Mistakes happen--I understand that. But what I experienced was completely unacceptable. I had my breathing machine locked in my rental car--something I rely on to breathe and function--and there was absolutely no one available to help me access it. I was essentially left without a medically necessary device because your company had no system in place for emergencies. It is beyond unreasonable to expect someone to wait until 8:00 in the morning to access something they need to survive. This isn't about convenience--this is about basic human safety. I cannot understand why security does not have access to a key or any way to open the lockbox in a situation like this. That is a serious failure on your part. When a company deals with customers traveling at all hours, there should always be an emergency solution in place. While I will acknowledge that the staff I interacted with when I picked up my rental were friendly, that does not make up for the fact that I was left without access to something I need to breathe. Because of this, I would not recommend this company to anyone. It is alarming that every other rental company in the terminal had someone available to assist, yet your company did not. No customer should ever be put in a position where their health is at risk due to a lack of basic support. Now before anyone says well you left it. They charged an extra $272 for smoking in the vehicle. The rental agent Jasmine behind the desk took a picture of an air freshener on the ground and blurry pics of "ashes" on the floor of the car. She was upset because my husband complained about the car he received and mentioned her name to management for rude service. So when he returned the car she lied and said he smoked in the car. I had to dispute the charge with my credit card because customer service would not remove the charge. So therefore they will never get our business again. They responded that they do not retaliate, but their agent surely did. Instead of being defensive, just take ownership of the bad service and reprimand the employee. From what I see the reviews are horrible so maybe they need to spend more time training their employees and fixing their issues than responding to complaints with pointless statements. read more

Buyer Beware! Prices appear good on the surface, BUT...First problem was the "bait and switch". We rented an SUV "BMW X5 or similar", and when we arrived in Munich with our two 19 year old grandsons, there was nothing of that size available. They gave us an SUV with significantly less luggage space, and we had to drive around Europe with part of our luggage jammed into the passenger area with us for 10 days. There was NO adjustment given on the price- it was take it or leave it. We asked repeatedly for a refund of the price difference, which would have been approximately $320.00. While driving through Austria we apparently exceeded the speed limit at some point, and Sixt notified us that we would be receiving a ticket from Austria by email. We are ok with paying the fine, because the speed limit signs were sometimes hard to follow, but Sixt charged us a $35 fee for notifying us of the ticket. read more

In December 2023 I rented a car in Vienna, Austria and asked specifically about vignettes and tolls, those "licenses" one must buy. I was told, as it says on the website that all vignetters were included in the cost of rental. I got home to discover I had been changed for a vignette for some small road we travelled on. I asked about it and was told that I could have bought a vignette in a gas station or other store. Refused to assist me. I had to spend 120 euros on the fine plus 24.17 to SIXT for handling and 4.83 VAT. And I had to pay a $50 USD for the international wire transfer. All for a toll I was told was covered in the rental agreement. How in the world would I have known that one specific road was not covered? It is negligent not to tell your customer that there are limitations on what tolls and vignettes are covered. As their company suggests I Expect More from SIXT. I would expect them to reimburse me for what seems to be poor training and misleading advice. read more

