I'm a President's Circle member with Hertz and will most likely choose Hertz over any other car rental agency. Why? Because Hertz tends to have the best car selection, cars with low miles, take better care of the maintenance for its cars, and better customer service. Some of this was true for this location. EXCELLENT customer service! When I picked up the vehicle and when I dropped off the vehicle, I was greeted by both female customer service agents. (Sorry ladies I am forgetting your names, but you know who you were! You were are supper friendly and thank you for acknowledging my status with Hertz.) I was not happy with the selection of cars at this location. The car I received had high miles, the outside looked like it had not been washed, and according to the car's dashboard, the oil life of the car needed attention soon. It was my first time to Midland/Odessa, butI quickly learned there are a lot of dust storms. So just be aware of when you arrive and the cars are dirty. I was unhappy with the rental, I returned it within an hour and went with another car rental agency. Hertz, please do better at this location. read more

I was told management previously assigned him a car and he has a contract with them. I asked isn't that called a reservation? No help, no communication and Hertz customer service was worthless. I rented a car two weeks before and checked in online that morning. None of that matters when there are no cars or workers to bring the cars to the terminal. I was informed that there would be a 40 minute to one hour wait. 10 people stood in line ahead of me. I canceled my reservation and took Uber. Midland Odessa airport seems to have systemic issues, so I'm not sure any of the competitors are better. read more

The absolute worst car rental experience possible every time; they never have any available vehicles when you arrive, there is a thirty to forty-five minute wait, the vehicles are filthy, and the women working the front desk are completely unable to assist you in any way!! I'd like to share my experience with Hertz- I experienced price gouging and unfair business practice! Last summer, I rented a car from Hertz for work. I am a healthcare provider and I work in a lot of rural, underserved areas and I frequently rent vehicles. About 1 AM, I was in the hospital delivering a baby and my rental car was involved in a hit-and-run. Hertz did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to help me get the car repaired or to get me another vehicle. This is a terrible way to treat a customer, but more importantly, in my line of work, it potentially puts women and their unborn babies at risk if their doctor can't get to the hospital because the rental car company blows them off! And then they want to charge $9000 for a Hyundai sedan!!! Including loss of use, and loss of value. It's a rental car! Everyone knows cars lose value the second you drive them off the lot! It seems that a car losing value is the cost of doing business as a rental car company! How can you possibly justify charging me for this? Checked in early, they have cars but won't let me get my car until "around" my appointment time. There were at least 5-10 other people waiting for their car as well after checking in with the desk. I have been renting from this location since 2008. I have experienced just about every scenario, good and bad, as the other reviewers. What I am very upset about is my last experience and based on how this is being handled, I will never rent from Hertz again. When I returned my car this week, I left a set of beats ear buds in the cup holder. I realized it immediately after I got through security. I called down and spoke to the woman at the counter. She stated they would look into and call me back. I told her they were definitely in the car and not to accept they were not in the car. After no returned call, and no ability to speak to a human, I had a coworker go the location and talk to them. They informed him there were no items left in the car and to go online and submit. This is infuriating. They were in the car. Someone from Hertz stole them. That simple. And the fact that after days of trying to talk to someone about it, I have transferred from one department after another with a bunch of "Sorry but thank you for calling Hertz" is ridiculous. Oh, and as I write this, after all those transfers... I was just hung up on. Not the crime of the century but how this whole thing is being handled or not being handled, means that I can't trust that action would be taken in a bigger event. So the action I will take is to make sure my travel agent never books anyone in my company with Hertz again. read more

I never understand the negative reviews some rental car agencies receive. I've now reserved through this airport with Hertz three times, returned the same, and have always been greeted by a professional and friendly attendant. And my goodness, how much closer can you have your rental car parked that the set-up here? Same for the return. Maybe it's attitude? Midland Airport is a small set-up that is largely supporting the oil industry. Period. Well, there may be a few folks flying through like myself to head to Big Bend National Park to hike and camp, but a vacation destination this is not. It's still 4+ hours away from the latter. All I can add is, thanks, Hertz. My car is always waiting, the line is short, and I don't get hassled because my credit card company is selected to pay for my collision and comp. worst experience and I will not book with hertz again! I had booked confirmation online. I got to the desk and was there trying all 3 cards..2 debit and 1 cc and all would not go through. The systems were slow and having issues, the guy says because it was raining. Then it printed out something from equifax stating do not rent out car. I have funds in all my accts and credit score high. I asked to speak with Manager Melissa who was avail by phone but was no help and said there was nothing they could do. Don't rent here. Personnel are not friendly. They will charge for fuel and not take it off the bill if you mistakenly forgot to uncheck the box on the website agreeing to prepay for fuel. And even though you returned the car with the tank full. So they pocketed the fuel fee. Even Customer service at the 1800 number refused to refund it. National Car Rental always gave the best service and I will be using National again after trying Hertz for the first time in 6+ years. Apparently Hertz does not need my business. read more

