I have been bringing my dog to your clinic since he was a puppy, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. When I came in recently to have him put down, I was already going through one of the hardest moments a pet owner can face. Unfortunately, the girl at the front counter was very rude to me when I first arrived. Her tone and attitude made an already painful situation even harder. It was only after she realized we were there as a walk-in to put him down that her demeanor changed. No one should be made to feel unwelcome or disrespected during such a heartbreaking moment. I hope you consider hiring and training staff who truly love what they do and understand the compassion required in this field. Besides that the vet and nurses were super sweet, supportive, and nice. The people who works here care about their customers pet companion. The price is not bad and service was excellent. People are so friendly and the ambiance is not bad at all. The most important is when our cat Persephone died and we brought it to them to be cremated. We received a card from them each member of the staff wrote a short note how sorry they are for our lost. This is my NEW vet! My dog needed a bladder stone surgery and not only was the cost WAY below what other vets were charging in the area ($2000 LESS), but my baby girl was treated SO well! They followed up for a wellness check, as well as telling me what kind of stone it was, and recommended she be put on a special dog food. They ordered it for me and I arranged for a repeat order so I'm never without it. The office is SO caring and accommodating. If you love your pet please read this it may help someone if your dog needs sedation Someone recommended me to take our dog here Because we were in need of 2nd opinion It was actually a 3rd opinion so we would've tried anything because we love her soo much First of all the Doctor walked in the room mind you never met him before he didn't even introduce himself (he said my names on my coat) So he recommended 8 shots over a 4 weeks But also wanted another X-Ray to compare to the ones we had from the first vet, and she would need sedation The first place also sedated her but she was still crying during the x-ray, so it was pretty much like twilight not fully sedated. They called us. We picked her up from the first place and she was perfectly fine, So Friday she went to Dr. Dhilion we dropped her off at like 8:30 AM and they will call us when she's done, first of all no one ever called me I called them at around 12:30 PM and said is everything OK? and the girl said I think she's done. Do you want me to go check? I said you can go check and Call me back, now. It's already almost 4 PM no one ever called me!! and we live like an hour away so I called them back and the girl put me on hold and came back on said yes you can come and get her she walked in there just fine except for limping reason we were there, when my husband went in he was shocked he felt she wasn't herself because he literally had to help her get in the car but 8am hoped in the car perfect like always but ok she was still very sedated when she got home she just wasn't herself at all her eyes said it, we did get horrible news about her, we took it really hard the doctor gave her pain meds and said maybe 9 months we'd have with her and so all we wanted was to make her soo happy and comfortable, decide what we will do next later, but life took a turn the next day our dog was throwing herself like a ball all over our room she was having seizure after seizure she's a big girl I'm gonna skip to Monday after the seizures I called the doctor and I asked him what did you give my dog and he gave her a combination of three different sedatives for an x-ray!! not surgery an x-ray I said why did you give her three different medication's he said I give all dogs her breed in her size that much medication for an x-ray. I'm like well, the last place gave her one shot and she was barely knocked out. She was still crying during the x-ray. He said well that's how he does it. It's a three different kind of sedation medication Secondly, I told him you have no compassion. We're new patients there you never even introduced yourself nothing and like I said he said well my name is on my coat. He said that he is pretty much overwhelmed and he's like going to cut down on walk- ins I said maybe you should maybe you should hire help he said he's been trying I'm like you should smile he said he don't smile I'm like ok cause I ask I know this is a lot but Our furry girl is GONE!! And all he said, sorry for you loss im not starting my day like this and hung up on me!! Yes, it may be a little busy at times but if you have an appointment you shouldn't have a problem. I want you guys to see how these people left my dog. My 10 year old dog got breast cancer & my parents ended up taking her to get surgery on Thursday 4/14. They ended up bringing her back on Tuesday 4/19 because her stitches seemed like they opened & there was a FOUL smell plus pus. All the doctor said to do was "put hydrogen peroxide & animax ointment. Tell me who puts hydrogen peroxide on an open infected wound like this? It delays the process ! It's mind boggling to me