What a HORRIBLE experience! I booked a reservation on the the Dollar.com website for a base rate of $14.57. The check in process is incredibly slow! When it became my turn, as the counter agent was processing my reservation, she immediately asked "basic or extended coverage?" I was shocked and said how about NO coverage! I then got my estimated bill, and my $14.57 ($19.40 with taxes) bill had almost doubled to $36!! My reservation base rate had changed from $14.57 to $21.11. Why!?! She also wanted me to sign the fuel & damage checkout sheet without ever seeing the car! That sheet said the car was full of gas. When I got to the car, I found damage, plus it only had 5/8 of a tank. When I went back inside, she said just bring it back at same amount. When I asked her to initial beside the 5/8, she got very huffy and demanded to go see for herself. A manager did state that all the add on charges are because they are "an independent local rental company that rents Dollar cars. There were added fees that she said the local owners add on and do not allow anyone to waive! To rent the car, straighten out all the billing issues, then correct the gas level, it took over an hour to rent the car and leave the airport. For a small airport like Midland, that is totally unacceptable! read more

We were stuck at DFW Airport trying to fly out on standby but the weather was affecting many flights. We had to make several changes to our itinerary and their customer service agents were extremely helpful & accommodating on the phone. They helped make an extremely stressful situation much better by helping us change the pickup locations easily...three times! Despite all the changes, the cars were clean & ready for pickup when we arrived at Midland. I received a beautiful brand new Toyota Camry & my brother a new Nissan Altima. We were both extremely pleased with the vehicles and would rent from them again! read more

I was soooo nervous about this, based on other Yelp reviews. I made my reservation on Priceline in a hurry, and had not checked Yelp yet. When I did, I thought, "uh oh...please don't be a bad experience!" I am pleased to inform you that it was not a bad experience at all! After a delayed flight, I walked up to the counter and was helped right away. They had my reservation and were quick to get the process started. The only weird thing that happened is that they/the computer/whatever had somehow switched my name with someone else's registration #, so there was a bit of a mixup on what type of vehicle and length of time I was getting. But once we realized the error, they fixed it easily enough and I didn't have any other trouble. The car rental lot at MAF can be a bit confusing--they all kinda share spaces, so just make sure to pay attention to what the agent tells you. For instance, I rented from Dollar, but my car was in a Hertz spot. She told me this, but if I had not been paying attention, I would have been so confused. When you return the car, you can return it to any spot, I think I played it safe and returned it to the same spot I had retrieved it from a couple days before. Not sure if everyone else just had bad employees to deal with, or maybe they have gotten new management. Or maybe I got the one awesome employee in the bunch, but my experience was great! read more

Absolutely horrible!! I made it to the rental counter about 5 minutes before she was to close up for the night, and proceeded to get a lecture on how I should have called, or made my reservation for 11PM. The counter agent was obviously ticked off that she had to spend a couple of extra minutes helping me. When I got the car, the interior was filthy and I could barely see out of the windshield. The inside glass was glazed over and the outer glass looked like someone had wiped with a muddy rag. The outside of the car was also filthy. Overall, it was a miserable experience and I will never rent from Dollar again. read more

In 40+ years in business and well over 100 car rentals, this was the worst car rental experience I've ever had. Upon arrival at the airport, I was informed that the $66.86 (including taxes and fees) specified in my online confirmation was "just an estimate" and the actual charge would be $93.63. According to the person at the Dollar car rental desk, their price is always much higher than reservation prices over the internet. I've filed a complaint with the corporate office and will be interested in learning how they can justify this scam. read more

Do not recommend their vehicles!!!!! They had good service, but their vehicles are very unacceptable. The vehicle that I had had a heavy odor of cigarette smoke. It was really bad. The interior was also had stains all over the place. Even marks on the door. Then to add injury to insult, the usb didn't work. Who else knows what didn't work. I only found that cause I needed to charge my phone. The worst part was that the hood was all dented up. I took pictures, and when I returned the car, I informed them of the dents and all the scratches/marks. There was no note about it. They were completely oblivious to how bad the car was inside and out. That is poor quality of service. Never going to use them again read more

Bags of trash in car, broken windshield, low on fuel, other customers contracts with their personal information in car, supposed to be midsized got compact, no-one answers phone at location, never got receipt, then when I got CC statements they billed my CC $600 when it was supposed to be $144. Not sure how they could have done any worse! When I called Dollar Rent Car, they said independent owned location, and they would not be able to do anything about it! My colleague and I made car reservations weeks in advance to our business trip in which we would be arriving to Midland and need a rental car. When we arrived they tell us they do not currently have any cars and they will put us on their waiting list. "Isn't that the point of making a reservation" we asked? "Yes but we overbooked"the employee responded. Absolutely inexcusable. Apparently every car rental service in this airport was sold out as well and this problem happens often. Place is totally unprofessional and unreliable!!! Sent my wife to Midland to visit our son, made a reservation a MONTH in advance which they happily placed on my credit card only to have my wife stranded at the airport with no vehicle. All the rocket scientist on duty could tell her was to check back during the week... No assistance helping her find other transportation or even offering to call a cab. I called the so-called management and was left on hold when I demanded an explanation for the terrible treatment. DO NOT USE THEM YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!! read more

