Tia Julia is amazing! Have been getting food from here for nearly a decade. The food truck is located on the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Benham Street. The superstar on their menu is their tortas! I got the breaded chicken torta with chipotle. You can choose either chipotle or jalapeño. The chipotle has a nice kick to it, but I'm not someone who can handle spicy so if you want SPICY I would recommend to go with the jalapeño. The torta comes with a couple pieces of thinly breaded chicken cutlets, generous amount of cubed mozzarella cheese, nicely sliced avocado, chipotle sauce, all on top two buns that have just the right amount of bean spread. We were waiting to pick up food around the corner so I suggested trying something. L ordered two tacos, steak with potatoes and carnitas. I told L we should just eat it there since cold tacos just don't taste that good. Even with my hair flying all over my face, these tacos were so tasty. Loved the steak and potatoes and the portion of meat was generous and love that it wasn't over seasoned so I added all the sauces on top. The piece of avocado was ripe and was delicious with the taco. The carnitas was really lean so it wasn't my favorite but L had some fattier bits so he said it was really good. 2 tacos was enough to share for a quick lunch. Everything was fresh. Not bad, not bad at all. I live about 30 blocks away but I saw the great reviews and decided to head over. Tried some of their tacos and their Tortas. Absolutely nothing to complain about, taste was quite solid - and the portion sizes of their Tortas are fairly huge. One of those is plenty for a meal. They even have a big-screen TV on the side of their truck, complete with chairs for anyone waiting in line or feeling like eating outside, for your viewing pleasure. I think their lamb barbacoa is something that is truly special, I think it is worth visiting this truck for that one dish alone. The truck is located on 91st and Roosevelt ave on the Southeast corner right next to Walgreens. The food: Barbacoa Platter- I would give this one dish 5 stars. This a weekend only item, it was so freaking delicious I went 5 weeks in a row. I rarely go to a place and order something multiple times yet I visited and ordered the same thing 5 weeks in a row. This dish was perfect, the lamb was so tender with a slight gamey flavor but it was the right amount. I thought the additions from the wedge of, I believe, queso fresco, the tortillas, pico de gallo, slices of avocado and the slightly grilled onions and jalapenos with a side of smoky beans to go with the rice was amazing. Just some more reasons why they're fantastico: * Many of their servings include dollops of avocado. Not some watered down "guacamole" that some other carts / food trucks might serve. We're talking a nice spoonful portion over sandwiches, tacos, and platters. * Their tacos are quite good, which is never a guarantee despite being ingrained in the name. Need some meat recommendations? Tinga, carnitas, pollo. * As much as their taco game is on point, their cemita / torta game is next level. In fact, they're so good that no one would be mad if they decided to change their name to Tia Julia's Tortas Y Cemitas. However, it was a nice surprise to see that it is still part of the DNA of the neighborhood. I order 4 carnita tacos and a chicken torta loaded with everything on it. All this food was $19, where can you get this much food for that price? All i really need now is a table and 2 chairs to eat my food. Well as you figured, since i drive here from Bayside. There was no way i was going to drive back home without eating my food. So you guest it, i was prepared in my car with plates, plastic cutlery and paper towels to have my tacos and torta right here! Delicious food with friendly and fast service, with plenty of filling options for vegetarians! I ordered a torta de quesillo and it was an extremely generous portion for only $7, I'll definitely have leftovers. It came with plenty of beans, avocado and quesillo which I'm very happy about because I feel like with a lot of places, it can sometimes be hard to get enough protein with vegetarian options. Ingredients were very fresh! Menu also had plenty of other vegetarian choices! I would definitely ask for more red sauce next time (that's on me for not asking) because it was super tasty. I'm not sure if it had chipotle peppers, but it had a nice smokey flavor, which combined with the shredded quesillo, actually had a very similar taste to meat (in a good way). Clearly they never pay attention to what the customer orders and once you let them know they MAKE IT YOUR FAULT and disrespect you over the phone. Really disappointed with this place, been ordering here for years! Can't lie food is great which is why I tend to order from Tia Julia tacos truck but there service is absolutely garbage and disrespectful. Main issue I had was my grandfather ordering a delivery to his apartment keep in mind he lives across the street , he had a issue when he order a torta without any chipotles due to him not being to eat spicy cause of medical issues he called them to