they would even recommend such a thing & then say it's "NORMAL". Tell me how does this look normal ? And this is coming from other VETERINARIANS who I called for answers. And then not only that, they blamed US for this. They said it was OUR fault. We didn't operate on her YOU did. You guys even knew you left the stitches on too tight. My dog is wearing a collar & my mom is home all day to watch & take care of her. Coco doesn't even move much she just sleeps all day so tell me how could she do this to herself? And then you want to charge extra for a complication that YOU caused. Just money hungry. Been with Dr. Dhillon many years. Followed him when he opened his own place. Knowledgeable. Always taken good care of my fur babies as well as many rescue/fosters over the years. A word of caution when it comes to techs and staff that work there. Many do not have experience dealing with fractious pets and definitely not feral cats when they are brought in for spay/neuter and needed vetting. Had to find a different vet with staff that had experience working with feral cats. About 2 years ago. We took in two healthy senior dogs for dental cleaning. Did all the necessary bloodwork, fluids, etc. One dog was fine the other aspirated during the dental cleaning. They did not tell us when we picked them up - the dog was not herself; told us it was the drugs and she would be fine. They continued to deny there was a problem later on that night - even when the dog saw an ER vet and diagnosed with aspirated pneumonia. The story does not end well after many vet visits treatments, she never recovered and was humanely euthanized 2 months after dental cleaning. We continued to use Dr Dhillon until recently. It became clear that Dhillon's answer for senior pets; especially those with chronic illnesses/special needs that require ongoing labor intense care. EUTHANIZE. This reminds me sadly of another vet practice that we left because of their attitude toward special need pets and seniors. Thought Dr Dhillon was different he is not. I am aware that you do need to think of quality of life for a pet/furry family member. I will not allow them to suffer, but not euthanize right away when the going get tough. Give them a chance to see they can recover and have quality of life. read more

I highly recommend this clinic. If you'd like to save our pet and your money, I'd highly recommend Elgin Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Dhillon recommended a holistic approach to my dog's elbow dysplacia , involving food as medicine, high quality targeted supplements, exercise recommendations, weight loss, elbow brace and a low risk medication. Contrary to the VCA in Schaumburg who recommended a high risk and very expensive medication, referral to expensive orthopedic doctors, no specific supplementation, no food recommendations, no weight loss or exercise recommendations. Very responsive to all questions and thoroughly answering the questions. These changes have already made a significant difference in her limp and I am confident will contribute to avoiding or delaying further degeneration by focusing on treating the condition rather than the symptoms. DR. Dhillon also met with me in person, provided documentation for me to review further regarding the proposed treatment protocol and patiently, fully described the basis for his recommendations. At VCA, I wasn't allowed into the facility with my dog to discuss her condition and received nothing in writing, other than the charges. I had to request the x-rays be sent to me. I was advised she was not cooperative during x-rays costing over $400 and provided a sedative for "next time" at a cost of $30, rather recommending the xrays be delayed until she could be brought back sedated or asking me into the office to assist in keeping her calm to secure optimal x-rays. The medication provided didn't result in a significant difference and, I later find out, is accompanied by adverse side effects. Much like human doctors, veterinary doctors seem to now favor prescribing medications despite serious side effects and expensive "specialists" rather than treating the whole patient and spending time with the patient to fully understand their condition and fully explain various treatment options. Assistants are helpful, knowledgeable and kind. Prices are reasonable and treatment is outstanding. Dr. Dhillon is a rare and precious doctor. Honorable and thoughtful. read more

