Horrible! We were ABANDONED by National Car Rental. Let me restate that, we were ABANDONED on the road by National Car Rental! Never lease from National Car Rental! We leased a SUV for my wedding party out of their Midland/Odessa airport office. Our wedding was June 6, 2025, at a resort about 40 miles from Marfa, Tx. After the wedding, we drove from our resort into Marfa, Tx., for dinner about 40 miles away. After dinner in Marfa (about 5:00pm) on our wedding day, our SUV had a flat tire in front of the restaurant. We called National Car Rental who transferred us to customer service who transferred me to their roadside assistance (totally worthless). We were told to take the car to El Paso, Tx., 194 miles away or 2 1/2 hours. Obviously they don't understand stand what a flat tire is. After 5 calls to National Car rental (5 messages sent to Midland/Odessa office at the airport were never answered) and their roadside people, nothing happened. We were promised time and time again to wait where we were and a replacement SUV would come. Never happened. Around Midnight, with 7 adults a 3 year old and infant, we got a ride back to the resort. Arrived at the resort around 2:00AM! The next morning we finally got ahold of a small rental place in Ft. Stockton, TX, 1 1/2 hours away, called Small Town Car Rental. These people were wonderful! They bent over 18 different ways to help us. They brought us a SUV. When we returned the SUV to them in Ft. Stockton, Tx., they drove us to the Midland airport to fly home. National Car rental ABANDONED us on our wedding night and have yet to contact us about it. I just thank God we weren't out on a highway, in West Texas with 90+ degree temps with a 3 year old and an infant. I have yet to receive any calls or correspondence from National Car Rental. The only reason they got one star is because I had to give them at least a one star for a review. The agent asked for the card I made my reservation with. Wanted to charge a deposit. no problem. She charged it 400.00. then asked if it was a debit card. Yes it was. She cancelled my reservation stating they did not take debit cards. Well they charged it 400.00. so they did take it erroneously. Now stranded at airport. No rental car. 400 out of my account and no way to get it back for 5 days. Due to her error. They they asked me to leave because I was upset. Three times in a row ( all in the last 3 months)... I land, I go to the counter and viola, no car. On average, I wait about an hour for a car. This time I am 18th in line waiting for a car that has been reserved long in advance, hoping people return cars so I can just be late to my meeting, versus a no-show. I guess we'lol see how it turns out. Wonder if it's that hard to realize the need for more cars on hand... or don't accept reservations that can't be fulfilled. read more

The staff at this location are the reason I decided to never use National or Enterprise again. Extremely rude and unprofessional. This National location doesn't honor corporate contracts. Rent at your own risk. Due to weather, my American Airlines flight this morning was delayed, resulting in me being rebooked for later today. Yesterday, when I called my corporate travel agent, they told me not to worry because national was open until midnight. This morning I called the national 800 number to let them know I would be in late and they told me the same thing my travel agent did-that my corporate contract allowed pickup 24 hours later and not to worry. Well, I received a call from national when I was in Dallas on my layover letting me know they had no car for me until Wednesday. Wednesday!! Today is Monday. I have to pay for cabs or Ubers until then. I'm staying in Odessa, 20 some miles away! The lady that called me blamed the National 800 number and said they should have called them to let them know. Sorry lady, you should have called me prior to giving away my car due to my company contract!! Very, very, very, poor customer service. I've been executive elite for 9 years (over 80 rental days per year even during the pandemic) and this is the worst service I've ever received at ANY national car rental location in the lower 48 and three Canadian provinces. A young man did give me the number to a cab company, and I had to wait 25 minutes for a cab at the airport to get to my hotel. There were contracts and keys sitting on the counter. Went to go pick up the car we rented... couldn't get it. They decided to tell us that we couldn't get it because we didn't have a credit card or something. And instead of letting us know we needed that before we bought it, they took our money no hesitation knowing we wouldn't be able to get it. If I could give this zero stars I would. My corporate account uses National as one of its preferred agencies. Had an appointment set, show up on time, and then told they don't have a vehicle available for me and it will be a few hours.... unprofessional and horrible customer service. There was no wait to pick up my car. They honored my corporate account with no problem. I had my corporate ID number with me. I chose a standard size car which turned out to be a little smaller than I am used to, so next time I'll choose a slightly larger category. But the car drove very well, with no issues with the tires, AC, steering, wipers or comfort. Plenty of room for luggage for two carry-ons and a back pack in the trunk. Staff was friendly and competent. When I turned the keys back in, I went to the desk to get a receipt, and there was a bit of a wait due to a fairly long line. A second staff member came out eventually and I was able to turn in my keys and get a printed receipt. If you are in a hurry to turn in your keys, there is a drop box available. read more

A long wait for cars even for Emerald Club members and rude counter staff. This location is ridiculous.

