A client invited me here, and I'm sure happy I accepted. I haven't tried the sandwiches just yet because I have fallen in love with the Chicken Tortilla soup. It's the creamiest and cheesiest soup. It has a very nice spicy taste. If I had to rate the spice, it's a 10. I can actually taste the spices. The overall soup is a ten! I have literally driven out of my way to come here for the soup. I certainly will try the sandwiches because they do look really good and hearty. The place itself is very calming and relaxing, even though it's busy. I think it's the neighborhood's go-to place. I can tell by the conversations the staff have with the customers. Everyone is so friendly, and almost always the customers dine in. The subs are good and the staff is cool and helpful. The seating inside is casual. There isn't anything that separates Thundercloud or stands out but I believe their subs are good enough in a pinch and they are the perfect pit stop before you hit HW 71 East. read more

Quick, reasonably priced, fresh, and tasty. The sandwiches are consistent. At least for this location. Service is swift and friendly. Don't expect them to ask you a million questions (which is my preference), as they are fast paced and trying to get you taken care of as quickly as possible. The N.Y Italian and Chicken Salad are my go-to sandwiches. Give those a try. For vegetarians, the Nada Chicken sandwiches are amazing. read more

Thank you to the hippie who forgot to put the turkey on my turkey sandwich. I realize that you are most likely high, but please get your shit together. I did not want to be a vegetarian on this particular day. At first he gave me shit for the choice of cheese I wanted, which I never usually even get cheese on my sandwiches, but this particular day I wanted American. "American," he says. "so you're going with the vegetable oil today," "Yes, I want my cheese to be orange and fake today," I said. Thanks for judging. Then after I gave him specific instructions: turkey, avocado, lettuce, lots of tomatoes and T-sauce, he insisted and putting bacon on it. "Why not?" he said. "Bacon is delicious." "Yes, bacon is delicious, but I don't want any today." And then after he wrapped up my sandwich, he yelled out the wrong order to the dude at the cash register calling it a "California Sub" and I had to remind him- "No, there's no bacon, remember? Just a turkey with avocado." Goodness, gracious, get it right. And then, 20 minutes later after I'm way long gone from that part of town, I open my sandwich and much to my dismay... it's an avocado, lettuce and tomato sandwich. No turkey in my turkey sandwich. I guess he was so distracted by the bacon that he forgot the turkey. So I called the place and talked to a guy who said he would give me a free turkey the next time I went in. UGH. Oh, and this place is also super hard to find, all tucked away in a tiny corner of a shopping center, but they do have a drive-through. read more

OK, here are some of the reasons I like Thundercloud subs, all in one paragraph, real quick like. Good Sandwiches. Locally owned. Good meatballs. Good chip selections. Good soups, most times. Locally owned. NOT SUBWAY. Funky staff, usually (in the good way, not the we need to bathe way,though they can be pretty hippy-dippy in some cases). Good music, sometimes, loud music almost all the time (RAWK!). Locally owned. Here are the reasons I like THIS one in particular, in list form. 1) A plethora of Bruce Lee decorated items all over the Store. Apparently, it's a theme at this location. 2) It's the closest Thundercloud to my office. 3) It's the only one that I have found that CONSISTENTLY has Tomato-GARLIC soup. (Tomato Basil=Good. Tomato Garlic=AWESOME). 4) They are alwyas SUPER busy at lunch, but man do they have a good system down. One cashier, like 7 guys making sandwiches, I get in and out in 10 minutes most times, even with a line. 5) (Here's the Kicker) DRIVE THRU!!!!!! Never saw a Thundercloud with a drive-thru before. very Cool 6) Did I mention the Bruce Lee? Why does your staff hate me so much? Can they just tell I'm an invading Californian? Do they hate fat white girls as a general rule? They all look at me like my presence is hard to bare. I mean, I love your blue hair and tattoos. What's the deal? Are you judging my girly office wear? At other locations, I sometimes feel like I'm not cool enough to be there. "When I'm really hungry and I want something good, I go to the Thundercloud in my neighborhood. The sandwich makers are friends of mine 'cause I'm in there all the time." Oh, that little jingle really describes my experience with this particular location. I frequent this location because it's close to work and home and it has a drive thru. That's a big plus on days when it's rainy and I forgot my umbrella. Although I'm not *really* friends with the sandwich makers, they are super friendly and do remember me. I think once I even invited them to my party. They couldn't go because their manager was taking them to dinner for getting a perfect score on their secret shopper thing. As far as the food, it's just a local sandwich chain. Some sandwiches are better than others. My personal fave is the Roast Beef and Avocado. This is my favorite location. read more

Before I explain my strong dislike for this specific location, let me put this out there first: I am a dedicated Thundercloud customer and have been since my first weekend living in Austin 7 years ago. But this location needs some help. Badly. They have terrible customer service, which I have tolerated because I love their sandwiches & this is now the closest location to my new house. Enough is enough, though. My husband and I went in today for sandwiches before a road trip and the gal making our sandwiches must've been having a bad day. She was curt and rushed us, even though there wasn't a long line. My husband asked for "a whole pickle, speared" and they forgot it, then gave us one spear and charged a buck to get the other 3 spears to make a whole. Fine, I'll pay an extra dollar. But she promptly turned to the next customer and said "sorry for the wait, they didn't get their pickle & it was a fiasco". Lady- we were STILL standing there. I crossed out the tip that I always leave at T-cloud. Insult to injury- half way out of Austin on our road trip and I discover my sandwich is missing meat. And I didn't order the Veggie Delite! Please spend a little time training this location on customer service. An "Austin Classic" shouldn't be so rude. read more

