Good selection, I think? New to fly fishing after inheriting a rod from my late father in law. Went to get fitted for a reel and ask questions about getting started but was met with as little help as humanly possible. Worst customer service. Would have spent a boat load more and would have been a repeat customer but left feeling uncomfortable and won't go back. read more

This is a review for the Fly Angler which is located in the Thorne Brothers store. I am not sure what the business relationship is between Thorne Brothers and the Fly Angler which occupies the western end of the building but it doesn't really matter. As you can see by looking at my photos I am a dedicated fly fisher (I release everything I catch). The Fly Angler is my go to fly shop in the Twin Cities although it is quite a distance from my house. They have a reasonably large selection of paraphernalia- Simms, Sage, Scientific Anglers, Fishpond, the usual suspects. They also sell flies and fly tying materials. The staff are friendly and helpful and if they don't have an item in stock they are happy to order it for you. The building itself is a little nondescript so you need to keep your eyes open or you will drive past it. read more

Thorne Brothers has moved from its old location to this new one. I reviewed the old one before the move and finally got to see the new store. When I walked in the door, I literally asked my husband if he was sure they moved. It looked the same to me, which in this case, is a total and complete compliment. Let me say for the record that I am not a big fisherwoman. In fact, I hardly ever fish. But my husband is an avid fisherman, so I have been in my fair share of fishing type retail stores. Here is what I can tell you: These people have like everything you could ever want to go fishing and they really really know their stuff. If you want stuff in addition to expertise, this is the place for you. They also make custom ice fishing rods, which my husband and all of his fishing buddies swear are the best. So take that for what you will. I will now quote liberally from my other review, since this new store is pretty much the same: "The store is covered from ceiling to floor with anything and everything a fisherman could need. At the risk of sounding stupid since I really don't fish, I will say that I saw plenty of materials for fly tying, lots and lots of jigs and lures, a ton of gear like leaders, bobbers and line. (If I made a terminology mistake in there, please be kind!) And I learned that Thorne Brothers is known throughout the fishing kingdom for its hand-crafted rods. I can see why. The guys who were manning the shop offered advice and information freely and clearly enjoy talking shop with other anglers. I felt a bit out of place but my hubby was right at home. Unlike so many retail experiences, this one was just about saturated with good information and good service. The guys were able to tell my husband about the different types of rods, the different materials used in each and the resulting changes to the feel and performance of said rods. Really very impressive overall. From a general retail standpoint, the store was clean, well-organized and comfortable to browse. It wasn't fancy, but fancy would have been out of place. Thumbs up. Placed an online order on Wednesday, never received any shipping confirmation. Friday rolls around and still no email regarding shipping so I checked my bank statement, was only charged for one of the two items that I ordered. Called and no one was able to help me determine which item was shipped. I made it clear to the person I spoke with that I needed to order the other item that was "out of stock" from another vendor but could not order because I didn't know which item was being shipped to me. The person I spoke with said the shipping dept will get back to me the first thing following business day. Waited the entire weekend, Monday morning no callback so I called them back. Spoke to the shipping guy, he told me that the jacket was out of stock, and the bibs was shipped and should arrive today. As I placing an order for the jacket thru another online vendor, the item arrives, it was the bibs and not the jacket. So I rmove the jacket from my cart and then go to add the bibs.....being 5 days later after this online vendor's sale started, these bibs are no longer available at either of the two online vendors that had them for the same sale price. I specifically ordered from this place due to all the positive reviews, which turned out to be a costly mistake. This has to be the most horrible e-commerce service I've ever experienced. This entire scenario could have been averted if they would have just sent an email letting me know that an item I ordered was out of stock and they will only be sending the item that was in stock. I would have been able to order from somewhere else for the same sale price. Thorne Bros also charges a 15% restocking fee on all non-defective returns. This is not disclosed on their website but is on the receipt. Had I known this, I would have stayed away in the first place. Don't get me wrong, the jacket is nice and I got it at a great price...but how they handle their e-commerce is the worst I've ever experienced. Don't do online sales if you cannot service your customers have in a timely matter. 1 star for the great jacket and price. Everything else pretty much sucked!! read more

I was given the name of this business that they had a great price on their Strike Master augers and i reached out last summer, then i emailed again, and again to let me know when they had this great sale and that I wanted an auger, a StrikeMaster 10" 40v ice auger. I have yet to have anyone contact me, so i found a website called FishUSA, and i bought my 10", 40v StrikeMaster ice auger from them. I paid $512, that was all that i paid, no additional for the tax, no additional for shipping, and i had been watching because they were given gifts, like a free fishing pole if you spent a certain amount, then they had a 10% coupon and that was what i chose, i saved an additional 10% on the already low price. With all of that, i still have not had anyone from Thorn contact me as to when their augers are for sale, but i guess the sale that I would have given them, was not that big of a deal, but if anyone else wants a great price on ice augers, check out the computation. read more
