If you want to be treated like a human being every time, I would avoid this office as if your life depends on it -- because it does. They won't tell you until it's too late, but if you no-show for an appointment, these people will drop you as a patient INSTANTLY. They may tell you that medical records and a referral are required to see the doctor and then ignore your attempt to communicate about meeting these requirements before said no-show. (Do not count on text communication with this team). None of this bodes well for someone like me whose severe endocrine disease contributes to major executive function trouble. I wish I had been better about making arrangements, and I own the part I played in being prepared for my appointment. I scheduled a month in advance, yet still couldn't quite make things happen in time. I didn't do enough. Don't be me! Regardless, depending on who you speak to about it when attempting to reschedule, you may be treated with respect or you may be deliberately humiliated and treated like a duplicitous teenager trying to get one over on Mommy Dearest (looking at you [t]Angela). Based on this fragile no-show policy alone, the intentional disrespect from some (not all) in the front office notwithstanding, it's hard not to see Dr. Orozco as a cold, self-absorbed (have you seen the website?) man who prioritizes his own ego over your well-being. Maybe charge a no-show fee or get over it like literally everyone else in the medical care industry. All things considered? In short: Decent medical care requires compassion and human understanding, so I would not trust this office to provide quality care. The Hippocratic Oath is not taken seriously here. A patient's health is more important than a medical professional's pride or sense of convenience. Period. read more

2024 Review of Thyroid Institute of Utah & Dr. Ian Orozco: Love love, love Dr. Orozco at the Thyroid Institute of Utah. He is prompt, patient-centered, and Knows his stuff. I feel very comfortable in his competent care. His staff is helpful and works well with my insurance and schedule. If you want a kind and knowledgable board-certified endocrinologist to care for your thyroid and parathyroid issues, Dr. Orozco is your man. (Note: the previous doctors at the Thyroid Institute of Utah, particularly Dr. Ahmad, is not there anymore. Dr. Orozco took over in 2024 and it is a completely different office with the same name and 2 locations in Provo & Lehi. Don't hesitate to go to Dr. Orozco! Dr Orozco is Amazing! I went to another Dr and not only had to wait months to get in but waited over an hour in their waiting room to even see the doctor. *****DO NOT GO HERE**** I blame myself for not checking reviews, before going here. I made an appointment to get a second opinion. I met with Dr. Ahmad and he did an ultrasound and said I have hyperthyroidism/Graves' disease., so he put me on Methazolamide I asked a lot of questions about the drug but he kept saying it's ok, it's ok. I had a bad feeling and did not take them. One month later I had a appointment to follow up. They told me I had to come early for blood tests at their location and then a few days before my appointment they told me that I needed to get blood work by other means and send it to them. (ugh, why don't you guys have the ability to draw blood?). I got the requested blood work well in advance and sent it to them and then went out of town a few days before my appointment. I was out of town when the office called me and said other blood work was needed. So I told her I'm out of town and I can go the day day of my appointment. I almost forgot about the fact that they thought my appointment was the following Monday and not Friday. So the day of my appointment I went to my primary Dr to get the labs done (which the Dr Ahmad office assured me they were ready for me) I get there and they have no such request. Finally after an hour trying to get a hold of a nurse through the thyroid center they give my Dr the order. My appointment was in one hour with Dr Ahmad at that point. I get a call from the office asking me if I plan on coming because they know my appointment was soon. I told them yes, and that I may be about 15 min late but to wait for me. They agreed to wait and to try and hurry. I get to the office 4:08pm on a Friday and they closed. They close at 4pm. I was so disappointed because they knew I was coming and the delay was because of them in the first place. I know it's Friday and we all want to leave early but they knew my situation and didn't even say one word. Two weeks later they called saying "so we saw you missed your appointment would you like to reschedule? Nope, no thank you! I do not want to go back. They don't answer any questions, and if you are concerned they say take the meds. Sorry For the long review, but this place doesn't have the proper staff and/or the proper way to handle people with a thyroid issue. read more

