Let me start by saying I avoid the dentist and have severe dental anxiety. The staff has been exceptional from booking an initial appointment quickly to handling a complicated root canal. Our entire family started going to this office regularly in 1998, when Dr. Robert J. Matkovich built this beautiful building. He is the original owner & was a fantastic dentist until he suddenly passed away in 2012. At the time of his passing, we received a personal letter from his adoring staff, who sadly announced his passing. Dr. Matkovich treated his staff as family, and as such, they felt a tremendous loss as part of his family. Dr. Matkovich was the best in the business. I really feel like it's just too bad this dentist office is not the same since Dr. Matkovich passed away. The business has seen many different owners & even though they have only minorly compared to Dr. Matkovich, we've continued to go here for our dental needs. I don't care that they've kept his gardens (although they've let them go pretty badly), but sadly, that's about all that's the same at this office. It's a shame Dr. Matkovich's legacy is not being carried out. Dr. Thompson seems to only be riding on the coattails of the reputation of Dr. Matkovich. Dr. Matkovich thrived because he offered something different. He had the knowledge & expertise & really knew what he was doing. He did Dental Science. He did the best cosmetic work of anyone I've been to & I've been to a lot of dentists in my life. Dr. Thompson is okay but I feel like she just wants to rush into doing a lot of work that, in my opinion, might be unnecessary. Not only that, but the office manager, Gail, is very rough. She has the personality of someone with no heart. After speaking with Gail, I feel like she has no compassion or credentials that I'd ever rely on. She has the approach of a used car saleswoman. This last visit, I was appalled at the dental hygienist & her method of taking X-rays. It was not the high-tech method previously used by Dr. Matkovich. I questioned why this method was even being used on a patient already in considerable pain. When it was indicated to the hygienist that pain was being felt, the hygienist continued to prod & hurt until I made them stop. Another hygienist was called in to finish the x-rays because the first hygienist could not be effective at her job. This is something that really irked me & helped with my decision to not have work done here. I was told that the amount of work Dr. Thompson felt was immediately necessary was going to cost in the range of "approximately" $26,000. I applied for Care Credit & was approved for only a very tiny amount since my other financial obligations are high compared to my salary. I tried explaining to Gail that I'm a single mom, retired & on a fixed income. I told her I'd need to have them "work with me". In other words, I asked them to cut me a break, a discount for doing so much work at their office. Instead, after Gail "talked to Dr. Thompson", all the work that they were scheduling was quickly being pushed forward. They had no compassion for my financial situation. In fact, Gail was very condescending & rude about it. I at least expected to hear from Dr. Thompson herself, but only got the message through Gail that I could take it or leave it. I don't think anyone should feel pressured to get dental work started & done quickly when it comes to the fact insurance companies pay little to nothing for dental work, thus making everything be paid out of pocket. Plus, to add insult to injury, it's sad & insulting to have a dental office talk to you so callously & refuse to work with you at all. read more

Decided to finally check out this place since they catch my attention each year during the holidays with their festive outdoor decorations. They take extra precautions by meeting you at your vehicle for your appt to take your temp. before entering the facility. I didn't wait long as soon as I sat on the dental chair they got down to business. Took X-rays, teeth cleaning and met with Dr. Thompson. They were very careful and listened to what I wanted to Focus on and gave me options. I like their service, the team was nice in person, but their phone service not so great. The lady isn't too friendly on the phone to schedule appointments; sounds like she's yelling lol. But for the most part I'm a happy patient. read more