It's T-Cloud. If you can get a better sandwich, you didn't get it in Travis County. Hadn't been to this location before and the quality was equal to all the others. My total time to walk in, order 1 sandwich, pay, and walk back out the door wasn't more than 5 minutes at 11:45am. Sweet. read more

Great local chain with favorites such as the Austin Club Sandwich. I hit these guys about every week. I really like the Austin Club and the Roast Beef with Avocado but just about everything I've tried is great. The staff is real laid back, but the drive through moves pretty fast so don't be discouraged if there is 3 or 4 cars ahead of you. read more

By far the WORST customer service I've ever encountered. We walked in and not one person behind the counter acknowledged or even looked at us for about 7 minutes while serving the customer before us (not a deal breaker but kinda weird) . Honestly, I hate having to do this, because my husband has worked in the food service industry for over 23 years and I know how rough it can be, especially when you're having a bad day. The attitude of the man serving me tonight (6:30ish pm; 10/08/2019), however, pushed me into leaving this review. I want to start off by saying that I love Thundercloud and do does my husband, though this was our first time back in quite awhile due to moving. The food is always great. The customer service I recieved today does/did a great disservice to that. When I walked in, I was not greeted in any manner by the man behind the counter. The woman who was working was not up front at that time, and I want to be clear that there were no issues with her service-she was polite and professional. Usually I would brush a lack of greeting off, but in correlation with the rest of his service, it bears mentioning. Everything was okay at the beginning. The woman asked for my complete order so that she could ring up my meal while the man was making my 1st sandwich. When she asked if any extras would be on the 2nd sandwich, I blanked on what those were, and so listed off the items besides ham and American that my husband wanted on his ham&cheese. I mentioned "Swiss," which will be relevant shortly-the man said nothing in regards to the Swiss. At that point, when I had finished the complete list of ingredients, he shoved the laminated list of extras at me and snapped "Is any of that ON HERE." I was honestly taken aback. When he began making my husband's sandwich, he asked "So American and Provolone?" I replied "American yes but could we do Swiss, please (as I had previously mentioned)?" He then snapped (AGAIN) "We don't have it, it's either Provolone or not." While I obviously did not blame him for the lack of Swiss, I did take offense to his tone, the attitude in which he replied, and the fact that I had mentioned Swiss TWICE before and he said nothing, and then spoke to me rudely. A simple "Sorry ma'am, we don't have Swiss, would you prefer Provolone instead?" would have more than sufficed. Finally, when my order was complete and bagged (I was never asked if I wanted to dine in or have it to go, which would have been nice; thankfulky, his assumption was correct), he plopped it on the counter and immediately turned around and walked away. No "thank you" or "have a good night" or "hope you enjoy," any of which would have been great. To top it off, when I chose to mind my manners and said "have a good night," the woman working cheerfully replied in kind while the man ignored me. Like I said before, I hate to leave a review like this, and especially for Thundercloud. I hope he was just having a bad day and his attitude is not indicative of his usual behavior while serving customers m please know that I do NOT subscribe to "the customer is always right"-I DO subscribe to basic manners and polite customer service when it is part of your job description. I am certainly not looking to get anyone fired by any means, either. But perhaps some training on how a bad customer service experience can potentially turn a loyal customer away for food would be beneficial for him. read more

Much better Thundercloud location than the one about a mile and a half south on Burnet (which is closer to my house). Place is cleaner, food seems fresher, people are friendlier. Unfortunately, I work within walking distance of this place, and my co-workers frequent it often. I swore it off about a year ago because I watched someone start making my sandwich, then take someone's money, then come back to my sandwich, then wipe down the counter with a gross looking rag, then start on someone else's sandwich, all without washing their hands once. That's just gross, and I sent an email to the company telling them so. Despite the long hiatus, I was starving today and decided to give Tcloud another shot. Wouldncha know it?!?! - the guy making my standwich stopped to answer the phone, go to the back and get more pickles, ring up more order, then wrap up my sandwich. Dude, your hands should be clean when you start handling food, and if you must touch things that are surely germ covered (phone, cash register) WASH YOUR DAMN HANDS. Plus if that type of stuff happens in front of you, who knows what happens in the back. Gross. read more

Eh. Went in here for my first meal of the day and it was okay. My sandwich was quite sloppy and soggy because the lady drenched it in avocado. I got the austin club with thunder sauce. If the sandwich was more equally spread out with sauce and everything I would've enjoyed it. But as I ate the sandwich, it was too overpowering of one thing and it wasn't balanced. Its like they ignored everything I said. didn't find out till I got home, kind of disappointing. tried to call and let them know but the phone was busy. I didn't want a refund or anything like that I just wanted the manager to know that my order was way off. They put mustard on my sandwiches when I said not to, they did not give me my wheat bread like I requested, they forgot to put the peppers on one of my sandwiches as well etc etc. read more

The previous two Thunderclouds stores I have been to had orgasmic meatball sandwiches. This one had a greasy sauce with considerably less crushed tomatoes in the sauce. Skimpy on the parmesan too. The clerks were very fast and courteous though. The problem was just cutting corners in the food. Another advantage to this one over the other two was that music was not so loud that I felt I needed ear plugs. And while the music had a pleasant energy to it, it was not heavy metal. That made my in-store dining experience more pleasant. It's not that I need elevator music when I eat out, but it's also not to be blasted into the next century. This store found the right compromise in that area. Plus there was better seating options as well. Now if they could just get their sandwiches on par with the Burnet @ Anderson or 290/2222 @ 35 stores, then I would prefer them. read more