I need to tell my experience. I always get my cars through Priceline because the price is always better. I noticed when I would get Sixt their cars were cleaner. Last week my car needed repair, so I decided to rent a car through Sixt. Mind you this is not my first time and I've rented so many cars through the airport since living here for 9 years. I figured this would be a smooth transaction. I rented the car maybe 15 minutes beforehand. I have also done this before at the airport when things have gone wrong with other companies. I was greeted by a young lady who told me since I had just reserved the vehicle I would need to provide a utility bill. I have never in all my years of renting a car needed to provide something of this nature. I found a bill online with that address and she informed me if I scheduled 24 hours ahead I wouldn't need to do this. I asked if this was a new policy and she said no. I said is that for the whole airport and she said yes, which was a lie. I'll get back to that. I told her thats interesting because this is not my 1st time renting with Sixt, but ok. A couple days later my car was still not fixed and I needed another rental, which I scheduled the same day at another rental location in the airport and had no issues. This is how I know she was not knowledgeable of the other rental locations and this was not an "airport" thing. Now we are here today, almost a 1 1/2 weeks later and I needed another car. I scheduled the car about an hour before pickup and thought I would try them again and hoping that by showing the address the last time would have me in their "system" or something and the last time was a fluke. As soon as I hand over my information, I'm told I HAVE to schedule 24 hours ahead of time since I am an Indiana resident. Now I'm asking how was I able to get the car the other week with showing my utility bill if that's the case. The young lady from that interaction was there and proceeded to tell me I was lying about the time I made the reservation the last time. I said No you specifically told me I had to show that information because I recently made the reservation. Why would I lie when I can pull up emails? They then told me I would have to go to a local Sixt. A manager comes out and I get his attention and tell him what is going on. He asks to see a utility bill. He notices the bill is not recent and then asks if I have rented with them before. I say yes, just a week or so ago! He then goes to the back and approves me to get the car. I have a conversation with him and he basically says due to their low inventory they prefer 24 hour notice and since I'm a resident and not a traveler they prefer us to use the local one. Which by the way is more than 30 mins away from where I live. I only live 15 mins away from the airport. I asked would I have this problem again and he tells me to let them know I've rented there before. My main issue is the lies and the fact that I would not be compensated if I had to wait 24 hours to get a vehicle. Mind you I am still without my personal vehicle and just renting to fulfill obligations. If your policy states you don't want to cater to residents, fine. State that and let us know ahead of time. Don't let us rent the same day through anyone. If we need 24 hours state that and make it clear! I just want to warn others before someone is left in a bad position. read more

If you get a flat tire (on a car with 27k mikes), they expect you to pay for a NEW tire or they will charge you $200 for them to replace it when you bring it back. One manager that my husband spoke to was downright RUDE! I called again to see why WE have to pay maintenance on THEIR car, but got nowhere. WARNING: if you have an evening flight do not rent from here. Upon making our reservation we had to enter our flight information, where I said our flight was set to land at 9pm. We ended up getting delayed and arrived at 10:45pm and when we arrived nobody was at the counter. We called the 1-800 number and they ensured us they would be open until 12am and to give them 15 mins. Nobody came and when I called again I was told they closed at 9pm on Fridays and we would have to pick up the next morning at 8am. Luckily we were able to get a car from National. Even if our flight was delayed we never would've been able to get our car before they closed. They should've had a warning or not allowed us to make a reservation. Incredibly frustrating experience. They may be cheaper but just save yourself the headache and book through a more reputable company. read more