Im sure we can all agree that these type of appointments never get easier, nonetheless they must get done. HEALTH IS WEALTH YALL! Ya girl can handle most, needles and blood don't phase me...yet I CRINGE at the thought of having my teeth drilled!! The drooling, poking, and scraping, I mean Talk about awkward and uncomfortable! Dr.Lindsey did my molar extraction and let me tell you she is the best!!! DIDN'T feel a thing and the procedure took her about 30 mins. Amazingly fast, efficient, and very well done. I was shocked by how skilled and a gentle hand she has. Will be coming back for the next two, but this time without the anxiety. I know I'll be in very good hands here. This is the best dental office I've ever been to!!! Seriously, if you are thinking about going here, just do it! You won't regret it! From the moment you walk through the door you are greeted with the beautiful, smiling faces of the front office staff. They are so knowledgeable, personable, and friendly. They always do a great job answering any of my questions and concerns about my treatment plan and insurance/billing. All of the dental assistants and hygienists are amazing! They all seem to be very on top of their schedule, organized, and always take me back for my appointment right away. I love that they remember things that we talked about during my last appointment- it shows me that they are very detailed oriented! They also remember to be extra gentle during my cleanings because I have TMJ. The dentists here are very skilled, knowledgeable, and really take their time to help me understand why I need certain procedures. They put my X-rays and pictures of my teeth on a screen so I can visualize what exactly needs to be done and why. Not only that, I've only had high quality work done here. AVOID! I just got an estimate from that orthodontist I looked up and saw to continue my treatment of Invisalign and she is only going to charge me 166 per office visit. And if I need refinements after my treatment it would be 450. And 500 for both my retainers at end of treatment. Thompson tried to tell me I was a whole new case. They are in for the extracting as much money as possible from every client. Not so much to people with a problem. If they don't see the big bucks they are not interested. As you may notice from many of the photos for the Thompson Center for Dentistry, almost all of the practitioners are women. I chose this dental practice for that reason. Women tend to listen and communicate better with their patients and, boy, is this true with TCD. Even my husband prefers this practice to our old one led by a male dentist. From the front desk to the back office to the modern dental areas, patients are treated warmly. Of course, the female staff was not my only reason for choosing TCD. The dentists are graduates of leading dental schools and their competence shows at every visit. They carefully explain any dental issues and the procedures necessary to correct them. I like knowing what is going to happen and why. They also make sure the patient is comfortable throughout any procedure. The lady working in the front office wasn't too helpful. She kept telling my husband she was going to look into his insurance and my insurance to see what coverage is best. When my husband did not hear from her he kept calling for status and she would always say she was still looking into it or seemed confused. ALERT ALERT ALERT Called up based on their reviews and 1st thing I ask if they accepted my insurance. My wife had previously had a bone graft for 2 of her teeth from another dentist and our coverage is 50% off each tooth up to $2,500. She went in and they ended convincing her she needed a crown for completely different tooth which is still bothering her to this day. Not to mention they said she had 6 cavities which was totally inaccurate. When we called back about cost of implants the manager said for us to switch our coverage to a more expensive coverage through our insurance but it's a better plan. After calling my insurance I found out that we had no coverage at all for implants through this office. So I call the manager and she says I have been doing this for 30 yrs or so and nobody (dentist) will honor that. Thinking I'm an idiot I call back my insurance and they said who ever you talk to don't know what they are talking about or lying to you. Bottom line don't trust this company! read more

Be aware this place takes your money! They make you pay top dollar and as Gail stated on the phone " we charge the maximum amount" for services . They took my x-rays and stated I had several cavities and I gave them the ok to start the work but due to my insurance coverage I was only able to do a few and I would have to wait until the following year to get the rest done under my insurance. Thankfully I never went back. Today I visited a different dental office and got new x rays and they stated I had no cavities.i was in shock jokingly saying " oh they must have went away" clearly knowing that's not how it works but I was in shock that Thompson dentistry took me for a fool and lied saying I needed all this work done when I never did in the first place . I appreciate the honesty of my new dental office and if I were you guys do your research apparently this happens all the time. This dental office and experience was incredible!!! No need to ever go anywhere else! First off the location is easy to access off the 805 freeway. Once I arrived to the office building I was in awe of how beautiful it was. The waiting area is beyond accommodating with refreshments, cookies, wifi, and comfy chairs. Both receptionist were very nice and inviting. Once I went back to begin my X rays, I noticed that the area where all the patients are put at was completely OPEN! Your not put into a tiny, cold, weird smelling bright room. Your chair faces a TV and a big beautiful window that has a garden outside of it. Once you lie down there's even a TV on the ceiling!! The hygienist was pleasant and not heavy handed for my cleaning. After I was finished I spoke with Dr. Thompson who is also such a caring, warm, and wonderful person. I have never had such an amazing experience at a dental office or any doctor office like this one. Almost gets me excited to come back, if you can believe that one! read more