This is an amendment to my previous review. I would never refer anyone to the Thyroid Institute of Utah, and sadly, I believe many people are not getting proper diagnosis and treatment for thyroid problems. I've had a lot of private messages sent to me through Yelp, asking who I would recommend instead. I am glad to say both my husband and myself are being well treated by Naturopathic doctors in the SLC area. Send me a message if you'd like names. Both of the Naturopathic doctors are very competent and are able to properly diagnose and treat way beyond the standard TSH test. They will also test Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3 and also antibodies. They will also look at your diet because food is medicine. You don't need to suffer! read more

The worst physician experience I have ever had. I almost never do negative reviews, but in this case, I will make an exception. Ahmad is arrogant, egotistical and disrespectful, all in the extreme. I came away angry about the experience the first time, but I decided that maybe he was just having a bad day. So, I went back one more time. When he first walked in the room (the second time I saw him) he asked: 'How are you feeling?'. I told him I was feeling terrible...that I was exhausted all day and could hardly run my business and at night I could not sleep. I went on to describe another five or six symptoms, all clearly pointing to low Thyroid. When he stood up ten minutes later, he said: 'I'm glad you're feeling better'. He had not listened to a single word I said. On top of everything else, he also gave me some bad medical advise that made the issues I was having worse. The behavior of this guy probably qualifies for malpractice. Needless to say, I have flatly dumped Ahmad and the Thyroid Institute of Utah and suggest everyone else do the same. read more

Efficiency efficiency efficiency is their motto. That's the good part. Dr Ahmad just decided to take me off of my thyroid medication one visit. No, my numbers had not changed. I said please don't, I won't be able to get up the stairs if this is radically removed. . . then asked him why -- obviously, he'd been prescribing it--"Because you've been on it 15 years." Whaaaa??? Yes, and I was on it, and you prescribed it, because I NEEDED IT. Once off, I was exhausted. Cold hands and feet; couldn't unload the frozen food without gloves after grocery shopping. Dry hair, dry skin. Muscle aches for days after a simple workout. Low energy. Why a board certified endocrinologist would just capriciously suddenly take me off the only medication I'd been on for over a decade stumped me, especially when my blood work had not changed, I do not understand. I found a new doctor a year later. He ordered labs and put me RIGHT BACK ON after reading the results and said avoid gluten. Already I feel so much better!! read more

While the nurse practitioner was great when I had my appointment, the office has neglected to provide the results of my lab work after a month. I have called multiple times since my appointment at different times, and I am always sent to voicemail. No effort has been made to contact me, though the lab bills were astronomical. I just barely got my bill from last 7 months ago. At my last visit, Dr. Ahmad saw me for about 30 seconds. All he did was tell em my blood test results were normal, which I already knew. He did not answer my questions about supplementing with Vitamin D to help my energy levels. He told me I have no energy because of my age group... I am in my early 20's. This visit was a waste of time and he still billed me the highest billing code, which is completely dishonest and absurd. His staff is consistently rude and confused. Avoid at all costs! read more

We called to have an appointment scheduled with Dr. Ahmad. We chose to cancel the appointment and go with another Doctor because of the way the receptionist treated us on the phone. She was rude and very condescending. My husband is being treated for possible thyroid cancer and she was completely inconsiderate and had no compassion. Thyroid Institute of Utah was such a big disappointment. I am pregnant and was sent there due some lower levels on my thyroid. The doctor barely spend time talking to me, said I was fine, like wanting to kick me out of his office, and told me to come back in a month because we need to monitor it. I went into the Draper location yesterday with concerns I've been having and have never felt more uncomfortable and insecure about how I was being treated. I was there a total of 15 minutes and the whole time Dr. Ahmad made me feel terrible. I expected so much more out a specialty Doctor. Every disappointed in how I was treated. Wanted to share my experience with the Thyroid Institute of Utah- just in case anyone is looking for a Dr. Over the last 6 days, I called 7 times requesting a refill. I shared each time I was out of medicine. (Keep in mind my last appt was less than 3 months ago. My prescription has also stayed the same for 5 years). They said if I made an appt they would refill. I made an appt. They still did not refill my prescription. I was forced to go to a pharmacy and get an emergency supply. I called and literally begged and pleaded twice a day to get a refill. Still no response. After contacting an office manager, I finally received a call back. I have never experienced such a lack of professionalism in my life. Unfortunately thyroid medication is a an absolute necessity due to thyroid cancer. Needless to say I will NEVER go there again. read more

