We were referred to Thrive last fall because our golden retriever was building a lot of fluid primarily in his abdomen and chest but was active and had no other symptoms. Thrive performed several tests including an echocardiogram and a CT scan. They couldn't find anything, so they concluded he probably had mesothelioma which is fatal. We knew mesothelioma was extremely rare and usually presented with a cough and fatigue. It would have also been especially unusual because he had never been exposed to asbestos. When we said we were confused because he had no cough or other symptoms that would point to that diagnosis, Thrive said that "goldens are like that"--meaning they don't tell us when they're sick. When we asked them what we should do, they told us to "just let him be a dog." The clear message was that he was dying and we should just make the most of our time with him. We then took him back to our regular vet and spent thousands over the next few months trying to treat him based on what Thrive said. When he still didn't start coughing or showing any new symptoms we took him to the University of Wisconsin where they did a repeat echocardiogram and immediately diagnosed him with a fully treatable heart condition. Today he is completely cured. He never had mesothelioma. We came way too close to euthanizing our dog based on what Thrive said. We ultimately spent thousands treating a condition he didn't have and put our beloved dog through so much that wasn't necessary. The right thing for Thrive to do would have been to recommend other places to go for additional diagnostic testing; we certainly would have investigated other options if we thought we had any. We wrote a letter to Thrive recently explaining our disappointment that they didn't find his condition on the echocardiogram and instead defaulted to a fatal rare condition, but their management hasn't responded. Thrive is part of a group of nearly 400 vet clinics owned by a private equity firm. In reading the PE's website content we got the impression that profitability is the priority. Your mileage may vary, but our experience was unnecessarily expensive and very nearly tragic. Had Thrive management bothered to respond they might get another star. read more

The staff the doctors they're carrying souls that they have my baby Sheldon has a spine disease diagnosed maybe six months ago I went to my local vet not satisfied there had the opportunity to go to Thrive and I think God I did because my dog is thriving. He's had a couple little things we went today actually they changed up some medication and thanks to them. We saw Dr. Curran and she has been incredible. We have seen several specialists over the years for both of our dogs and she is BY FAR the best that we have ever seen. Our dog Bill has so much going on right now and she did an incredible job taking in all the information and coming up with recommendations for testing and next steps. We brought our minature pinscher here in December. We live out of state and we were visiting family in IL He started to have some difficulty breathing and when we tried to make an appt with the vet, they said he would have to go to a pet emergency room, which unfortunately was about 30 minutes or so from where we were at. We called ahead of time that we were bringing out dog in, but unfortunealy his condition took a turn for the worst on our way there and he passed away before we even made it there. When we got there, the staff was very respectful. They came out to our car curbside with a gurnee for our pet. While they confirmed our dogs passing, another staff member went over our options. After we did, they brought our dog to us and could spend as long as we wanted to with him. We took a little vial of his hair as a way to remember him. The whole process was very smooth. We even got a handwritten card a couple weekly later from the MD and staff. We had a good experience, even though it was a sad one. read more

We have taken our dog here for surgery and also for emergency services and all of those times have been wonderful and excellent customer service. The Surgery went well and they were very good to our dog. The atmosphere is very nice and very, very clean and the staff is always very helpful and very attentive and they listen to your needs. I took my dog Charlie there for emergency services and the vet (I'm sorry I forgot her name) seemed very intelligent. She was able to diagnose my dog's bladder stones when my regular vet thought it might be something else. I thought I was going to lose him that day with and I was so scared. She gave him meds for the vomiting and we have a diagnosis now. I actually like her better than my regular vet. I don't know if they do surgeries. read more

This emergency vet is will run. When we first came in we saw Dr. Granger. He told us everything that was going on with our dog "Chloe " He answered all our questions. She was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia (IHMA). We also saw Dr. Hoffberg who managed her blood draws and other test to get her IHMA under control. We also saw Dr. Puzio. The doctors all worked together to take care of "Chloe ". They made me feel at ease. I could tell they genuinely cared for her. Dr. Granger gave me great advice about hiding her pills in baby food and it worked. I would also like to shout out the assistant Yasmin. She was always there with a smile and treats. Chloe loved her. They make you feel at ease and care for your dog as if it was your own. read more

