4++ Signs in the terminal were easy to follow to get to the rental desk. I like that they combined the help desk with the other rental companies so the line moved evenly and quickly. Crazy that there are a lot of really low scores. Maybe I was just really lucky. The person was very helpful and friendly at the desk. I pre-purchased when booking, but the person went through the usual song and dance (offering insurance, how I want to return the gas tank, etc.). Standard stuff really. They didn't have the level of car I booked so they upgraded me. Once the paperwork was done they instructed me to head out to the stall and get in the car. Just a really streamlined and easy experience. The vehicle was nice and I was excited to get on the road. The exiting process was standard and easy as well. This airport had easy to follow signs on the return. I cleaned up what I could and got my stuff and left the car along with the keys in the return area. Smooth sailing! read more

the guys at the front counter are straight scammers. they tried to charge me $631 dollars in insurance for a week, they told me to bring the car back on empty and they'd fill it up. The only reason i give this 3 star is because management fixed the problem quick and easy. i only paid like $230 for collision and deposit. if i were you i WOULD NOT go to front counter, go straight to the managers at the HERTZ office outside. On a recent rental, they gave me a dinky car in place of a full-size, and then told me I could upgrade to a SUV for $10 more a day but a dinky Nissan was the only car they had available. Paid $57 to rent a car through my tmobile app. It said all was good pick up my car. Drive all the way to the airport, paid for overnight parking and took shuttle to get my car. At the desk im told there is a deposit or $200 for credit cards and $500 for debit. So I paid the $500 deposit just for them to deny me due to a credit check! They scammed me out of my $57! For starters nobody walked the vehicle with me to check for damages or anything along those lines. When i go back inside to inform an employee that the car has issues they instructed to take photos. I can't take photos of a smell. Upon turning my vehicle in, again nobody was there to check in with. I am now being charged $500 for a smoking fee, when I didn't smoke inside. I tried calling this location multiple times over a month before traveling to Indianapolis and was never able to reach an agent. I was going to explain my flight was landing at 10:38pm. When using the Hertz app I was able to change my pick up time to 11pm but was not able to add my flight information. I finally land and made my way to the counter at 11pm for them to tell me, and many others, they no longer had cars available. Walk ups without reservations were allowed that day leaving us with reservations without a car. I needed to leave Indianapolis at 8am the following day and now that becomes more of a hassle. We called their customer service and the woman seemed non phased and simply said I could swap it out at any Thrifty location. However, when looking it up, there's only ONE location in the whole state of Indiana, back at the airport. We were no longer close to the airport so we had to suffer with it. First time renting from Thrifty. I rarely make the same mistake twice, so ... rented a car in Calgary in September. Reserved the car March 3. My flights were changed by the airline 2 or 3 times. I could no longer pick up the car because I was arriving after they closed. Despite notifying them to try to work it out or cancel more than 30 days in advance, it could not be worked out and they refused a refund. Apparently, somewhere on the page it said Non-Refundable. (I didn't see it.) Well whether they can legally do that is one thing, but whether they SHOULD is another. Logically, if they had allowed me to cancel and rebook another car the next morning they really would have lost nothing. But I guess they don't understand repeat business is often the easier way to get clients than to attract new ones. In addition, there is nowhere to call and talk to a person. It is a call tree where all options lead to a recording. I tried the "Contact Us" button on their website and it also went nowhere. You know, after stealing $500+ from me, I think their car rental business is a "front" for a theft ring. I had to work through a third party just to communicate with them. Now they have my money AND they can rent the car to someone else, and heck, maybe even a third person if that doesn't work out. I didn't have a problem with the car but I did have a problem when I tried to send in a form for lost and found. first, I tried finding a phone number to contact them but I couldn't find one the 317 number does not work. Then I filled out a form and you have to go through Hertz for it. Submit the forms went to check on the status of the report and it disappeared. Two different times I filled out a form both times they were canceled out. Don't know why they can't just answer me if something was found in the glove box. Not like I can get it back because it's past 30 days anyway, it's more for just a piece of mind. Also, I thought they went through the cars, so why not take a minute and call the phone number and ask the people if they left something in the car? they're still waiting in the airport for the flight unless it was like us and it was canceled and we had to go back down there and rent another car to drive home. read more

