Meh. I'm starting to lose my joy for Thrift Town, and well, almost for all thrift stores in general. Why are we going to mark the price up so much for used, holey jeans that someone else was done with anyways? Some of their blouses and pants run up to $20-$25 and that's just outrageous to me; I don't care if it's Gap or "whatever brand" (okay - unless it's like a crazily expensive designer, then that's reasonable). For a few bucks more on a sale, we can go to the store itself and buy brand new clothes. And this isn't just a problem with Thrift Town. It's Goodwill, Savers, you name it. I'm just reminiscing the good ol' days when I was in middle school and replenished my wardrobe with temporary additions all for $20, legitimately. Mackelmore needs to update his song to: "$50 in my pocket"! Since I obviously can't change inflation and the way used items have just been going through the roof, I'll reflect on the positives of the place instead. Oh wait, I'm sorry, let me get onnnne more thing off of my chest. What is up with the fact that whatever "color of the day" the tag is (blue, yellow, white, pink, etc, they pick a color and any item with that color tag is 50% off) is basically no where to be found on any items. I have a running bet going with a friend that before they open they have their employees run around and take 5-10 items each off of the floor that has that specific color tag. Either that or I'm losing my mind. I'll find tons and tons of blues and pinks and then the day it's blue and pink, everything is white. Anyone care to explain? Random coincidence? Okay okay okay, moving onto the cool stuff. I love that Thrift Town does have a lot of holiday sales where all clothes are 50% off, or all home goods, or whatever they decide. Memorial Day is a great day to go! I stocked up on some serious goods that day. Also, the rewards club is nice. I think they call it the VIP club. You sign up for that and it entitles you to $5 off of a purchase of $15 after you accumulate 100 points. That's a nice kick back. And all you have to keep a hold of is your phone number... no special cards to carry around and lose and forget to swipe. Just tell them at the check out and you're solid. All in all, Thrift Town is one of the better thrift stores, and I'm grateful to have it in town! read more

I recall when I could walk into a thrift store and expect to find some sort of treasure every time I dug through the piles of other people's rubbish... but I fear that those days are a thing of the past. Perhaps people today are less inclined to toss their high quality goods to the masses but it has been a long time since I've found a thrift store that delivers the way I remember. Thrift Town is no different. I'll concede that the layout is slightly more appealing than Goodwill or Salvation Army but there is very little difference in the quality or amount of stuff you'll find here. You think you're going to find a nice used Hugo Boss blazer buried beneath the other polyester rags? Dream on. I wouldn't have such a problem with this if prices were reflective of the quality of stuff you are finding. However, how do you justify paying $9 for a button-down dress shirt when you can go to Kohls and find the exact same one brand new for only a dollar or two more? To me this doesn't add up. There is no thrift to be found in thrift stores any more. Of the areas I perused, only the picture frames section had more than you'd find in other stores and those weren't especially cheap or good quality. The men's clothing was expensive and in poor condition, but the saddest section was the books which may have had a decent selection but wasn't organized at all so it made searching for a good read nearly impossible. Book prices were fair but you'd have to spend 2 hours straining your eyes to find something that interests you. read more

I am a sucker for thrift stores and was excited to visit this Thrift Town after reading the yelp reviews. I think I had a somewhat different experience from the reviews and here's why: I came here for clothes - not books. Although the book selection looked huge...the clothing section could have been better. I was disappointed for several reasons: 1) Most importantly the selection. All the clothes was either in poor condition or in poor style. I know...it's a thrift store in Albuquerque but come on!!! I was hoping to find some treasures here but was only able to find one or two. 2) The prices. WTF?? Where do they get off pricing certain items the way they do??? I have no idea what their pricing system is because some things that should have been priced up weren't and some that were worth nothing were priced up. I'm confused... I am also biased because one of my favorite thrift stores ever is the Thrift Town in San Francisco. I know that it has a bigger selection of items coming through solely based on its location and population size but the items there are priced fairly in my opinion. I didn't find better thrift stores in Albuquerque so if I 'm ever back in town I'll most likely stop by here. Thrift Town is the awesomest. They are huge, and new stuff comes in all day every day. The woman in line behind me had been here three times this week! Their older stuff goes on sale after a few weeks - 30%, 50%, or 80% off the already great thrift store prices. (Based on color coding of price tags) Their stuff is clean and good quality. It's priced reasonably (it's not dinged up things at the same price or MORE than what you'd pay for brand new at Walmart). They also have a frequent shopper VIP rewards program, where you earn additional savings based on points. They are switching over to an electronic pricing system right now, and some prices are being adjusted in the process. I took a bag up to the register this morning with a $3 "bag" price tag on it. I didn't realize it also had a $7 "purse" price tag. They were VERY nice about giving me the lower of the two marked prices. Thrift Town is not a charity itself. It collects for ARC behind the retail store, and they contribute to various organizations by buying in bulk their donations they gather at donation bins around town. The charity earns the money from the donation without having to bear the cost of running its own retail store. A nice partnership! read more

