I rented a concrete mixer of 1 yard from them for the first time. Nobody told me that it had to be completely clean upon returning It. Just seems like it's worth mentioning to the customer if you're going to keep their 200$ deposit because of it. A little disappointed in the Lack of communication . This place is awesome. We are not going back to Home Depot or Lowes unless we absolutely have to or if they pay me. This place has great products spread over 30 acres and everything you will need for your house. We went looking for actual flagstone pavers for our backyard flooring and found the most beautiful product at a reasonable price. Lowes and HD on the other hand have fake flagstone made out of concrete for the same price. The flowers, trees, arbors, patio furniture, etc. is 10 times better and nicer than anywhere else. Not to mention the customer service is excellent. We were helped by Jesse and Armando who were extremely helpful and nice. I he no clue what the other negative reviews are talking about. Those people must have had a single isolated incident - which we have all probably had at lowes and Home Depot but still go back because we thought there is nothing better or any other choices. This is the worst experience I have ever had doing business with someone. We placed an order for some Hebron brick back in February. Thompson Building Materials located in Fontana finally got around to placing the order for the brick at the end of May. I know the brick was ready to be picked up at Hebron because I called and confirmed this myself. Thompson told me the truck was on its way. Only to find out when it got here that Thompson had, with no explanation as to why, not put our order on the truck. So here we are in June, back to square one. read more

Love this place. Feel like a kid in a candy store. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because they're not set up to take orders online and they will not take orders and allow you to pay for them over the phone. It would definitely be more convenient to place an online order or over the phone and have my landscaper go pick it up. As it is now I have to physically go there, pay for it, and then have my landscaper come pick it up. Meh....while I was impressed with all they had to offer, the employees didn't seem to care at all. We went in to look at the design center to choose stone veneer for the exterior of our house. Got to the design center at Thompsons and there was a young girl behind the counter playing on her phone. We told her that we wanted to look at samples of stone veneer and she just waved us toward all the displays and told us there were more samples outside. Then she promptly returned to whatever she was doing on her cell phone. So we went and looked around, we had some questions, but there really was no one around to help except the girl behind the counter. It was just the two of us in the showroom, but this clerk couldn't have cared less. She was just playing on her cell phone and the later on the computer. We looked inside and outside at the sample stone and decided to purchase two samples to view at home. In the meantime, another clerk came back from lunch and plopped herself behind the counter at another computer and was doing the same thing as the first girl....she appeared to be surfing the internet and playing on her phone. The first girl looked it up the samples for us on the computer and gave us a slip to take waaaaay back over to the sales office to pay for. Then after we paid, we had to go waaayyyy back over to nearly where the design center was to pick up the samples from one of the guys driving around on a forklift. The guy who brought out the samples gave us one that was correct, but the other sample was completely different than the sample we ordered. We had waited so long for someone to come and pull the order, we just accepted it and left. It was hot, they didn't seem to care, so we just wanted to get out of there. It was sad that this place is so well stocked but that the help they have could care less. The girls working in the design center appear to be just clerical and not sales people or design consultants. There was one color of veneer in the catalog that we couldn't find on the sales floor and her reply was "well, we might not have a sample"....she could care less! These Thompson people must either treat these people horrible, so they in turn treat the customers horrible, or it's so mis-managed, that they have no clue their employees suck. I'll continue searching for stone....elsewhere. read more

I just wanted to alert the public about an experience I had. I have done business with Thompson's for many years. Have bought rock, plants, fountains, yard art and many other things. It was always one of my favorite places. Then last summer I bought another fountain from them. I spent around $800 and I paid for their employee to deliver and install the fountain. I have to admit that my receipt said that there was NO WARRANTY. Since I had bought a really nice quality fountain from them previously (which is still in great shape after about 15 years), I was not concerned, especially since I had them install it. Since I live alone and there are no others on my back patio who could damage the fountain, I was very surprised and unhappy to find that my fountain started leaking - tiny hairline cracks on two sides. I had not even had the fountain for a full year yet. I know it said NO WARRANTY - but what I think bothers me the most (except for being out $800+ on something that didn't last a year), I wrote them a very nice letter detailing my problem (including pictures) - I guess hoping at the very least to get an offer to replace the fountain at their cost or at a discount. They did not even bother to respond to me. I gave them my address, phone number and email. Nothing. I waited a couple of months and resent a copy of my letter saying that I was surprised that they had not even replied to me (again a very nice note) and, once again, they have completely ignored me. Make of this what you will, of course. I won't be back but I guess they really don't care. read more