We were taken such good care of by the team at Thrive! We brought our dog Pepper in for help diagnosing a possible case of lymphoma. Our vet was kind and supportive, providing a positive outlook through our fears. Today Pepper received an ultrasound and fine needle aspirate for testing. He was so at ease with the vet team that he didn't require any sedation! The team was communicative, answered our questions with ease, and made us feel like we will be taken care of, no matter the outcome of the biopsy. If I could give zero stars I would. I'm not going to go through the whole process, just explain why you should never go here. This was our third emergency hospital that we went to, to try to save our pup. We knew the odds we're not in our favor but we we're going to chance it. That is not on them. However, they asked us if we wanted to resuscitate in case anything went wrong during surgery and we said no. Our biggest concern was quality of life. Well our baby didn't even make it to surgery. While they we're prepping her, she apparently was too weak for the surgery. The front desk lady asked if we wanted to go back and see her before the surgery. We absolutely did. The front desk lady said okay, come on back and started walking us towards the door (which has a window on it and faced the main entrance) then she stopped, said wait a second and started walking back towards the front desk, turned around and proceeded to let us in. As she opened the door, we saw 5-6 emergency staff performing CPR on our baby. All of them pushing down on her, her tongue was flopping around, it was horrible. I screamed and ran out of the room. At this point, my mom and sister were walking into the hospital to meet us there, to support us, and they saw it too, as soon as they walked in through the main front doors. Unbelievable that, that is the last image I have of my whole entire world. In addition, I didn't like the two urn options. They said they would send out an e-mail for us to choose a different one, but to pick one for now. Never go the e-mail, didn't even know what to look out for. Our cat Mindy died because of wrong diagnosis. We told them we believe she was poisoned. We told them her sister pulled through a few weeks ago. But they said root canal. It was too late for Mindy to start treatment. And she had to suffer. It was expensive and for nothing. We are angry and heartbroken. read more

I've always had the best customer service dealing with Briana at the front desk at Thrive. She's professional, respectful , friendly, doesn't rush you, caring and always goes above and beyond for her customers. I always make sure to see her when checking in and out. After all my fur baby has been through she's really made my waiting and visits easy and pleasant ones. I always recommend Thrive to my friends and family. We see Oncology Dr Wiseman is great, Internal Medicine btw Dr Curran is amazing! And Cardiology. I've been taking my fur baby to Thrive now a little over a year. She had cancer and is now currently in remission since August. Her appointments are frequent and her scans can take some time, but I'm happy the customer service is great especially from Briana and The Doctors are amazing! Amazing place! Thrive was the 1st medical staff that understood immediately, our 2.5yr old shihtzu was dying. I had been bringing her to local emergency clinic for 3 straight days pleading to help her, explaining she wasn't right, being told well she's on the protocol. But her gums were ghost white, not eating, no energy, vomitting. My girl is alive today thanks to the amazing Thrive staff and Dr Hoffberg and Dr. Puzio. They quickly triaged her, diagnosed her with IMHA, Immune mediated hemolytic anemia. This crazy disease comes out of nowhere, causes the dogs immune system to attack it's own red blood cells, severe anemia. Thrive admitted her, gave her multiple blood transfusions after carefully matching her blood to donors, meticulously finding the best blood, calling us daily and nightly with updates and emailing us photos of her in their care. Her case was so severe, after her 2nd blood transfusion she had a splenectomy. She recovered well, after a 10 day hospital stay, she's back home, on many meds, under careful home care and close Dr follow up monitoring. She's bright eyed, spunky, happy young girl with hopefully many more yrs ahead. Thank you to all the staff at this incredible facility and staff. read more

I followed Dr. Mirriam, a veterinary internist, to Thrive when she moved from her previous clinic. She treated my sweet cat Emily for FIV-related immune deficiency for over 18 month, keeping her alive and happy for many months longer than expected. I'm very grateful to Dr. Mirriam and her technician CJ for their lovely care of Emily. Dr. Mirriam treats my two senior cats who have chronic conditions and she much improves the quality of their lives. Our beloved Livie died a horrific death April 8, 2025 @a result of inadequate care,guidance&communication from Dr Hyatt, neurologist, who Livie was assigned to@discharge & to follow up w/5 days later.During her stay, the care team was friendly, kind,caring.. they just adored her during her stay&rightfully so, she was truly the sweetest little girl. There's a great lack of communication throughout the facility, something as simple@what # to call w/updates was an issue. We know vet care can be costly, her 5.5 day stay@the facility was $14,480 for a spot on the floor in the corner, obviously some of which was meds. But the gouging cost of meds@the facility is outrageous. What is available@costco for $60 would've cost $600@thrive. They also couldn't provide us w/a detailed invoice w/dates, so we were left to wonder if we were even charged probably@there's no way of us to know how to read the invoice. It's sad to know many families have no choice but to euthanize based on the cost&not being able to afford care. We couldn't necessarily afford it but our girl means the world to us, she was more than just a dog. While they have 1 less patient off the books we're left to pick up the pieces of our shattered hearts&lives which include a littermate brother Cash & housemate Leia. We're not sure how to move on from this, it's just devastating..especially since it should've NEVER happened. We also know not every pet will have the same experience, all we can share is what happened with our sweet girl Livie, just 1 week after her 9th birthday. Had Dr Hyatt provided us w/the proper dosage of medication needed, our girl would be rolling in the backyard soaking up the sun today, instead she's waiting in line to be cremated&I would be starting my sunflower seeds but instead am looking for the perfect urn for when she comes home. This loss is truly maddening, sad, infuriating along w/many many other emotions. We also were taken back by another provider during her stay, Dr Puzio, when we discussed our exp @ companion ER the morning before Livie went to thrive, she said she'd give same diagnosis & that meant ignore her 105* fever and mega esophagus & less than 12 hours after being@companion she was admitted to thrive ICU. Companion ignored her fever&sent her home w/a med to soothe her throat, as she was spitting up from her mouth&nose.They did xrays&didn't note the mega esophagus that was apparent on the images. Our initial experience w/the office was MUCH different than now, this is horrible beyond belief & we hope no other families have to go through this. None of this review reflects on the caring nurses, techs and assistants, and majority of the front desk, except the issue w/communication, including which # to call for updates. I am not a hateful person but I am beyond mad about what happened and Livie's death is the most horrific end & needs to be told This should have NEVER HAPPENED read more