First of all, keep in mind that this airport is empty all the time, so it's not like the car rental places are too busy to keep their cars in tip-top shape. The check-in lady didn't have that good of an idea of how to get me rented... but after 15 or so minutes, they had it figured out. Slightly annoying, but they told me that I had an upgraded car, a Mazda 5, so I was okay with it. I get outside to the car and WOW, what a POS. Dirty, and I mean dirty in a way that it looks like it'd never been washed. The whole interior had about 1/8" of dust, leaves on the floor, and trash in the cup holders. The outside was covered in some white dust and full of dents. I had a business meeting I had to run to, so no time to go back and wait another 15 minutes for a different car. The next morning I wake up at the hotel, go out to my car, and BOOM! The car won't start. F'ing AWESOME. The hotel people jump it for me, and I somehow make it to Big Spring and back to Midland. Woo. When I dropped off the car, got lucky and the regional manager was there. Explained the issues to her and she said they're trying to make it better. Failing so far, but they get 2 stars because she says they're going to try more. read more

I rented a minivan through expedia and the rep at Hertz told me they don't have a minivan in inventory to begin with. They then provided me a SUV without any compensation (The SUV's condition is good). Luckily one of my guests missed this trip, otherwise I won't have enough space to fit all of them in. Tried to call and resolute this issue with Hertz after the trip, Hertz's hotline rep forwarded my call to midland airport office and they never picked up my phone call.... Rented from them at the end of November and was over charged $99.00 when asked at the desk when returning car I was told that it was a deposit and the charge would only be the $203 I was suppose to pay. after calling 5 days later I was told that they could not fix it. Hertz has a new policy of charging a random $13.99 for refueling unless you stop by the counter wait in line to show them a receipt. You can also email them the receipt to prove you refueled. What happened to service and checking the fuel gauge upon return. I have been a loyal Hertz President's Circle member for years and have loved there service. NOT ANY MORE! I THINK THIS BOARDERS ON FRAUD! THIS IS A RANDOM CHARGE NOT BASED ON FACT AND REALLY PISSES ME OFF. I suggest you try Avis. I wish I had checked these reviews before renting. Avis in Midland has been good to me, but when I picked up this car, the tank was 3/4 full, not full like the other Avids cars I have rented. I got a deal, but my credit card has initially been charged double; we'll see how that turns out. Worst rental car experience ever. I made a reservation for a car. Check in at the counter and then waited 45 minutes there. They said they had no cars available. There were at least 12 other people waiting for cars. The staff at the desk had serious attitude. I said needed to cancel and they said ok. They then left me standing at the desk for another 5 minutes until they asked why are you still standing here. I told them I wanted confirmation that it was cancelled. They rudely said "well if you don't take a car then it's cancelled. 1. No cars available -reservation had been made 2. At least a dozen others waiting for there cars. 3. Let me say I picked up my car this morning and like always this location always has a smile and everyone even knows me by name and knows what car I need even before I set foot inside the building! Car was ready, clean and inexpensive! No trying to upsell or hassle me over a price like other bigger city locations, which is always great being a Hertz president club member I know what I want and need and shouldn't be hassled over it but even before I hit president club the staff has always been so helpful from Jeff to the manager Sheila and other CS members at this here location at the Midland Intl Airport. read more

Instead of waiting I just took a crummy Chevy Aveo instead just so I could get out of there. My husband was in an accident that totaled his car, so we needed a rental. Reserved a car online and were told to arrive after 3. Took an Uber 20 miles to pick up our car only to be informed that there were no cars available and we might have to wait at least 4 hrs. No apology. No offered solutions. No phone call ahead of time to say "Don't bother coming out here, we have no car for you." Just bad attitudes and excuses. Very poor customer service. If you have a choice, USE ANOTHER COMPANY. We just had one of the worst experiences EVER with a rental car, which we rented from Hertz in Midland, TX. We had a flat tire today and called HertzRoadside Assistance to get some help. The woman told us to keep driving the car with a flat tire to the Hertz rental location!!!! We told her it was unsafe and she told us that Hertz would charge us $68 to come change the tire! Then she connected us to the rental location in Midland, they told us they couldn't help us! We called AAA (I'm a member) and within an hour our tire was changed, free of charge, and we were on our way. WE WILL NEVER RENT FROM HERTZ AGAIN!!! I should've known it was going to be a pain when the clerk at the counter helped the person behind me before even acknowledging me. After helping her preferred customer she gives me the keys to a car that was dangerous to drive. It badly needed a wheel alignment. I obviously took it back and was "upgraded" to a car with AC problems which badly needed an oil change. Had I not been in town visiting a dying relative I would have raised hell. I sent a complaint to hertz corporate office and still haven't heard back. Never again! read more
