Thrive and Shine is the best! I was referred to them through my pediatrician who had recommended Physical Therapy for my daughter. They were extremely responsive and professional. I was able to set up an appointment immediately and they explained the types of services prior to my arrival. My daughter was very scared of physical therapy since she had not done it before and our therapist was so kind and patient with her and us! I have been taking my son to Thrive and Shine for about 6-7 months, and unfortunately my experience has been very disappointing. Last November, my son was very sick and in and out of the hospital almost the entire month. His doctor provided a letter stating he needed to rest. We informed the clinic ahead of time that he would miss speech sessions due to his medical condition, and he ended up missing three sessions that month. Instead of showing understanding, they called and told us he was terminated for missing sessions. When I explained we had a doctor's note and had already notified them, I was told he should have attended via telehealth (Zoom). This was never clearly communicated as a requirement, and honestly, he was too sick to participate in any form of therapy, even online. I had to push back strongly just to get him reinstated, especially knowing how long the waitlists are to get therapy services in the first place. More recently, they told us he would be terminated unless he enrolls in occupational therapy. My son already receives occupational therapy at school, and adding another program would likely mean more missed school days, since he already misses school twice a week for speech. It feels unreasonable to pressure families into additional services under the threat of termination. Additionally, the therapist seems more focused on the clock than the quality of care. Sessions do not start even a minute early, yet end around the 24-minute mark because according to the therapist "5 minutes are for charting." On top of that the therapist asks my son for breaks every 5 minutes which disrupts the flow of therapy. Another concern is that the therapists do not appear to be trained in using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, which is a major gap for children who rely on them. Families seeking therapy services deserve compassion, flexibility, and child-centered care not greediness, especially when dealing with medical issues. Sadly, that has not been our experience here. I got a referral to Thrive and Shine Speech Therapy from my son's Pediatrician. He has been assess by Saint John's Medical Center Speech Pathologist and it was recommended that he see's a speech therapist twice a week, unfortunately they didn't have this service. So I have been searching around for a place for him to get his required therapy. I recently lost my job because of lay off's and had to give up our medical insurance. Murphy Law in Now in effect: lost Job, lost Medical Insurance, and now I cant afford the wonderful montessori school. My child pediatrician is a wonderful lady who recommended that I apply for emergency Medi-Cal and she will create a referral for Thrive and Shine. Well I did my part and she did hers. I received the referral a month later, I called Thrive and Shine several times and left multiple messages and I have not received and call back. One day I decided to try on more time, while sitting in the lobby of the medical center where they are located. They still didn't answer, but I know they are there so I called 6 times and finally someone answer. Not the one to dwell on the past, I am just excited to get someone on the phone. I told the young lady I have a referral from Dr. Key to bring my son for a speech therapy assessment. Off bat she was negative, "Well we don't take Medi-Cal", "But, I have a a referral","Well I need to see this referral." We went through this back and forth finally we made a appointment for 3 weeks in the future. I have to say I didn't remember the appointment, because life happens and I didn't get a reminder call or appt. She said she will send me something with the address and information on it, I didn't received that either. But I still should have put the date in my phone, my fault totally. They called me to reschedule, but the day before the appointment I got into a car accident. I called Thrive to let them know that I can't make the appointment today because I am without a vehicle. She proceeds to tell me about how other parents are always on time, and unfortunately she will not be rescheduling. At this point I am pissed, I told her I am not other parents and "fuck it" we don't need speech therapy from you, and I hung up. "SHE CALLED BACK!!! JUST TO TELL ME ABOUT MYSELF...!!!! Of course I hung up again after dropping some choice words and a couple of f-bombs. I am pretty sure if I had my old PPO insurance she would not have been so passive aggressive. Thrive may have the best speech therapist in the world but doesn't mean a damn thing if your front desk passive aggressive- WANNABE-elitist who only makes $11-$15 an hour. A little modicum of power she feels sitting in the front desk at Thrive, makes her come off like the shop lady from Pretty Woman. She is methodical, responsive, super cool, and my son who is 2.5 years old loooooves her! She uses the right amount of authority and love for our little one which produces great results, and I couldn't be happier that they paired our toddler with her. When my son started his sessions with Tina, he didn't say even 1 word regularly at 2 years old. He was diagnosed with speech delay. After a few sessions with Tina, I immediately see that my son learned how to communicate by signing and after a few more sessions, he was saying MAMA! For our family, the whole experience in Thrive and Shine was very positive. My son started speech therapy when he was two years old. We went to the company clinic two times a week. Recently he turned three and the therapy service through the Regional Center was terminated. Looking back to the passed year, our family could not thank enough for Tina, the therapist in Thrive and Shine who taught our son to gradually speak and communicate. Here are some details: (1) We speak to our son mostly in our mother language, Mandarin. As his pediatrician suggested, Mandarin is a more difficult language than English and we should speak to our son in Mandarin as much as possible before the age of three. Our son could only speak about five words when he was 18 month old. Through Regional Center, we were eligible for speech therapy