We were in the final phase of our extensive remodel when we realized our fireplace glass and box no longer matched the theme of our home plus it is 19 years so we stopped by Thousand Oaks Fireside and were greeted by Tom the owner. We went over our wish list with him on what we wanted our fireplace to look like and he guided us through the entire process. When we were ready he came over to our house to get measurements and to go over the final design. He ordered the new doors and frame and had them professional installed. He also arranged to have the installer clean out the box and paint it. He gave me a source for a new log set and now that everything is installed and it looks amazing. I have an older pre-fab fireplace whose glass doors long ago fell apart. I called Thousand Oaks Fireside and Design and they sent their tech to come and measure. He was on time and very professional. He told me it would take 2 weeks to manufacture the custom doors and get the new ceramic driftwood logs and gas parts. They called me two weeks later and said the parts were in and they came and did the installation. They were on time, completed the installation, and didn't leave a mess!! And the fireplace looks brand new and AMAZING!! I'm so impressed! They are honest, hard working and professional! read more

Writing this review on behalf of my mother who doesn't have a Yelp account: She (Asian) and my father (Hispanic) visited this business last week and did not have a great experience. They were the only people in the store but the sales associate, Tom, did not greet them nor speak to them until they approached him a few minutes after they arrived. While he answered their questions, he was not friendly or helpful with his answer. Multiple follow-up questions had to be asked since he would not go into detail with his responses. He recommended that my parents measure their existing fireplace and text him the details and he would provide a quote. My mom sent him the measurements that afternoon. She then followed up 24 hours later when she did not get a quote and mentioned that they did not feel they were being treated like potential customers. Tom stated that he had been very busy and did have the estimates but did not provide them. He then stated that they should go to the fireplace store down the street from him if she wanted a faster response. Although there were no overt examples of racism from Tom, from reading past reviews and the general unwelcoming feeling that my parents received, they will not be giving this business their money or recommendation. read more

To be fair, I didn't engage in a transaction with this company, but I did have a taste of what their customer service is like. I walked in with my wife (we are a younger couple) looking for a mantel for our fireplace. We walked by the desk area and were ignored completely. The two people working the desk did not even say "Hello" or offered us any assistance. We must have walked by 2 or 3 times obviously looking for something in particular, but completely ignored the whole time. We eventually found the mantels, and they looked decent, but we were completely irked by the sales staff. This place reeks of that elitist attitude that is obviously too good for my money. read more

I need some help with a fireplace design in my home and thought since the name of this establishment says "Design" that it might be a good place to try. Upon entering I immediately got a stuffy unfriendly vibe. I approached the desk, after taking a stroll through the store. (neither of the 2 individuals sitting at the desk approached me) I had pictures and explained that I wanted to design a modern fireplace surround which would include some metal. He told me that I needed someone who does sheet metal fabrication. Ok, since they are in the fireplace business I asked if they knew of someone. The salesman said "I don't ...the only person I know of who would is the owner but I know him and there is no money in it for him so he won't help you" Well guess what? I am redoing an entire back yard with fire pit, fireplace and BBQ. Will I ever return your store? Not in a million years. read more

My first interaction with Patty was great. I went in on a Saturday and greeted almost right away. After answering my questions, we set an appointment for the following Friday for Tom to come out and do measurements. Thinking about things over the weekend, had additional questions and went back on Monday. Downhill from there. Tom was the only one in the store and was already helping two other couples. Not a problem. When he did acknowledge me, there was no greeting, just "You have a question?" My response was that I could wait because I had several questions. NOT a problem to wait my turn. After my questions were answered, I decided not to do a custom glass door, but still order faux logs. So we cancelled Friday's appointment. I was missing a measurement, he said I could call him with it, and he'd get a quote. I went home got the measurement and called him back within 30 minutes of leaving the store. Tom never called me back. When I called on Friday to verify nothing had been ordered, Patty said he couldn't tell if it had been ordered or not and would have Tom call me back. I said if it hasn't been ordered I don't want it. Patty said "I'll have Tom call you regardless". Never heard from Tom. Not every customer or size of sale is important to Tom. read more

10 months after another company, Conejo Valley Fireplace, installed our new fireplace doors, one of the glass panels fell off (after using it maybe three times!). After much discussion, they were willing to repair it at a cost, to us, of $195, without even trying to figure out what went wrong. Since we were not willing to give them even MORE money for these doors, we called THOUSAND OAKS FIRESIDE AND DESIGN and were willing to pay them for the repair instead. Thousand Oaks Fireside and Design showed up and repaired the doors that were so poorly installed by someone else at no charge to us! Although they can't offer free repairs to everyone, we were so appreciative of their help. They will be our fireplace and bbq guys from now on! They understand customer service...even when it's not their customer! I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. read more

Not only was he able to help select a set of child-safe doors and help me with with his carpenter to build a custom mantle, he also recommended an excellent third party installer to work on the parts of the job they couldn't provide directly. It was great to be able to talk with someone who could recommend realistic design implementations to a novice while keeping true to the intent of the project. My new fireplace looks great. read more

These units are pretty high tech, and Tom knew excactly how to dismantle the product, was able to fix the problem and within minutes my unit was working like a charm again. I called to get a recommendation for someone to fix our gas fire place. Tom was kind enough to recommend a contractor he works with often, Superior Chimney, Inc. out of Tujunga, CA. The guy ,Ara, came out to look at our fireplace and say it's broken......that's why I called you out here. He said his minimum charge was $250 so he asked for $150 until we got the part. He was never to be seen or heard from again. So I would be cautious working with any contractor Tom recommends for his products. Find a full service provider. read more