We took our dog here a couple of times and thought we had found the perfect place we would Go to. Until today. We had an emergency with our dog. My husband rushed him there. The lady in the front literally told my husband they're booked today and can't help him; turned her back and continued searching for some business card. Just turned him away with no care whatsoever. I repeatedly called this clinic, where I had brought my cats every year. I was trying to schedule their annual physicals. I called repeatedly, and there was either no answer or I was put on endless holds. I was trying to follow up particularly with one cat who had gained weight and I was trying to manage it. I called and called, and the cat deteriorated. By the time I got her to an animal hospital, it was too late to save her life. If these people had responded in any kind of reasonable manner by returning my calls, my cat would be alive now. I have two other cats, and I am moving them to Dundee Animal Hospital. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! The veterinarians at this place are unprofessional, impatient, and poor examples of veterinarians. To start, Dr. Dillon is a vet who has no sense of empathy and should not be working in the field since he is TERRIFIED of any pet over 10 pounds. I had been taking my two pets there for approximately three years. I have a smaller and a larger pet that love going on spa dates and need their yearly vaccines to make this possible. However, it only took one instance of Dr. Dillon vaccinating my 70 pound pet before I knew he was not qualified to be a vet. The one and only time this man was tasked with vaccinating my pet, he single handedly raised my pets anxiety by shaking as he tried to vaccinate him and yelling at my pet which made the vaccination process a true nightmare. After that date, Dr. Dillon decided to take it upon himself to label my pet as a "dangerous, vicious, and biting large dog." These are remarks I was unaware that he had added till the next year, when I was looking over that year's vaccination paperwork. I explained to that man that pets are living being who feel fear, pain, and other emotions. Therefore, it was normal for my pet to push off of ME while he tried to vaccinate him. My pet has never bitten or harmed anyone at this office, doctors, employees or customers. Yet, the man refused to remove the remarks from the account. Thankfully, the spa that my pets go to decided to look past it and have been happily seeing my two pets for years now. I then thought I had found hope when I requested María Leticia Saldua (please call her doctor and nothing less cause it will hurt her ego). After a recent visit, I realized that the office charges for services that they never provided. My large pets receipt showed a "preventive care exam" for $22.00. This lady walked into the room, administered two vaccines and had me administer the third vaccine orally. I brought up to her attention and asked if we could schedule a future date where I could bring in my pet and have him examined or if I could simply get the $22.00 refunded since the service was never provided. I explained to Maria that it wasn't about the money, it was simply the principle of charging for a service and not providing said service. Maria's response was "I can tell he's healthy cause he's all muscle." Maria never examined my pets heart, mouth, ears, or any parts of my pet's body that a professional veterinarian usually would. This clinic helped me through the illness of my cat, Dustmop, and her eventual passing. Twice, they helped me nurse her through liver failure. Her life was definitely extended due to their care and direction to me on how to care for an ill animal. Two years later, I found that the most humane thing, the last thing, we can do for our animals is to put them down when they no longer have good quality of life. It was a hard lesson to have - that I wanted her around for ME, instead of doing what was right for her. In the end, common sense prevailed. I miss her horribly. We have been taking our 3 dogs to Elgin Animal Clinic for 4 years. Our first visit was an emergency as our 11 year old Schnoodle was hit by a car & they are super close to our house. The Dr. Understood we did not have $4000 for surgery (both hind legs were broken off at the hips) so he bandaged him up and Ziggy lived in a laundry basket for 6 weeks. Happily, Zig can do everything today except jump onto the bed. Pretty good for an old guy! HOWEVER, I have transferred ALL of my dogs' records to another vet. Here's why: Last Wednesday, I had my other Schnoodle, age 8, O'Henry's teeth cleaned. He needed 11 extractions. They did call me for approval before they proceeded. When I went to pick him up and was paying, Dr. Came out to the front counter to use a computer. Barely said hello, and when I tried to converse with him, I got a one word answer. My fiancée has always had a problem with the Doctor's manner and pushy sales tactics. I've defended him because he helped save Ziggy. NO MORE!! I would not go to a doctor of any kind that has no bedside manner. No one called to follow up about O'Henry which is important when an 8 year old dog has been under. Furthermore, O'Henry started scratching his neck (perhaps where he was injected) that evening and it is now a huge open sore. Maybe it's a coincidence, but somehow I doubt it. Now I have to take him to another vet, pay even more money to make this right. If you do not care about communication, or being treated with some respect, or being upsold, then go to Elgin Animal Clinic. Also, when I called to have all of my dogs' records transferred, I wasn't even asked why! If I owned a business and was losing 3 clients, I would want to know why!! This clinic is associated with Rescue Warriors Corp. pet adoption agency. That in itself is reason to stay away. Let me explain, we originally paid a $300 adoption fee for a dog which we were told was the cost from the foster parents. We were also told that we