Refinancing my co-op was not something I was expecting to do this year, but COVID-19 has turned everything upside down - so I went from making recreational travel plans to doing some hardcore adulting. Mortgage rates dropped significantly due to the pandemic - so when my broker reached out to me to see if I was interested in refinancing, I figured it was worth at least taking a look to see if it was worth it. Like my original mortgage, I went with Austin Stellato at Thoroughbred Mortgage. Austin was great - he was always available to answer my questions, was prompt to answer emails, and was great at keeping the entire process moving along. Refinancing during COVID-19 presented extra challenges - most people involved were working from home which made some processes a little tougher (especially in cases where my wet ink signature was required). Also, there were extra verification steps due to the uncertainty of the pandemic. Despite these challenges and the new way of working that we are all getting used to, the process was very smooth - and in the end I got a better rate. Buyer beware! This mortgage company was referred to me by my agent from Hoilihan Lawrence, I assume because Houlihan Lawrence is their parent company. The broker was very unprofessional and at times rude but I stuck with them because I saw in a hurry. My mortgage has been transferred twice since closing and I have received a notice of outstanding taxes. I have had to contact each mortgage company individually because they are not responsible for what was done before them. I recommend you stick with a local bank. read more

We started the process of purchasing our first home with another broker and it was extremely annoying and unpleasant. The mortgage rep we used was helpful in getting the loan processed fast, but the company uses Total Mortgage as their backend processing and will likely sell off the loan and you have no control over who they sell it to. It has been a nightmare trying to clear up the transfer of the funds and Total Mortgage's customer service is extremely unprofessional (hang up calls, sending someone else's confidential information in emails, etc). Definitely suggest looking elsewhere if you want to protect your mortgage and credit rating and have control over who services your loan. read more
