Earthfare in West Knoxville offers a great variety of organic produce, grass-fed meats and other food without artificial preservatives and sweeteners. It can be pricey, though, unless the products are on sale. NormalIy I would rate them much higher; however, today's visit left me wondering whether I should return. While the employee behind the meat and seafood counter provided helpful customer service, the other employees I encountered did not. One of the sale items that brought me in this day -- baguettes for 50 cents each. What a deal, I thought, as I later reasoned that the ad: "SAVE 50 cents each" -- meant the loaf did not cost a half dollar. As I walked through the bakery/deli aisle, I saw only one baguette in a large display basket. The price, $3.29 with 50 cents off if one also purchased a pound of chicken salad. The solo employee visible in the deli had his back to me as he was busy with a task. When I caught his attention, I asked him where I might find the baguettes. He said, "back there." i asked him if there were more. He said he didn't know and didn't offer to assist. As he returned to his task and with no eye contact, he added, "They must be sold out." I walked back to the lone baguette as another bakery/deli employee emerged. I asked her if it was on sale. She didn't know and instructed me to take it to checkout where the cashier would know. WRONG. He did know that customers would get 50 cents off if they also purchased chicken salad, so I brought up the ad on my phone displaying baguettes at 50 cents off with no chicken salad attached. Such a small issue, yet with a reputation as a top-notch store, one would think customers might encounter employees skilled in top-notch customer service and product knowledge. read more

I am happy to have EarthFare in West Knoxville. These days, there are not many true "health food / organic" stores. That concept is dominated by Whole Foods and/or incorporated within regular grocery stores. All that said, EarthFare is a unique place and very convenient for those of us in this part of town. I really like the unique assortment of items here. Great produce, bakery, meats, bulk nuts/snacks, and cheese. They also have some really good deals from time to time. Seriously, you can actually find a few bargains here. The prepared food is good too. But, the hot bar is inconsistent. Hard to know when they'll have food or if it'll be good. They could easily improve on this. Same with the yogurt selection -- it's pretty sparse. Overall: Good local/regional healthy grocery store. I recommend giving them a try. read more

This is such a great store! It's very clean and well organized. They have a great selection of organic produce, vegan items, as well as natural personal care items. They have a hot bar that always has one or two vegan items but it's very small compared to Whole Foods or Three Rivers. However, their amazing vegan muffins and cookies totally make up for that! Seriously, they have the best vegan chocolate chip cookies in town! Additionally, they have a good selection of vegan frozen food items that are hard to find outside of Whole Foods (including some things WF doesn't have). They carry some of my favorite vegan candy as well (try the Unreal crispy quinoa gems!) OK, yes, I buy lots of junk food here! Overall, it's a great store that I make a point to shop at once a month or more for speciality items. read more

For those of you who do not know that Earth Fare has reopened.....let me assure you that it is back in business!!! This is a great place to come if you love to buy bulk foods from the bins - they have a very large wonderful selection of everything you can think of! The bakery makes Challah bread fresh every friday morning, and I can tell you that it is amazing. Their deli is very good as well, and if you don't see something that you want, they are happy to make it if they have the supplies. I use to love their vegan curried chicken salad, which was not in the deli when I was there last week. So the guy told me that if I wanted to come back in a couple hours he would make it for me! Now that's service!! The employees are all so nice and helpful and eager to please. They carry a lot of really nice and unusual food items as well, which I really like. I was able to glean the store and come up with a very special & unusual charcuterie board. If you haven't been here before...or even lately......what are you waiting for!!!!! GO!!!! read more

I adore this store. Walking in is a breath of fresh, delicious air! Selection of cheeses is fantastic. Great variety of yogurt--from Greek to goat. Typically offer weekly specials on products that pertain to me...which is great. (Unlike Kroger and Walmart where the items I don't love are usually on sale.) I've been pleasantly surprised to even find competitive prices on a good selection of products that I would typically buy in a big box store. I can see how Earth Fare is a place people love, and I do admit that if I lived in Knoxville, I would likely frequent this place for many of my grocery needs. However, it is just like Whole Foods, which means it is essentially overpriced organic food. Of course, many of the products here are awesome, and not available at any regular grocery store. Not only that, but any place with bulk bins is alright in my book. I love Earthfare stores. Always plenty of parking, awesome products and food selections. Prices are a little high, but fairly reasonable for what you are getting. This location needs a little work. WiFi hasn't work in a long while. The lounge/seating/cafe area needs a good dusting. Some of the staff needs to work on their customer service smiles and attitude. read more

