Founded in 1925, this might be the oldest LA Club in town. Everyone is so welcoming and there are lots of big personalities among the LABC members and gold-star newbies who made the morning unforgettable. Or as I'd like to say, lots of good eggs! The breakfast spread was thoughtful & versatile, the decorations were fun, and the secret handshake took my half-awake brain a while to get a hang of (but I finally did it by the time it was almost over). But no more spoilers as this is one place you have to experience if you're a creative soul. The draw for me? I was there to listen to the guest speaker, Justin Halpern, who's most known for his books, "Sh*t My Dad Says", "I Suck At Girls", and "Get Lost". Every Wednesday morning, a new guest speaker takes the podium. Novelists, comedians, entertainers, retirees, Disney or Bob Baker creatives, community leaders, world activists, and amazing storytellers preside over the Shrine of Friendship. Doors open at 6:45. Breakfast is prompt -- and not on LA-time. It's from 7-7:30. Served buffet style with a smorgasbord of choices to pair with the vibe of this live, variety-style show with plenty of audience participation. There were eggs, bacon, sausage, vegan bacon, oatmeal with every topping imaginable, pancakes, fruit, pastries, coffee, tea, and 3 different juices. Come, share a meal and friendship. I promise it'll be memorable with this welcoming batch of friendly folks from all walks of life. Annual memberships give you a discount on upcoming shows + an exclusive annual holiday party. All tickets are $35 + .88¢ ticket service fee and worth every cent for the experience.

This place was built in the 1960's by the Breakfast Club and given to the city in exchange for holding their meetings there. It is quite spacious with an abundance of parking in their private lot. It is a great location for larger events in that they have a stage and a large industrial kitchen. The downside is that the place needs some work. While I don't mind the 60's vibe, it seems that the city is not maintaining the space. The folding tables are quite worn around the edges and seem to be quite old. The chairs, while not completely uncomfortable, are certainly feeling their age. The kitchen, while quite large, apparently needs work. The large commercial dishwasher has been inoperable for a few years according to a staff member I spoke with, making it difficult for caterers who have to hand wash everything. Why do we pay all of these tax dollars to maintain city owned facilities? The bathrooms were remodeled somewhat recently. Whoever designed the remodel of the men's room should be fired. Who would place the hand dryer in a corner next to a urinal where both cannot be accessed at the same time. That is so odd to me. But overall, I'm happy to see the building being used. There are so few places large enough for big events that also has a large parking lot. I just wish the city took pride in the building, especially since they didn't pay for it. The least they could do is maintain it since they are charging a hefty fee for its usage.

Check-in process was efficient with names on a tablet and a list on a sheet. There are a few bars set up inside because I was wandering around with three wooden drink chips. There is a DJ playing with a huge are for dancing while I waited for one of the pinball machines. They set up a little room with things of the 80's era. It was like walking through memory lane while in search of these keys. It was one of the games for attendees to turn in for schwag. In the back room there is a half court basketball station set up for a bit of shooting around. All while we were waiting for a customized baseball cap. You can select any of the patches on the cap that they offered. Plenty of people playing different hotel roles like a few maids, bellboys, front desk clerks. It was fun and Jack Daniels promoted with suggestions to take an Uber home for the night with $10 coupons. Drink responsibly and designate a driver.

This particular show is part of the annual Fringe Festival, which is a mixed bag of shows, never knowing quite what you're going to get. I thought Ben brought a lot of energy to the show, told us fun stories, and dabbled in some magic here and there. Not your typical magic shows with card tricks and bunnies in hats, more of a storytelling show with moments of illusion. Obviously, Ben and his team put a lot of work into the show. It was my first time at the inconspicuous Skiptown Playhouse, but it worked for the show. A nice little black box theatre for quaint intimate productions here in LA.

Visited this theatre for Netflix is a Joke to see Matt Matthews…read more The theatre was easy to find. Signs were well placed for turns, parking, and entrances. We arrived early and followed signs right to the free parking lot across the street from the theatre. I was on crutches at this time so it was a hike from the lot down the long street to the corner and across the street but was still quite manageable. The security was efficient and we got inside easily. We were confused because we didn't see a concession stand but saw people with cans. It turned out the stand was outside the door opposite security but it was rather unnoticeable. We found out we couldn't bring anything into the theatre which I understand; however, it would have been nice to know that before arriving. It did turn out the concession stand had canned water that we could bring into the theatre. The bathroom was small in this historical building so expect to wait. The auditorium was beautiful. The history and the architecture were evident. They maintained the building extremely well. Most of the staff were very helpful. The sound in the auditorium was excellent. It made it easy to hear and cackle at everything Matt Matthews said. It was a good show!

Parking- They have a decent sized parking lot next to the theatre that offers free parking. The trick is to get their early enough before it fills up. There is also pay parking very close by. I had a great time seeing a comedy magic show by Justin Willman. The most challenging thing about this venue is they seem to offer a very limited selection of the types of events that I would like to see.

Even if you come in the evening or over the weekend, it is worth driving around a bit in case you can get lucky. The space itself is much larger than it appeared from the outside. There was plenty of space. I also loved that they kept some of the old nursery building there and just built around it. It's a great repurposing of the previous business. In all, I would love to check out Rolling Greens again when it is not a special exhibit. I think it would make a great open air event space.

Inside, there was enough room for a stage for speakers, a little backstage area for the speakers to congregate, counter space to serve food and drinks, space to sell merchandise, and an almost enclosed space for a separate session. Outdoors, there was seating for meals and open grassy and first space with tents for any outdoor programming. The event organizers rented some fancy outdoor temporary restrooms, so I'm unsure if Rolling Greens has restrooms at all or if they had restrooms, but it wasn't sufficient for our large gathering. I saw there was also parking available inside the gates that you can close, though for the event I attended, the parking spots were not utilized and we had to take the drawn parking spots outside, find street parking (which wasn't too bad), or do valet.