Should have read the other reviews. By far the worst experience I've ever had trying to rent a car. When I rented the vehicle (two days earlier) they sent an email with instructions to pick up the rental, which directed me to call for a shuttle. I did. When I called, the man on the phone explained that they just hadn't updated their email and that I didn't need to call. Great news. He asked my name and told me their new location. I went to the new location... and waited. ...and waited. ...and waited. Eventually, a man emerges from underneath a desk (not kidding) and acknowledges that he sees me. He's franticly texting someone, then returns to his original position. Long story short, he didn't have the car I rented. He offered an "upgrade" --(pronounced, downgrade) and tried to convince me that I'd be happier with it. I wasn't, and offered to return the next day to get the car I'd rented, if he would simply compensate me for my trouble. Eventually, I ended up on the phone with this manager that he was texting, he said he could give me "something" if I would pay a premium rate today. I didn't want to pay the premium rate, for a sub-premium vehicle, so that he could give me a discount on a car I didn't rent. I got off the phone with him and the guy behind the counter started texting the manager again, shaking, nervous... I suspect their relationship is abusive. He acted like he was on his computer for quite some time before working up the nerve to tell me that the "manager" told him not to rent anything to me. I told him it wasn't his fault and encouraged him to seek employment elsewhere. I read through all the reviews and I must say that for a new rental car company, you guys are making a really great lasting impression.....not every lasting impression can be positive. Some companies simply exist in the negative. Good job Mr CEO overseeing a multi million dollar company. Not a good look for you. I'd like to give you multiple stars but I could only hit one....trust me, I don't have a neurological disorder that I know of. In summary I reserved my vehicle from your company on a Sunday. You would think that I would've been notified that your counter closes at 6 PM and my plane arrived shortly after 6pm to find that your counter was a ghost town. My conversation with customer service by phone was absolutely of no value and I'm now here In an Uber completing my travels. As a matter of good business practice I would entertain the possibility of using your company again ( like a second chance!) provided you afford me three days of a free rental simply to make good on your commitment to your customer...and a nice way to say "yeah, we kinda messed up." Our flight got cancelled 3/25/23. I had booked through Expedia but called Sixt immediately, even stopped by the their desk at the airport we were to have flown out of. I was told to contact Expedia, they had to cancel it. I did that. They were unable to reach anyone, they sent an email as their site says has to be done. I have yet to get my refund or any response from them 10 days later. Expedia is of no help either at this point. They marked us as a no show even though I had called them as soon as our flight got delayed and then when cancelled. I was assured it would be no problem. Well it is a problem now. I'm out nearly $500 and you only can reach their automated system. I would not recommend booking with them and a bit irritated with Expedia also whom I've used several times in the past with great service. read more

Horrible renting experience. The empty shuttle van just kept driving as I tried to wave her down. 10 minutes of calling, they never answered, guess they have to use Hotwire secret booking or NO one would ever use them. Not to mention they say they are at the airport but it's really a shuttle ride while the rest of the competition is right there when you walk out. Update, there is only one person working the front desk and yes the phone works. I heard it ringing. Because I was put to the back of the shuttle, even though I waited the longest. I am giving this location as well as the headquarters in general a 1 star rating. I wish there was a way I could give them none at all. I dropped the rental off back at Sixt. They checked me out, told me everything was okay, and asked how I wanted my receipt. I told them email is fine. I got on the shuttle and they took me to the airport so that I can pick up my actual car. By the time I got to the airport I received a receipt, in German, saying that they were charging me a $250 smoking/cleaning fee. I called the location where I rented the car and spoke to the branch manager. He told me that his employee mentioned it smelled like smoke and there were ashes everywhere. I told him I would be there in 10 minutes to see for myself. He also mentioned he took pictures and that they did not move the car. Once I got there I looked in the front and back seats and floors and there were no ashes. The car also did not smell like smoke. The branch manager brushed some white flakes which are from deodorant from my left underarm. I have the picture attached that they are claiming is small pieces of ash. Also the pieces would've went away if ash. They did not. On top of this 2 other employees came out and smelled and looked in the car and mentioned they did not see ashes and the vehicle did not smell like smoke. Also the shuttle driver came out and asked why I was back at the rental place. He smelled and looked at the car himself and said he didn't see ashes nor smell smoke. I asked the branch manager for the 3 employees names so that I can provide them when I called head quarters for evidence and he denied me their names. After calling headquarters they told me they will get it resolved within 24 hours and that I will receive a email. I had to call back 36 hours later because I did not receive a response. Once I called back they actually gave me a response and told me that "sorry their reply could not be a more favorable one. After a careful review of your claim there is no indication we failed in our responsibility. While we know you may be disappointed by our response, it is based on sound business practices which allows us to be fair and consistent." I'm not disappointed I'm actually offended and feel racially profiled. It seems like this is a common theme at this location. Not only will I share this review on Yelp, I will share it everywhere I possibly can... and will take this to court. As an update, Sixt, thank you for handling this situation. read more