Came in to get some prices on decorative rock. The sales rep was very helpful and got me rung up and even delivered same day. Her measurements were on point and I even had a few left over. The worst customer service. Instead of fixing the problem they told us to go buy new paint. We bought the Venizia paint and were told it takes 5-7 days. We called to get an update and they said we can pick up the primer, we arrive and it's not there. Few days pass we call back and they let us know it's ready. Our contractor picks up the paint but it's not mixed, we call to let them know and their response Is "you can come back and buy another one" it's $200 for a 5 gallons.. why would i go back and buy new paint? The sales rep Jorge did not inform that we either need it mixed or on the side. When we asked why he didn't offer that he said it was our contractors job to let us know how to order the paint. We're clearly not contractors and continued to say "you as a buyer should already know what you're ordering" as a sales rep it's ones job to help your customers. Instead he tries to up sell us on wax but doesn't mention how we would like the paint? We speak to a supervisor and he said they can mix the paint for a $15 fee but that it would take 2-3 day. The supervisor wasn't helpful at all, he said the sales rep did his job and again was our contractors fault for not informing us about the paint. read more

They had what I wanted. However, the mgr. that was there was not too friendly. Making us feel a little pressure in getting what I needed.

We ordered rainbow river rock from them in the past and they've always come thru for us with value and service. This time though there was a snafu with the delivery taking an extra day and the wrong rock being ordered and delivered but they made it right by not only letting us keep the wrong rock but also delivering the correct sized rock free of charge with no delivery fee. Both Chris in their Dispatch office and their delivery driver named Daniel were incredibly helpful and friendly in making everything right. Daniel apologized to me as did Chris about the snafu. We will definitely be using them in the future for all of our lawn and garden needs. Not to mention their showroom and facilities are like a Lawn and Garden version of Disneyland. Palm tree's already planted in decorative planters to DIY. Great BBQ Islands, turf to real SOD. Plants needing shade to plants that you can put in direct sunlight. Tools to help you dig and tools to help you clip. Prices are pretty resonable. Staff was ok, but honestly, the nursery specialist was amazing. She answered all my questions, took the time to show me different plants and didn't force anything on me. Rather told me to go home, look out my window and decide on what I want to see, ie Colors, tall/short plants, etc and then come back and they will help me make my backyard oasysis come. My wife and I have been looking for brick veneer for over a month and our local material yards were all but useless with poor help and high prices. We ran into the Thompson's crew at the Riverside home show a month earlier and decided to make the 40 mile drive to their location in Fontana. We walked into a landscapers paradise which is 37 acres of everything necessary to complete most of our landscaping ideas. Every employee that we came across asked if we needed help, all were extremely friendly. We told someone what we were looking for and we were hooked up with Sergio to help us. Within 5 minutes we found what we were looking for and were on our way to the cashier. I might also add that the price we paid was over 70% lower than our local yards. We were very pleased with the ease and helpfulness of all involved with our purchase. For any and all landscaping or building material projects we will definitely come here again and again. read more

This location has very helpful and friendly employees. They have new hours for Sundays from 8am to 3pm. I feel bad they have to stay late to help customers (due to new store hours not updated on their company website) when they have no control over the cashier obligations after the store closes. Kenneth, Rachel, Lupe, and Isis have all helped me at one point or another when I was there looking over their stone inventory as well as rock displays. Love this place - so many variety of home building materials. I bought stepping stones in pink color and the person helped me choose the right size even if he had to use hammer to shape it for me. I order a grill box frame that is 48 inches . The display they have there in the store has close sides and in the middle it has a square hole for the door. Well the box I got delivered has 2 big square holes on the sides and in front of the face it's closed solid. I called and told them about the issue and they basically cut me off .