So I will never be coming back here again after the service I received. We came to order two slices of pizza and the guy at the counter was horrible rude and told us it was going tot ale 15 minutes for him to make a pizza and cook it.... it needed up taking 30 and the pizza was horribly burned and then we go to the salad bar and got the part chicken and it was so dry I had to throw it away and seconded the girl at the counter "Emily" I believe was her name was rude as well when I asked for help on getting pizza after we stood there for ten min she huffed at me. This place is so friendly, neat and cute! Pros: organic and fresh caught produce and meats and such. To me, organic fruits is a lot more fresh and flavorful than non organic ones. I am not 100% organic shopper, but there are some things I splurge such as apples and berries. Hot food bar is delicious, sandwiches freshly made are a bang for your buck, their pastries looks so pretty! The few things I come here for every year same time is their $5 lobster tails and $5 filet mignon that they offer around Valentine's Day. Because their lobsters are wild caught, they taste amazing without needing lots of seasoning. And $5 filet mignon??? There's no arguing with that. I also love to pop in for their juice and smoothies. All juice and smoothies are freshly made with plenty of good wholesome ingredients, none seem to be frozen every time I've been here. They cut all the fruits and veggies in front of you. There's happy hour from 2-5 so it's $1 off juice and smoothies! Cons: pricing can be high depending on what you get. They have a great pre-made food section, cold things like chicken and potato salads, as well as things you can warm up, like salmon fillets, chicken breasts, and pastas. They also have a little already warm cafe that does sandwiches, a salad bar, and a warm food cafeteria like bar for something like $8/lb. I picked up the potatoes au gratin (extremely rich, but tasty), pot roast (nice, a little dry), and veggies (glad to see they still had a little bite, not overly soggy like most cafeterias.) read more

The hot bar at Earthfare grocery needed to be added to the restaurant listings for VEGANS although they do also offer meat and cheese dishes - so if you're a mixed couple (half vegan) then you'll both be happy! They also have a beautiful salad bar - just sayin'. The only reason I could not give it 5 stars is that it's not really a bonafide restaurant with a nice ambiance. But they do have a designated indoor dining area with real (not disposable) cups, ice and free drinking water, plastic ware, condiments, a toaster, toaster oven and microwave; as well as a nice outdoor patio. The vegan options today were many and varied! The grilled tofu cubes with peppers and onions was really tasty; lightly steamed green beans with sunflower seed were crisp and fresh; warm quinoa side and a delicious chickpea side made a lovely combo. Since it's fall, they have a pumpkin bread slices with crispy edges and powdered sugar on top - divine! (Not sure if it was vegan but I can hope.) I would not be disappointed in this location as a first-meet dining option. There are plenty of people around so I would feel safe and there are so many options most anyone would be happy. And, it's not too sexy - just in case you're not really "feelin it" with your new friend; you can just say "bye" & go grocery shopping (lol). Also, it's not too pricey and there is no one to tip, in case you're on a tight budget. It's also a great location for families - kids welcome. Freshness you can smell-see-taste. Finally I walk into a store where I can find vivid GREEN vegetables. From fresh vegetables and fruits, to poultry/fish, and takeouts they have it all. The items are pricey, but you get what you pay for. However, I did come across items that were significantly marked up (you can find some of their facial scrubs, body wash, etc. at target across the street-and a bigger bottle too for 4-5$ cheaper). It might not be the best idea to shop here for these items, but I will return for the vegetables and meat again! read more

I had a couple of minutes to kill before devouring some Indian food next door. Figured I would take a little stroll in Earth Fare. This is a nice store! everything is neat and orderly. The staff were very friendly and engaging as well. They have a huge craft beer selection which is nice to see. The gourmet cheeses and coffees and chocolates were all top notch. Prices are little high for what you get. Though I did see some Clif bars that were rather inexpensive. They were $6 for a box of six, which is a pretty good deal. This place is OK! They have a nice selection of meats and produce and all sorts of other things. We can usually get hard to find items here too. The only problems we have are the prices are on the high to very high side and the employees leave a lot to be desired!! Most ignore you completely or have no clue at all...there are a very few that actually know what they are talking about and some will even berate you for not living "their" type of life style...the all natural/earth saving/organic type of life style. When we go in there we try as hard as possible to not have to deal with the employees and the cashiers...they seem to be angry at the world most of the time...some never even smile or speak...not even a Thank You!
