    Large seafood gumbo

Best gumbo with sausage chicken shrimp and oysters!! The boudain balls are homemade and the best I've ever had! The dipping sauce that comes with it has just the right spice. I couldn't get a picture we ate them so fast! The owner is usually in there and everyone there is so friendly! The decor reflects the owners interests with his fishing and hunting trophies! Love this place!

Did you say you want a cheeseburger that is so BIG you can no way finish it ? Wow, that's what I found out today when I ordered the cheeseburger, added grilled jalapeños and mushrooms. The side was French fries and a fresh green salad. Seriously , (see pictures) that was one huge burger !! Hush Puppies is always good! When in Henderson, Texas give them a try. Go get Full

I definitely have to make it a point to stop by Hush Puppies again. I am from South Florida but will definitely make an attempt to drive through in order to have another great meal at this little diamond restaurant in East Texas. Before I even get to the delicious food, I need to address the country-like atmosphere. Everyone from the local patrons and the staff at Hush Puppies we're wonderful. Very, very friendly and always with a smile. Everyone in the restaurant, including the customers, treated us like as if we were long time friends. What a warm feeling one feels when entering this fine establishment. Then comes the food... all cooked to order and somehow served quickly, even though it was super busy when we went in. I only took a couple of pictures but everything that we had was delicious and had that home-cooked appeal. Thank you to all the wonderful hostesses, servers, cashiers, cooks, bus crew, management and all the wonderful employees at Hush Puppies for providing us (party of 4+a service dog) a wonderful meal and a great experience as we passed on through the great state of Texas.

Very nice little restaurant- much bigger inside than it looks. Cute rustic atmosphere. Sweet waitstaff. We had the catfish fillets- crispy cornmeal breading. Not greasy at all. Perfect portions for us. Be sure and save room for dessert! The chocolate pie was divine!

No empty tables. This is NOT 50% capacity seating like they said!

We have enjoyed eating here for about a year. Very good seafood, good service, great selection of sides. However we were not very happy about our visit today. My husband called to see if they still had inside dining and any restrictions. They said they were seating at 50% capacity. So we drove the 30 minutes from Tyler to go eat there. When we got there, none of the tables were marked for keeping empty. We were seated in the back section at a table, and there were about 4 other tables seated. But by the time we were nearly done with our meal 100% OF THE TABLES WERE FULL! We were lied to, and they put our health at risk. This made my husband very uncomfortable and did not enjoy his meal. We will not return. I don't appreciate being lied to.

Have a lit up led sign that says open, also a wooden sign that says open, website and google maps says open till 10pm. Got here at 9pm walk in and they say there closed a kitchens already closed so they can even give a Togo order. Terrible place. Go anywhere else

Great food. It's always good when the owners are on premise. The okra is not frozen... it's dusted in cornmeal. The fried shrimp was amazing casting a shadow on anything in Dallas or Tyler. Very large selection of seafood entrees, side dishes and pies piled high with meringue. There's also a daily special. We had great service & fair prices .... Worth the drive.

    Front door on 5/12/22!

Services was excellent!! Food selection and prices were really good. We started with Gator Bites, for our entrees we had catfish with okra & cheese grits and frog legs with mashed potatoes and pinto beans. A new find for us but one where we will definitely stop again!! Discovered dessert on the way out but no room left. Stoped about 11:45 and our downtime was only 45 minutes! Restrooms were very clean. We will be back.

Nice family owned place to eat. Good cajun style fish and seafood and I highly recommend the Monterrey Grilled Chicken with Shrimp.

All you can eat catfish was terrific, but I would go back just for the pintos and green tomato relish!

I went to Skipper's Pier in Gladewater thinking I was just grabbing dinner. Instead, I had one of…read morethose meals that makes you sit quietly for a minute afterward questioning why you ever eat anywhere else. The seafood was ridiculously good. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the seasoning was on point, and everything came out fresh and hot. I'm convinced somebody in that kitchen has a direct connection to the Gulf because there's no reason seafood in East Texas should taste that good. The place was busy, the staff was hustling, and somehow everything still came out fast. By the end of the meal I was already planning what I was ordering next time before I had even paid the check. If you leave Skipper's hungry, that's honestly a personal decision.

I went here with my dad who was born and raised in the area. He explained that we should go early…read morebecause they can get really busy, really quickly. So we went at around 4:45 in the afternoon on a Friday. There was already a 20-30 minute wait for a table inside, but instant seating on the patio, which we took. I'm breaking this into two scores--the food which is the most important, and the service (not just waitress, but overall). Food 4.5 stars--not perfect, but very good. Service 3.0 After getting seated on the patio we were told the server would be out shortly. After about 15 minutes I went back in to ask for menus--coincidently the person that seated us was telling the server that they had people at our table, so I turned around and went back out. Shortly thereafter we were given menus and we ordered drinks. Dad got 50/50 tea and I got water and a whisky rocks which confused the waitress. "So like, with Coke?" No, ma'am, just the whiskey poured over rocks, whatever your house whiskey is, I'm not that picky. We already knew what we wanted and ordered the catfish filets with fries, and fried okra. The food came quickly, but still no drinks. Eventually those came out. My whiskey was in a larger glass, not a whole lot but enough not to complain. The waitress then asked if I wanted a straw for it because she wasn't sure. She might have been new to service, so I'm not upset, I was more amused. She is working at a bar/restaurant but perhaps the servers are kept seperate and she's not used to running for the bar. The food was excellent. The catfish was freshly fried, the outside a good crunchy crust and the inside darn near dissolved it was so tender and moist, not even a hint of being over or under done. Excellent flavor, it didn't need the house made dips (a tartar and a cocktail sauce, both great), but they complimented it. Tartar was heavy on mayo flavor than traditional tartar, but you could still tell what it was. Cocktail sauce seemed fairly standard, I guess I can't promise that one was house made. Two jalapeno hush puppies came with it. They were standard fair, a little bit of spice, enough to enjoy while letting non-spicy people still tolerate it. Crunch went deep, the center was cooked but a lot less of the ratio than the crunch outside. Fries were also standard, but fried well, good crunch and fluffy inside. Fish was the absolute star, it was "close your eyes and enjoy" good. Fried okra was bland. It was crunch on the outside, soft but not gooey on the inside so they treated it well to reduce the slime, but it didn't stand out from any other fried okra I've had. Wouldn't get it again, but it was cheap. Didn't get checked on very often, I think we were offered drink refills when we asked for the check. Got the bill. Fish plates, $16. Okra side: 3.50. My one ounce of whiskey, TWELVE DOLLARS. I don't know if she rang it in wrong, or if their prices are just ridiculous for that stuff. Lesson learned, don't order alcohol here. But most certainly order the fish. Service lacking, perhaps still learning, fish was absolutely wonderful.
