    Making my own pancakes hehe
    Jaya P.

Slappy cakes is so unique and fun! I took my family here when they were visiting and we all had a great time. They had different batters for different diets so there is something for everyone. The service was great and making your own pancakes in a restaurant setting was very fun. They also have a variety of options that are not pancakes, such as toasts, cocktails and coffee. The inside is very cute and everyone gets their own little booth.

Fun places to bring the kids. Down side the wait which was long- over 45 minutes. The kids loved making their own pancakes, choosing the batter, drawing shapes/pictures with the batter and then adding all the fixins they selected. Atmosphere was loud and a little chaotic, but server was friendly and nice. Parking can be hard to find.

The food was good. The service was great along with the ambiance. I really like the fact you're able to make your own pancakes. This is a great breakfast place if you have kiddos that like to help you "cook".

Such a fun experience for families, especially with kids! Love how you can personalize your pancakes, down to flavor and toppings. Workers were friendly and the restaurant itself was pretty big. Will be back in the future with my kids (when I have some haha)!

It's a specialty restaurant that is loud but fun. For kids and grown ups. There is a flattop grill in the middle of the table to create pancake feasts. You order bottles of batter, assorted toppings to create whatever your imagination can create. We had the buttermilk and the Pina Colada batters with Blueberries, Strawberries, Banana and Bacon bits. The regular breakfast items are very good too. We had the Classic Breakfast, Grand Slap! with three eggs, sausage and a short stack of buttermilk pancakes. We also had a breakfast burrito and the Forest Mushroom Scramble. It was so good my grandson needed a side order of sausages which were really yummy. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Go for the fun. It's fun breakfast/brunch experience. Happily recommended.

We were looking for a fun spot to celebrate my sons 18th birthday. We found a fun family oriented place at Slappy Cakes. At most tables you will find a grill flat top, you can cook your own pancakes with many topping options, our son had a great time, you can also choose from a variety of breakfast items. We tried the huevos rancheros with chorizo, eggs Benedict with potatoes, the food tastes great and it was served very quickly even though they were very busy! The staff were very busy but they were very friendly and checked in often. It was a very casual environment. So glad we found Slappy Cakes.

Super busy inside and felt like our waitress forgot about us sometimes, but the food was good! It was a fun experience making the pancakes and we'd do it again.

Food was great and the experience was a lot of fun. I did feel that something's were priced correctly but 4.50 for a drip coffee is a bit ridiculous. Service was good and the griddle pancakes were fun for my son.

We took our group of 8 (4 adults, 4 kids) to this restaurant because of the DIY pancakes! So cool. Our kids loved having the choice of toppings and making all sorts of shapes and characters out of their pancakes. The adults also enjoyed their food. I got the avocado toast with an egg and the lavender fog alcoholic drink. It was delightful! It's so refreshing to see restaurants that are inviting to kids, to books by the door for them to read to even giving out chalk to draw on their sidewalk! Very cool!

TLDR: Its fun to try at least once especially with kids old enough to make their own pancakes. Come early, expect a wait otherwise and to shell out more $ than it's worth, mediocre service, OK food, and being rushed out. Ok so I knew I was paying for the experience of making my own pancakes and expected a mark up on most things but wow, $10 for a small bottle of batter and toppings for $2/$3/$4 with minuscule amount is just a little much to process. Adding onto that, aside from the lovely and friendly hostess, we didn't have that best customer service experience and left feeling rushed. We specifically came right around opening time a little after 8am on Saturday since I knew it would get very busy. The hostess was nice and seated us right away (but I did notice there are kids books at the waiting area which is a nice touch!) It's not a huge place so there were already quite a few tables filled up with diners. We have never been here and when we asked the waitress the best way to order she seems annoyed. We got drip coffee and the seasonable cold brew. We also got the weekend Three Meat special which came with toasts and potatoes, and a good amount to share. Like I said the batter was way overpriced and the two $4 toppings we got, blueberries and strawberries came in embarrassingly tiny gravy boats. If you wanted to mix and match your batter with other flavors, be ready to spend $20-30 just for the batter itself without toppings. Maybe about 35 minutes in, the bill was dropped at the table. I understand that this is a busy time but we were not even done with our batter yet! Like I said, this is a fun experience to try at least once with kids, but be prepared for things to add up quickly and less than ideal service.