I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's with the onset of hypothyroidism. I frequently saw Dr. Sekgos, he did not listen to me or treat my disease, he simply kept throwing diet pills at me which did not help my condition in the slightest. After pleading with him for help due to the weight gain, hair loss and fatigue he treated me like I was just another number and did not help me in the slightest, in fact he scoffed at me. We went to Dr. Ahmad and we were not happy with the care. He did an ultrasound and his final recommendation was a thyroid medication which after research, you become dependent on. I didn't feel like there was much care involved on the part of Dr. Ahmad. We were very underwhelmed by our experience and overwhelmed by the charges. After our insurance, we are near $400 for about 30 min of consultation. We cancelled our follow-up appointments and are choosing a different route of care. read more

First visit ok. Second visit he didn't do anything but diagnose my lab results and then refuse to treat me because I was on the low end of "normal" in spite of a very high thyroid antibody count and multiple symptoms. I've been a nurse for over 23 years, and this is one of the worst doctors I have ever met! He told me that symptoms which my GP and my knowledge said were definitely thyroid were not thyroid related at all. I went in to see Dr. Ahmad about my concern for a possible thyroid issue. I set up the appointment and I was not informed to fast for any possible testing. Day of my appointment I filled out several pages of paperwork indicating my symptoms including a page for patients with depression which I refused to fill out. Dr. Ahmad came into my room and quickly described typical thyroid symptoms...looked me up and down and said "You don't look like you have thyroid issues, you could lose 10-15 pounds but it doesn't look like a thyroid issue." He didn't ask me what brought me in, didn't look at my paperwork and when I did try to tell him about my 6 day a week 2 hour workouts he said, "some people will be genetically overweight." He told me some patients do well with prescription weight loss pills but DOES NOT recommend them for me. He put me on the table, squirted jelly all over my neck and my blouse and looked for lumps in my neck. Gave me a towel and said the assistant will be with you in a minute to schedule the follow-up. Poof, he was gone and I was left in tears. The assistant came in and asked me if I fasted, which I did not it was afternoon and I was not advised to fast. So she told me I would need to go to a lab corps and have blood work completed and come back in 3 weeks for the results. "Oh and Dr. Ahmad wanted me to give you this," she said handing me a packet on prescription weight loss medication. I took the paperwork needed for the blood work and noticed he wasn't even wanting to test me for most Thyroid issues only listed the T4 be tested and not the T3. I decided to cancel my follow up and schedule an appointment with another doctor. I wish I read reviews prior to making my first appointment with Dr. Ahmad. I am upset he even got one visit out of my insurance. read more

Dr Ahmad was over an hour late for my initial visit because his car broke down. I had driven over 50 miles for the appointment so I waited. When he arrived he was obviously in a huge hurry. He did a quick ultrasound but wouldn't take time for my questions and had me out of his exam room literally in under 2 minutes. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and went for a 2nd visit but had a similar experience. He simply wasn't interested in taking time to answer my questions or concerns. What is really disturbing are the "exam notes" my new doctor received when I requested my records be transferred. Dr Ahmed made it sound like he had spent an hour with me answering my questions and going over my tests. He obviously based this information off of my New Patient form and spun his tale from that info. It made me sick to my stomach. My new doctor said I am not the first patient he has had that had this same experience with Dr. Ahmad. I hope that my review and the many other similar negative reviews I am seeing online will save other people from wasting their time and money on Dr. Ahmad. read more

I went to Dr Ahmad excitedly hoping that he would help me. I even traveled an hour and a half to see him. From the time he walked in the door he made me feel like an idiot for being there. He is extremely arrogant and patronizing. I brought in previous test results with me and he informed me he would just crumple them up and throw them in the garbage. They had me fill out four pages detailing symptoms I was experiencing and he didn't even look at them. I went in with a specific problem and he wouldn't even allow me to address it. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a physician. The whole appointment was less than 10 minutes. In that short amount of time I was made to feel stupid, fat, lazy, and worthless. He wouldn't listen to anything I said and even sent me home with a prescription for the same medication I have been on for two years. It took everything I had to not cry in front of him. You could not pay me to spend another 10 minutes with that man. read more
