensated. I spoke with Shawn who said he was with Sovereign Movers. He was very pushy but offered me a great price and assured me I could cancel at anytime and get my deposit back. The contract even said as long as you cancel within 2 weeks of the scheduled move date you will receive a full refund. I never signed the contract but I did put the deposit down. After seeing I was actually charged by Thompson Movers I did some research and saw their horrible reviews and decided to cancel. I called the next day and spoke with shawn and told him I wanted to cancel. He told me that I would not get my deposit back and was very rude to me. I asked to speak to the manager and he responded "I am the manager". After arguing a bit more I was transferred to Lewis who presented himself as the sales manager. Lewis was much nicer than Shawn and tried to get me to stay with them but after dealing with Shawn I wanted nothing to do with them. Lewis eventually told me that I would be refunded within 3-5 business days. After 5 business days I received no email confirmation and I was not refunded. I called and asked to speak with Lewis again, he said he did not remember speaking with me and I did not speak with him. He again told me I would be refunded within 3-5 business days and I would receive and email confirmation. Another 5 business days went past and I received no email and was not refunded. I called again asked to speak to Lewis. When I spoke with Lewis I was told I did not speak with him, I must have spoken with the other Lewis. Again I was told I would be refunded within 3-5 business days and would receive an email confirmation. I let a day go past and I received no email. I called again and asked to just speak with customer service. She told me that the cancellation never went through and that she would put it through. Again another 3-5 business days until I would be refunded, but she did tell me I would not receive any email confirmation. Almost 2 weeks later I still have not received a refunded and decided to stop dealing with them and dispute the charge with my credit card company. read more

However, the devastation and shock came once the movers got everything I had own into their look alike *rental* truck; then, they demanded 1,064 *more* money that included 200.00 for storage for that day and each day forward until they got what they wanted out of nowhere. THOMPSON AND SON MOVING AND STORAGE BOCA RATON, FL - Outsourced my move to: QMS PRO MOVERS INC FORT LEE NJ 07024 1-866-289-3456 11/2016 This company lied about prices, under quoted me, employs untrained movers, was 18 hours late between pick up and delivery for a direct delivery, arrived to the wrong city, got lost, the movers phone died for two hours, the truck was dirty, the truck died and had to be jumped with my car, my father had to assist the movers who did not know how to move large furniture and injured himself. Also according to the contract I was able to pay with money orders and the movers refused to accept it because they forgot the company card for gas and tolls for the drive back. They threatened to lock the truck and then they would send their lawyer if I didn't give them cash at 11pm. When they broke my antique glass entertainment center they assured me that I could file a claim to get the money reimbursed for the repairs. After filing, it has been three months and every time I call they answer and then either tell me someone will call me soon or make me hold for over an hour. After speaking to Shawn the supervisor he said there is no information he can give to me regarding my insurance claim and I needed to wait 90 days, after waiting that time period already. This is the worst moving company and I am speaking to a lawyer. This company is a joke. read more

I hired these movers mostly because I was moving from a downstairs unit to an upstairs unit and couldn't do it all by myself. The two men were right on time, polite, worked hard and efficiently, and basically did whatever I needed them to do. They worked for about 4 hours and it was over $400 and a lot of that was due to the 12% fuel charge, considering that they drove from Titusville which is NOWHERE near where I live! One of the worst experiences I had when it comes to customer service. We setup for a move date on a Friday a week and a half in advance. So, we setup for all our things to be shutoff at the old place for that afternoon. Let me say... We were moving from one condo to another that was literally 7 condos down on the same floor. We just needed the guys to stop at a place where we needed some things picked up and brought over before doing that move. The morning of I get a call that the drivers are on the way. About an hour later I get a call from a nice lady, Candice, that the truck broke down and they have to change the move until the following day. We can't do that because we will have no power or anything that night. So, they say we can send the truck to the place the next morning where stuff needs to get picked up and brought to the new place. So, we said okay. Candice, the office, worker offered to drive the stranded workers to our place to move us down the hall. So, we can get that part done. 4 hours later they show up and help do the move. Mind you one of them complained once arriving and seeing what they had to move. It's your job as movers. