Had a bad experience here and would NEVER recommend it to anyone. I was on vacation in Palm Springs…read moreand wanted to take a pilates class close to my hotel. I found this place and walked in to inquire about the Yelp promo I had seen offering 1 free session. As soon as I walked in, I could sense attitude coming from the owner Johnny, especially after asking about the Yelp promo WHICH IS LISTED HERE ON HIS YELP PAGE. He told me to come back for one of the afternoon classes, then immediately took it back and told me that the class was cancelled and to come for a different class that would start in 15 minutes. I already felt the negativity in his voice and was hesitant but decided to let it go and give it a try. The pilates class itself was not bad and that is the only reason I am even giving it a star at all. But still, Johnny was being very cold toward me and was only acting that way toward me, and not to the other attendees. There was even another person in the class who was there for the first time, yet Johnny was nice and helpful to him but not treating me with that same kindness. Immediately after the class, Johnny loudly says to me in front of the everyone, "How are you going to pay me?". I reminded him of the Yelp promo we had discussed earlier and he snarkily said "OK so do that then." Then while collecting payment from the other first timer, he sarcastically said "I love you. This is so nice" to the man, while holding up his credit card. I knew that was directed toward me because he was upset that I wanted to use the free session coupon. I felt so disrespected that I just ended up walking away after that. I have NEVER experienced such disrespect at any Pilates studio I had been to before, and I've gone to many. I was being very respectful and nice, even though I was being treated the exact opposite. He shouldn't be including a free session promo on his Yelp page if he doesn't want people to ask about it. I would think twice before coming here, especially if you are just visiting. Places like this will never earn my business again and I will make sure to warn all of my friends and family visiting Palm Springs. I also noticed later that all of his Yelp reviews are from years ago and that should have already been a red flag to me.

California Civil Code 1812.85(b)(1) "...To cancel this agreement, mail, email, or deliver a signed and dated notice that states that you, the buyer, are canceling this agreement, or words of similar effect. I have sustained a massive injury. I have constant pain and a spinal fluid leak and can no longer do any kind of physical activity. I have been trying to cancel since the end of March. The gym manager demanded I come in person, or mail a letter along with my medical documents as proof in order to receive a refund or to process my cancellation. I have tried informing them over the phone that what they are doing is illegal. I do not have the ability to come in person or go to the post office. They should have accepted the hand delivered letter my father tried to deliver. They don't care. They refuse to process my cancellation continuously. There are multiple accounts of them doing this to other customers online. This can't continue.

Use to really enjoy this gym but its not what it use to be…read more Firstly, they almost always have a busted machine or something out of order. Stair stepper never works, neither of the ellipticals worked last time, only one out of 3 treadmills works properly. The other 2 don't incline. Maybe you should invest in new equipment? I come in with a day pass when we are in town and have noticed for the past year at least that the tile is coming up on the carpet in the weight room. Are you ever going to fix it??? Or are you going to wait til someone trips over it with weights and gets seriously injured? I Will never come back here and am shocked they still have members when they're obviously not getting their money worth with working equipment and a safe workout room.

And its only $10.00 for a day pass! If you need a gym for a few days to work out at and are coming from out of town I would definitely choose this place. Or if I lived here in Big Bear this is where I would join! Their rates are very good here. They have everything you need except for a legit free weight bench press. But they do have two squat racks you can easily convert into a bench since they do have a good amount of flat bench dumbbell benches. Good amount of cable machines. WHAT MAKES THIS GYM TOTALLY LEGIT AND SUPER COOL: The Aerobics Room. However I wouldn't call it that since it sounds too 1980's Richard Simmons like. But rather the room of Pain and Gain because thats what this room is all about if its used correctly. This room is a gold mine. I used to train with Jake Shields and Gil Melendez at Fairtex for 8 years and this is all these MMA fighters used to do: Battle Ropes, Tires, Kettle Bell exercises, Heavy Bag Muy Thai, Core Strengthening, Jump HIIT training, etc.. Its ALL about HIIT training. Although its good for you, you won't get shredded doing moderate steady cardio. You gotta do HIIT. If I lived here I would be in this room 6 days a week. Even where I work out at in OC at Golds Gym and 24 Hour Fitness we don't have a room like this. Forget the treadmills! Get in this room! 8 one-minute rounds of battle ropes hard core all out as hard as you can (30 seconds rest between rounds) is better than one hour steady state on the treadmill. And those monkey bars. My upper body was on fire after doing a few rounds of that!

