Some say it takes 21-31 days to change a habit. In general, I eat pretty healthy. Admittedly, sweets are my kryptonite. With a recent diagnosis of high cholesterol, I am trying to eat even better. With that said, I am not going to be that girl is maniacal regarding sweets. You know the type, everywhere the person goes they have to make a public service announcement about their diet. In fact, Since I had a donut this morning, I am having a salad for lunch and dinner. Everything in moderation is my mantra in life. Today was my first day in Schlotzsky's in many moons. I remember the restaurant having an assortment of salads that were fresh, high in protein, and delicious tasting. Chicken Cobb Salad was my salad de jour. The salad is comprised of grilled chicken, bacon bits, hard-boiled egg, diced tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, and mixed greens with a creamy ranch dressing on the side. I do not usually pour salad dressing on my salad, but instead dip my fork into the salad dressing and then add salad to fork. It is a eating trick I learned about 20 years ago. Salad doused with too much dressing, quickly becomes super unhealthy. It is amazing how many calories are in salad dressing and unhealthy fats. The greens were fresh and crisp. The chicken breast was tender, well-seasoned, and thinly sliced...it might even be mistaken for turkey if you did not taste it first. The different textures and flavors made the Chicken Cobb salad delicious to eat. Service was great...we were greeted as soon as we went up to the cashier and our food was prepared rather quickly. When we lived in Washington state, we rarely could purchase a lunch salad under $15. This salad was priced sub $10, therefore exceeded our expectations. The salad was so large it was big enough for two means, so even a great value. Schlotzsky's interior is eye-catching and colorful. It has a rather whimsical and inviting persona. I love this Schlotzsky's even though it's no longer my neighborhood one, quick eats and healthy options for all dietary options! My kiddo loves their cheese pizza which is always a great deal for a meal with a drink and cookie for their kids meal option. I love their salads as the portions are huge and every time I get the entree salad, the ingredients and garlic bread side that comes with it is so fresh. My go to these days is mobile ordering and picking up my food, which the app works well and even rewards you with a loyalty system. The offerings for BOGO Wednesday pizza makes family meals for dinner a great option for us during the work week when we don't want to cook. It's a clean, safe space, and I also appreciate the bathrooms were well maintained and the staff who accommodate our orders were very friendly and nice! This was my all time favorite restaurant as a child and I was beyond excited to see one on my trip to Austin. I ordered my favorite dish- the turkey original with salt and vinegar chips. It was fairly late in the evening (I'd just flown in) and the restaurant only had one other customer. Sadly, it did not live up to my memories. I didn't see any olives in it at all and asked if it was the right sandwich and they assured me it was and brought me a side of olives. Something about the mix felt off. It also wasn't as hot/fresh as I would have hoped. The chips were ok- it looks like they've switched from Kettle to a house brand. Overall, I'm a little disappointed that it didn't live up to my memory, but that might be more about my expectations than the actual quality. read more

I will never go to this schlotzsky's on Balcones in north Austin, yesterday i was on my normal lunch run and was a witness to a training manager yelling at a trainee i guess for not being able to make a certain sandwich in front of the entire staff and customers, it seemed like his first time doing this. I've never seen anyone get treated and talked so harshly this poor African American man was so nervous but seemed to handle it well and for that he was the only one that remained professional and pleasant throughout that entire situation I was amazed that he smiled at other customer while he walked out after being told to go home. For that i think he's more than they deserve. After that service was ok seems like everyone was shocked at this manager actions. I hope he finds another job with what i saw he's more than capable of handling difficult situations. read more

