Even though my wife suggested we hire a painter, I received two quotes that I thought were astronomical so I stubbornly refused to hire a painter and claimed I could paint the entire 2 bed/2 bath duplex myself in two weeks. After two days of prep work I realized, as usual, that my wife was right and I needed to find someone to paint the entire place in time for my move in 10 days time. And I needed them to start ASAP. Silly me first tried asking some friends for painter recommendations. After reaching out to their painters and not hearing back I got smart and turned to Yelp for help. And that's how I found Wade at ThompsonHoliday Painting. Unlike others in the painting industry Wade returned my email within a day, provided me with a quote to paint my guest bathroom and we set a day to do so just a few weeks later. All I needed to do was tell him what color Benajmin Moore paint, (by the way- you can check it out at ACE Hardware) we' d like to use for the bathroom and he'd purchase it for us at a discount. He also offered to use eco friendly paint products since I mentioned I was pregnant and had a little one at home. Wade showed up right on time and got to work. I ran out for a little leaving him alone in our condo, but didn't have any qualms about leaving someone I'd never met there. Even my dog who usually isn't such a fan of strangers didn't seem to mind having him there. It took him about 3 hours to paint our small bathroom and it was pretty much also dry by the time he left. The total came to a few hundred dollars (including the paint), which seemed reasonable based on my research. We recently had most of our 1200 sq foot condo repainted by Wade while we were on vacation. We appreciated that he came out in person to give a detailed quote so that we could feel comfortable everything would go smoothly while we were away. We felt confident that Wade would do a great job. When we got home we were blown away by how we really couldn't even tell he was ever there, obviously the walls were new colors, but he had done such a great job of rehanging our fixtures and cleaning things up. His attention to detail is top notch. We've been home for a week and haven't found one imperfection or spot of paint where it shouldn't be, etc. We especially appreciated that he made decisions for us that we hadn't provided instruction for. For example, our tv lives in a built in unit in our living room, so he took the initiative to patch up and paint over a cable outlet on the opposite wall. Little things like that go a long way. When I hired ThompsonHoliday, I wanted to make sure that I picked a high-value painter. I knew that I needed to pay very close attention to their prep-work as an indicator of attention to detail and overall quality of the job. What I learned was that Wade and Chris are very careful with their prep work, even going so far as to scrape old paint off of outlet covers. Wade is very good with drywall repair and was able to remove a very large mirror from my master bath without breaking the glass, which would have created a huge mess. The mirror was glued to the drywall and he painstakingly filled in each gash and hole leaving a pristine wall surface ready for painting. I was also very happy with Wade and Chris' efficiency. They painted my 3br condo in a little over two and half days. The only reason they didn't get a 5/5 was due to a couple of small things that weren't completely cleaned up. i.e. Light covers in the master bath. Overall, ThompsonHoliday was fast with a great value. I will recommend these guys to anyone who's looking to paint their home. read more

My non-profit dog rescue, One Tail at a Time, is in the process of opening a new Adoption Center in Bucktown. We reached out to local painters to see if anyone could help us by giving our Adoption Room a new paint job. If you want it perfect, hire them. The reasonable price makes the decision easy. Not only that, their professionalism makes them highly respectable as a business, and the friendliness of Wade, Scott and Daniel is icing on the cake. They were all really nice people! I can tell they really care about what they do, which is good because in my first time of hiring a professional painter, I wanted perfectly painted walls. They painted my living room/dining room, entryway, hallway, doors, trim, and a row of windows. They also handled smoothing out the walls and filling in any cracks or holes. Wade was able to see that my doors and trim had previously been painted in oil-based paint, which is important if you want to use a latex-based paint over it. The level of service with them is outstanding, and to be sure you are completely satisfied with the finished product, Wade follows up with you after you've had a day or so to look it over. They will come back to correct any imperfections. In my case, since everything was perfect, I declined the offer. They did such great work! I figure since I found out about ThompsonHoliday through yelp and all these very useful reviews, I should write one too. This review is seriously overdue! Wade and his team painted my condo last year and did an absolutely phenomenal job from start to finish. I am hopeless when it comes to all things design-related, and after buying a million paint samples and struggling to find the right color, I called Wade. He came over, took a look at my samples, and the only direction I really gave him was "this is too light, this is too dark..." I mean, who am I, Goldilocks? I trusted him to read my mind and select a color I would love and he did not let me down. His color selection was exactly what I had in mind but couldn't find and couldn't articulate, and his selection even earned the compliments of another professional recently, so kudos, Wade! And can I just say.... after months of putting off painting, it was amazing to leave for work and come home to a painted condo? It was like MAGIC. (Outsourcing for the win!) We wanted our bedroom to be a deep red painting and after failing at a DIY job, we decided it was time to hire a pro to finish the job. While we were at it, we figured might as well conquer the bathroom so that I don't have to cringe every time I walk into the "dill pickle green" room (not my choice, previous owner). I called ThompsonHoliday a week ago to get an estimate for painting my bedroom and bathroom. Wade got back to me very promptly (I think the next day) and provided me with a general estimate, but told me that he would have to visit to give a formal estimate. I really appreciated this so that I could (a) meet him before hiring him; and (b) know that what I was being quoted should be accurate. After seeing the rooms and finding out that I wanted to paint the room red, Wade told me the cost would be a little higher. I was expecting a little higher to mean a couple hundred more. Nope, he really meant a little higher (as in the $50 range). I really appreciated how realistic he was in his estimates. The final cost in the end was exactly what he proposed in the estimate. Wade came today to paint with an assistant. He told me he would arrive at 9am and no joke, my phone rang at 9:00 with him telling me he was downstairs. Very impressive! What's not to love about a contractor who respects his clients and can take pride in being true to his word? They laid out protective tarps, moved the furniture and got to work. By 5pm they had completely cleaned up and the job was 100% complete. The bathroom is beautiful. They discovered that I had some water damage on my wall, repaired the wall, and advised me what I would need to have done by a plumber or building maintenance. I really appreciated that. The bedroom is even more impressive. Wade used a more expensive paint (Aura by Benjamin Moore) which is self priming because I chose red. Not only is the coverage amazing, the painting is flawless. His lines are clean, straight, and perfect. He kept the molding and all of my timber ceiling beams completely free of paint. And he did it all in an 8 hour work day. I cannot say how impressed I am at Wade's efficiency and the quality of work. When I get sick of the paint in the rest of the condo I will definitely be giving ThompsonHoliday a call! read more

Wade is AWESOME. I've used him on two occasions, and couldn't be happier. The first situation, I needed my stairwell and skylights painted, and just didn't have the equipment or spidey skills to do it myself. In scheduling it, I worried about having to take time off of work to be there while he was doing the job, but he assured me most of his clients actually let him in then leave for work. I was a little uncertain about it, but he offered to have his insurance company send me his proof of insurance for peace of mind. I loved that he had them send it to me as opposed to just forwarding it to me himself. He was super responsive via email as we were figuring out a date and time, and his results were awesome. Second time, I just used him recently because we were putting our condo up for sale. We needed to make all the walls neutral, and wanted it done quickly and professionally. He allowed me to just send him pictures of the place (we were renting it out at the time so couldn't very easily provide access for a quote), quickly gave me a very accurate quote (didn't hem or haw about a price range because of photos, etc). Then he came and did the work at 6:30a on a Friday so that my tenant could get to work on time, and did an absolutely spectacular job. I can't recommend him any higher. Just a terrific painting company. I can't say enough great things! This is the second project i have had them come to paint. The first time I had my whole condo and this time around had Wade come back to do some relatively big touch ups. As always he was quick to respond, professional and so easy to work with.
