That said, you have to be careful with packaged frozen seafood. Unless you know exactly what it is and how to cook it, do not just trust your eyes. Do not assume that something will have the same taste and texture as what you remember from hometown just because it looks similar. I once bought frozen razor clams that turned out to be chewy, smelly, and almost impossible to chew. Another time, I bought a bag of frozen green mussels. They had exactly the same shape and color as the ones I usually bought from Chinese markets, but they were not cooked. Once defrosted, they practically melted into water. Vietnamese markets also sell many kinds of fish by weight. Most of them are good, but you need real experience when buying raw seafood. Otherwise, it is very easy to waste money. Thuan Phat is a typical Vietnamese market in this sense. You can get most of the ingredients a Chinese family needs. Their fried or dried pork skin is actually much better than what I have found in most Chinese grocery stores. But again, only buy what you know. You need to know the quality, and you need to know how to process it. This Thuan Phat also has several tanks and a full seafood counter for live seafood, including crabs, tilapia, and other fish. I am no stranger to Thuan Phat El Monte Superstore. I have been here many times in previous years. It is a huge Asian supermarket comparable to other Asian supermarkets such as 99 Ranch, San Gabriel Superstore, GW or Great Wall Supermarket, etc. Free parking is plenty in the front and back of the store. There are individual merchandise and food vendors along the front inside of store. They carry many different international dry goods, perishable food items, fresh produce, meat and seafood, frozen items, and so much more. You can spend hours shopping here. Most recently, my Mom and I came to checkout the sugarcane juice vendor. We got ourselves one large cup with ice for $7. It is $12 if you want no ice. You have to pay more money if you want all juice. Sugarcane juice tasted refreshing and sweet. I would get it again with no ice next time. I may just bring my own ice or drink it as is. read more

I haven't been here a in long time. Noticed it got cleaner and the dimsum counters very easy to access. There is a Pho 24 store with sit-down tables inside. A few stores selling counterfeit bags, gems, brooch etc and juice place. Dimsum counter sells cooked dishes for about $8 for round plastic bowl small size. This is probably one of the most 'Asian' markets you will find in the SGV (close to Hawaii Market). but with bigger square footage and better parking. They should have almost all Chinese and especially Southeast Asian foods that you want. They have an especially large selection of seafood especially if you want fresh seafood. Don't expect much customer service aside from the butcher or fish monger and ideally, you speak Mandarin or Cantonese. read more