had to bring the dog in 30 days or less to be neutered at this clinic as per the signed contract and was covered in the adoption fee. The real reason for this is, on the day while my dog was in surgery, we suddenly get a text message out of the blue from the owner of Rescue Warriors that we owe $600 for the dog, not $300. We were also instructed to give the check to the on staff nurse and wait for instruction as to when we could pick up our dog. To recap, it took 30 days for them to tell me we owed double the cost for the dog. They discover this on the day the dog is in surgery at a clinic that allows them easy access to take back animals they give for adoption?? Sounds like a ransom, right? The angle the clinic and rescue warriors was able to work, is that Rescue Warriors never deposited our original check, and they did not have the chip updated to us being the new owner, and it has been 30 days! With no legal recourse on my end, Rescue Warriors was then able to instruct the clinic not to release the dog back to us unless a check was made out for the additional cost. Once we handed over the check, the nurse called Rescue Warriors to ask permission to give us our dog back. The clinic also instantly scanned our check to start the funds transfer. This whole entire operation that runs behind the scenes as a good to do pet adoption agency and vet clinic are all one big money making scam. Our vet bill was also padded with extra meds and a head cone that was totally not necessary. We paid over $300 to get our dog back, don't let this happen to you. If you do adopt from these scam artists, take the dog the same day to your own vet. Do what ever it takes to get the id chip reprogrammed, get copies of all the contracts the day of adoption and do not look back! Its all about the $$... read more

Writing this review based on an experience several years ago when we needed to get our cat in right away for a uti, when he couldn't void. Dr. Dhillon came in and opened up for us on Thanksgiving day..to look at and treat our cat. We have been grateful and loyal customers since. We have an important 3 yr rabies and full check - up and dental cleaning coming up soon for our sweet hound, so I hope the experience for our dog and for us, is just as wonderful as our encounter with our cat. read more

I would never recommend this place. The only reason we took our rescue dog here was because the neutering was paid for by the shelter we got him from and this was who they were partnered with. We dropped him off for the procedure and went to pick him up and they brought him out. Everything seemed fine until he rolled over on his back and he was bleeding everywhere. He had somehow licked his stitches and ripped them because they didn't put a cone on him after the procedure. It seems like common sense to me that they would put this on after the operation, but apparently they said they don't supply it that it had to be picked up from the animal shelter and Huntley. If I would have known this to begin with when I dropped him off, I would have just purchased it from the vets office. I don't understand why they thought it would be okay to leave him without any cone in a cage for hours and expect him not to lick his wound. They had to put him under AGAIN that night to restitch him which we were obviously upset about that he had to go through that all over again. Nightmare of a place, would not recommend ever. We would have been better off taking him somewhere else and paying for the neutering ourselves. Go somewhere else! read more

I recently saw your post on yelp and I am very sorry that you did not have a good experience. I just wanted to take some time to address some of your concerns as they are the main vet that we use for all our rescue animals. Regarding the fact that you cant openly see the exam room and tools used for surgery, no office clinic has their surgery room out in the open for everyone to see. Most dont allow anyone in the back, but Elgin will allow clients to go in the back upon request, or even if they want a tour of everything. Regarding her being in pain and yelping, I am a vet tech and many animals have a low pain tolerance and after waking up from anesthesia they are scared because they dont know where they are and they dont have their family there to comfort them. Its a shock factor when they dont see anyone they know after waking up, I can assure you no one was hurting her, and I am sorry that you felt that way when you arrived at the clinic. As for the pain meds, post op they can not have anything by mouth til the next morning due to the anesthesia. She did receive a pain injection before surgery that is good until the next morning when she can get her oral pain meds.