I absolutely love Thompson Center for Dentistry. I am honestly afraid of going to the dentist but finally gave in and have been attending this center. It has been the best experience in my entire life! The office is always super neat and clean. Dr. Lindsey is absolutely the best, and the staff is wonderful! Anytime I have questions with billing Gail is superior at answering questions and assisting me with making billing arrangements when needed! She is always pleasant and will work extra hard to make sure you are able to afford the work needed! And I needed a lot of work! I am grateful for finding this facility and their employees! My first visit will be my last. tl;dr (too long; didn't read) at the end. On my first visit there I was seen by a hygienist​ and an assistant. The hygienist​ (caucasian female, blonde hair, mid 40s?) didn't really seem to be as thorough as other hygienists​ that I've been to. While flossing my teeth she just touched the floss down to my gum, not even trying to clean the inner sides of my teeth. After she was done I said, "Oh so that's all I have to do when flossing?" and she nodded, "yes." Obviously, I was trying to act oblivious but if that's the kind of apathy that I get from the hygienist​​ then that tells you a little something about this organization. Afterwards, she delegated the fluoride part to an assistant. I believe her name was Ashley (caucasian female, dark hair, mid 20s) was about to walk me out and I said, "what about the fluoride?" to which she replied, "Oh yeah!" The time that the hygienist​​ delegated the task to her seeing me was literally only 5 minutes apart, and she "forgot." Then, she took to what looked like one of those brushes that you use to paint your nails with and carelessly painted my teeth with fluoride. Again, no attention to carefully covering the surfaces of the teeth with the fluoride. Overall, my first experience was just pathetic. I had to go back another day to get a couple of cavities filled so I had to see Dr. Lindsey. What usually takes a 30-minute​ visit took almost an hour and a half. It started with a mandibular block and I waited for 10 minutes. I knew something was off because I didn't feel the same numbness as I used to, she didn't hit the correct landmark. When the drill came onto my tooth, I immediately had a body bolt. She attempted a second time to do a mandibular block and the same thing happened. The drill came into my mouth, I felt pain, and she tried a 3rd time. Repeat that for a 4th time. Finally, my mouth was finally numb at the 4th attempt and even still, I was anxious to feel the drill on my teeth. I've never had an experience were the Dentist failed 3 times to hit the correct landmark for a mandibular block. I have never recalled such a horrible experience from seeing other dentists than this one, even when my wisdom teeth was pulled, my experience wasn't that bad compared to this visit. Imagine having a surgery without anesthesia. Trust me, you would not want to experience this either. I walked out from what usually only takes 30 minutes to nearly 1 hour and 30 minutes later. Although this looks like a nice place, don't be fooled. They charge nearly 2-3x as much for the same work as other dentists, even though they are literally doing the same procedure. So tell me, what's worth it to you, a fair, experienced dentist vs. a for-profit, inexperienced dentist? That's a rhetorical question, obviously a fair, experienced dentist. I would give a 0/5 stars if I could but I suppose I will give it a 1/5 for my interaction with Dr. Jagger. She was knowledgeable and kind. tl;dr my experience with the hygienist​, assistant, and Dr. Lindsey was horrible. The hygienist was apathetic, the assistant (Ashley) was careless, and with Dr. Lindsey failed to hit the correct landmark for a mandibular block 3 times. 0/10 would not recommend this place to any one. read more

