Paula has a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system. Which is critical - The last thing I want to do is train wrong and do more damage. Initially, I began training with Paula because of a rotator cuff injury. Paula 's knowledge of anatomy and how the body builds and heals muscles is above and beyond what I expected. ( Experienced she gained from Dental School) I no longer have any issues with my shoulder and still, train with Paula three days a week. Both inside and outside of her studio. Every session with Paula is different, working different parts of the body in the most innovative and fun workouts ever. Yes, they are fun, but also intense, I often have a pleasant soreness after our workouts, but have never been injured from pushing myself hard. Her methods involve weights, stretches, yoga, a little bit of everything, they are very effective. She allows me to push myself further than I would typically my gains have been impressive. Especially when old friends I haven't seen in a long while notice. Recently I attended a "Bootcamp" type training session at another gym just for fun, but without Paula and Karissa's watchful eye and guidance on correct form (her mantra) I injured my knee :-( Mea culpa, won't do that again! Go now while you can still get in! They are THAT good! Most importantly her gym is spotless and has most everything needed for training. It is easy to get to and has plenty of parking. I really liked the personal space/attention. It is nothing like a big gym with all the noise and tons of people. I have been working out here at The Pilates Path Studio for almost 7 years. When I first started Pilates in Los Angeles 9 years ago, I had the opportunity to work with several instructors in four studios. I found a few instructors who served no better purpose than to tell me what to do and count off the repetitions for me. I found another who injured me each time I worked out with her. Then about a year before I left L.A., I found my wonderful instructor and hated to leave her. I was very concerned about finding someone here in the Coachella Valley who was just as talented. I wanted to find someone who gave me a workout that would challenge me without injuring me. I had no luck with the first instructor I tried in Cathedral City, so driving by the Pilates Path Studio, I called them and spoke with Shary. I told her what I was looking for in an instructor. All it took was a couple of lessons before I realized that I struck gold. I find it incredible that as I grow older, I grow more well defined muscles. Different muscles that weren't there even two years ago have popped up. My abs are so strong, it's amazing to me. I was on a flight recently waiting for the restroom and the flight attendant asked me if I did Pilates. "Was it my posture?", I asked. She said she could "just tell". I am now working out with Josie because Shary has retired and only works a few months per year. Josie is just as talented as Shary. She gets me to think about so many things as I do the movements, that if I arrive uptight, all is forgotten within 10 minutes. I walk out of there taller, stronger, more flexible and content. I am writing this to help the snowbirds and transplants who love their Pilates instructors. You can have faith that the instructors don't go through the motions with you here. They work hard in their coaching, and you will reap the benefits. Any locals who want to give Pilates a try, start here. I have been training for over 15 years with the Super Slow method [which when guided properly is awesome for any age]. When my past trainer left the area, I was referred to The Body Syndicate. Lots of promises and assurances that she was skilled with Super Slow -- she was not. She was mostly going through the motions during our five sessions. I approached the owner who offered another trainer - none were skilled with the Super Slow Method. I asked for my balance of unused sessions to be refunded. He stated, " Read the agreement. If I was unhappy, Tough. Sue me." He knew I wouldn't. I choose to use this process and comments let others know to be very wary about this group although World Gym [not affiliated] is a superb facility overall.