service, and we were very lucky to meet Tina, who can also speak and teach Mandarin. (2) Tina is kind, passionate, and professional. She knows how to adjust the teaching environment to help our son concentrate and learn. Our son is easily distracted and usually runs everywhere. Tina picked a smaller room with fewer toys in the shelf and let our son sit on a chair against the wall with the working table in front of him. This strategy greatly improved his attention to Tina's teaching. She knew how to organize and transit different speaking activities during the 45-minutes session so our son never got bored learning speaking while playing. She also knew how to evoke our son's motivation and she quickly earned his trust and heart. He was excited and looked forward to his speaking class with Tina every time. We also felt very supported that Tina was always very open and patient to discuss with us about our son when we needed and shared her observation and information. (3) The environment of Thrive and Shine is good. The waiting area is pretty spacious and clean. They have several therapy classrooms. The front desk staff and other therapists are nice. Our son liked to say hi and bye to everyone, and they were all very responsive and friendly to him. Most important of all, our son's speaking skill reached to normal range for his age after a year of therapy under Tina's instruction in Thrive and Shine. We feel really grateful! read more

30 minutes late - This therapist has still not arrived at my house. She contacted me 20mins after our appointment time to ask where my apartment is. She did not apologise at all. I told her based on what she has said our appointment will only start at 14:30. Still no apology. I then waited for her anyway since we have waited so long to get a therapist in place and then noticed this text message had come through: "Mom I'm sorry that a parent was talking to me and I had trouble finding the place. I'm really sorry about that. You want me to come at 2 tomorrow? Again, im really sorry." I then received a call from her office from someone who was trying to arrange a different appointment time and said that the therapist said I wanted her to come tomorrow instead. We have an appointment for tomorrow already so I would never have said this. The person who called did not appreciate my explanation or disappointment and told me I am disrespectful for not letting her speak. I am baffled at the treatment we have had from this provider and I cannot discourage the use of their services in stronger terms. I have no strong feelings about my own treatment but their lack of empathy or insight into how their lackadaisical and unprofessional behaviour impacts on children I find unacceptable. To add insult to injury Tina, who was supposed to see our son, her excuse was that she was chatting to someone and couldn't find the place. This is her job. Going to people's houses is part of it I don't accept she still has no method to find where she is going. Being willing to put off the treatment of a boy who desperately needs it I find completely unpalatable. This quite apart from the fact that she lied to her office about the fact that I would prefer her to come tomorrow when that would clearly mean our son gets only one of his sessions not both. I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated. My son needs treatment and we need a provider who cares about that. Totally rude, disrespectful, unprofessional and incompetent supplier. read more

When I first visited Neda for a consult she provided her expert evaluation and therapy services for a multitude of communication disorders I had. Neda and her specialized therapists worked together to provide a total treatment approach that included home programs to help me reach my treatment goals. I can't thank her enough for the change she has made in my speech. Neda takes an integrative and innovative approach, in each and every individual and has a specific plan of action, designed exclusively for their needs. I was referred to Thrive and Shine and by the time I was able to get a hold of them, the worker there was so rude and unprofessional! We've been playing phone tag and she made it seem like I wasn't calling back or responding to their calls. She said, "I've been calling you since Jan. 29th". I responded back, "I've been calling back and leaving messages!". It was my first time talking to this person and she's already playing the blame game. She kept referring to my son as a "she". Our son Edrian was diagnosed with speech delay as well as autism (found out later). The regional center had this facility to handle my son's with his speech issue, Neda and the therapist were very helpful. Edrian was a very shy kid, and after going to the therapy sessions, he has grown to be less shy and talk more. Edrian just turned three, hence the service stopped and LAUSD to take over, but I can't thank this place enough, the therapy did not only give Edrian to chance to engage with speech but positive social impact, you showed my family an assurance that Edrian would be a normal kid, and for those we are grateful. Kudos to Midelys Deida for taking care of and working with my son. My son was diagnosed with speech delay. He started his therapy about when was 1 1/2 years old. Now on his 3rd birthday he is finally done. His therapist was so helpful, very commutative when it came to my son's age expectations & always patience with him. Not only does my experience count but his as-well. My son went to Thrive and Shine when he was around one and a half and we saw so much improvement! He's now 3 and has a vast vocabulary. Carolina was his therapist and we loved her. The office has great energy, everyone is friendly and patient. Never had one bad experience taking my little one. So grateful for Thrive and Shine for taking care of my baby! Parking can be tricky so make sure to read the signs and pay the meter a little more if you think you may take longer than the allotted time. We had a wonderful experience!! This process was wonderful. We could not be happier. Tina quickly earned trust with my son, learned how he worked and then was the key to opening up his language. She became his friend and her visits became his favorite part of the week. We had to teach him how to read the clock so that he knew when to look out of the window for Tina to arrive. Now, he will not stop talking and corrects himself when he mis-speaks. On top of language, Tina got him to clean up his toys and to say please when he's asking for something.
