Nice lodge-style room; good food. We had the pan-fried walleye and salmon Caesar salad. Both were prepared perfectly. Our waiter was attentive and quick. The reason we chose the restaurant over others nearby was that it allegedly had EV charging and we were driving our Tesla cross country. All three Tesla chargers and a generic charger were turned off. Many hotels and restaurants we've visited still don't seem to realize the value of available EV charging. read more

Our second time here, since we come to town for shows at the Coronado. My filet was far better than the one I had in a pricy NYC place for 3x the price this past week. Service was excellent. Thunder Bay Grille looks like a fancy log cabin resort with wood from bottom to top. The restaurant was not busy, which always worries me because a small crowd typically means the restaurant is not good. I was greeted at the front desk by a friendly host who seated me in the main dining area. Songul was my waitress and she was fantastic! Always ask for her when you visit Tunder Bay. I ordered the Blackened Mahi Mahi, but first I had the chicken tortilla soup. Boy, was it good! The main course was fantastic too. The Mahi Mahi was perfectly cooked and tender. The menu had many items that I want to try so I will return when I return to the Rockford area. My ticket was $22.70 before tip. read more

Best filet I have ever had. My husband has the seafood diablo, he said it was fantastic. Only suggestion: 4 pieces of that focaccia bread was not enough! Came here for dinner on a Thursday night, a little worried as the restaurant was pretty empty. Beautiful log cabin feel with fireplaces and beautiful decor. Greeted upon arrival and sat immediately. After we got out drinks, We received the drop biscuits with cinnamon butter which were good but very sweet. We got the fried green beans and cheese curds for apps. The cheese curds were not great but the green beans were good and so was the dipping sauce. The curds came with raspberry sauce. I had the beef tenderloin trio with asparagus and roasted potatoes. Beef was amazingly tender but asparagus was undercooked and potatoes were stewed with onions and peppers (both of which I don't like and weren't on menu). My brother got the duck meatball sliders with chip and he said it was very good. Desert was smores brownie with vanilla ice cream. Yum yum but sweetness overload!!! My review is torn because the service is very good and the restaurant was beautiful and clean but the food just wasn't up to par for the most part. We were staying at the hotel next door and decided to visit Thunder Bay Grille for lunch. From the outside it looked like a fun place. It looked like a big cabin up north. The inside had a log cabin type of feel. This was a late lunch for us as we were seated right away. We all placed our orders quickly as we had a game to get to. Our server was ok. Seemed to take a little longer than expected to get our food. A few side items were missed and we never received a cole slaw. Anyhow I ordered the smoked bison meatloaf melt. Our table also had 2 orders of chicken fingers, a BLT, the Ahi salad and a shore lunch. My bison melt was good. Plenty of meat on nicely grilled bread. I thought it was a bit overcooked as the sandwich was a little dry otherwise it had good flavor. None of us were able to sample the BLT as my brother put that away pretty quickly as we love our bacon. The chicken fingers were pretty tasty as was the shore lunch. The winner at the table was the ahi salad that drew raves. There was some complimentary bread that was served warm to start our meal. Nothing special but warm bread and butter usually tastes good. Overall a decent meal. Lots of menu items to choose from. The convenience was nice especially being close to where we were staying. read more

So, my son and I took a trip up to see my parents in Wisconsin in our EV, that I'm not used to taking on any trips, (I have now learned the hard way) on our way back from Wi, We were traveling from outside Madison to the western Chicago suburbs, when I discovered that I had nowhere near the amount of battery in our car that was needed. I pulled up EV charging stations, and found one at Thunder Bay Grill. We hooked up and told our server right away that we would be with her for about 2 hours. She was wonderful from the get-go. It was Sunday brunch, which we discovered. It was great, and my 9 year old was impressed by all of the food he was able to choose for himself, and especially the chocolate brownies. But, the star was our service. Our server was top notch, and I wish I would have gotten her name. If she reads this review, she will probably know who we are. The food was good. (We just had the basics... couple versions of burgers). The staff was nice, though our server was not very responsive. The manager ended up stopping by to take our order. When they were out of lemonade and we switched to water, we had to ask for it when he came with out food. I stopped in for dinner when I was staying in a hotel nearby. The interior is nicer than what the sign suggests. It has cabin decor and a nice relaxed vibe to it. A good mix on the menu but not too many options that you're overwhelmed. I ended up getting the Cajun chicken. It came with a nice mixed green side salad, roasted potatoes and green beans. It was a pleasant surprise getting good Cajun spiced food in Rockford, IL, but that's what it was: very good! I also couldn't pass up trying the apple cider sangria and it was so good I'm going to attempt to make this for my family for the holiday! I've eaten barbecued ribs in a lot of places. Thunder Bay's ribs were THE WORST I've ever had. They had little taste, including the nondescript sauce, and they were at least 50% fat. The broccoli and salad were fine, but $23 for a salad an d veggie is a bit pricey. Service from Kagan was pleasant enough, but not very attentive. I really like this place, it has hunting lodge them to it and it's very spacious. The customer service was really great. My friend and I came for their Sunday brunch buffet. We both have never been, and if your from Rockford, it's hard to find sunday brunch buffets since only a couple of restaurants do them. As I said, the customer service was really great, the hosts were interactive and we're very happy to seat us. Upon seating, our waitress came,asked for our drinks and Ta-Daa, we were off to the buffet. Since I mentioned it was spacious they did buffet in the bar area and there was a great selection of food from eggs benedict, cheesy hash browns, fried chicken, desserts, fresh fruit, waffle bar, and of course the omelet bar. The food was delicious. The wait staff and managers were working hard and even interacted with customers for feedback. My only concern was when I grabbed a plate there was melted cheese on the bottom of one by the buffet table. I think back of house was doing the dishes too quickly.
