The real roast beef was seasoned well and tender. Fresh cut fries were like what you remember diner fries used to be. Best creamy slaw I've had in years. It's a small dining area which was handled with care from the waitress. I saw her offer dessert because she really wanted you to enjoy your visit. Homemade cakes and pies were less that $4 and you could make ala mode for $1. (Beat that Harrisburg prices of $8-$10 for desserts out of box. You could really tell regular patrons love their place. Thompson Town Corner Deli has some of the best home cooked food you will ever find!! They take cash only which is okay although I do wish they would take a card because a lot of people don't carry cash anymore. But once you've had their food you will not care either way you will bring cash! They have ice cream also and chocolate malts that taste like they were made back in the day!! They always have fresh desserts fresh pies and their vegetable beef soup is amazing!! I also love their homemade barbecue. I usually get my food to go because it's a small place with an old school bar like an old Diner from the 50s which is very cute and there are tables you can sit at as well and it's comfortable and quiet and cozy. read more

4 of us stopped here on a Sunday morning at 10:15. The morning crowd was still in there, so we couldn't get a table and sat at the counter. No problem. Each of us had something different for breakfast. (Breakfast is served all day). Everything was very good. Service was good. Next time I head out that way I am hoping to do it around lunch time because their french fries look like they are made just the way I like them. Do yourself a favor and check out this place if you're on 322 in the area. It's 30 seconds off the highway and has a decent amount of off-street parking. Plus, soft ice cream year 'round! read more

Stopped in today with my girlfriend and her parents to get lunch on the way to there home in Lancaster. I don't have a picture but I got the Italian sub. It was good for an Italian sub but I think it could have a little more Italian style meats. Like Peperoni or Capicola Ham or something along those lines. The sub came with pickles on the side (2 chips and 1 spear) and a side of potato chips. All in all a good sub for a small place that it is. I won't give it a 5 star because it's not the best, but you get what you pay for. read more

The Comments and ratings are misrepresentative of the true breakfast experience. The place was one of the few open in the early morning as we traveled 322 and needed breakfast. The fried potatoes were out of the can and greasy, the food had too much margarine and/or Pam cooking spray on it . Portions were large. The flies we had to swat away and the conversation going on between the employees and what seemed to be a "regular" were the icing on the cake as they discussed how drunks were peeing all over during some event and how the food tastes like butt at said event. Found an excellent restaurant just off 322. My husband and I have been searching for a restaurant with GOOD food to order our breakfast at for the last two years when driving 322. Two weeks ago we decided to 'give this place a try'. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and the friendly staff. Although small, everyone was friendly, including other diners. We were so impressed the first time that we stopped again yesterday. They are consistent with their food quality and the coffee. This is a top rate small restaurant. You can tell this is a locals only place. We walked in and got stared up and down. There is probably seating for about 20-30 people at most in this place. My family of 5 got sat at a table very close to another 2 seat table. This is a cash only restaurant. I had $80 in cash thinking it would be plenty for us. We ordered a cup of chicken soup, cheesesteak, chicken fingers/fries, patty melt, and some sodas. The fresh cut fries were very good. My husband enjoyed the patty melt. The rest of the items were not good. The cheesesteak was unusual because it was cooked as 3 thin strips of steak, not chopped up like usual. Very little meat and no flavor. The soup did not taste good and had an odd seasoning to it. The chicken strips were definitely not anything special, just typical freezer meal strips. The prices seemed on the high side, considering what we got for the money. Needless to say we used all $80 to pay for this meal (tip included). Waitress was a direct, no nonsense type, not friendly but not unfriendly either. read more

Fantastic food; great wait staff. Looks like a dilapidated hole in the wall, so we had *serious* doubts, but it smelled good and was clean (if very worn) inside. We both had the breaded haddock with green beans and Mom had the homemade French fries and I had the vinegary, slightly-sweet pepper slaw. All DELICIOUS and served quickly. Lemonade was good and the iced tea was Southern quality (and they offered "sweet" or "unsweet"! Awesome! Try the shoofly pie or the Yum Yum cake for dessert. This is a hidden gem, indeed. read more

What a hidden gem! Stopped here for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. Don't be discouraged by the look of the place. It is small but very clean. Our waitress was very friendly and service was quick even though the place was packed. Coffee was fresh and she made sure our cup was always full. The Mess (which is a scramble egg concoction with green peppers, mushrooms, potatoes, onions, and your choice of meat and cheese) was fantastic and there was plenty of it! My husband had a ham and cheese omelette and tried their sausage gravy, which apparently was a special that morning. All very good! We loved it so much we stopped there for ice cream on the way back from our trip. Highly recommend this place and I can't wait to go back the next time we're in the area! read more

The Thompsontown Corner Deli Restaurant is a hidden treasure! This morning I ordered The Mess, a concoction of ham, eggs, potatoes, green peppers, onions, and American cheese. It was delicious! And huge! My wife ordered hers with sausage and no green peppers. Bacon is yet another option. The Corner Muffin made with ham, sausage, or bacon on an English Muffin with egg and cheese is another outstanding breakfast choice! At lunch I had a cup of Cabbage and Sausage Soup. It was deliciously spicy! Their Fish Sandwich is a generous piece of halibut fried in a tasty batter, served on a bun with Tartar sauce. Delicious! I could go on and on. Let me just say that I drive over 35 miles to eat here. It's that good! read more

One of my favorite spots to eat!! When you go, if you like blue cheese, be sure to order the salad with blue cheese dressing. They also sell the blue cheese dressing, it is THAT good! Be sure to take some home! Also, if you like garlic, order the Garlic Salad! It is a favorite in our family! I usually get the mushroom swiss burger sans the bun, but last night I had the wing dings with BBQ sauce and they were delish! (They also have full-size dinners and specials, but I could never have eaten it all!) Came with two sides and I had to take the coleslaw home I was so full. Visited for first time on 2/21/2020. Had my usual, 2 eggs, bacon, toast, home fries and coffee. Food and service was great as expected for local small down diner/deli. Had looked online before coming to glance at prices, etc. I think it said $6.20 for my food and then $1.41 for coffee. I know sometimes menus online can be a bit outdated. Got my bill, it was $9.25 and $1.89 for coffee? It appears the home fries are a side for $2.25 extra. That has to be the answer, as price for that meal could not have went up from $6.20 to $9.25? To be fair, menu does say 2 eggs, bacon, toast for $6.20, doesn't mention home fries. So, not false advertisement, but I've never seen a diner of the 20+ I've been to in Central PA that doesn't include home fries in the typical breakfast I got. So, I guess my point is it ended up being $9.25 for my food, which is high for a small town diner in Central PA. Most places will be between $6-$8 max without the coffee. Just a bit odd to not have home fries included, and $9.25 is just too high. Will come back though. read more

Went there to get ice cream during the summer their service was great and fast. The flurries were very good. When they never got a flavor in the owner made it up to me. The owner is pretty nice. I would always come back to this place just for their ice cream. The only complaint is their chocolate ice cream was not as chocolate as it should have been.