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary either. A bed, bedroom furniture, dining room furniture and living room furniture. When that was all done in the two hours as allotted. Which shouldn't have taken two hours. They tell us that they can't go to the other location the next day. That it has to be on Tuesday. Problem is that person is moving and needs the stuff out by that weekend. Seeing that they had not completed job as talked about they would move others on Saturday at most an hour to finish the job we had asked and paid for. No, they put us on the bottom of the list and didn't even explain why. They just said they couldn't do it and that's it. Their sales manager Jason is one of the rudest people I have ever come across on the phone. He was arrogant and no explanation... Just an answer and was having no discussion about it. He should take an example from some of his employees who were better with customer service. I will never recommend them to anyone. Hired movers to relocate from Sunrise, FL to St Petersburg, FL. Upon delivery, movers demanded cash payment for property to be released, unwarranted. I hired Thompson & Sons Moving to relocate my family from Sunrise, FL (33323) to St Petersburg, FL (33705) on 10/21. I was quoted at 4 hours worth of labor, and 7 hours worth of travel time. The move began on 10/21 at 9:30am, and the movers departed at 10:15am, totaling 45minutes of the allotted 4 hours worth of labor. The movers arrived at the new residence at 3:00pm, and left the new residence after unloading at 5:15pm. That's 2hr15min of additional labor, with a grand total of 3 of the 4 hours quoted actually utilized. It was made abundantly clear that if I somehow exceeded the quoted 4 hours of labor, the company would only bill in 15min increments at the same rate. However, prior to unloading the truck at 3pm, the laborers received a call from their supervisor stating they should charge us 6 hours of labor, rather than 4. The movers stated they were required per their supervisor (goes by the name of Shawn) to collect at a minimum of $200 cash in addition to our $866.10 Western Union money order, or they would keep our property (we had an $866.10 money order on hand, as this was the amount remaining after the original quote - reference grid below). Well, as they had possession of our entire lives, and without any other option, we were forced to go to the ATM and withdraw $200 in cash simply to have our items returned. Additionally, there was an unwarranted $131.00 charge made to my credit card by Thompson & Sons without my permission (they had my card number on file from when I made a $150 deposit when scheduling the move initially). I attempted to contact the supervisor Shawn on multiple occasions, only to be ducked and dodged. I spoke with Shawn this afternoon, and was told he was tired of speaking about it, and there was nothing I could do because he already had my money, and "tough luck...it's your problem". I've worked in customer service previously and was stunned a business would chose to conduct themselves in such a manner on the phone. We utilized 3 of the 4 hours of labor, and did not exceed any additional quoted measures (didn't have stairs, no long walks, nothing that you would expect a mover to charge additionally to). Lastly, they quoted me at a 10% discount, only to remove it mid-move (I'm assuming this is the $131.00 charge to my credit card made). The business failed to comply with many basic laws (failure to provide me with a "Know Your Rights" handbook, etc.). I also specifically asked the business if they own their own moving trucks, of which I was fully assured the answer was "Yes", however upon arrival, the business had a leased "Cummings" leased moving van. It's a case of misrepresentation of billable charges, and false advertising as to the identify of whom they are. It's another example of how Thompson & Sons chooses to do business, of which their ratings/BBB 'F' grade proves. The business is able to alter after-the-fact a flimsy "agreement" once all of the customer's property is in their possession, and is leveraging the ambiguity of the agreement to their advantage to hold personal property hostage until payment is provided to their satisfaction. This is simply not right, and others should be aware of the "bait-and-switch" tactics. Stay away! read more

After I received an email for my initial quote to move, I decided to cancel the reservation within the same day. I did not sign the electronic agreement that was in the email. I did put down a $50 deposit. I decided to cancel the reservation because my friends decided to help me move. I called their customer service number and the lady said she would cancel the reservation and refund my money back. I received a phone call from Shawn about 10 mins later. I explain my reason and he was very negative towards me stating that I will not get my deposit back because the "truck has been reserved." No where on the agreement did they say they could not refund my money back. It stated that if I canceled before 7 day of notice there would be no penalty. I told Shawn that I will accept the $50 loss. I decided to accept the lost because since I felt that this company was already bullying me and being dishonest. They did not follow their own policy agreement and tried to intimidate me into keeping the reservation. I filled a complaint with the BBB. Not sure why there are so many poor reviews on this company? We used them to move our mom out of her condo and into a mother-in-law suite at our house. She had to downsize a lot before she moved, so we didn't have a large quantity to move but we did have big pieces (all her furniture). They were professional, friendly, and on time (within the time frame they gave us). We had trouble getting her couch into the door of her suite and they went above and beyond to make it fit- they took off the legs then put them back on once they finagled it into the space. I too had one of the worst experiences with this company and with Jason, the sales manager. Below