I have been to many studios and have worked with many teachers. I love Big Bear Pilates and Siri D. First of all Big Bear Pilates is the best studio I have ever worked in. Bright, open, and with a terrific selection of top quality equipment. Siri D deserves credit for having the cleanest studio I have ever seen. . I love it!! Siri is a terrific teacher. She is very knowledgeable about Pilates. Something that I find very unique about her is that she has an instinct for how hard to push you in a workout. My biggest objection to other teachers has been that their workouts were either too easy or too hard. Siri pays attention, and pushes you as hard as you need to go at that moment, as opposed to running you through a generic series of exercises. A great Pilates Studio!!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my awful experience…read more I've been going to Pilates reformer classes since I was 13 (I'm now 34) and have NEVER had this experience. Firstly, before class began, I informed the owner and instructor about my existing sore ankles after a recent fall (in writing in their intake forms as well as verbally). The instructor, Vil, secondly did not lead us through a foot and ankle warm up as is traditional to Pilates reformer. He STARTED the class with jump board, which is a maniacal decision for any reformer class setting. That should have been my cue to leave. Class began, and I then had to ask Vil to repeatedly avoid the sore ankle areas when giving his style of "adjustments and corrections" that were continuous, unwarranted, too invasive for a 1st class meeting, and I was the only non-staff taking part in the class- receiving all of the brunt of his "style" of corrections. I believe Vil chose to take out some "empty studio summertime boredom" on my body and did not stop twisting and forcing placements on my body the whole time. I nervously went along with as much as I could stand until it became too painful and uncomfortable. The non-stop adjustments I received were given without consistent consent language, and were given with an extremely heavy hand. It was painful, over the top, and abrasive to say the least- Causing my nervous system to go into fight/flight mode. Not AT ALL Pilates etiquette. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TOUCHED SO AGGRESSIVELY IN PILATES EVER. I repeatedly asked him to stop touching my ankles once he started in on them. I first brought it to his attention by saying "please mind my ankles", after he had grabbed and adjusted them into a position he could have described with words instead of touching me. Moments later he readjusted my ankles with excessive force again and I said "hey, please remember, my ankles". The studio owner then acknowledged my concern with a wince and an apology, and we continued on with the class. He did it again with the same force and I said "if you touch me like that one more time, we're going to have a problem". He said sorry, then moments later DID IT AGAIN and abrasively grabbed my ankles and twisted them into a position. I flew off of the reformer and backed away, horrified by the experience and confused at how he could not and would not hear my requests, then demands to stop hurting my ankles. He used non-Pilates etiquette from start to finish. Throughout the class, he also made degrading and insulting remarks about my body including remarks about "being too young to have a double chin", "not looking like a ballerina anymore", and was overall abrasive in his tone with me making comments like that of a wanna-be ballet director talking down to a dancer- not a Pilates instructor coaching a paying customer through a normal class. The instructor, upon hearing of my ballet background, chose to run the almost private class in the "old school" way that the owner and instructor later stated was totally OK to do despite me voicing clear discomfort/concern, while being alone in the studio with them. Very uncomfortable. The owner witnessed and acknowledged the instructor's conduct, yet instead of taking my concerns seriously, attempted to offer me complimentary sessions, minimized the seriousness of what had occurred, and dismissed my concerns about the instructor's behavior and lack of professionalism. Both stated that the instructor is just "old school" and there was nothing wrong with that. Well, I'm a "new school" 34 year old psychotherapist who doesn't tolerate disrespect, comments about bodies, aggressive touching, and consent being ignored while being hurt in a class I'm paying for. No one should leave a class feeling humiliated, dismissed, and unsafe. The way this situation was handled was deeply concerning, and I have reported the incident. The owner doubled down on her support of the instructor's egregious conduct: it is clear she is perfectly OK with instructors at her studio being forceful, abrasive, and not using Pilates etiquette. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this business to anyone.
