First of all, the only reason why I'm giving Thrifty Car Rental (Midland Airport location) one star is because there is not a .5 or less star to give. The .5 is only being given because the agent who rented the car to us was friendly and professional. But that was the best part of our experience.
My husband rented an Infinite Q50 from them and we thought we were getting a great deal, especially since we hadn't made a reservation and that was the only car they had left. A day after we had the car, we smelled gas. The scent was so strong that we had to drive with the windows down in 37 degree weather. Our clothing smelled of gas after having been in the car only a few minutes. After further inspection, we realized that there was gas leaking from the car. So, we call the agency to have them tow the car and give us another--or so we thought. Instead, the agent tells us that we have to call the police and a HAZMAT team to come secure the area and get a police report of the incident. We proceed to explain that the gas leak is equivalent to that of an oil leak from any other vehicle. But, she persists in telling us that this is their policy. We couldn't believe what we were hearing and asked to speak to the supervisor. The supervisor then confirms that this, in fact is their COMPLETELY ASININE policy (HOW RIDICULOUS!!!!):). So, we call the police to come to our hotel to inspect the gas smell and leak from our rental car. The officer is in almost as much amazement over this ludicrous situation as we are. They then agree to send AAA out the tow truck to pick up our car and leave us another one. Three hours later, we are still waiting on the tow truck and another vehicle.
The plans that we had for the day have been shot and we have wasted the majority of the day waiting on them to fix a situation that should have taken an hour at the most.
It goes without saying, that while we are sitting here still waiting for the tow truck, we would not ever recommend that anyone use this rental agency. I will be sending this correspondence to their corporate office as well as posting this to my Facebook page in the hopes of sparing others this horrific experience. read more