let them know polity about there mistake they decided to tell him that it wasn't there issue and couldn't resend him a new order and proceeded to block his number . Some way some how they found out we were related and decided to also block my number and my family's which is absolutely absurd cause what had happen with my grandfather had nothing to do with us . Today I order a torta and a taco de chile relleno and a agua they send me my order with a extra Chile relleno en soup on the side when I never said that. I brought out the food that I didn't order back to the delivery guy and he tells me that's what the receipt says and says that the hand writing is the manager keep in mind shes a women when on the phone I spoke to a guy . He ends up calling the manager and he tells her I'm here with the nephew of the guy who complained and proceeds to give her my grandfathers address she tells him only charge him for what they order and we won't be doing any more deliveries to either houses with the most disgusting attitude. This is my #1 Mexican taco truck in Queens. One of my go-to's when I just don't know what I want for dinner, or for those late night cravings. My boyfriend and I are huge fans of their steak quesadillas with rajas. I love that they put potato in it! It's the only place I get my quesadillas! Other menu items I have tried have all been great as well. The tacos and cemitas are bomb! They do tend to run out of quesadillas sometimes, and don't always answer their phone, but I'm sure they stay busy. I live close by the Tia Julia Truck and I'm so happy when it's here! Their cemitas are the best, I think. But yesterday I took my boyfriend to see if he would like it, since he's a huge fan of Taco Veloz's chiccharon tacos. We each had a torta, enchildada for me, carnita for him, and we each tried their tacos de chivos. After learning about the anatomy of tortas versus cemitas, I always considered tortas to be bad, off versions of a cemita. I mean, the bread! The chipotle! The quesillo Oaxaca! But, boy did I underestimate the torta at Tia Julia! The bread is unique, along the lines of cemita rolls, but a thing of its own. I always thought torta rolls were the 3 for $1 rolls in the local supermarkets (delicious, yes, but also familiar). The enchilada as well as the carnita were packed on there, as were the beans, cheese (not quesillo but springy and cut into three sticks of cheese on said sandwich). The pickled japlapenos really tied things together! Great, great sandwich, and for $6 I'd rather spring the extra buck for that than a $5 footlong. The tacos de chivos were really something else! The chivo had the gaminess that makes chivo not beef, which I like, and it was also fatty. Surprisingly I don't love too gamy or too fatty, but this was rich and balanced. The boyfriend was mighty impressed, and I was surprised as well. Three dollars for a taco de chivo is worth the extra fifty cents (or $1 at Taco Veloz!) The thing I find about the many taquerias in JH/Elmhurst is, while there are many I find they each have a specialty. Some have great tacos de chiccharon, like Taco Veloz, others have great fish tacos (like the Izquierda Taqueria on Roosevelt and Whitney, now gone and replaced by another taqueria). I like Tia Julia's cemitas best, and now their tortas and tacos de chivo have my heart as well. The fun of the neighborhood is checking out the different taquerias and seeing who has the best type of item. I suggest bringing your appetite! I've been living a block away from this truck for more than 15 years, always noticed it but did not give it a second thought. That was until they gave away tamales at the "Virgen de Guadalupe" day celebrations at the local church. Holy virgencita! The mole tamales were amazing and the salsa verde tamales were pretty darn good. I went and bought a batch this past Saturday and will probably go next. I just had amazing experience with this truck. I only ordered one pork taco today when the gentleman asked me one or two tacos, because it was for light meal I thought it was better idea than having baked goods or any other light food around. Since this is Mexican distraction area there are many Mexican places but this one I see many Mexican people lining so I just thought this is the one I should try. And that taco came with massive pork! (I was like how could I have possibly two of this!? ) My favorite part is that heir side veggies and spices are all fresh and all people on the line was right, it was the truck among others. The large avocado on my taco made me smile. I freaking love this taco truck!!!! I always order the chicken sandwich. I come here so often that I have my sandwich customized. The chicken sandwich usually comes with mayo, refried beans, two big chicken pieces, with a load of avocado and big chunks of queso fresco. For me...the beans made it dry , so I request extra mayo and Pico de Gallo without beans. Oh my goodness, portions are great for a price of $7. You can also request the shredded queso fresco instead of the chunks for an extra $1. I also had the beef tacos with rice and avocado for $3 which was also pretty good.