The two stars is primarily due to the general customer service support number. At no point did it give me the ability to talk to a customer support representative. Every point it said something to the effect of please go the website, however the website did not have the answers I needed. However, I am hopeful with the Airport location. I was able to get though to them, and they were able to clarify questions I had. Which is the only reason I am giving Sixt a 3 star rating. They brought it up from 1. When I call customer support I don't want to get an automated system that the only end result is to "go to the website". Especially when that is where I spent time this morning looking for the answers for the questions I had. Disappointing! I rented a Toyota RAV at Ronald Reagan Airport, in Arlington, VA. The lady at the counter was extremely slow and did not seem to know what she was doing. Then, she tried to sell me expensive insurance packages. My reservation was through AARP together with the flight. I had already contracted for a $10/day insurance coverage. She said that this coverage would only cover me if the car was in movement! I refused and she eventually said they did not have the car I had reserved and would upgrade me to a BMW. When I got to the carpark upstairs, they gave me a Nissan Rogue and told me there was no BMW available; yet I could see several of them parked. The Nissan was difficult to operate and no one took the time to explain how things worked on the dashboard. I had to constantly refer to the manual, which is impossible to read. The gear handle was completely esoteric and no one bothered to ask if we knew how to operate it. There was no cruise control either. Then, upon returning the car, I left a pair of glasses in the storage compartment between the two front seats. Although this was my mistake, no one even checked the car to see if we had left items behind. Sixt's advertisement says: "Rent-"the"-car; well, next time I will rent "a" car with the traditional companies, whose employees are more helpful. read more

Went in to amend the $430 charge for a 27-hour rental - given the agreement from the Manager that the total charge would be $219 ($209 already billed to Hotwire). Manager claimed he couldn't give more than a 50% rebate through the system - this morning, I'm billed an ADDITIONAL $110. So that makes the entire bill for a one-day (27-hour) rental for an Economy class car $540 - about $20/hour. Growing even more suspicious of this place. Horrible experience- never again. I reserved a SCAR midsized vehicle with Sixt but when i arrived at counter was told they didnt have any the midsized cars so they forced me to take a midsized gas guzzling Voltswagon SUV. When i got into that SUV a warning light said "low pressure in one tire." Back into airport counter and Im told "well its on you if tire goes flat - we will give you another of same suv vehicle." Another agent comes in and THEN I'm told i must now take an even larger giant chevy Blazer SUV because "uhhh.. the smaller same model SUV (i saw in the garage) they offered me to replace the first one all the sudden "isnt in the system." (?!) They refused to give me anything else and the Blazer SUV was filthy inside and out - see photos- and did not appear to have been sanitized at all. They couldn't give me a printed receipt of any kind "our printer isnt working." So i drove out of the garage with nothing in hand and no service worker at exit to review any damage or check the car out like every other car rental I've ever used. I made them let me photograph the computer screen of the rental agreement with my PHONE!!!. They never sent me an email receipt for the first voltswagon suv and only sent one for the last filthy monstrosity suv they forced me to take. I took many photos of the car before driving away but failed to notice some scrape of paint and front headlamp which there is no way to report now and i wont be surprised if they try to charge me for this. I was supposed to have walked back into the airport for a third time to the car rental desk to report this. Sixt is the most badly run incompetent business i have EVER encountered in 35 years of renting cars. You end up paying for the discount in other ways like $5 a gallon in the tank of a giant SUV nobody in their right mind would ever rent right now!!! They need to make this right. read more