We took our dog Norie to Thrive last month for a consultation with neurology and ended up not moving forward without doing an MRI and told ourselves if she had another episode we'd do it. Fast forward to Saturday March 15th after going to our primary we found out our sweet girl had internal bleeding and needed a transfusion. Thinking back to our initial experience with Thrive I decided I wanted to take her here to get treatment. They kept her overnight and answered my calls overnight when I called to check on her which I appreciated. Unfortunately on Sunday after an ultrasound was conducted it appeared she had a bunch of tumors. We decided to bring her home and scheduled an at home euthanasia for Monday. However in the middle of the night Norie collapsed and was struggling, in my panic I called Thrive and talked through things with Chris and ultimately decided to take her back to Thrive. Chris and a few others met us and helped get her out of the car and into the building where we made the decision to euthanize her there, her body had gone into shock. It was not what I wanted for my baby girl but I am so thankful for the staff and their kindness during such a tragic time for us. Chris was there both nights and made our family feel better throughout the whole process. If your pet is going through something and you don't know where to take them I highly recommend taking them to Thrive. read more

Brought my Doberman in with neck pain, paid almost $300 for an examination fee when all the vet did was make an assumption of what was wrong instead of ordering imaging to see exactly what is wrong with my pet. Left with orders to return for another examination if the issues did not get better with medicine. When I called to do another examination because it has not gotten better they explained how expensive it was compared to my other vet and did not want to help any further. If I hadn't paid cash I would dispute this charge. Incompetence at its finest. This vet will talk for an hour and make you feel as if he knows what he is talking about when in reality it's just a scam to charge you a bogus examination fee. read more

At this location my dog had several medical issues...one of the main issues - he was in respiratory distress and was placed in an oxygen chamber. I asked the Critical Medical Director/Vet that my dog had suffered respiratory distress the previous week and a different pet hospital put him on "hi-flow" oxygen (oxygen delivered through nose tubes) and the Medical Dir. told me that the oxygen chamber is very similar and her recommendation was to keep him in the oxygen chamber. The next day my dog was not doing better with his breathing and a different Vet at this clinic told me (after I was pushing for the "hi-flow" oxygen system) that their "hi-flow" system is not operable and has never been operable since they were mailed out the wrong plugs (European plugs). Not only was I never informed my their Medical Dir, but also was not told by a tech, or their front desk person that their "hi-flow" system isn't operable when I brought up this suggestion to them... I feel, I was grossly mislead by this hospital and as it turned out after day 2 a decision was made by us to utilize euthanasia for my dog since his breathing was very labored and he still wasn't doing well. read more

I can't say enough about the kind and compassionate care we received recently during an emergency situation with our dog. The facility is clean, efficient and the staff was very compassionate. It is challenging to be in those situations and they responded so quickly and thoroughly getting in touch with our own vet and our cardiologist in Northfield all before we even arrived after I just placed one call asking if they could see us emergently. They already knew my Cody's story before we walked in the door!!! Unfortunately we had to return the following day, again urgently, to help our boy across the rainbow bridge and once again, phenomenal care and compassion. It was not our first experience with euthanasia but certainly one of the best, patient kind non hurried experience for our family and our Cody. Overall, I would highly recommend Thrive. Afterwards took the time to review their information pamphlet and see that they offer many options for vet specialists so keep that in mind as well if your pet is in need of specialist this would be your place read more

I even sat through a shift change, next set of office staff did the same thing. They are cold, no empathy and just don't seem to want to help. Definitely go somewhere else.
