I pop in to Tia Juanita's about every week or so. Overall, I like the place. The food is good and the service is good as wee. When live music is being played, it's not obnoxious. I really haven't had a bad time yet. The only thing that frustrates me is that the hostesses often want to seat me in the other side of the restaurant from the bar side. I sat there once and hated it. In fact, I got up and left. IT's loud and dingy and the atmosphere is the opposite of what I go there for. The problem I see is that the bar side has too many large tables. A person going alone is going to want to be on that side. Overall, I haven't had a bad experience and it's nice to pop in for a cold beer and some oysters. read more

Tyler Texas location just opening. Absolutely love the stuffed mushrooms, guacamole, boudin balls, blackened redfish pontchartrain, steak fajitas meat. Pass on the charro beans and the gumbo wasn't great, either. Steak came out rare when ordered medium, BUT the second time around came out on point. Eclectic decor inside- Our waitress Stormy was a bit non responsive- apparently has been employed there for awhile & lacked knowledge on whether their beans contained pork/lard. When we asked, she just replied, "I don't know" & I asked her if she could please go check so we know if we need to find something else to order if need be. Two managers both came over & they apologized & explicitly. The blackened chicken & veggies with the pineapple mango salsa was tasty but the rice was bland. Probably the most popular restaurant in Henderson. Ate here twice this week. TLDR: nice atmosphere, mediocre food. The first night I ordered a bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo. Not impressed to say the least. The sausage was the only enjoyable part of the dish. The chicken and rice were overcooked. It was so watery and salty I picked out the sausage and left the rest. The second night I skipped ordering an entrée and ate the cheesy oyster appetizer that my colleagues ordered. These were fresh but the cheese level was inconsistent. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3 because the service was friendly, and the posters are cool. read more

As a seafood place, they need to work on the fried shrimp recipe. It was battered in THICK cornmeal. On top of that, it was flavorless. The fries weren't much better. Coming home from Tyler a couple weekends ago. We went through Henderson Texas and found this amazing little restaurant. Tia Juanita's - My husband had heard about it from a couple of his drivers and so we decided to pull in and have a looksee. Oh my gosh it's the cutest place. They have so much stuff on the walls and everywhere that I just had to get up and walk around. I had to see everything. Such a casual atmosphere. The staff is everywhere. Very accommodating. The food was very good. There are so many different things to choose from. It was hard just picking a few. My husband had the seafood gumbo and it was full of shrimp. So good. He had a side of potato salad because I've got to try anyone's potato salad wherever I go. They didn't disappoint. It was really good. We got the stuffed mushrooms that were just smothered in cheese and the flavor was so good. I had the seafood enchiladas. Really really tasty. The rice was really good and the beans were too. They were not watery at all. It had a good thick juice to it. The pico de gallo was very flavorful and I cut up the big chili and put it in my enchilada. Hot For dessert we had the bread pudding, which was amazing. So good that really it was plenty for both of us, but we went ahead and took some strawberry cheesecake home with us. I loved it. It's a little bit of a drive for us but I guarantee you the next time we go to Tyler we will definitely be stopping back by. We have so many other things we need to try. Me and my family meet here about twice a month, has always been good until this last time . Worst experience, ordered gator bites for the table, they were raw. Sent them back and came back out still raw with about half an order, maybe. Our food arrived, my daughter and I ordered the redfish poncitrain , redfish was tough and the shrimp on top tasted like it was grilled in lighter fluid. My girlfriend ordered chicken quesadillas that weren't cooked, the manager came out with her plate in his hands after the waiter took it back, his exact words were ( I DONT EVEN KNOW WHERE THIS CAME FROM, WE DONT EVEN USE THIS TYPE OF TORTILLAS)WTF!!!! Granddaughter ordered steak nachos, they came in a full size corn tortilla, covered in more beans than you can even believe, we actually counted the pieces of steak on top of them, 3 to 4 pieces on each one maybe 1/4" in size. She wouldn't even eat it. No we're sorry just excuses. I'm not looking for a free meal and I never complain but this was nasty, straight up inedible!!!! I've