I have used Thrifty for many years. In January while on a business trip I rented a car for two days. I just saw on my credit card I was charged $500 for smoking clean up fee. I have never smoked in my life. This is highway robbery. But I know it's my word against the guy in the return lot who stuck his head inside the car and decided that it smelled like smoke. I was a little leery about my late arrival and the use of the www.rentalcars.com/ website to book a car that was fulfilled by Thrifty (e.g., would they have the reservation on their books? Would I be charged an arm and leg since I didn't go directly through Thrifty? Will they be open at 11:00 PM on a Thursday night?) All my fears were for naught as the place was open, staffed by two people, and the young lady who helped me was super friendly and helpful (turns out she had also attended school where I was heading to graduate from the following weekend!) I got to pick my car, and it was in great shape when I got to it (clean and full functional.) Easy return too as we brought it back @ 0550 the following Tuesday and one attendant there got us processed fast and we were on our way to the main terminal. Nice work. Four Stars! read more

Horrible experience. Renter a "premium" class car here. Received a base model Chevy trax that was 5 years old. Half the radio buttons don't work. No cruise control, power seats or anything. I'm also not real sure how safe it is. It's pulling to the side a bit and shakes whenever I stop. Something is broken or out of balance. They should never have attempted to give this out as a premium car. An economy car maybe but even that's a stretch. Now I'm told they are sold out can can't swap it with anything. Very unhappy, do not recommend especially when there are several other companies at the airport with better cars within a few bucks of these prices. read more

