It is all handcrafted and from scratch using real fruit and with no sugars, additives, or preservatives. and it is all Paleo, Primal, Gluten-free blah blah blah etc. Which is all fine for me. Just for me, Jerky is supposed to be a healthy junk food (again just for me) and it tasted too healthy for me to enjoy it. It didn't taste THAT great. So I joked "well... it just tastes too healthy for me. :) " And then this guy got all worked up and became all defensive about it and gave me a lecture saying well it's all good and healthy and tasty, right? so why don't you want them? I am Flexitarian which means eat organic and vegan at home but when I am out, I eat everything as long as they are not fast food or junk food. I wasn't saying I was not going to buy it or I did not like the product, and I really did not appreciate that Portland attitude from that jerky guy.

I was wrong - this place is delicious, bustling, and fun. We went just before 11 on Labor Day and although there was already a crowd the host managed the line expertly. We waited about 15 minutes and were seated inside a busy, airy room with every table full. Service was fast and friendly. We had the cinnamon rolls which were soft and sweet and appropriately gooey. We also shared the chicken and biscuits with mushroom gravy. The chicken was so well seasoned - as was the gravy. The potatoes were soft and crispy at once. Absolutely delicious.

I know they get busy on weekends but we had no problem making a reservation and being seated promptly indoors. Their indoor space can get quite loud. They do have a covered side patio as well. We ordered some of their classic dishes: chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, banana foster French toast. Everything was absolutely delicious. I did feel some sticker shock at the prices ($17-24 ish) but the portions are quite large. They do have a kids menu as well as a full bar. Customer service was excellent, with a seemingly genuinely friendly server. Though they were busy, it was easy to get assistance as needed. The decor is wonderfully charming. Overall, Screen Door might not be an every-weekend kind of thing, but for an out-of-town visitor, a special occasion, or craving you just can't shake - it's absolutely worth the stop.

The kind that sticks. We'd just come off a run through Tacovore solid, no complaints but the word on the street pointed us somewhere else. A name that gets tossed around like gospel in Portland: ¿Por Qué No? Taqueria. You walk in and it hits you not just the smell, but the story. Colors that don't ask permission. Walls that feel alive. It's loud, packed, a little chaotic... the way a good place should be. This isn't fast food. This is a commitment. You might wait. You probably will. Go early if you're smart. But if you land a booth, if you carve out that space and settle in it pays you back. Yeah, it's not cheap. Let's not pretend. But you're not here for cheap you're here for something with a pulse. Something with character. Plates come out looking like they mean something. Not overdone, not pretentious just honest, thoughtful, and damn good. The kind of food that doesn't need explaining. Service? Dialed in. Friendly without the script. They move like they've done this a thousand times, because they have. And they still care. And the vibe? This is Portland in its natural habitat. Funky, a little weird, unapologetically itself. The kind of place where you look around and realize yeah, this is why people fall in love with this city. So yeah, throw it on your list. Hell, move it up a few spots. You're WELCOME !!!!!

If you make an account, there are discounts if you spend x amount and obtain points within their system. It's actually pretty cool if you come and dine at this location. We ordered kai lan, pan fried buns, braised pork over rice and an order of wonton noodles soup. The Kai Lan was a bit bitter. I only had a few pieces. The pan fried buns were decent. The braised pork over rice has always been a favorite of mine. I often order this one all of the time. My boyfriend had the wonton noodles soup. The broth was so good and clean. Overall it's a good dining experience. The interior seating are standardized wood seating and wood table. There is a large table with nicer seating.

You can place your order on the tablet and the food comes out pretty quickly! The service is so friendly and they are super helpful if you have questions or need anything extra. We grabbed the pea shoots, the veggie dumplings, the sesame noodles, and the jianbing. The pea shoots are so so so good! Highly recommend as the green vegetable of choice :P The star of the show for me was the jianbing though -- literally crispy, crunchy, hot savory and so umami. Could eat 10 of those without noticing; they're also huge so you can definitely split one. The sesame noodles were tasty but I will say I was sad that there were 0 other vegetarian noodle dishes; kinda wished there was a hot vegetarian noodle option rather than cold sesame noodles which were good but not the best option for an overcast Portland day. I will say the noodle portions were VERY generous. The veggie dumplings were fine, not bad but not good. They were filled well but a tad bland and my friend said she enjoys their meat filled dumplings much much more. All in all, cute spot with a nice variety of options. Street parking in the area isn't too bad but plan accordingly during busier times! Swing by and grab a jianbing, you will absolutely not regret it~