After waiting in line I was told that there was only 1 car left on the lot (economy nissan sentra) when I reserved a full size vehicle. I was told there may be more cars available if I wanted to wait 30 mins - an hour. The woman was very nice but the circumstances were not. I was heading to an important meeting and could not wait so I took the car that was available. The car was dirty inside & out and smelled of cigarette smoke. When I started the car the engine started making lots of loud noises. I would normally go back into the location to ask to exchange the vehicle but since this was the only one, I was stuck. I am in sales and people come in & out of my car on a regular basis. I have never been so embarrassed to have people seeing me and my company being represented by this vehicle. I am also shocked to see on my receipt that I was charged the original rate (full size) when I only got this economy car. The rates should be adjusted when cars are upgraded or downgraded. Also, we make these reservations far in advance. I understand that people don't return their cars on time and that is a hard thing to organize but, there should be more than one car on the lot. My company and I rent up to 3 cars a week on a regular basis all over the country and I have never seen anything like this before. This was my first time renting with Dollar and it will be my last. read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. Do not count on what they tell you when making the reservation. They either don't know better or they lie. Reserved car for friend after was assured they would take her debit card with a 75 dollar deposit. At counter, she was denied. That wanted 99 dollar deposit, she did not have it. Traveled to location myself because they would not take my credit card over the phone. Got there... first. .. they charged 11 dollars more per day because since my credit card was being used for the deposit, I have to be listed as a driver and they charge 11 dollars more per day for an additional driver efferv tho I will never step foot in the car. On the phone, they told me out would be a 99 dollar hold on my card, when I got there, I gave her my Discover card, she swiped it and said there would be a 399 hold because that's what it is if you use Discover or American Express, I gave her my Mastercard, it was a 350 dollar hold, she said because it was a credit not a debit it was more. I have her my Mastercard debit card, it was 399 dollars again. Tried my Visa credit card and it required only a 49 dollar deposit hold. What a rip off! read more

After calling and calling and calling I gave up and called Dollar Rental car corporate. When I originally signed up for the car it was supposed to be 15/day. When I got to the airport, they told me the dates weren't right and they could not honor the pre-paid reservation or booking fee. Then another agent, being very helpful....told me I could get a reservation but it was going to cost me another 350.00...The gals behind the counter are very very rude, very unproffesional which is customary of the MIdland area due to the "Oil Field" show and the lack of "customer service trained" personnel. Fortunately the old more seasoned male behind the counter finally took care of me, but wanted me to sign a damage waiver before I saw the car. I had to walk a mile to get to the car with bags in hand and it was over 103 degrees that day. When I finally got to the car, after stopping due to heart problems, the car was damaged in the back and filthy inside. The seats were filthy the car was dirty inside and out. I called the "nice" man back and let him know and he said just to let Dollar know that "so and so" approved. After getting the $150.00 depost back a week later, the Dollar Rental car charged me another $41.94 on my credit card and no explanation. I am disputing this and may go back and dispute the entire amount, as I received the car with only 3/4 tank and filled it to full upon return. I would not recommend this Dollar Rental or many of the places at the airport due to the rudeness, lack of courtesy and fraudulent charges. This Dollar doesn't ever ever answer the phone - ever. I am reporting them to the BBB, even though they are not registered, and to the FTC and any other corporate entity. What an aweful experience - read more

DO NOT RENT FROM DOLLAR AT MIDLAND AIRPORT!! Arrived at noon on a Saturday, the Dollar counter was deserted. I had to call the 800# to find out how to get my car. Apparently when the Dollar counter is closed, all transactions are processed at the the Hertz counter. Unfortunately, there was no sign directing customers to Hertz. With the erratic hours that Dollar keeps at this location they should have a better system in place. Better yet, keep the counter staffed-every other car rental counter had an agent on site. Returned my car at 2:30 pm on a Saturday, the Dollar counter was again deserted, this time with a sign posted to leave key in the drop box. How will they know when I dropped my car off? I wondered. With good reason.......When I received my receipt they charged me for an extra day because the operating hours showed that the counter SHOULD have been open, so they assumed that it actually was rather than verifying. They have agreed to refund the overage as a "goodwill gesture" because they "could not substantiate the return of the key to the drop box." They don't have their counter open during their posted normal operating hours and it's my fault? WHAT?? I fully expected a Dollar representative to be there too! Hey, Dollar executives: there are many other rental companies that will gladly take your customers, and actually provide them with customer service--without the condescending attitude. read more