I have so many great childhood memories of this place with my grandparents. It's like hands on touch tank aquarium here! There's giant pools of fish where you can just fish them out with really funny jerry rigged nets made up of various cooking ladles and such. Adults truly didn't care when we were messing around here and I was able to touch a lot of random crabs, shellfish, and actual fish when hanging out here. My grandpa played around a lot with me too, which led to some wonderful memories. Though I think at that point the market had a C health grade which is INSANE. Aside from that instance, I don't think I've ever seen that low of a health grade for a business and it was still open. Though times have changed. Another impressive sight I've seen was when they wheeled in giant tuna through the seafood section. It's like we have Tsukiji market at home! They butcher and fry fish here but once I saw a grandma just fish out, bag a fish, and then just hardcore slam it onto the ground until it was a bloody mush, so you can do that too if you would like to be economical. Service is very...lol ASIAN. To the point and not the most polite but you get what you get out of it. It's a popular market for a reason with its food court and prices. I honestly treat this like a fun vacation trip to another country without having to take my passport and just peruse the live food here and the discounts and deals. Date of visit: January 17, 2026 Selections: Bought multiple items from the market and some of the store stalls by where we entered Experience: I have always wanted to go inside here whenever I pass by this market from work to head home for the day. I had no idea that they had stalls that sold hot foods, deserts, and drinks as well as medicine and clothing before we even entered the market area. The market had so many varieties of ramen, drinks, treats, frozen items, and fresh items. They had tubs of live crabs and fish that you could select for yourself. They also had a sit down restaurant near the market that sold pho and other items, but wasn't able to check out the menu. I did end up having to pay for what we grabbed in cash since their card system for the lane we were on was acting up. I also snagged some shumai and ha cao for my husband to snack on and some fried bananas for myself. The best item we got was fresh sugar cane with som calamansi squeezed in that tasted so refreshing and delicious that I wished we got two and didn't have to share a large one between the two of us. Recently? i walked in and walked out under 30 seconds. I had my bag pack with me today and the security person told me i need to leave my bag pack at the front...without anyone looking after it and they bear no responsibility? easy pass. i won't likely come back. mainly? for management not thinking through this requirement from their patrons. who in the right mind would leave their bag with their phone, wallet, AND laptop unattended or with someone they don't know? the security person told me to take out my wallet and leave the bag...umm that's not the only thing i have in the bag and i refuse to lug the laptop around with me while doing grocery. the better way management can handle this? 1. put up a sign that bags will be checked by security 2. have security points to the sign and check the bag when patrons have one on them 3. say "thank you" (for me letting you peek into my personal belongings) California has Workplace Violence Prevention requirements for employers to protect the safety for their employees and others. Plenty of parking is available in their humungous lot but be aware that I did not see any security guards keeping an eye out for the cars and there were some shady looking people walking in and out of the lot One inside of the market, your senses kick into overdrive as the aroma of food is in the air, the store is very colorful so your eyeballs are going crazy trying to take it all in, the sounds of people speaking in various Asian languages can be heard throughout the store and there are so many items you'll want to toss into your shopping cart. Been coming here since I was a child. Big parking lot! They offer many varieties with great pricing. You can literally find anything here. A one stop shop when you want to make any Asian cuisine. Overall, the items are fresh. We like to come here to buy a whole box of oysters when it is in season. There is also vendors that sell snacks like fried bananas and desserts. 7/30/23 This store is far from me & it's not my usual go-to for Asian inspired groceries, but it's not too far from my auntie's house in Pico Rivera. This market is MASSIVE for Asian inspired groceries. Price point is affordable. They get 4 stars for having a great big inventory of items and it looks pretty organized & fairly clean. I grabbed kabocha, sweet rice, green mango, onion & okra (good price @ $1.59/lb) a couple of lemon wafers for the crew and bok choy Surprisingly I didn't find banana peppers. I visited the seafood & meat department & I saw live crab for $6.99/lb. Lots of types of mollusks-some I've never encountered at regular supermarkets. The fresh produce: fruits & vegetables, is filled with an assortment of tropical types not found at in regular stores, too. Although, jackfruit, durian, lychee & rambutan can be found at the 99 Ranch market, this store seems to have plenty more and 'look' fresh as well. There are individual booths within this store that sell clothes, freshly prepared snacks (desserts like rice cakes, fresh shrimp rolls, boba, dried fruits/fish/jerky, etc). Parking is free & plentiful, there's a guard there to stand watch. If I lived closer, I would shop here more often. The cashier was efficient, not the friendliest one but not rude either--oh and you get to bag your own groceries, so there's that. Thankfully I didn't buy bagfuls this time. The cashier named YUEE at this location needs retraining on proper customer service. I had an unpleasant experience with her during my visit. I asked whether she could place my purchased items into the reusable bag I brought with me, as most stores typically do. She responded rudely with a ready-to-fight attitude, saying that all I needed to do was pay first and that there was no reason for her to bag my items. This market has been around for some time and usually, and I think I do stop by here from time to time if I am in the area. This time I just wanted to browse what they had during Chinese New Year time. The parking lot is large and the inside has some people here buying many items from seafood, eggs, and Asian drinks, to a ton of noodle options. I have to say their selection might beat many on the noodles. They have Vietnamese style to different Chinese provinces style noodles. I was a little surprised by that. The drinks as well are unique and if you are looking for instant coffee from Asia you will have a better selection here. I grabbed my favorite French butter from here. The brand is amazingly better than American butter and I have never switched back. It does cost a little bit more from $7.00-8.00 but it is so good, trust me. They have plenty of other items used for hot pots at home. Such as canned quail eggs, fish balls, udon noodles, deep-fried balls, and almond-flavored jello! I only come here when I'm very lazy cause it's only 5 mins from my house! But I won't be returning after this.. I paid over $7 for a 1 basic mango that I can get from Superior Grocers for less than half that.. All of the produce is overpriced @ least double, & other items I can also get elsewhere for cheaper. They don't even have a big variety of fruits. Plus when you start walking towards the seafood section it just smells! Not necessarily a dirty fish smell, but overall a bad smell that indicates the place just isn't clean. I often see flies roaming around the fish as well. Gross! read more

It's like a 3.5 but the store has gotten cleaner and they often carry seasonal live crawfish when in season. Like it's actually looking really clean and organized these days. Lots of selection even vegan Asian sauces. It is terrible it's going into the trend where the produce are prepackaged. When I last went, all of the packaged corn I looked through was moldy. This is probably one of the cleanest Vietnamese markets. They had everything here. It's such a big layout and well organized. It was my first time here and I needed assistance finding things and everyone I asked was friendly. They didn't speak much English but they were all patient and the broken Vietnamese I was able to speak did help. You don't come here to hang out. You come to get decent quality produce for a good price. It is helpful if you speak Vietnamese especially with the guys working in the fish department. You're out of luck if you try to speak to them in Chinese or English. I usually come here to get their Dungeness crabs for a good price. Their other seafoods all have comparable prices to local markets. They carry just about anything and everything. I never had a problem with this market before until today. I went to buy several items to make dinner today and came across a frozen durian box which was sign for $2.99. I thought to myself, wow, what a great deal so I grab a few boxes. When I went up to the register, the cashier rung up the frozen durian and the price was $16.99. Think of this as an asian/chinese Costoc. Except it's not clean, the workers aren't very helpful, it smells in there, and you really have to watch where you walk in the meat/seafood areas! The selection of available meat/seafood is HUGE here. It's also very fresh which is a huge plus. Lots of live seafood options if that's what you're looking for. Crab, lobster, razor clams, etc. Snacks? Endless options of asian snacks/treats. More choices than your typical asian market but what makes it difficult is that the aisle is typically a mess and they do not restock often. Fruit & Veggie options are pretty good as well. The market gets pretty busy in general so they turn over a lot of what they have available. Meaning, they usually will restock with new product pretty often. Occasionally, you will see some fruit flies though due to the fact that they do not "clear out" the rotting fruit or veggies that are starting to go bad. Huge store but the check out line is often a decent wait (like 4-5 people out). Their variety is extensive. Their store has lots of space. Their veggie section is a bit pricier for being a "superstore"; you would think it's cheaper or more fresh because many people visit and buy it, but I prefer Great Wall which is often re-stocking their veggies and not as pricey. They sell newspapers but unfortunately I didn't see the popular Sing Tao which is my mom's preferred paper. I would come here if I'm nearby / not running on little time.
