The local health food market is a quite majestic building; it's not far from the old downtown area. These characteristics are atypical of such stores (of which I have patronized many), which are usually in the sticks. I did find the prices high, if not unexpectedly so in most cases. I did find strange variation in sale items; some were substantial discounts, while in another case I saw a roughly $8 item "on sale" for twenty cents off, which seems bordering on a sort of unethical deception. The selection of produce was not huge but looked nice; this being Knoxville they had more meat than plants it seemed. Various natural and organic brands popped up. I always try to support the local businesses and I got a few things. This does seem to have a co-op structure so locals who really want to be in regularly might consider buying in. read more

This was sadly the only establishment that I visited in Knoxville on my way to the Smoky Mountains. Parking here was the only real challenge. Once inside, I was amazed at how wonderful and incredible this store was. Tons of healthy grocery items. A hot food / grab and go section as well as well. Staff here was very friendly, professional and helpful. The outdoor section was a great place to sit and indulge at. I'm not a member but they had a 3 for $5 Zevia energy drink deal! been a member for over 20 years...now they say no yearly dividends, which haven't been seen for years now....today an email from 3 rivers says they are taking away the monthly 10% discount as well. Really disappointed...what in the world has happened to this coop? new management....then the "vested" set up they had of paying $25 for 10 years gets NO OWNER dividends/monthly discounts....wake up people....don't fall for that..we did.....the information they give to you about the $25 payment for 10 years....saying they'll call you "co-owner" will get you nowhere with this current management. Huge fan of this Happy Holler staple. Has such a wide variety of vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, and straight from the local farm/vendor goods. The best part, the price is pretty competitive with grocery stores in the area. There is a hot/cold bar to grab lunch and sit in the indoor dining area or outside on their shaded patio. They also have a huge variety of grab-and-go pastas, wraps, salads, and sandwiches and a coffee bar with all the fixin's. The above is all awesome, but I head in here for the bulk items. Have a small amount of a rarely-used spice needed for a recipe? CHECK. Want to grind some fresh almond butter or coffee? GOTCHA COVERED. Dried fruits? YUP! (dried papaya are my family fave). Variety of healthy granolas, grains, and baking items in bulk, too. There is easy parking with their own little lot, friendly service, a discount membership program ($25 per year), and a punch card discount when you use reusable bags. AND, if you have a "whole building UV Light Filtration System that eliminates fungi, bacteria, germs, viruses (including SARS CoV-2) and other pathogens from your HVAC system." And the "air you breathe in Three Rivers is as clean as can be" what's the point of forcing people to wear masks? That makes ZERO sense, but alas, that is the world we're living in today. I had to leave a review just as a response to a nasty one I read here. First off, I live in Michigan and the prices here blew my mind how much cheaper they were for the same brands. Like $5.49 for a block of cheese I pay $9.99 for here. The person who left the bad review, clearly if you are comparing Kroger product to locally grown organic regenerative, this person obviously does not value or appreciate local agriculture. HIGH LOCAL FACTOR: It doesn't get any more local than this market which is a co-op supported by members of the community through a yearly membership (only $25 per year) and they have their own board that help run the place. Member perks give you various kinds of discounts and that deep satisfaction that you're helping the local food movement. This new location has great parking and is conveniently located on Central Avenue that's near interstate 275 and downtown. SELECTION: They have high quality, healthy options for you to choose from. I love just walking through the aisles to see what they have on their shelves. I like that they make a lot of products in-house such as hummus, guacamole, sushi, sandwiches (I like the tofurkey sandwiches), salads, etc. They also know some of the best local items to stock, including nearby Tomato Head's hummus, pesto, and bread. HOT BAR & SALAD BAR: Go here for a filling and nutritious meal filled with lots of fresh options. There are tables and chairs at the front of the store if you want to dine in. PRICE: As most things are organic and high quality, the prices are higher than you would find at area chain grocery stores. However, in my opinion it's worth the slight extra cost to know that you are supporting local products and business owners and that your food is coming from nearby places. This is not your regular super market. It reminds me of a mini Whole Foods. Besides the endless amount of organics they carry, there's also a huge selection for vegans and peeps with dietary restrictions. Being similar to Whole Foods, everything is on the pricer side. There is SO MUCH to rave about at Three Rivers Market: most importantly (so beginning there) the staff is without fail friendly and engaging and if you go there at all on a regular basis, they will learn your first name and use it, just like local places should do, you know? They have a wonderful selection of local produce, local meats, and carefully selected, extremely healthy options for most food and beverages. Their selection of local alcoholic beverages (no wine though) is quite extensive and always well-stocked and you can try a single of many options at very reasonable prices. They have a hot bar/salad bar as well (get there 30 minutes before closing for a substantial discount on that!) that's delightful, and they prepare easy to-go food items (like burritos, sandwiches, wings, eggs. . .) that are SO tasty. Their prices are generally lower than Whole Foods or similar options in Knoxville. Been going to Three Rivers since it was actually called the Co-Op. The location on Central is a vast improvement, and I tend to pop in almost any time I'm passing by. They have such a great array of locally sourced goods. I always end up leaving with a bag of Three Bears Coffee beans and Benton's Bacon. Outside of local products, they also have a massive amount of options on the healthier side. There are these chips that are harder to find, and they always have them in stock. The staff is always super helpful and courteous. Their lunch meals buffet is high in quality, though a bit pricey. read more