( I have attached her records). As for not seeing the vet much, most post op questions vet techs should be able to answer, but a doctor can be accessible to talk if a client would like to speak with them personally. It is very odd that the surgery site got infected with her being on antibiotics, but I wish you emailed us because we would have taken care of it. Again, I am very sorry about your experience and how you feel about your visit to Elgin Animal Clinic. I am in shock as we have a close relationship with Dr. Dhillon and he has been helping us ever since we started saving animals. He even comes in during closed hours to help us sometimes with late transports or will come in if we call him regarding a very ill pet. I understand your rationale in regards to hearing my dog yelping and crying as she was handled. But the issues of bringing her back full of dry blood, dirt, and animal hair that was not hers can not be ignored; it screams filthily conditions. Her suture job was jagged, it has now healed into a thick curved scar; that to me shows lack of pride in work provided. In regards to the disregard and lack of communication from the vet; I should not have to ask to see the provider, it is the provider's responsibility to convey trust and communicate appropriately with their costumers. When the vet walked past, he overheard my questions to the tech and it was his choice to ignore my concerns and not address me; a customer shouldn't have to ask for customer service. With the infection that took place after surgery; I have no problem providing you with copies and the out of pocket expense I endure from this event. Your provider is welcome to reimburse me should they feel so compelled with compassion. You must understand that all of the above is the impression of care this provider left on the consumer. To ask me to take down my review is sincerely dishonest of you; I am disappointed with the request. Rather than guilt tripping me on the potential that this vet may not work for the rescue organization because of the negative reviews from clients; you should ask yourself is this the right provider for your animals and organization; are you protecting your future by entrusting the care of the animals to places like this? Your provider has never attempted to contact me in regards to the review; this should be a concern of theirs as well as yours. I am really surpised with the bad reviews with the vet. 3 years ago our pit mix had been plagued with ear infections for about 1 year. We had been taking him to Banfield and all they would do is give us a topical ointment to put in his ear. He started having what we thought were seizures and rushed him over to Banfield again and they told us that he needed a brain scan because he might have a tumor and they put him on seizure meds. Well we wanted a second opinion and took him to Dr. D and found out that it was a severe ear infection. He had us take him off the seizure meds and we had a deep ear treatment done were he was sedated and his ears were flushed and he was given an antibiotic deep in his ear. 2 weeks later and we had our guy back to normal. No seizures no more ear infections. Its been 3 years now and we have had no issues with his ears. Dr.D diagnosed and fixed the issue quickly and was reasonably priced. We also have another pit boxer mix that we take there and he gave us some great options for dogs allergys without meds! He also price matched Amazon for joint supplements that we need to give our pit mix due to arthritis. I thought that was awesome! I really like this vet. He is straight and to the point. This is the worst vet. I brought my cat in for a visit. He never examine him, he just gave him a shot. I have now a cat who may lose his eye because this vet didn't bother to take the time to examine him.My cat is in serious condition . read more

I have had to take my dog and cat here on numerous occasions. They did an emergency surgery on my dog on a Saturday when he tore his foot all to heck. The cost of the surgery for an emergency was lower than I have paid at other places for just bringing the dog in and getting medication for him. The vet also noticed that my dog has what could be called doggy lupis... his immune system attacks itself, instead of like other vets trying to get me to spend thousands to deal with the issue, he gave me alternatives that have worked and that I keep using now which I can purchase at the drug store. THEN, the dog tore a nail right from the nail bedding and they were able to patch him up and resolve this issue... it cost me $30... Now for the Cat. We have an old cat... I mean old, the guy farts dust old. He was having issues retaining weight and was having a cough. Turned out that he is having immune issues and that the food we were giving to him was not helping the situation, they gave me some medication for him and some food, which cost the same per pound as if I went and got special food at petsmart. If you want to take your dog or pet to some specialized neurosurgon or something... go to the city and pay the price they charge, if you want a vet that treats your dog well and is good at his profession and are on a budget then this is a fantastic vet. I will continue to use this vet. I used to be a vet tech, if you want a chai pumpkin spice latte while you wait for your pet, this isnt the place for you. If you want a competent vet that will work to keep your pet healthy... then give them a try. As a former vet tech I have seen the inside of 4 clinics and know how they work, the price is reasonable, but it is a vet clinic not a vet hospital... I dont have the money to pay thousands to see if my dog has psychological issues, or the like. read more