is a description of my experiences with this company: Thompson & Sons Moving and Storage charged me for a service that they did not provide and have not issued a refund in an expedited manner. My move date was scheduled for Saturday between the hours of 9:00am-10:00am. I called T&S at 9:10am to confirm that they were on their way and they ensured me that the movers were en route. When they had not arrived by 10:00am, I called again. It was then that I learned that they had rescheduled my move without notifying me. The new timeframe was now 2:00pm-4:00pm. I asked how they planned to resolve this huge inconvenience on their part and after much hesitation, they offered to lower my hourly rate from $95/hr to $79/hr. When they finally showed up AFTER 4:00pm, there were only two movers and a truck. My quote included three movers and a truck. I called them again to express my dissatisfaction with their service and asked for a refund. Jason, the sales manager, agreed to issuing a FULL refund and then rudely hung up the phone on me. I have tried reaching them on two occasions to ask when I should expect to receive the refund and they keep giving me the run around, telling me to call back in 2 hours, placing me on hold, and rudely hanging up. Do NOT use these guys. They will rip you off as they did me. I had a last minute emergency next day move so I was under the gun to book someone. Thompson were the first ones I called and they gave me a phone quote but did not send an estimator to my home as the others did. The man I spoke with told me to put down a deposit or they might not be able to hold a spot. I was reluctant but did so, after I was assured it was refundable and that I could cancel so long as I called before the end of business. (My wife heard him say this because I had it on speaker) I got an amazing flat rate from another mover so I decided to cancel. I left several phone messages because I could not reach a live person, so I emailed. About 4 pm he called me back and demanded to know why I hadn't given him the chance to match the competitors offer. I told him I felt more comfortable with the in person estimate and that was why. At this point he became instantly belligerent, telling me it was too late to cancel (even though it was not yet 5 p.m.) that he had turned down a more expensive job because of me, then started insulting my manhood and questioning if I peed standing up (his words verbatim) and told me he would charge me the full price of the move if I canceled. I begged and pleaded to be reasonable but his words were "It's done" he gave me 10 minutes to keep my appointment or he would charge me then and there. He called me a 2nd time to harass me, and charged me 500 dollars before the end of the phone call for a job he never performed. I hired these thugs to move me. They quoted a great price but that's where the great ends. The building I am moving to requires a Certifiate of Insurance. The horror show trying to get the certificate was insane. I requested that the contact the building to make sure the certificate is correct. The person I spoke to, Shaun Thompson refused and said that he's not "doing my legwork". I got them the correct information (took a whole 2 minutes on the phone with the building) in addition to emailing them the information from the building which included a sample certificate, and they still did not get the Certificate to the building on time, which meant I could not move. They had 3 weeks to get this done! I had to hire a last minute moving company and now will sue Thompson for the difference in price that I had to pay. Do not use these people, even if they were the last movers on earth. You'd be better off buying camels and strapping your furniture to them to move. Where is the zero star option? read more

This company should not be in business. They were supposed to arrive on 9/21 between 1 and 2PM. They called the day before and informed me they would likely be coming in the morning instead. They then called me around 11:30AM on the day of and informed me that they were now running late on a job and would actually be coming late not early at around 4PM. At 4:30, I called and they told me again they were delayed and wouldn't be there until around 6. At 6:30, the same thing occurred again as they told me they wouldn't be there until around 8. Their office closes at 8, so I called at 7:40 to confirm they would be there at 8. They then told me it would be closer to 9 but they were definitely coming as I informed them earlier that I was sitting with my stuff outside waiting for them for the last 5 hours. They then gave me the drivers phone number. At around 10:30, I finally got in touch with the driver who said they would call me back in 10 minutes; I never heard back. I left a voicemail on the company's phone and finally got a call back from them at 7:30AM the following morning when they told me they'd be there to finally move me around 10AM. They continued their delays, in which I continually had to call them to be made aware of and finally arrived at my apartment at 1:45PM on 9/22, 24 hours after the scheduled time we had agreed on days in advance in which they required a deposit for. Additionally, the truck was full of garbage and debris when they arrived which they put my stuff next to and top of. The only bright spot of this move was that they didn't break anything (that I know yet) and did bring the stuff to the right address. Amazingly, they did not think the delay was a big deal, did not discount the amount we agreed upon after showing up 24 hours late and then actually called me to review them here on yelp. Please do not hire this company, they deserve to go out of business. read more