eaten there over a hundred times since they have been open but never again. Thing is , the manager came to the tat3 different times, first time I'm sorry, second time, I don't even know where this food came from????? They charge for chips and salsa unlike most Mexican restaurants. The waitress says would you like chips and salsa? Of course you say ye because you assume they are complementary like they are in every other Mexican, restaurant in the world. And then they charge you four dollars. When this place first opened, it was great. Definitely the most expensive restaurant in town, but no lunch special or lunch menu. The manager, Paul, knew everyone and worked the room. I'm not sure who the manager is now as no one seems to be in charge. Our lunch today was mediocre. We ordered appetizers and salad and salmon. The salad came a minute before the meal. The appetizers came after we got our meal!! The salmon, veggies and rice were lukewarn and the sauce had too much water and soaked the plate The waitress blamed the kitchen. No, it was not crowded. I had to be in the area for a week's worth of work andbthis was kinda like the only place I saw that was not a fast food restaurant. The menu is all over the place so the first night I had the fried fish and it was mid. The second time within the week I went and a waitress advised me just have the margaritas and some bodain balls. "J" and I have been here separately with our families. This is a cool place. Looks like they took 3 places in a small strip mall and combined into one large restaurant. The setting is very cool. The food I had there once was good, not great= the Gumbos. Both the Seafood and the Chicken Sausage Gumbos were good but not bad. Chips and Queso were good. My wife really liked her Chicken Fajitas. "J" like the Grilled Shrimp Quesadillas when he went. I will be back many times. There are so many good choices here. The atmosphere is great. Nice big place has lots of seating. Ok so we ordered the boiled shrimp. It was hard to peel and lacking flavor. We ordered the Pontchartrain the fish was nice and flaky and sauce was really good ,but the veggies were raw. The salmon the sauce on the fish was so good and the fish was nice and flaky. the veggies were properly cooked. supreme nachos was a huge portion of food. Taste is what you'd expect from nachos. I write this new review with torn feelings, because we have had every experience with Tias as wonderful, however, this past weekend did not reflect the good things we had come to expect. We took my nephew he has moved from DFW to this place to showcase a great fusion local business. The appetizers we ordered queso, gator bites, and fresh oysters on the half shell were great! Our server Jen was the kindest and sweetest server we've ever met. I guess thats why we really didn't say much about our entrees. My nephew got the blackened seafood nachos. There was no blackening seasoning and they were watery. My husband got the blackened tilapia which was nicely blackened but there was a weird cream sauce over it that wasn't seasoned and was just a white paste. I got the seafood platter. There was absolutely no seasoning in the breading of the fish, shrimp, oysters. The hushpuppies were slightly gummy and uncooked in the middle. It all tasted like just cornmeal and relied on their wonderful sauces for flavor. Also, a bloody Mary should be served with celery, or celery seasoning. It tasted more of a michelado and less of a bloody Mary. Overall, it was "ok", but just not the flavor explosion we have had in the past. Yall gotta fix your seafood dredge, its just bland. The vibes of this restaurant are just top tier. There's plenty of really cool and funny decor to view while dining or waiting for a table. We went on a night there was live music and it was super great! Our server was super sweet and took great care of us even with how busy it was. And the food was great! The steak had a nice wood grilled taste to it. I will say it's definitely different than the normal Texas grilled steak but delicious none the less. Well let's start off by saying the waitress was not very good, she took our order but didn't write anything down which is fine as long as we get what we asked for. I asked for my vegetables to be cooked well done on my fajitas, but they was barely even cooked, the beef fajita meat was very good though. My wife ordered the Salomon dinner nd she said the Salomon was ok but the vegetables that came with it was not good, said they didn't taste very fresh and she didn't get her salad, when we asked the waitress about it she said it didn't come with one, so we went and got a menu to see if her salmon dinner come with a salad and it did, she just didn't get it. Don't appreciate the waitress lying to us. I can say the place has a pretty good atmosphere and seems to be pretty clean.