For some reason I always have really poor luck with clothes here. Not bad quality, but kind of boring selection style-wise. A lot of conservative stuff from the 80s and 90s, not much out of the ordinary. If you're looking for slightly more youthful/stylish items you might be better off at Savers or even Goodwill. On the other hand, the store is very organized and they often have good quality kitchen items and furniture. Usually several pianos and large bedroom pieces in stock. There is also a large selection of shoes which are a little more stylish than the clothes. Pricing is a little bit random, with many clothing items in the $15-20 range, but different colored sale tags are 50% off every day, so you can score stuff for cheaper than usual. read more

I really like this store being new to Albuquerque I love this place compared to the goodwill. I thought this place was way better laid out I loved how the clothing were by size made shopping way more enjoyable I will be back. The prices were way better then the goodwill I will be coming back weekly. read more

Went here searching for fall outfits. There were a good amount of clothes to choose from. I usually go to thrift stores for clothing, not any house ware or other goods. I did look to see if they had a toaster- they did not. The one star is deducted because of location and appearance. read more

Good Clean Fun! This place is surprisingly well organized and great for finding select items. Once you get past the smell of any thrift store you will be rewarded with the jewels they sometimes have to offer. Tons of shoes and kitchen stuff. This is my second time here but last one was about 4 yrs ago This store is well laid out, tidy and organized I like that they had certain colored tags off 50 or 80% off! I went here with my boyfriend looking for a new table/desk, and being the thrifter I am, shopped a bit. It was very crowded, especially considering the next two days had sales going on (it was labor day weekend). In terms of women's clothing, the quantity was higher than the quality, but what I did find had lower-than-average thrift store prices. Sometimes Salvation Army and Goodwill will have prices higher than Kohl's! I glanced over at the men's , and it seemed like there was more of a selection than most thrift stores. Lots of appliances and home goods, and the furniture varied. I would definitely check back here again, because it is usually hit-or-miss with these places, and I don't mind looking. After all, the facility was clean, and there were lots of dressing rooms! read more

In viewing other reviews for Thrift Town here on Yelp, I come to realize I've been spoiled. I know of many better thrift stores, but I've only found TWO that are better, here in Albuquerque. I can't say I'm thrilled by a store that charges $25 for a dusty, dirty, vacuum cleaner with both missing parts and broken parts, that doesn't have a whole lot of suction, and "tests okay." This is garbage. This is a particularly bad deal when I consider that my last vacuum was the same model name, albeit probably a couple years different (newer or older? I can't say) -- my prior one was a refurbished one, in clean, unnoticeably used, like-new condition, and ran me $20. You're more likely to find quality items being given away for free on the internet, than find them for reasonable prices at Thrift Town. I'm used to thrift stores that charge reasonable prices to people who can't afford new items, because these stores have things donated to them for free. This store does not appear to be an antique retailer, but for whatever reason, they tend to generally overprice their items like antique shops do. I've also looked at housewares and bedding at Thrift Town, and in neither case have I seen much in the way of reasonable prices. Who wants to pay $12 for a scratched up Teflon pan that's rumored to cause cancer? Gee, that's a steal of a price for cancer, guys! On the plus side, this store is huge, so if you need something in a pinch, you're not too picky, and prefer one-stop shopping and paying new prices for used items, it's a good stop. read more

Large, busy, and lots of junk. I don't know why Thrift Town wins a bunch of awards. They were certainly the biggest store I went to, but the home goods and furniture items were not good quality for the most part. My good friend and her kids came into town from Arizona and her son is really into vintage clothes so wanted to hit up thrift stores in town. After a Yelp search found this place and we were very surprised and impressed with the amount of clothes at this location. On the day we went they were having 50% off on all pink tags which is a great deal on already great prices. Her son found a ton of stuff and I was even able to find some cute deals. Wonderful customer service and the items are neatly organized. I bought an overall dress for $5.99 and a pair of Wolky clogs for $2.99. Overall, you can get a few nice items for under $10. They have brand items, if you like to shop for those sorts of things. Will come back for sure! read more