Ordered lunch to be delivered. About 10 minutes past the scheduled delivery time, I received a call from the Door Dash driver. Unfortunately, the driver only spoke Spanish, and I do not. After about 10 minutes of trying to use google translate with the driver, she canceled my order. I received an email that my order was canceled and to please call the store. A Supremely Swanky Schlotzsky's. I didn't know there was a difference in an Austin Eatery as opposed to a regular store, but this one is nice. Updated decor, a different menu, and jars of pickles! I ordered the cobb salad and it came on a fancier bowl, with chicken instead of the normal turkey. I then piled on the pickled onions(love em), peppers and pickles to make my salad even more awesome. This Schlotzsky's, along with its corporate company, Focus Brands in Atlanta, provided the single worst restaurant experience in my life, and I'm 68 years old. Not only did they not get my order right, I was insulted in the process. I have made no less than 18 phone calls to Focus Brands to discuss what I told them was a serious PR problem, and, except help from two helpful receptionists, have been insulted even further by no return phone calls. I just tried phoning Focus Brands five times in the last hour, spoke with one person, and got put in an endless voice mail loop. Now, when I dial 404-255-3250, no one even answers the phone. I'm not some recent adoptee of Schlotzsky's. I was a regular customer at its ORIGINAL location on Congress Ave. in Austin. This was in 1973. Honestly, I can't imagine how badly they got screwed up in the last 48 years. There's something about the textural deliciousness of the crispy crust, the pesto basil spread, and all of the flavorful vegetables that come together so well. I always tend to throw even more veggies on top which consists of pickled onions and jalapeños for a nice kick. This location has been revamped and looks fun, modern, and inviting. Obviously, Schlotzsky's is mostly known for their sandwiches, which are better than most fast sandwich joints. But nothing to get too excited about. Horrible horrible service served with a side of a bad attitude. I don't usually write reviews and I have lived by this restaurant for 27 years. This is very sad. I pulled up to the drive thru box and the first thing the girl says to me is "do you use the app?" I said no at first but then (while there was radio silence on the other end) thought better about it and mentioned that I did have the rewards app but that I didn't order through there or anything. Well I was immediately cut off by a guy who was pretty impatient with me, cut me off multiple times during my order, then asked me what I said all over again. I drive up to the window and both the girl and the guy are acting very rude and unprofessional just making faces at random things, getting on their cell phones and leaning on the counters right in front of the customers...The guy I spoke with didn't even ask me what size drink I wanted, if I wanted a pickle with my sandwich, he held my drink out to me very high above the window which I know sounds weird but he basically didn't lift a finger and made the customer (me) have to contort my body in a way to get my drink. I have shoulder issues and I'm having surgery tomorrow. That was all uncalled for. All in all it was a very unprofessional experience. I felt very dismissed. Call me crazy but I'm not that old and growing up we were never allowed to be on our phones at work...let alone right in front of the customer...making faces at that. It's unsanitary to lean on the counters and no I'm not a huge Karen about those things but umm...excuse you ma'am. If you want to act that way I sure will write a review about it. All in all I would recommend not coming to this location. At least not at night. Maybe that's it? Maybe the day shift is better but the night shift seems like they belong in training again or at the very least at a job that doesn't require customer service. I wouldn't recommend this location unless you live/work nearby and don't have time to drive to say, the Northcross Mall restaurant. The Balcones restaurant is a franchise location (and not corporately owned) so for some reason their sandwiches just have never been as good. (I used to work at the Schlotzsky's corporate headquarters as an executive assistant so I always take note of which restaurants are better than others.) Today I had the chipotle chicken sandwich (added red onions) - it was my second choice after they told me they don't sell the Santa Fe chicken sandwich. The bread was dry; the whole sandwich was dry in fact, even though there is supposed to be some sort of chipotle ranch dressing on it. Seems like they skimp on things like toppings to save money. If I hadn't been running my errands in the Arboretum, I would have driven the few extra miles to Northcross. Or I should have just gone to Quiznos or Jimmy Johns, which are just one street over. p.s. I ate half for lunch and was disappointed. Last Sunday we ordered take-out lunch from this Balcones Woods location and, unfortunately, the order we were given was not correct which we didn't discover 'til we were home. So, I called Schlotzsky's and talked to the manager Mike who apologized profusely and agreed to either refund the amount paid to my credit card or to give me a free meal next time I came in. I opted for the complimentary meal and sure enough, on Wednesday when I was too busy to fix supper at home, I headed to Schlotzsky's where Mike remembered our phone conversation and personally prepared our order correctly! Because I have to eat gluten-free, I am very grateful that Schlotzsky's is willing to provide that option and take care that it's done with minimal cross-contact. Today I went by my favorite Schlotzsky's location on Balcones Woods Dr. (great manager and outstanding staff) to try out their new sandwich, the SmokeyCheesey. I ordered the Roast Beef/bacon & Chicken versions. The Roast Beef/bacon was good - plenty of roast beef, but could have used more bacon and more cheese. The chicken also had plenty of meat, but both of the sandwiches would have benefited from more cheese (which as is, plays a minor role) and more veg., i.e. tomato, lettuce and onion. The roast beef sandwich was tasty, but the chicken sandwich was beyond bland. Even with chipotle mayo, it just needed more flavor overall. More cheese and veg. would have helped both of them. The flavor level and profile should not be determined by the condiments. read more

While most other patrons are stopping in for a tasty lunch after sermon, I'm stumbling in after a night on the town. Schlotzsky's accepts people from all walks of life; sinners and saints. I am in love with the OGS (Original gangsta sandwich). In all my years of coming to Schlotzsky's, I have never had the gall to try anything else. Mmmmm... Honestly, I was going to give them three stars. The sandwiches are very good, but not great. The chips are tolerable, the sweet tea is pretty good. Nothing to blow my skirt up, but nothing to be ashamed. Then I remembered that I have NEVER had a problem at this place. My order is always correct (no black olives on the sandwich.) I'm addicted to the "#1 combo all the way with sour cream chips and a diet coke" even though I have no idea what a #1 combo is (other than delicious) and no idea what "all the way" means (probably something illicit). I know I knew when I first ordered this combination, but I no longer recall. The staff her is prompt, helpful, and friendly. The drive-through is sufficiently quick. The dining area is neat and clean. Since the first time I went back again a few weeks ago and the *ehem* ridiculous number of times I've gone back since (their "see you tomorrow" sign isn't far from the truth), I'm now a big fan of Scholotskys in general and this location in particular. read more

If you just want to eat something fast, this is the place to go. It's got a drive thru, but hopefully you can sit inside and enjoy yourself a bit. I always go with the sandwiches. I don't think I've ever had a bad one. Schlotzsky's is a chain, so you'll find them peppered around Austin. Go have some when you're in a rush. I always come here once because I do like their sandwiches a lot, and we don't have these in California. edit: A fellow Yelp user let me know that there actually are some Schlotzsky's in California. This is a review just for the Cinnabon section... Ordered the 6 pack of Cinnamon Rolls, and it was horrible! It appeared they gave me a box of rolls that had been sitting out for a long time. This place is a hit or miss. I've been here we're everything was perfect but I've also been here and been completely unsatisfied. First of all, some of the workers they've hired are rude. Whenever you ask for hot sauce or Parmesan, they give you attitude and just throw it on the bag. They literally make you feel like it's not okay to ask for these things. Second of all, I went there this past week and ordered their cordon blue sandwich because I wanted chicken. Well, when I got home, I realized that they had given me the completely wrong sandwich. I got a ham and turkey sandwich instead of my cordon blue. I even checked my receipt and it was clear that I ordered a cordon blue sandwich.