This is one of my favorite things about Knoxville and about the only place I've gone grocery shopping since I moved here. Slightly expensive but it literally takes me 5 minutes to get there from my house. Fresh produce and a good variety of grocery. Love the deli and the fact that they have Magpies Cupcakes and Tomatohead hummus. Not really a big fan of the food bar but I think that is because I always see flies hanging around the open food. I think Three Rivers will continue to do well despite the fact that multiple organic groceries stores operate in Knoxville (Earthfare, Trader Joes and Whole foods in the near future). I still have yet to make the drive to Trader Joes since it opened so I'm pretty sure that I'll be a faithful Three Rivers fan for a long, long time. read more

There's something awesome about walking into a grocery store and hearing the theme song from Cheers in your head. I find myself at Three Rivers Market several times a week. It is hands down the best grocery shopping you will find in Knoxville. It's a little neighborhood gem that thrives on local sustainability. The employees care about their community and actually take the time to get to know you on a first name basis. You will find an incredible bulk section ranging from seasonings and herbs, flours, pastas, nuts, etc. Buying in bulk allows you to purchase just what you need and it keeps the costs down. Local fruits and veggies. Milk and dairy from our local dairy farm, meats from farms just down the road. They have a great beer selection. The bread selection is supplied mostly from a handful of local bakeries. On top of all of that, they have a hot bar and salad bar that change daily. The best part is that you never have to read the labels to protect yourself from harmful ingredients. I love the integrity of the products that they sell. All the good, organic, hippie food you could want. It's expensive. They have a nice little buffet, a dining area, places to leave your dog outside with water bowls, and that community vibe I appreciate in these places. A couple of parking spots for plug-in cars. You can "round up" your bill to benefit their charity-of-the-week. The bulletin board has lots of announcements for bands, free couch, etc. It's always been very clean! I love this place! All the goodness of a Whole Foods or a Trader Joe's but with a local, hometown feel. I'm so glad this place exists. They have pretty much any local specialty you're looking for - from Cruze Farm milk, to local honey and preserves. They offer bulk ingredients, dry goods, and fresh local produce. The employees are always kind and knowledgeable, and the store has always been immaculately clean and organized. There is an area for bringing your dogs, bike parking, and parking for green/electric vehicles. They offer membership services and incentives for bringing your own reusable grocery bags. The hot food bar is a must, and offers an interchange of various hearty/earthy stews and buildable salad ingredients. There are a variety of vegan or vegetarian options - and I love being able to eat in the dining area before shopping. Shopping when I'm full also prevents me from making unnecessary purchases- ha! read more