My favorite thrift store of all thrift stores, because they have a wide selection of things, and the organization of the place is good. Since, I love to reuse items, especially clothes, I come here every other month or so. I even came across this great pair of shoes once, for $12. Plus, their men's jeans range about $1.50-$20, depending on what they think it should be worth. It's all donated, so I don't see why they have to charge so much, but I guess their have their reasons. They also have a good selection of sports/exercise things. I once bought my daughter her first pair of quad roller skates, for 6 bucks and she loved them, plus she was only 3 at the time and didn't care about the look. What I like about their kitchen section is that they have the glassware separated by color, reds with reds, greens with greens, clear with clear, etc. I have been a fan of this place since I moved here and I'll continue to be back again and again. They also have 50% off discounts daily, by color of price tags, and they offer coupons regularly for everything else, as well as their clothing sales and shoe sales. Come check them out. read more

Who has two thumbs and is Thrift Town's biggest fan? This guy. This place is the absolute best! I love to bring friends here and have treasure hunts for cool stuff; whether I go alone or with other people, it's hard for me to walk out without finding something that I love. Yesterday, I went in looking for a receiver for my turntable, and left with a brand new stereo for $25 (literally brand new--I think it had just been taken out of the box and never used). There's something for everybody here--antiques, clothes, furniture, you name it. They have a ton of awesome books, VHS tapes, DVDs, and any other type of media you can think of. I could list all of the awesome stuff I've gotten from here, but neither of us have time for that, so I'll spare you and you can just take my word for it. Their prices are great, and if that weren't enough, every week a portion of the merchandise is half-price, depending on the color of its tag. The staff there is friendly, kind, and always helpful. I love them and I want to bring them home and serve them tea from the silver tea set I scored from their store. I've only ever had one problem, a few months ago, when I bought this rad blue and gold vintage-y lamp. It said it had been tested and that it worked, but when I brought it home, it actually didn't. But not to worry--it was a quick fix after a trip to the hardware store, and now my house remains the best decorated place on the block. Now that I know where the power outlets are in the store, it's easier for me to verify for myself--not that I've had any problems since. 80 gold stars for Thrift Town! read more

This thrift store is one of a kind! It is very clean, well organized and the merchandise is easy to look through. The prices are excellent and I have found some really fantastic deals at this place. They have a great selection of books, which are actually organized into subjects. Most other thrift stores I have frequented, the book section is very disorganzied and difficult to look through. Thrift Town has a VIP program where you earn points for all your purchases and they send you emails with coupons that offer great savings. This has become a favorite date night activity for my husband and I, finding great deals at our local thrift store! read more

Thrift Town is an okay shop, though I rarely find anything I like. Many of the clothes are dirtier here compared to other thrift stores and touching them leave your hands feeling some sort of way. I recently went into the store and found a beautiful MK long jacket for $5.98. Great deal. Some of their other jackets are priced high for the condition they are in. ($15 +) The checkout is the worst part of the trip for me. The customer service isn't that great. Some of the employees are better than others but overall, disappointing. Trying to find something of quality was difficult. Many well worn assortments of clothing and shoes. A city person came in that was loud and muttering. The sales person was very respectful to him despite his behavior. I felt uncomfortable when he stood close to me muttering angrily. I will concur with the last reviewer, it's hard to find places quite like this where I live in the east. It's huge, pretty damn neat and organized, has lots of 50% sales and items... It's not exactly hip, but it's a fun place to come scour for an hour or two for some super deals on interesting items. I enjoy that experience way beyond visiting over-priced, pre-curated thrift/"vintage" stores in Brooklyn where I live now. Love to shop here. The atmosphere is a little crazy but we have good luck finding things. I am able to get a lot of work clothes and have even found a brand new sewing machine. Lots of variety and the better clothing is where it is at. read more

Thrift Town is my favorite thrift store here in Albuquerque, I always find the best items from books, clothes, kitchenware , movies, electronics, the list goes on! This place always gets busy but the staff will always find the time for their customers. I will sure miss this place when I move back to California.
