I've been going here with my family for a few years now and I've never had a bad experience until now. Our waitress seemed a little weird but I ignored it. She came to our table multiple times asking if we needed anything but it didn't feel like that was the reason. As we were in the middle of a conversation, she came back to our table and asked us to pass her the salt, pepper, sugar container so she could see if it needed to be refilled, as if that's something that needed to be done while we were trying to enjoy ourselves. We gave them to her and they were all full. She just wanted a reason to be annoying. Please teach your people to be respectful of your customers as I am not an employee and do not expect to be treated as such when I'm there. read more

On our way home from Hershey, we wanted to have some lunch at a local diner. I always like to start with the positives because I know it's a local business. We were seated pretty quickly, the waitress was nice and helpful, and I thought my mini cheeseburgers were good. They tasted like they were made on the grill which is always good. Now to the stuff that wasn't as good from my husband's and my perspective. The fries weren't too bad. The soup that my husband got was a bit odd and more like a cup of gravy with chicken and spinach. It was something like the creamy chicken and spinach soup. It didn't taste too bad but was a really thick consistency which more resembled gravy. My husband did not like his open faced roast beef sandwich. It was extremely dry and didn't taste good. The brown gravy on that was also an odd consistency and didn't help enough to make the roast beef edible. He had to primarily eat the fries and bread. It's a super old school diner. I've eaten here 3 times now and sure wish I could drag this whole diner, waitstaff and all, back to my little town in Missouri. Do NOT look at the dessert case when you walk in or you may ruin your delicious breakfast/lunch/dinner. Save that for after the meal. Everything I've had here is fantastic. And the good music they play in the background is another plus. I plan on eating here every day I'm in town if possible. So many things on their menu I want to try. Standard diner breakfast. The place is clean. The service was friendly. Also, they were entertaining as the group of servers stood at the counter and argued about something. I couldn't tell quite what but there were definitely sides: the old way vs. the new way and there was no secret which side anyone was on. Also, maybe a little residual animosity about how hard some are working compared to others was being outed. Like I said, entertaining and relatable. The food was perfectly fine. The city line pancakes were sweet with real fruit, not frozen and mushy. The sweet cream is delicious. The hash was salty but not too mush. The homefries lacked flavor. The city line breakfast had everything you need with lots of choice. The service was attentive and quick. We were seated right away on a Sunday morning. Delicious! I wanted to take my family from out of town to a real PA diner for brunch Sunday and this hit the spot! The food was great and the menu had a lot of variety. Everything from the kids grilled cheese to the crab Benedict and the baklava cheesecake was full of flavor. The waffles had plenty of cinnamon which was new for me. So I can't say anything about the food since we never actually received it. Went in around 11am with my family to eat breakfast after a busy morning. Ordered some coffees, and the kids got a milkshake. Coffees came with no issues. Milkshake took about 15 minutes to get there. Clearly this part of the order was forgotten about. While we waited for our food three separate tables that came in after us were seated, ordered, received their food, ate, and even got up and paid between us ordering and leaving. After waiting for 40 minutes and only seeing our waitress walk by ONCE in that timeframe we decided to leave. We had to ask a different waitress what was going on with our food, but we didn't hear anything else except the other waitress was "busy." When I went to the counter to pay for the drinks and leave the waitress came up to me telling me the food was now ready and was going to come out. Clearly again the order was forgotten about and the food never actually entered until we got the other waitress. When I explained the issue to the man at the counter I received nothing but attitude and was told "we're very busy." At this point I let him know that people had come in after us, had their food, and left since we ordered so how busy could it actually be. Again received nothing but attitude. read more

