This retail outlet is more like a wholesale outlet. The quality of everything they sell is excellent. And their prices are insanely low for the quality. They have a huge selection of every protein known to man. From fish, seafood, every type of meat, and some specialty items, this is the place. Since they are fish mongers, prepare for that smell when you walk in. That just means everything is fresh. Also, bring cash, besides a check, cash is all they take. I think they have an ATM, but bring cash just in case. This is a completely different experience but worth the quality and price. And they have a giant chalk board with their offerings and prices. The clams are hit or miss. This is the second batch That I have gotten that smell like ammonia . I steamed them to prepare for clam chowder. I will be dumping the chowder along with the clams. Felt like I found a place people Only find out by word of mouth. This place clearly puts quality above the rest because my whole red snapper (easily 3 pounds) looked like it was swimming right before I got there , they have a bigger selection than any grocery store and I'll say probably more than other fisheries in the area too. Bought 50 piece little neck and 50 piece top neck, threw out half the bag of little necks. Twenty out of fifty clams were open and dead on arrival home that day. Box was iced properly and there was plenty of ice in the box. Following day threw out another ten little necks. Top neck were excellent and fresh as expected. We do not blame the front desk for the back room employees but the packer should have known not to give us dead clams. It was pretty obvious that they were dead by the smell and that the clams were open. The front desk did not acknowledge the problem and offer any recourse or offer to make good on the next visit. Don't let the "Seafood" in their name fool you they also offer a very diverse and exotic selection of other proteins. All selections are listed on a huge menu posted on a wiper board on the sales floor. The selections don't stop there. They also offer a wide range of spices, sauces and batters to support meal prep. Spent a lot of money here to buy a huge once a year special seafood meal for my family in town. One by one shortly after dinner my family of 6 started to ALL fall dangerously ill off the supposedly "fresh" fish. I have to say worst food poising Ive personally ever experienced in my 54 years of life coming from a knowledgable fisherman who grew up on seafood. Ruined the rest of our family vacation, living in the bathroom and not leaving our beds side to get through the miserable next few days. The only family member who did not get sick was the one who opted out of the fish and only ate the lobster. Shame on you Direct Seafood for selling any old contaminated bacteria filled fish. What a great find! I drove from St. Cloud to get some fresh seafood. I want to start right away with the reason for four and not five stars. Like others have mentioned, when you order, they go to the back and pick up and pack your seafood choices. I like to point and pick, as did the lady in front of me. It just seems odd that you can't see it before purchasing. With that being said, we bought a fair amount and it was all fresh and tasty, and would go there again. The selection of seafood here is great. You're greeted by the huge menu right when you walk in - they have mostly everything. I was specifically looking to buy mussels and Yelp brought me to this place where I was surprised by the giant list of clams / mussels available. At about $4/lb, the black mussels are average price. They're not the cheapest I've ever seen but they're also not too expensive (mussel prices for me range about $2-$8 per pound depending on where I am in the United States.) I was interested to see that they had Green Lip Mussels on the menu that they sell in two pound increments - I made sure to pick some of those up too. The Green Lip Mussels are more expensive than the black mussels and are imported from Europe. They come frozen in a small box so they're definitely not too fresh if you're looking for something fresh caught. The interior is plain with a few goods to complement your seafood meal (breadcrumbs, rice, sauces, etc.). It seems a bit old with outdated carpet and a small wooden bench. You place your order with the man at the counter and he asks his coworkers in the back to bring it to you. I would have liked to see the selection of seafood but they were all in the back. I recommend calling the front desk ahead of time to see if they carry what you're looking for - I'm not sure how much of each item they keep in stock but the guy at the front is helpful in telling you what there is. I was really disappointed to see that some of my mussels have gone bad. They gave me the mussels in a brown bag and I didn't open them until I got home. When I opened it at home about 25% of my mussels were already open, which means they were dead. We checked the mussels immediately after we got home (we didn't accidentally kill them ourselves, they were dead at the store) and had to discard the ones that stayed open even after we tapped on them. What a waste of food and money! I wonder how many people come here to buy meats other than seafood. They have a huge selection of duck, chicken, veal, pork, etc. but I wonder if those sell. If they shortened their menu and put a little more effort into selling seafood that hasn't gone bad, I would've appreciated it a lot more. This place does not accept card - only cash and check. If you're thinking about buying a lot of seafood at one time this can be a bit of a hassle. I was lucky enough to have some money on me. There is an ATM inside the store if you forget cash. CASH only! But as good as it can get. Truly the best and highlight of my visit here to Cocoa Beach. I have also attached some pricing that they have posted on the board. Truly a "Gem" spot for locals and tourist that wants to enjoy some fresh seafood! Seriously they even have snow crab legs for $8 a pound ! Like who could beat that! Seriously such a wonderful place.