This place is awful. I had a reservation that I had paid in full 2 months prior to renting. I used a debit card as I don't have a credit card. I was told I needed a paper copy of a utility bill in order to rent the car.... shockingly, I don't normally travel with copies of my utility bills. It was an unfortunate situation, but just get a refund and go somewhere else right? Um, no. The manager was on vacation and apparently, to get a refund I'd need to wait until he came back... 5 days later. They literally gave me no other options besides, "sorry, you can't get a car and we can't get you your money back until next week, then it will be 3-5 days after that for the money to be returned to your account." I went back to the airport and rented from Avis.... it took 5 minutes and was $20 less. Don't even bother renting from Sixt. Just an update... nearly 3 months after my initial complaints, I did in fact get a refund. What took so long? I got the runaround from customer service, then was told to call the accounting department, who turned out did not have a phone? I was then given their email. Only to find out my case was behind reviewed by their home office in Germany. This of course took a better part of 10 days to figure out. Already upset with the handling of my rental. Booked a Mercedes Benz for tomorrow night and paid with a debit card, pre-paid which went through and everything is set up. Even have express pick up set up. Then I called today just to double check and confirm and was informed a debit card cannot be used for a premium vehicle. I could either switch down to a Kia/Camry or cancel and be charged $217. Ridiculous. Lady had an attitude and informed me that I could try my luck at the stand and maybe they'd make an exception. I even have a return flight on Sunday. So I'm screwed either way. They should never have accepted the debit card payment on a premium vehicle if a credit card is needed. Unless I can take the vehicle I booked, I will never book with Sixt again and will promote to my friends never to use this service. Stupid. Update: Nothing can be done. What a joke. I rented a car from Sixt at the Indianapolis airport for my race crew guys to use from 9/2 to 9/7. I had to prepay because I'm not the one who picks up the rental car. My plans changed so I canceled my rental car on 8/29, three days before my dates. I was told that because I had prepaid they would keep half of my payment (almost $200). Really? Misleading as this company is NOT located at the airport. I am a frequent traveler for my work and always park at the airport and walk down the parking garage, grab my rental, and off I go in less than 10 minutes. For whatever reason Sixt was all that available. I was unfamiliar with the company but the reservation said airport so figured how bad can it be? Very bad. Get to airport, spend 10 minutes wandering looking for the kiosk. Nothing. Go inside airport and look for a counter. Nothing. Ask another company (Avis or something) about the whereabouts and they explain to me kindly that it's off-airport and requires a shuttle. Immediately irritated as I have a meeting in an hour to attend so this will cut it close. The man also kindly explained I had better call them or they don't automatically make trips without a call. WTF So I call and then had to wait 20 minutes for the shuttle and then travel all the way over off of Sam Jones Expressway to the site. The site is shady. Immediately skeptical. Finally get the keys, and I have to walk out to a cold-ass car in the winter and even better it was a Kia that was awful. I did not make my meeting as this whole ordeal from start to finish took nearly an hour. I'm upset 1) false advertising as to the location, 2) no signs at the airport, no indications I should go to zone 3 and call, all this I had to get from a competitor company and, 3) service took forever and was poor quality. read more

Sixt Rent A Car is NOT a reputable company! Don't consider renting from them! I rented a car almost two years ago at the Denver Airport location. The night before I turned it in, there was a hail storm at the airport, affecting the hotel I was staying in and the rental car facility. My rental car, and almost one hundred cars at their facility were damaged. My insurance company paid for the damage to the vehicle. Now, they have turned me over to some fly by night, predatory collection agency, trying to rip me off for another $4500 that they can't really explain! They are threatening legal action, even though I sent them a copy of my signed rental contract, and it says NOTHING about the charges they're trying to extort from me! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Dirty cars always smell like refer smoke and have warning lights blinking all in the dash. The location is about 15 min shuttle ride from the airport, meaning NO WHERE NEAR THE AIRPORT. They run one shuttle at a time, so you'll be waiting for 30 mins at each end. Ridiculous that this is sorted as "on airport" in travel car rental sites. Get hertz, enterprise or even dollar rental, their counters are actually inside the airport and the cars are just out side. DO NO BOOK WITH SLOWXT. I'll never book with them again. Caution they win almost all the discount site bookings, so be careful using those sites in Indianapolis. read more