Stopped in with a girlfriend to meet for breakfast it was the first time for both of us attending, the City line diner, ambience of the place was nothing to brag about normal small place to dine. We placed our order with our server and the food arrived quite quickly to my surprise. My sandwich was not made correctly and when we tried to get the attention of our server who never came over to our table when we asked her for napkins, but once we did, we explained to her the situation with the sandwich and she picked my bun up with her bare hand and said I will take this back and fix it for you myself. I said no thank you. I would not like the same bun back. She said I'm gong to give you a new one at that point I made the decision to cancel the order. Stopped here for a late breakfast on a Wednesday. I would estimate the diner was at about 50%. There was no wait to be seated and the server immediately stopped by to ask what I'd like to drink. The coffee was fresh, the creamers were cold, and they even had Splenda. I ordered the corned beef hash with 2 eggs. This came with some toast and potatoes on the side. The food came out quickly and was cooked right. The server frequently came by to ask if I wanted a refill on my coffee. I really appreciate this gesture over the ones who just pour away. Second visit. First i counter sat since i was solo and the service was quick, server was very pleasant and the food was average. Not looking for great out of a diner so worked for something quick post church. 2nd visit i brought the wife for something quick. Put names in and told 10 minute wait. Stood in the cold entryway watching as folks - apparent friends of the owner came in and bypassed all of us waiting. Finally got our seats after having to go in and ask what was up. Waited another 15 for sever to take our order and another 35 for the food (we ordered an omelette and a sandwich). My boyfriend actually wanted to go to IHOP, but the line on a Saturday morning at 10 am was ridiculous so I told him we'd go find a great diner instead, as Harrisburg has many. So we hopped in the car and 2 miles later we were here. This was our first time here as we are both fairly new to the area. It's a very brightly lit, spacious diner. Not like some of the ones I've been too where you feel like you are crammed in next to other tables like sardines! They have booths, tables and counter seating. I'm glad we found this spot. Great food, great service and we were seated immediately. They have corned beef hash, which my guy was thrilled to see. They also have my fave--scrapple, although I didn't get any on this visit. My over-easy eggs were cooked perfectly as was the delicious country fried steak that came with an amazing sausage gravy. Coffee is very tasty as well. Prices are super reasonable and portion sizes are huge. We will definitely return! My only observation was that the gentleman, who looked like the manager(?) was not a very friendly, personable guy. He just didn't talk with patrons or greet anyone. I saw him walk over to a table that was just sat and give them silverware--reached over people, and didn't even say hello, excuse me...nothing. Although the food was good (and portions were large) and our waitress was great, I can only give this place one star. Why you ask? Well the manager took my grandmother's credit card when we paid our bill at the front counter and failed to return it to her! We didn't realize until we went to pay for gas on the turnpike an hour later and discovered we had the receipt from our meal but the card was missing. Naturally we called the restaurant to ask if they had it but were told the manager was out making deliveries and he would contact us when he returned to the diner. We never received a callback. So the food was decent but we had to cancel my grandmothers credit card because they never gave it back and don't return calls. Just not a good way to do business. read more

We have ordered take-out from City Line before, and it has always been good. Tonight was awful! We had a Monte Cristo sandwich and a Reuben. The meat on the Reuben was tough and fatty, and the sauer kraut had not been drained properly, so the sandwich was soggy. The Monte Cristo was open- face, which they've never done before. It was 2 slices of French Toast with one slice of ham and drowned in what was supposed to be Swiss cheese. The chips were just dumped on top, getting soggy from the cheese. Maybe they were just having an off night, but it will be quite a while before we order from City Line Diner again. read more

Very disappointed in what I ordered. Wanting comfort food, I ordered chicken pot pie a diner staple, that was dreadful. There was no pie but instead leather like clumps of chicken, soggy noodles and a thin tasteless broth. The cream of broccoli soup was decent but the coconut cream pie was made not with whipped cream but only, I suspect a cool whip or non dairy cream. Went to this restaurant on the way home from Hersheypark, and on the surface everything was fine. The food was good, the service was great. Toward the end of my daughter eating, we found a bug in her chocolate chip pancakes. I didn't think this is a big deal at the time, as it could've flown into her food, after the fact, or while it was being played it, and a busy restaurant, that's not that big of a deal. 122 people couldn't be wrong, right?!!! They weren't!!! Wife had the best French toast in over 15 years!!! My chicken fried steak was great! They didn't skip on the gravy and it was huge! I'd recommend topping them with onions as they don't have a ton of flavor otherwise. The French vanilla cappuccino is also yummy. They have options for people in Weight Watchers. City Line Diner is owned by the same individuals that own "Crave the Food" on Jonestown Road, but unlike Crave which attempts to use decor and higher prices to give the impression of an upscale, better quality restaurant, City Line Diner is honest about exactly what it is. It is a diner. The food quality between the two locations is pretty much identical, the difference at City Line is that the prices are reasonable. We came for brunch on a Sunday. The parking lot was full but it did not take us long to be seated or served. I ordered the blueberry pancake roll up, which is basically three fluffy pancakes folded over with a filling. The filling in this case was a canned blueberry pie filling, and it had whipped cream on top. The pancakes were light and fluffy, the portions were generous, and my bill with a soda was less than $9. Simple, fast service, good food, reasonable prices. That is exactly what I look for when I go to a diner. In addition to the fast service, this small Diner is well-lit and clean in appearance, the service is friendly, and our checks were accurate. Well I can't say this is my top pick for a Harrisburg Area Diner, it is still a solid offering if you are looking for a quick cheap bite to eat.