Absolutely terrible experience with Thifty at RSW Airport in Ft Myers, FL. Car I reserved was not available. Told I could have (and pay extra for) the next class of car or sit around at the terminal, possibly for hours, until someone returned a car in the class I had reserved. Zero customer service. Asked to speak with manager, but they were no better than the desk clerk. No remorse or attempt to fix their failure to provide the service (car) they committed to in the reservation. Even tried to push me into taking an EV! Who would take an EV as a rental on vacation? Most hotels don't have EV chargers. It's only a one bc there's no way to do a negative value. Reservation made 3 months ago, with contract and rate assigned for 2 days. Arrive at the Indianapolis airport at midnight as scheduled. The rental line is long and barely moving. Average interaction is 11 minutes (timed it due to boredom and frustration). 2 hrs later get to counter. They see my contract and somehow Charge $700 for a week even when the reservation is clearly for 2 days. They charge my card and can't figure out how to correct it., saying that if I take the rental I agree to the week contract that i never took out. I figure I'll take up in the morning bc it's now 2:30 am. Get the car and at the exit come to find that they typed my name wrong so have to drive back and go back inside for a correction, 30 minutes later!!! Vehicle was fine but there is nothing "thrifty" about their rentals - more like shifty! with hidden/unexplained fees and blind signing of the "rental agreement". Our costs were DOUBLE what was expected and customer service just sent a copy of the rental agreement and then stopped responding when I emailed for clarification. None of the additional fees were explained or shown to us prior to signing - and we were told by our on site agent that everything was pre-paid, that our credit card was being run for a hood in case of damages only, and then rushed through the process and told to sign the pad but not shown what we were signing FIRST. I called them to find out what it was for. I had Allegedly signed up for insurance on the vehicle. I signed electronically and that I told the guy at the counter that I did not want it. Why would I have to look at the agreement again to make sure that he put in what I said. She apologized and continued saying and the agreement has been signed. I know where your phone will be and no brief on movie issue. I'm convinced that they should just increase their insurance rates $500 why not take advantage of peoples willingness to sign and assume they are getting what they just agreed to. I rented a car from Thrifty at Indianapolis airport. I left my wallet in the vehicle at drop off when I went back to get it, it was found in the vehicle. It was returned to me at the Hertz Gold office, but when it was returned to me and I opened it I realized the person who returned it had gone through my wallet, moved items around and stole hundreds of dollars in cash. When brought to the attention of management I was told that is it not the responsibility of the rental company for left items. My issue is that the left item was returned but not returned as found. rented from the Baltimore / Washington airport. Prices are good but the car i rented was unsafe. The change oil light came on 10 minutes after we drove away, 7% oil life left. No window scrapers were in the vehicle and we were stuck in a snow storm In Delaware. the wiper fluid was completely empty which made it even harder to see on the bad roads. I kept having to stop off just to throw snow on the windows to help clean them. when we first got in the car, is reeked bad of marijuana and the smell lasted for 3 days. On the second day, we discovered the engine made a horriible sound and every time we slowed down, it sounded like we were dragging a bunch of junk behind our car. I would say, ¨Don´t use Thrifty¨ but we used Budget at IN airport last time we came through and they tried to charge us $300 for an upgrade we never asked for and it took six months for them refund us that money. This was quite honestly the worst car rental experience I have had in eight years of traveling as a recruiter for work. They didn't have their own staff at the counter so Hertz staff had to jump in once all the Hertz customers had been served which meant waiting almost 30 minutes to even be seen. Once I was I was sent to a car with scratches, dents and a maintenance light on. No one checked me out, however, so I couldn't even report it. When I tried calling customer service to get something on record I had to call three times to reach someone at all, and they still weren't able to help me. I had the same amount of luck calling the rental counter itself. I sent in a written complaint and heard nothing at all back. I was going to Florida for a quick weekend trip with my grandson. I found (what I thought) was a good deal on Expedia. I booked a midsize out of Orlando airport. When we arrived at the Thrifty checkout counter, I was greeted warmly. However, when I declined the additional insurance, the mood instantly changed. The counter person resorted to scare tactics and out right lies to get me to purchase the insurance. I'm 58 years old and have rented vehicles dozens of times. I carry good insurance and know full well that, even in Florida, my car insurance is valid. When I finally received my midsize vehicle (Nissan Rogue, I believe), it was nearly 11:00pm. We headed on to our hotel and when the vehicle approached any speed over 25mph, it began to shake pretty severely. I called Thrifty customer service from the hotel that night and held for over 15 minutes waiting for someone to answer. I gave up and tried the next morning. I was connected with someone who gave me instructions on how to return the car for replacement. She treated me with disdain and basically hung up on me. When I returned to the airport to exchange the vehicle, the Thrifty employee asked if I was returning the vehicle. Not knowing exactly how to answer due to the extenuating circumstances, I briefly told her my dilemma. She said - and I quote- "So you're NOT returning the vehicle". She walked away and muttered something under her breath. I was given a decent midsize Corolla for my exchange and we went on about our vacation. I WAS NEVER OFFERED ANY TYPE OF APOLOGY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE FROM ANY OF THE EMPLOYEES I DEALT WITH. I will NEVER rent from Thrifty/Dollar/Hertz EVER again. There are far too many other choices out there. And for the record, I received an email for a survey after we completed our trip. I basically said the same thing as in this review and, even though they said they'd reach out to me within 72 hours, I heard NOTHING. We usually go through Enterprise but my husband went through AAA and thought he got a good deal with Thrifty. We walk the stretch of car rental companies and see this awful line of 200+ people. It's the Thrifty/Dollar Rental Company on a holiday weekend. Long story short, we finally get a car? at 2:30 am. We still didn't save much money. Make sure you look for all the costs. Please stay away from them. When they asked me if I wanted basic coverage, I said yes, expecting them to charge about $40. No, they only gave me the daily quote without telling me it's daily. People usually tell me how much they will charge me and what service they will charge me for and then do what they say. It's hard for me to believe a big company like Thrifty would lie. Got a. Last minute price of $46 a day for a Chevy Sonic through Priceline. There was a bit of a line but they processed everyone quickly. I got dinged an extra day for being 5 hours late (long story) but was happy with the car's performance. Especially with the intense winds coming back. (Large part of the delay) one point of note. Priceline offered insurance at $11 that expired one hour prior to pick up. Thrifty offered it at $28. Ouch. I declined both. read more

