Absolutely wonderful butcher/market! Every time we visit Columbus, we must stop here... their smoked meats and sausages are amazing... smoked pork chops, hams, wursts (the best!!!!) ribs, smoked fish, bacon, andouille sausagtNondescript, cash only, and always busy inside! They also carry sauerkraut, pickles, mustards. Note that they are only open to shop Thursday-Saturday... the rest of the week they're creating their wide selection on fresh goods. And, double check holiday hours. They are VERY popular, so if you're looking for something specific, you might want to call ahead!

A great butcher shop featuring all kinds of sausage, cured and smoked meats, as well as ready-to-eat meats, which was what I was after because I was just visiting for the week and not prepared to take anything raw on the plane with me. The staff was helpful and the business is all about the meat. No frills and no song and dance. I appreciated this and the samples I was allowed to try. My highest praise is that I would definitely return here if I am ever in this region again.

Insane hours? Trek across town? Cash only? Yep. And Thurn's is worth it all. I'd recently read an article where Jeni mentioned going to Thurn's, so if it's good enough for Jeni...well, you know the rest. On a Saturday morning (the only time I can possibly make it out during business hours), I headed off to Thurn's without a clue what I was doing. I didn't even know what I was going to buy! I just knew I wanted to visit Thurn's. Well, the lovely people at Thurn's were totally accepting of my idiocy, and they couldn't have been sweeter. I just walked up to the counter and declared my ignorance, and then everyone in the shop just started helping me. It was kinda amazing. But, if you'd like a little guidance before your first trip, here are the deets: 1. Check their hours. They're seriously insane. 2. Get some cash. But if you forget, they do have an ATM inside. 3. Check out the pictures on Yelp - I added the menu. Take a look and try to prepare yourself. 4. Walk up to the counter, and let the friendly service begin! They'll help point you in the right direction. 5. Sample almost anything they have. 6. Buy your amazing meat! I loved the ham salad, smoked ham, smoked turkey, smoked bacon, Ohio cheeses, and sausages.

The hours are on the sign!

Bacon. You know you want it. And this is where you can get it and get it good. They aren't open 24/7. Heck, they're not even open 7...the doors are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday only. BUT...those other days, these guys aren't out fishing or snoozing. They're out back, smoking meat, grinding up stuff and doing other butchery processes. Right there, right behind the shop. Yep. If you call ahead and give them enough notice, they'll even vacuum pack some bacon for you to take home! And you should!

Outstanding smoked meat, fish and cheese products. The double-smoked bacon and smoked salmon are two of my favorites. Just incredible...!

Ask the Community - Thurn's Specialty Meats

Do they carry fresh beef? I only see fresh pork on their list.

I have purchased ground beef and lamb. I'd suggest calling them to verify what they have available.

Cold cases with Der Dutchman pies, packaged meats, snacks, etc. Amish jams and jellies and pastries. One stop shopping for some people, like me. I got a bulk pack of brats, some big premade burgers, and scrapple! Haven't seen that for years. If it's not raining this weekend, I will be grilling. And I will be having scrapple for breakfast at some point. Service was super friendly and fast. The wait was short, midday and midweek. Prices are very reasonable. Pretty easy access, although both the street and the lot can get busy. Mosley's left, Thurn's left, so this is one of the few remaining real butchers in the area.

When you arrive at Schuman's and enter through the front door, you'll notice a red number dispenser to your right. Take a number to determine your place in line. Once your number is called, you'll be quickly helped. This system ensures a fair and efficient service for all customers. At Schuman's, you can be sure that your meat and side needs for any meal, big or small, will be met. The butchers are not just knowledgeable, they are also incredibly customer-centered. We bought pork chops and were asked if the thickness was to our liking; if not, they were willing to cut what we wanted. Their helpfulness and support make me feel appreciated and confident in my choices. Schumans has an extensive selection of beef and pork products, and a delightful delicatessen with a variety of cold cuts and cheeses. While Schumuns does not make its own sausage like Thurns, it does carry a wide selection of Falter's products and Tony Packo's. At Schumun's, you can find more than just meat and deli products. They also stock staples like milk, bread, eggs, a wide variety of condiments, rubs, Tony Packo's pickles, and local butter by the log. This convenience adds to the overall satisfaction of shopping at Schumun's. We miss Thurns but are thrilled with Schumun's Meat. Give them a try.

The tomato on the sandwhich was huge, so I believe that they use like beefeater tomatoes, because those are the biggest grown tomatoes I can think of. I also spend way more than I should, but in the case of Kenny's Meat Wagon, $14 for two sandwiches didn't break the bank too much, but it did almost put me into a food coma. I've had several chances to check out Kenny and his wagon, but I just never gave it a chance. Today was that day and what a great day it was. I could smell the grill from a ways off, especially the Chicago style Italian beef he had sitting there marinading. The menu offered for regular options and two specials, one being a Veggie sandwich. I had to figure out how to try a bit of everything without overdoing it. I went with the Italian sandwich, which had a thick slice of Genoa salami and pepperoni on it and a pile of the Italian beef covered in veggies and spicy mayo. This.. should have been enough for me, but I had to get the Corby Dog too which was a 1/4 lb hot dog topped with pulled pork and homemade BBQ sauce and purple slaw. All the meats are local, and the awesome bread that it comes on is too. I downed that Italian sandwich pretty quick even though it was quite a bit of food and started to get the meat sweats. It was so good, but Kenny's not messing around with his meat, and you'll probably want to take it slow. As far as the Corby Dog, I saved that for later. About 15 minutes later. It was absolutely delicious, and the BBQ sauce mixed in with the sweet peppers and grilled onions was really tasty. I wanted to get this review out here before I fell asleep at work, because the food was just so good. I see now why he won an award at the Columbus Food Truck festival. He's also selling OH Chips! If you find him, you have to give it a try. The Facebook and Twitter pages are updated daily, so that'll be your best bet!