The best dentist and dental office EVER!! Dr. Thompson and her staff are friendly and caring. Dr. Matkovich was my dentist for decades. There was concern when he passed on my part for he made treatments painless with exemplary high quality dentistry. Dr. Thompson has met and exceeded in filling (no pun intended) some big shoes. I am just as comfortable going there as in the pass. Her staff are knowledgeable and make you feel like family. I have found Gail and her assistants helpful and fun! In a recently less than glowing review that was posted, the reviewer was upset because of the cost of work they need and can't get a break on paying for, they wanted their work discounted. Dentistry is a business. They are not a loan company or bank. To ask one to work with you to make it easier for you to pay is absurd. That's what Care Credit is for. Your teeth are the window to your health, if you maintain them regularly then you won't need thousands of dental work. If you want high quality dental care, then you want Dr. Thompson. I am a nervous wreck when I go to dentists for some reason and when I came into the office they made me feel welcome and took care of me from beginning to end. Gail and all the ladies at the front desk were very kind and friendly. First class friendly, something that is missing in this world. Then I went back to get fillings done and dr. Jaguar and her assistant were gentle and informative. She told me every step she was doin so I wouldn't be worried and I left with confidence that I would go back to them again for my teeth to be taken care of. Came into Thompson Dental after a friend referred me to Dr. Jagger. I came in not really knowing anything about crowns or fillings, and left knowing more than I ever imagined I would! Dr. Jagger was extremely sweet, and walked me through the process and explained to me every step and task that she was going to complete - it felt as though my own mother somehow got awesome dental prowess overnight and was dealing with my cracked crown. tl;dr: They bilked me out of $3,000 and left me in constant pain. Would not recommend. They then tried to go for another $5,000 I went in for a regular checkup, was informed I had 12 cavities and would have to get them all filled. I was surprised, as my previous checkup six months prior had been fairly okay. Filling twelve cavities cost me a couple thousand dollars and left my (previously painless) mouth in constant pain even when I wasn't chewing anything. I asked about whether this was normal and whether there was anything they could do about the fact that they'd essentially bashed my mouth in with a hammer, and was informed that there was nothing they could do to help with that unless I wanted to fork over another five thousand dollars to try jaw alignment surgery. I then went back to an actual dentist (who'd I'd last seen before moving to Southern California) and was informed that all of the fillings were very minor cavities he would never have advised operating on. Further, there were very obvious reasons for them to be hurting (mostly to do with them being shoddily and in-advisably applied) and plenty that could be done to try and fix them. Of course, fixing it costs more- which I have to pile on top of paying Thomson Center to wreck my mouth in the first place. Avoid these quacks if you value your teeth. I'd rate them lower if I could. read more

Dr. Thompson was incredible! My dad had a crown break on his back tooth. He lives in Carmel Valley (North County). He tried calling several dentists nearby and none were available to see him that day. A friend suggested trying Dr. Thompson's office. We called and were able to get an appointment within hours! The office is very conveniently located right off of Telegraph way. The building was beautiful and the space was huge. The office looked very clean and well decorated. It was inviting and made us feel comfortable. We were greeted warmly and brought back to the exam area right away. The assistant helped take all the necessary information and X-rays to make sure the tooth wasn't broken and there was no decay. Shortly after, Dr. Thompson came in and did a detailed examination. She went over everything including my fathers hygiene, diet, grinding, and other dental concerns she could see immediately. I was so impressed with her knowledge and the amount of time she spent talking with us. She explained why the crown had come off, discussed the treatment options, and allowed us to pick the best plan moving forward. We decided to put the crown back in place for now until further treatment plans can be followed. She thoroughly cleaned and prepared the tooth, cemented it on, and spent a considerable amount of time cleaning the area, checking his bite, and making sure it flossed well. She spent so much time with us and never rushed us. I was so impressed with her patience, consideration, and knowledge as a dentist. She made my dad feel extremely comfortable. We felt like she had my dad's best interests at heart and took great care of us. Making sure to listen to his concerns, help identify problems and give multiple solutions. It was a very rewarding dental experience. When we left, I asked my dad if he liked this office and he said he absolutely wants to go back there for his future care. The drive is worth it!