absolutely horrendous staff. can't even get you a right number for where your car is at. we got 4 numbers before another company called and said your giving out Wrong numbers to multiple people. maybe shouldn't have new people working on one of the biggest traveling holidays there is. you pay for your rental car online then at the counter they charge a "airport tax" so just go to enterprise. cars/suv are same price and miraculously the "airport tax" is in the price. the staff is VERY rude. when you have a disagreement they stand behind the counter and snicker and point and when you say something your the rude person. not a good choice. I rent cars 5 times a month and this is the first "airport tax" I had to pay at the counter. it was my first time using thrifty and my absolute last. so just remember the price you pay for immediate payment on a car rental site for thrifty will be 36 dollars more once you get there. dollar and thrifty and hertz are the only 3 that charge this separately. We had a great experience! Wish I had gotten names. There was an African American lady who stayed past hours -after 1am- to help us (we called ahead with our flight info). She was very friendly and helpful. They didn't have the car we signed up for, so she helped us get another alternative that was probably a better fit and an upgrade as well as a voucher. No haggling, just got it figured out and fixed. We returned the car just now and it was a breeze. Very quick, which is comforting when you need to catch your flight. The minute my husband walked in to return our rental car the lady had a disgusted look on her face. He explained to her a rock had hit our windshield on the highway. From there it turned into the car smells like weed. He literally just got off of work and drove there. She was so rude and tried rushing him out after she said he was being charged $350. I rented a car in Chicago with a drop off in Indianapolis. Due to weather and other circumstances, I needed to keep the car 2 extra days. I called Thrifty each day to modify the reservation. Each time I called I got men with very thick Indian accents. I didn't understand a single word they said. They spoke very rapidly, and I kept asking them to repeat what they were saying, and asked to speak to someone in the USA. I was told no one rental, which was available in the USA, then I asked to speak to a person who's first language was English. Both times they were very indignant, and told me that they were speaking English. I gave up. I had prepaid the first day of the rental, which was $260, for the additional 2 days I was charged a whopping $633. I questioned the charges, again with heavy Indian accents. So here I am, 3 days car rental $893. I could not get any explanations or speak to a person who spoke English. Don't rent from Thrifty, unless you have a lot of money and enjoy getting screwed!!!! read more

The experience was right out of a Seinfeld episode. Horrible... What good is a car rental reservation when they're not going to have any cars waiting for you? My flight was on time, and they still didn't have my car. The only other options they gave me were a 15 passenger van or a dirty compact car someone just got out of, instead of the midsize suv that I had reserved. I asked for a discount on the dirty car, but they only offered 8%, which is less than the difference to upgrade to the midsize suv in the first place. Luckily Alamo honored the rate that I had reserved through Thrifty. Not to mention that when I got to the airport, the sign directed Blue Chip members to the outside kiosk for a speedy transaction, but no one was at the kiosk! So by the time I made it back in, there were 5 people in front of me in line. After 2 hours of the rental nightmare, the Alamo guy helped me get the heck out of there. I should have known this would happen... Dollar is run by the same company, and the last time I was in Indy I had made a reservation through Dollar. Because my flight was delayed, they cancelled my car reservation. Luckily they had cars that time. But I'm not going to fall for the Dollar/Thrifty trap again. Beware!! read more

I arrived in Indy for a 6 day business trip on May 1. I wanted a compact car for fuel economy reasons, but were told there were no cars small cars available (even though it was a confirmed resv). They gave us a full size car at the same rate. We get to the parking lot, and it was full of compact cars...they could not give us a reason why we couldn't get one of those. Getting to our rental, it had been smashed in the left front and the right mirror was busted. The car we were given had 25000 miles on it and the tires were making a lot of noise. Didn't think anything about it until the last day, when I looked at the tires and realized there were several 1/2 wide holes in the front tires, and the wear sensors were showing. Something was definitely wrong with this vehicle and the tire problems were reported to the check-in person. My wife had left her GPS and camera in the vehicle, and we called them immediately upon getting home. They could not locate either item, and indicated the car had already been sent out. I wrote to corporate, and received nothing. My wife contacted corporate by phone, and they couldn't care less. The staff in the Indy office is clueless. As the other reviewers have stated - DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! Or with Dollar at this terminal. I wrote this review solely to warn people that this organization (including corporate) apparently does not care about the safety of their vehicles. Renting a car with serious safety issues is too much. This will be my last rental with them period. read more

I will never rent from Thrifty again! We rented a car, and left the airport. I noticed that the tire pressure was low, so I stopped to fill it up. Turns out the tire had a nail in it. I returned the car, which they happily exchanged for another. They also happily hit me with a bill two months later for a new tire, loss of use, labor, etc. $267. They held me liable, even though the nail was in there before I even rented the car. I appealed, but that got me nowhere. So be careful when you fill out those scratch-and-dent sheets - if you are renting from Thrifty, you better make sure you gave covered every inch of that car (including the tires!) read more