My friend called in to make sure you don't need some sort of membership to shop here so folks like us driving by can purchase and taste the unique offerings around town. The co-op was much larger than I've seen anywhere. I liked the freshness and size of the greens they had. I'm surprised to see the good reviews here. Perhaps it was the time of the year but, most of the brands they had stocked were the same that you would see at Walmart. The only difference was the price tag. There was absolutely nothing that I saw worth going out of the way for. The vibe was nothing more than any run of the mill grocery store. The food bar was nothing special. There was little selection and, the greens were wilted. I had driven over an hour just to check this place out and, was surprised that not a single thing stood out as being special. Earth Fare is far from perfect but, so much better when it comes to selection, freshness and, over all vibe. A specialty health conscience, co op type market and, deli is very much needed in Eastern Tennessee. This place doesn't cut it. read more

So pleased to discover Knox has a local coop! I wish more college students were aware of this awesome little natural food store. They offer lots of organic and nongmo grocery items as well as personal hygiene and households/cleaning supplies. There's also a hot bar and salad bar which seemed to be using a lot of organic ingredients! They had a nice selection of vegan items...breaded tofu that looked like fried chicken :) I was on a mission for local/regional kombucha. I found some made in Asheville, NC so scooped a couple to try. More people support small and local businesses. Coops like this are great because you can request things and they actually listen! This store is fantastic! I was especially impressed with their large selection of vegan pastries and grab n go items. I noted vegan cookies, muffins, banana bread, cookie bars, salads, cooked veggies, mock tuna sandwiches, soup, tofurkey sandwiches, wraps, etc. We tried a double chocolate cookie, a cookie bar and the banana bread. All delicious! I mostly stopped in just to check it out since we were in the area. I didn't really need anything specific so I just browsed and checked the prices. When it comes to their vegan selection of snacks and frozen food, I would say that Earth Fare and Whole Foods have a better selection but higher prices. Their produce looked fresh and the prices were comparable to other stores. I saw that they post their daily hot food menu on Facebook so I will definitely keep an eye on that and come back for lunch! read more

Employee tried tell me that have store hours for those of us to schedule an appointment to shop. My schedule doesn't work for them. Employee was rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. Some good local products (Cruze milk) available here. The whole co-op model requires more research than the average shopper is likely to invest, although a friend of mine recently received a check for $3.80. She intends to blow it all at once in a bulk granola-related bender. If you've been having difficulty finding the right size ear candle to fit your Dumbo-like ears, check this place. They've got an assortment of ear candles like you wouldn't believe. I imagine they get all the ear candle traffic from people who used to have to drive to that place on top of Bearden Hill. At the risk of making this sound like a joke review, we really do like the Three Rivers Market. They're great about bulk food and letting you bring your own containers in to save on packaging waste. They've got some really cool beers available in the back. You can buy them one at a time and try a bunch of them. Because of this system, TRM is the first place I had beer made with kelp. It's what I imagine Davy Jones' sweat tastes like. Try it once - if you find yourself spending a lot of money there, maybe consider buying a share of the business. If you're there infrequently, just stop in for bulk staples every now and then. It's a cool place. read more

Cruze Dairy Farm milks, Aiden's Organic Ice Cream, craft beer, local meats and produce. Spice jar wall. All in an utterly gorgeous location, with moden architecture. This is not your moms cluttered co-op. You can buy in and get a membership, and with the payment plan, it's easy to do. You get a percentage off your purchases with the memebership. I'm here weekly for the Cruze milk, and they sometimes sell out. Recently though, they've been well stocked, and have been able to handle the demand. I also love the quality of the meat they carry, and the trout is a great choice in the fresh fish. Some cuts of meat are expensive, but since I eat less meat then most, the price is worth it to me, to get better flavor. I only purchase beef from here because of the quality. Kid Tips: Tiny carts by the front door, and Eco Stickers at the check out! We're nuts for the organic ice cream cones, waffle AND cup style! Party Tips: Cases of 16 oz PBR for sale. Very reasonably priced grill packs of real chicken. High Ball natural energy drinks in the front cooler. Natural gatorade style drinks in the drink isle. I can get my dehydration and rehydration down without a worry here. read more
