Udi was able to give me a rough quote over the phone and was able to come out the very next day to do the work. However, due to the complexity of the job and the materials needed, the price ended up being MUCH higher than the original rough estimate. Still, I was very pleased with the work. Udi kept in touch about his arrival time which was only slightly outside of the time window I had been given. He stayed until the job was complete - almost to 9pm. He counseled me against replacing the double-cylinder deadbolts (providing for safe egress during a fire or other emergency). He provided 6 duplicate keys even without me asking. This was a good contractor experience because of the ease and speed of scheduling and the diligence with which Udi approached the job. The price was breath-taking, but I can't complain about the work.

Mike did an amazing job repairing our leaky basement window! I reached out via email to show some…read morepictures of the damage. He replied back with an estimate and some times he could come out. He showed up on time, examined the window with me and laid out a plan for the repair. After working on it for a bit he brought me back down for an update: there was a lot more water damage than we expected. We made a new plan to replace more of the frame. There were a couple more surprises that kept expanding the job (more rotten wood, an old rats nest in the wall above the removed window, brick damage caused by the rotten beam bowing and not supporting the bricks above the window properly). The job ended up being a lot bigger and more expensive than expected (2.5 day job rather than 0.5 day; billing is by the hour and very straightforward), but I couldn't be happier with the work and the process. Rather than a quick patch job I ended up with a solid, long-term fix. Here are a few more reflections on working with Mike: -Great communication. Mike gave me frequent updates, walking me through what he found and what the options were. -I never felt like I was being upsold. Mike was very collaborative and empathetic when showing me problems and discussing solutions. -Mike's knowledge and skillset goes deep. If this had been a simple window sealant job with a frame board replacement I'm sure he (and probably lots of other handymen) would handle it great. But as we peeled back the onion and found more complexity it became clear how well he understands houses and how to make them work the way they're supposed to. I'm probably being paranoid since my home address wasn't anywhere near the thieves' action, but whatever. They got my keys, so I still wanted the locks changed. My first stop was True Value on 17th, because they're knowledgeable and I thought they might recommend a good locksmith. I could have just used Yelp, Angie's List, or Google, but I wanted a seasoned referral. Don't hate me, but I often think five-star reviews by themselves can be untrustworthy (although the low reviews can tell you a lot...). Anyway, they recommended this place, and I called. The first piece of good news was that he wanted to come that day. Seriously. He was ready to drop everything and be there by 6! But I had to go out that evening, so that wouldn't work, and besides, I was pretty sure the key thieves had no idea (yet) where I lived. They'd have to see me go home first, and I didn't go home on Friday after they hit my office. So I felt temporarily okay and made an appointment for first thing Monday morning. He showed up as scheduled, re-keyed two locks better than new, and went on his way. That plus the reasonable bill (not exactly cheap, but not a ripoff and no rush fee) would have been enough to get a good review, but what happened next is why I'm going to write three reviews: here, on Google, and on Facebook. I screwed up and forgot to have him re-key the back door lock. D'oh! How could I forget? He had checked it for something else, but I forgot to say "Please re-key this one, too." So, red-faced, I texted him later and asked him to come back. I fully expected to pay another fee. However, he came back out for free. I repeat. He. Came. Back. Out. For. Free. Okay, so now that bill went from "not exactly cheap" to "bargain."