My friends and I took my kiddo here for our 1st time after soccer. It was a fun place with built in griddles to the table and squeeze bottle batter to make our pancakes. We got a little creative with the designs and my son loved it. We also ordered the hash and chicken fried steak , both were delicious. The staff was super friendly and attentive.

I love that it's a ma and pop but as an Asian person who eats this often I'm just a bit disappointed. Most of the stuff here is Ala carte and that can easily add up quickly. They do have combos for 2 at $30-39 but you're limited to certain cuts of meat. For most AYCE places you can spend $30 and have an abundance of food and options. I spent $53 here and was super limited to meat and a few basic veggies. Even with other places offering higher cut meat the prices here fall in comparison. Portions are also very small even at Ala Carte. Veggies add up quickly at $7 for an order. Another big gripe is that the broth here is super under seasoned and just lack luster for what hotpot actually is. I found myself having to use more sauce, also not happy having to pay for more. Ventilation is poor here so expect to leave sweating a bit. I likely will stick to other places but at least I tried this place out.

You basically decide on a price tier...the higher the price, the wider the variety of items available, and the higher the quality. Each table has a set amount of time to order from when the order is placed, and you're limited to how many items you can order at any given time. Items ordered are (mostly) raw, and patrons cook the items themselves on a "grill" (basically, a gas-fired steel plate in the center of the table) when items arrive. As the steel plates invariably get encrusted with meat juices (and marinades), staff brings a clean (and cold) plate. The above is the experience...cooking and sharing food with friends is undeniably fun and enjoyable. Another part of the experience is the smoke that will permeate your clothes, hair, winter jacket, etc. Just keep this in mind, and consider scheduling it around when you may need to launder your cold-weather outerwear. The staff were extremely friendly and prompt, and the establishment is very clean.

If the hours say 8pm at a restaurant, they seat people until 8pm. If the store is open until 1am they are required, by law, to leave the main exit unlocked, until 1am. It's a health and safety risk, which is by far the bigger issue in this instance if there is a fire and the doors are locked, customers and employees could become trapped inside. The other problem is that a consistent store schedule is essentially a contract with their customers, so that the customers know that they can rely on the business. I have gone to QFC, at about 12:45am 1-4 times a week, for years. Knowing that I can get food there, at that time, and so planning things accordingly. Recently I have shown up at that time and been denied entry a few times, but other times they are letting people into the store at 12:59, as is right. It's an unwritten rule that if you go into the store just before they close, you make sure you get what you need and get to the register, but that is essentially a courtesy to the employees of the store, that the employees now feel that they are entitled to... in fact they might not even let you in if there is plenty of time to get quite a a whole bunch of groceries and still be out before closing, depending on how they are feeling that day.

But there it was... that hot honey Korean barbecue. Sweet, smoky, just enough kick to remind you life ain't supposed to be boring. It didn't just hit it introduced itself, shook my hand, and said, "Son, you've been eating wrong your whole life." What I respect about Doja is they've got the whole operation dialed in. Food carts, for those unfamiliar, are kind of Oregon's unofficial religion Portland alone has hundreds of them, making it one of the largest food cart scenes in the country. But not all pods are created equal. Some are chaos. Some feel like a yard sale with fryers. Doja? They've got order in the court. Clean setup, solid variety, and a lineup that makes decision-making just difficult enough to be fun. Now I'll be honest it was one of those warm days where the sun's got you questioning your life choices. I wasn't even that hungry. But that Korean barbecue? It didn't care. It showed up anyway and handled business. That's the kind of food you remember later when you're sitting at home thinking, "I should call her..." And here's the kicker I'm coming back. This wasn't a one-and-done. This is the start of a full-blown "food cart biopsy," where I go back, poke around, try everything, and report to the people like some kind of well-fed scientist. Because if this first run is any indication, Doja's not just good they're consistent, confident, and just a little bit dangerous to your wallet and your willpower. If you've got even a passing love for Korean flavors, or just enjoy food that knows what it's doing, do yourself a favor and stop by. Bring an appetite... or don't. They'll fix that for you.