Staff here is always helpful and friendly. Never have trouble getting a Nissan, which is my preferred vehicle type. They do a pretty good job keeping the line moving, especially making sure they get the Emerald Club members through quickly. Only thing is sometimes it takes a bit to drop a car off. I like to get a paper receipt and ensure check-out goes smoothly before leaving (have been bitten at other rental places before). Sometimes this takes a while to get someone's attention. Especially on my last trip where one guy was having issues and 3 people were helping him. Eventually (maybe 7 or 8 minutes), one of them stepped aside to help me out. read more

I was lied to by the customer service agent. I wrote all the details down on the sleeve and returned the car. The agent ignored my notations and put in the wrong mileage. When I questioned him, he said I will adjust and send out a receipt with the correct information. WRONG. I absolutely hate being lied to. I had a similar experience as Brynn's post. National Car Rental is one of the choices thru my corporate account. I did say "one" of my choices. This was my first time experience with National. I'm a corporate traveler that travels frequently to Mid/Odessa. The car I received was dirty and dusty on the inside. It was obvious that the car had not been cleaned. The front floor mats were so dirty that I took the rear floor mats and placed them over the front ones. I'm talking about grease or oil stain and dirt. I didn't want to put my feet on the ones provided. The car seemed like it had driven off road, based on the sticks/debris sticking in the front grill. So my first car broke down on me...rear tire blowout as I was driving down the highway. I didn't run over anything to cause the blowout! Had to wait 45 minutes before the wrecker showed up to tow the vehicle back to the airport. Finally I got a change out. I get in the second car of the day and guess what? The second car had not been cleaned or vacuumed out. I couldn't believe it!! Their cars are filthy. They obviously don't care to clean them out. Let's just say, this will be the last car I rent from National/Midland. Period, end of story. read more

Very helpful and accommodating customer service at the Midland Airport National Car rental counter. I made an online reservation the night before I needed the car and the earliest pick-up time was 2 hours after my flight arrived. I went to the counter and even though they did not have a record of my reservation due problems they were having with the website, they were able to find a car for me right away. read more

Easy rental car process. I had no issues with the car and the bill was accurate. I'll use this location again. I've used them before and have always had great service. I'd recommend heading directly to the rental car station though and then getting your checked bags as the line can form quickly and be a bit time consuming. read more

I travel through Midland on a regular basis and always find the staff accommodating. In all candor, the wait line really doesn't differentiate Emerald member or not. But I've never found it to be an issue or had to wait an excessive amount of time. Great job National! read more

Arrived around 7:30 PM and was told that it would take about 30 minutes for them to get a vehicle cleaned and ready. It appeared there were 5 people ahead of me and another 7 people behind me waiting. I waited about 25 minutes before finally getting a vehicle. When I got to my rental, it was obvious that it had not been cleaned because of trash inside the vehicle, the windshield was covered with dead bug residue that affected the field of view (especially driving at night), and the front of the vehicle was covered with dead bugs. I had to stop at a nearby gas station just so I could scrap off whatever is covering the windshield so it would be safer to drive. When I returned the vehicle, I arrived at the airport at 6:45 AM and handed my keys to the male customer service representative that just arrived. He said that they don't open until 7:00 AM but he would get the vehicle checked in and would email me my receipt as soon as possible. When I still haven't received my receipt by 4:00 PM, I called the location and the phone number on record does not allow you to talk to an actual customer service representative at the Midland airport, it redirected me to a corporate representative. They gave me number that was supposed to be a "direct" number to the Midland location. No one was answering the phone so I left a message to call me back. I called again 1 hour later and left the same message since I still haven't gotten a call back. I called back again 2 hours later, left a message, and still haven't received a call back. When I look at the National Car Rental app, it is showing that I am "late" at returning my rental. Fortunately, out of habit, I usually either take a picture or a short video to show my dashboard (mileage and full tank of gas) and where I parked the vehicle when I return cars at rental facilities without an attendant present during the return of the vehicle. I've been an Executive Elite with National for a while and rented at least 60 days so far this year and this is the worst experience I've had so far from a customer service stand point read more

Rented a chevy equinox for 5 days. Returned car to the same airport from which I picked it up. Returned on time and full of gas. Printer was down and we told that they would email me receipt. Charged $1,946. Agent put that I returned to other than original rental point. ten phone calls so far with no resolution in sight. No direct number to office for refund. Run around after run around. If I could submit 0 stars I would have but you have to at least select 1 star. I travel out to west Texas every 6 weeks for the last 4 years and rent from National Car rental because we have a corporate acct. The cars are always very dirty not vacuumed or wiped down, usually needs oil changed or needs maintenance and they smell awful. 8 out of 10 times I have to go back to the desk to exchange for another vehicle and the employees could give a flip. I have also had to drive it back to the airport and exchange for a different vehicle because of maintenance. Awful, awful, awful read more

I arrived at the airport and my ride was not there and was caught up about an hour away, so I needed to rent a car quickly. I went to another rental company first (that I usually use) and they only had one car available for $160 a day. I walked down to the National area and the employee there was very friendly and helpful. She was able to get me car within 5 minutes and I was out of there. I would definitely recommend National and will consider using them in my future business trips. Thanks. read more
